I was reading some Muv-Luv fics on Spacebattles and I decided to do a Stellaris-Muv-Luv Oneshot. However, unlike every other fandom I've worked with, I have no idea what the characters in Muv-Luv are like. If you want to turn this into your own story, have fun.
Muv-Luv is a Visual novel dating sim/military gritty visual novel where a bunch of aliens called the BETA attacks an alternate 1970s Earth and captures most of Asia, Eurasia, and Europe with Humanity holding onto the U.K, the Americas, Japan, Taiwan, and Oceania thanks to mobile mech suits called Tactical Strike Fighters.
Stellaris: A Grand Strategy real-time strategy game where you take command of either a preset empire/species or one you created and you attempt to take over the galaxy by either annexing everyone, forming a peaceful federation, genociding everyone, blowing up the galaxy, or declaring yourself empire for life.
Note: I do not own either the Muv-Luv or Stellaris franchises until I completed the construction of my Juggernaut. I only own my OCs and the nations in this one-shot.
Ross/Limburn household, Australia, Earth, United Nations Solar Alliance
May 12th, 2916
"-reports coming in from the Colony world of New Kashgar, which has been placed under joint SATO occupation since February, has confirmed the last major BETA horde numbering over 40,000 has been whipped out by a combination of mobile armour units and fighter jets-"
Retired Field Marshal Victor Ross watched the news on a major holo screen as he was whisking together a bacon, roast beef, and green onion omelet.
"-It has been over 2 and a half months since the first encounter with the BETA that saw the destruction of much of New Kashgar's militia force and population. Now, United Nations Territorial Army and Kel-Azaan Legionaries have confirmed that the only pocket of BETA resistance has been around the energy portal scientists have dubbed the Stellar Gateway-"
-Sizzzzsiizz, the pan heated by the electric oven sizzled as a massive meat and vegetable omelette began rapidly cooking while the oven beeped, signalling that the bread of cooked.
"-Debate rages in the Galactic Senate, with the Commonwealth of Man demanding that the Gateway be made a G.C controlled entity and for joint combat operations against the BETA. While scientists and biologists from across the galaxy have met on the nearby world Wel-Yun to analyze these BETA creatures' corpses, SATO nations have staunchly opposed any joint analyzation of the gate-"
Drips of expresso coffee dripped into a pitcher as Victor prepped the table.
"-It has been unanimously agreed by the Stellar Aligned Treaty Council that a joint expedition is to be assembled. The estimated force size is estimated to be around 6 assault army groups, over 9 million organic personnel, 100 thousand tanks and other direct fire armoured vehicles, 120 thousand aircraft, 12 million combat drones, 40,000 fire support vehicles, 200,000 support or dual role vehicles, and at least 10,000 special forces units including the rising fame of the United Nations Jaguars. It is also believed that the United Nations 5th Pacific Maritime Fleet will join this force, among it includes over 200 maritime warships, including one spirit Mobile Command vessel, 8 maritime super arsenal carriers, and accompanying smaller carriers, battleships, and escorts. However, it has not yet been revealed who is commanding this formation. Though rumours have persisted-"
BAM BAM BAM! A claw could be heard banging on the door.
"Come in!" Victor unlocked the front door lock and the old Oak doors opened up. It revealed a pair that Victor recognized as two important leaders.
General Secretary Jack Spencer, a former Human Space Force fighter pilot and considered a bit of a war hawk by some. Surviving onboard an SF force escort carrier and becoming an ace at hunting pirate fighters, it was an odd job transition, from frontline pilot to politician. But he was both competent, experienced in what frontline active personnel experienced, and direct with his requests.
Head Councilor Orel Vorona was also military, and special forces. Coming from a warrior family within the Kel-Azaan Republic, he had enlisted in the military hundreds of years ago and fought alongside Victor in many wars (though Victor was twice his age). Fighting in the mud and dirt against all sorts of horrors made for great comradery so Victor support Orel to the post of Head Councilor of the Stellar Aligned Treaty Organization.
"Jack, Orry." Victor smiled. "Welcome to my family's quaint little residence in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. Please come in."
The two leaders took the former Field Marshal's request with grace and entered the mansion-sized home of the Limburn and Ross families.
"It's quiet. Family away from home?" Jack commented.
"Heh, first time to have the house to myself. Decades, literally. Soph's out on a vacation with family friends off in the Arcturus system. Kids and their little harem are serving with the 12th exploration flotilla." Victor chuckled.
"I doubt your kids would enjoy having their family be called a little harem." Orel snorted humorously as best the Kel Azaan could. "A massive conquest would be better."
"Hey, I love my crusader siblings but not so much I marry them. I made breakfast, tea, and coffee. Care to join?" The Field Marshal offered.
Soon enough, the three men were at the house's dinner table, lovingly chatting about politics and other topics.
"Humanity first still causing a pain?" Victor asked, taking a sip from a bubble milk tea (there's no better way to start the day than a bubble tea full of caffeine and sugar!)
"In the Oum sector? God yes." Jack sighed. "They barely number a million and they're causing a headache for the Faunus population. I had to dispatch a national guard division to keep the peace."
"You could just deport them. Or send them to the penal colonies." Orel suggested.
"Let's avoid the Stalin style. It might work for your people, not us Solarians." Victor shook his head. "So, you said you needed to meet me about this Stellar Gateway."
"Yes." Orel nodded.
"And you want me to help?" Victor raised an eyebrow.
The pair of politicians nodded.
Victor sighed. "For what purpose? I'm a retired man. Most of these days, I give lectures at a university or school, I attend the occasional charity, and I watch wargames. You surely have more qualified personnel on hand."
Jack snorted. "As if we have anyone more qualified than the Gen 1 Crusaders. Plus you served in every major conflict until the Remnant Aura Crisis."
"Yeah, still people are equally qualified as I am. So what's the real reason? And please, let's not drag this on like a void cloud sailing through Sol." Victor glared.
The pair of leaders looked at each other before nodding. "Something did come up. Here." Jack pulled out a datapad and handed it to the field marshal.
Orel spoke up. "2 days ago, we sent multiple recon drones into the portal. Most of the information is free for study by our intelligence agencies but there's something that caught our eye."
Victor swiped the Datapad's screen open and an image popped up. It was of a major BETA horde roughly 70 kilometres away from the gate.
"Seems standard. These BETA are massing reserves. Prethy did the same"
"Not that picture, scroll left," Jack ordered.
Victor did as he was told and swiped the picture away to reveal a…. destroyed mech.
"Huh. This is new." Victor began studying the war machine. Roughly 18 metres in height, Humanoid in shape, two arms, two legs, two discarded big assault rifle-looking autocannons. Honestly, it would have been a nice machine.
Just not a machine useful against most of Sol's enemies.
"It's not ours. We have no use for full-size mechs." Victor raised another eyebrow. "Anything these mechs can do, tanks or power armour can do at a cheap price with better reliability, ease of deployment, ease of training, less power consumption, and heavier armaments. Though these jump jets…."
"May make it a replacement to the outdated attack helicopters you used to command pre-FTL. But that's not the important part. Next picture." Jack replied.
Victor did as he was told and….wait what the heck?
"Jack, is this photoshopped or edited? I sure as hell remember the USAF not having any mechs in service when there was a U.S Air Force." Victor frowned as he looked at the oddly familiar white star in a circle and stripes in the background.
"I'm not kidding, keep looking at the other pictures," Jack responded.
Victor did as he was told and more pictures of destroyed mechs appeared on the screen. And all of them had insignias of old Earth militaries. The roundels of the Royal Air Force, the red stars of the USSR, the giant red dot of the old JSDF, and-"
"Ok, you're pulling my leg or something's up. These aliens sure as hell don't have Soviet-style T-80s and American M1s." Images of old MBTs with their turrets ripped out.
"Not fake. These were taken on the other side. Those old Earth Tanks are real, as are the BETA, the mechs, the destroyed cities." Orel said.
A sharp crack could be heard as Victor gripped the Datapad tightly. His augmented strength started to bend the device.
Images of destroyed cities were seen. Old Earth cities from his past.
"This isn't coming from another galaxy, it's another fucking universe," Victor whispered. "Another Earth."
"Indeed. We don't have any satellites but our intelligence guesses that the Portal on the other side is located in perhaps China or Mongolia." Jack continued.
"Yongzhou, Southern China." Victor simply responded. "I fought there during the Third World War and took out some of the last Red Dragon leaders there as well. I'm familiar, along with all the Crusaders of the 1st generation."
Victor looked back up. "I see now. You want me to head this Expeditionary Force because there's a chance that we may run into Earth nations and since there's only 60 of us from the pre-unification times, I'm the most qualified besides Limburn."
"And this is a ground operation so you're best suited. Look, it's not necessary but we at least want you as an advisor-"
"Don't bother."
"What but-" Orel started
"Because I'm taking command of this Stellar Assault Expeditionary Force. If any old Earth nations get in the way, I can talk them down. And if these BETA are burning Earth?"
Victor turned to the window of his home, a nice rising sun in the background. "They're gonna learned what it's like to barge into the wrong system, screw with the wrong people, and knock on the wrong fucking door." Victor turned back. "When do we leave?"
Galactic Community Wiki (2916): The BETA.
The BETA (a term used to describe the second hostile swarm-based race the galaxy has encountered) is a race of extremely hostile beings made primarily of carbon-based creatures that come in a variety of sizes and shapes. First contact with them was made by the independent world of New Kashgar and resulted in a near-disastrous slaughter of the colony world.
It is believed by various national intelligent agencies that the BETA are a form of organic mining drones that strips down various kinds of material in any region they operate in. This includes unrefined minerals, plant life, scavenged metals, and most disturbing of all: organic and synthetic Sapient beings. Some Silicon-based life has been noted in not being assaulted but must perish due to starvation or regarded as hostile due to armed fighting.
The BETA attacked the Colony World of New Kashgar, home to over 40 million sapient beings across the galaxy on February 24, 2916. Originating from a massive energy portal larger than a Solarian battleship, this world overwhelmed the unarmed militia forces of New Kashgar and proceeded to harvest the two most inhabitant continents of the world in a matter of weeks. It was only due to the arrival of the UNAF Battleship UNSV Golden Hind, and her accompanying battlegroup and marine complement, that 12 million colonists could be saved. New Kashgar is now under the occupation of the United Nations Allied Forces and other SATO combat units.
Galactic Community Wiki: Stellar Aligned Treaty Organization
The Stellar Aligned Treaty Organizations (also known as SATO) is an alliance of the Human Dominated United Nations Solar Alliance(U.N.S.A), the Vissari Planetary Directorate (V.P.D), Ztrakphor Star Kingdom (Z.S.K), the Kel-Azaan Republic (K.A.R), the Independent Roccan Union (I.R.U), and Free Temina Coalition (F.R.C). It is a supranational federation of 5 core species and various immigrant species, with SATO's main objectives being the mutual and fair prosperity of its member nations, collective military defence, unified political power in the Galactic Community Senate, and guaranteed independence in the face of overwhelming forces. The Treaty nation's territory is concentrated in the Orion and Persus arms.
Combined, the Member nations account for a total of 55% of the galaxy's military spending (equivalent to over 47 Quadrillion energy credits), the largest collection of megastructures, boosting the top five largest and strongest navies individually (combined force numbered around 6 million full combat vessels with many in reserved or mothball), the largest combined active frontline combat force (estimated strength combined is around 30 billion organics) and a combined population of 9 trillion sapient beings (accounting for a third of the galaxy's recognized population).
The Stellar Aligned Treaty Organization Was signed into being in 2457 C.E. by the United Nations Solar Alliance and the Vissari Planetary Directorate at the onset of the age of conflict. Both empires being rather minor powers at the time, these two unlikely allies found that the Orion arm, their home arm, was a portion of the galaxy filled with untapped resources and planets for colonization; resources that could be drained in the period of the galactic war were to arrive. These two empires came together, signing multiple defence treaties before ultimately signing into being as a unified Federation. The Ztrakphor Star Kingdom (another Orion arm species) join the federation in 2459 and the Kel-Azaan Republic in 2472 (having been previously ravaged by another waring power of the Age of Conflict and seeking protection). In 2522, SATO nations, having spent decades building up their military and economic strength, launched Operation Solar Lance, an ambitious operation that struck multiple warring parties of the Age of Conflict and brought an end to a galaxy-spanning war.
In 2589, SATO exploration cruisers exploring the then-distant Perseus Arm of the galaxy came into contact with the Minamar Specialized Industries (MSI), a mega cooperation that rivalled the strength of any one SATO nation in economic potential and industrial might. Relations souled rapidly due to both MSI's rather dishonourable business dealings, SATO's morals, and the Mega corporation's attempts to steal systems from SATO settlers under the guise of 'infrastructure' projects. Then, SATO exploration cruisers discovered and made contact with the Roccan Resistance, one of the only species to successfully resist MSI's economic occupation. After learning of what MSI had done to half a dozen other species, SATO launched a major operation to ferment unrest across MSI space and support the Roccan Resistance through the UNSA's lend-lease act. When the time was right, a massive strike by both SATO carrier groups and Roc strike teams launched precise attacks on MSI, sparking the De-cooperate War. MSI would be dismantled as a corporation during the De-corporate War and freeing multiple Pre-FTL species. The Rocs would be allowed to flourish and form the Independent Roccan Republic and while many of the freed MSI-owned species would form protectorates under SATO nations or (under the guidance of SATO advisors) join the Free Temina Coalition, both joining SATO in 2619 and 2621 respectively.
SATO is also well known for being one of three major parties responsible for saving the galaxy during the War on Heaven. Two Ancient Fallen empires would end up clashing against each other and multiple species would end up in the crossfire. SATO battlegroups would attempt to limit damage between these two powers. The rather reckless use of Jump Drives would result in a rift opening up that resulted in the Unbidden attacking both the Fallen Empires and SATO forces. Consequently, a swarm of beings known as the Prethoryn Scourge (initially labelled as Able by SATO intelligence services), attacked protectorate nations of the Commonwealth of ManCOMbordering the Fallen Empires. In a Herculean effort, SATO would evacuate hundreds of billions of sapients from the Northwest of the Milky Way galaxy, before coordinating with both the Commonwealth and the Guardians Alliance (an alliance of more benevolent Fallen Empires) in a unified response against all four warring parties (each dubbed crises). Joint fleet operations smashed apart and severed the gateways of the Prethoryn Scourge and the Unbidden Respectively, while SATO army, legionary, and marine units took on Prethoryn-held worlds and occupied Fallen Empire strongholds. By 2745, the Crisis period of the galaxy ended, with the parties of the crisis either pacified, destroyed, or locked away for a long time.
Ever since then, SATO forces have intervened on multiple worlds and star systems against various foes. Armed forces have been used to secure passageways for Humanitarian and peacekeeping forces. Most notable are the Rikker's Pirate band decimation where the Roccan navy annihilated several pirate vessels, the Hitian Quake disaster where SATO forces operated in concert with the Commonwealth of Man to provide relief supplies, and the Grimm mop up where UNAF and Roc Forces jointly saved a lost Humanity colony called Remnant. SATO nations have also repeatedly advocated for equal sentient racial rights, universal abolishment of slavery, and proportional military buildups.
On April 3rd, 2916 C.E, UNAF battleship UNSV Golden Hind and her battlegroup was on a routine patrol of the South West portion of the galaxy (a region contested by the Commonwealth of Man) when they came upon the isolated independent colony world of new Kashgar. Upon arriving and discovering the BETA, the Golden Hind and its battlegroup's marine and fighter squadrons descended onto the planet in an attempt to shield an evacuation of the colonists, with the warships themselves conducting large-scale bombardment of BETA hordes using their Heavy Gauss weaponry. Though successful, the fight with the BETA exacted a heavy toll on both the primarily light infantry marine force and fighter wings of the Golden Hind battlegroup. After authorization was given from SATO leadership, the battlegroup would demolish every single BETA hive with their Kinetic Artillery batteries, Particle Lances, Bunker Busting Fusion missiles, and bomber craft launched fusion missiles. With much of the BETA horde broken, Golden Hind marines, along with other marine and army units pulled together from across the sector, fought and secured the portal that the BETA used to attack New Kashgar.
Combat Advice against the BETA horde
The BETA horde is an unknown faction that has sacked the colony world of new Kashgar for no official reason, though many suspect they simply wandered through the Stellar Gate and began mining the world. Analysis from both the Remnants of the new Kashgar Militia and the Golden Hind battlegroups has yielded information for combating the BETA
Infantry advice: Like the Crisis Age, mechanized infantry will provide the bulk of our firepower and numbers here. Both marine and militia forces proved that small arms can kill dozens of BETA, however, numbers ultimately triumphed over sheer determination.
From the data, we can come up with these conclusions:
1)All infantry units should be equipped with either medium-level Gauss battle rifles, rapid plasma repeaters, or high-yield laser weapons. SMGs and assault rifles are not going to be much use against larger BETA but heavier weapons can pin down herds.
3)Infantry should wear medium-class battle armour or above. While the armour itself is practically useless, the important aspect is the shoulder-mounted weaponry most frontline SATO personnel carry. This varies from longer ranger heavy anti-armour gauss cannons, anti-armour plasma cannons, micro missile pods, and more. Anything meant to take on armour is recommended. Shields have also increased the survivability of infantry.
4) All squads should be paired up with one flock of HAWK drones or equivalents per squad for both recon and munitions carriers. HAWK drones carrying dedicated anti-armour missiles or lasers have proved effective in handling smaller swarms. Smaller disc battle drones have provided useful in recon as well.
5) All squads should never move without vehicle support. This should come in the form of auto cannon-armed APCs, SPAAGs, and IFVS. Ideally, Gatling weapons should be added as well.
6)It recommended that every fire team carry atleast one anti-armour weapon. While the M5 Carl Gustov MAAW has proved effective in bringing down medium-level BETA, it's recommended we supplement with either mobile MRLS, Particle Beam cannons, swarmer missile pods, and arc emitters.
Tactics: It is recommended that infantry should be used as how many species viewed theirs in their pre-ftl history: a blocking or garrison force. It is suicide for infantry to go it alone as should always be accompanied by drone swarms, ground armour units, power armour, air assets, and off-site artillery. Unless running as fast as their armour can take them (or being Jaugers with aura unlocked/psionics that can enhance their reaction time), Infantry also runs the high risk of being overwhelmed.
Ground Armour advice: The bulk of the ground fighting will be done by both our tank divisions and other armoured fighting vehicles. We have over half a million AFVs and they have proven to be our most effective tool in combating frontal attacks. Here is some advice:
1) The Liberator Main Battle Tank has been the UNAF's primary MBT for the last 7 decades and has proven itself effective against the BETA. However, a fatal flaw discovered by the marines is that the main gun (a 130mm Gauss Cannon) has too slow of a rate of fire to handle a massive BETA horde. This has been, in the past, remedied by adding a 40mm autocannon or energy weapon equivalent on the roof of the turret.
2) Similarly the 8 vertically launched Dagger ATGMs have proved useful in downing heavier BETA. However, the appearance of BETA Laser firing creatures has resulted in at least 70% of fired daggers being downed if units are less than 40 kilometres away from a Laser class. Either fire daggers in massive ripple attacks or engage Daggers in closer ranges.
3) LAV-50 Valkyrie IFV has been the main 'heavy' ground transport for the infantry of the United Nations Allied Force. While they have served adequately for many years, New Kashgar has shown its flaws. One of them is that the rotary kinetic cannon is not suited to handling large BETA. It's recommended that the 9.5mm Vulcan cannon be replaced with a 40mm autocannon.
4) We need the Mammoth Tanks back and a lot of them. Yes, the press derided them as 120-ton coffins but data shows that before retirement, Mammoth tanks proved effective in handling any AFVs smaller than it. Also, the presence of massive BETA hordes has caused UNIS to recommend that Mammoth Heavy Gauss Weapons be replaced with a Particle Lance cannon. While having a slower rate of fire per shot, each shot projects a massive beam capable of decimating BETA hordes. Multiple Fortress class BETA has been spotted before the reinforcement of New Kashgar. Recommend using Mammoths to bring them down.
5) Suprisingly, artillery has proven to be a great equaliser against the BETA. Our MRLS and SPGs have proven to be able to suppress or distract Laser class BETA while demolishing larger BETA classes. However, of all the UNAF's weapon systems in our arsenal, mobile artillery has generally been underfunded. Most of our systems are either short-range mortar carriers, mid-range MRLS, and long-range fortress-busting SPGs. We require a massive overhaul of our mid-range artillery systems as even Plasma mortars cannot whittle down a BETA horde fast enough.
Air Support advice: Of all of our combat units, our air assets have claimed the most kills against the BETA. However, due to the rushed nature of their deployment, they suffered the heaviest losses outside of the light marine infantry. This is primarily due to the Red Laser class. Advice follows:
1) BETA lasers class come in two forms: light and heavy. Light's are relatively weak and cannot harm aircraft shields but they come in the hundreds. Intel places their power between a Laser MANPAD weapon and a dedicated SPAAL (Self Propelled Anti Air Laser). Heavy Laser Class are few in numbers but are capable of demolishing even shielded fighter craft. Only our Warthogs and Spectre Gunships handled the firepower well. Their biggest weakness is their inability to avoid bunching up, weak armour, and limited reaction ability to flanking attacks. Utilise either our Warthogs, Spectres or long rang plasma artillery to nullify these Laser AA creatures.
2) Every since the retirement of the Talon VTOL attack gunships in the 2600s, the UNAF has been lacking a dedicated attack helicopter unit for the last 3 centuries. It's time we change that. Warthogs in VTOL mode were crucial in providing CAS for allied forces and it would be a waste to spend Warthogs on gunship roles. While we don't have the time to develop and produce a dedicated attack VTOL, our Blackbird VTOLs are easy to convert into dedicated attack copters. Additionally, sending additional Hawk drones laden with ATGMs or modified Mistaya dropships is an alternative.
3) Our drones. They are the key to a successful fight. Hawk drones carried both ATGMs and Pulse laser cannons. While they can't stop a BETA horde in its tracks, drones are more than capable of screening units, providing additional eyes in the sky, being distractions, and more. The smaller battle disc drones our infantry carry is useful against the small person-sized BETA, but it should be advised that we recommend adding additional firepower. Up gun anything wherever possible.
4) Of all of our aircraft that stand out, the A89 Warthog Attacker, AC-250 Spectre Gunship, B-4 Rapier bombers, and F-61 Tridents have proved to be the most effective. As the BETA has no air assets of their own, our Warthogs rule the sky and bring death from above. Our Spectre gunships can fire from orbit, beyond Laser class ranges. Rapier heavy bombers can wipe out Medium sized BETA hordes on their own. However, our Tridents have proved to be the best craft in anti-laser operations. Their speed, decent shields, and high payload compared to other craft showed that even these air superiority fighters are still effective for ground operations. Recommend arming Tridents with dedicated HARMs or other SEAD munitions while all of our remaining aircraft dedicate themselves to bleeding BETA dry.
Tactics: Warthogs, Tridents, and other smaller aircraft should use the natural terrain to their advantage if possible. Spectres and Rapiers are to use range to their advantage.
Maritime assets: Though there were few maritime combat assets available to the New Kashgar militia forces, it has been discovered that the BETA's main method of attacking over continents is to walk on the ocean floor or swim. This proved to be an excellent opportunity for New Kashgar maritime assets to hit the BETA.
1) Naval mines are going to be extremely useful in shielding our flanks if we're to set up our own bases near an ocean. We currently don't have any active sea mines for use but it wouldn't take more than a few weeks to develop one against the BETA.
2) Despite our lack of naval mines, we do have maritime defences. The Seagate class Torpedo platform is an automated floating fortress equipped with a hybrid anti-air missile/laser system firing Hellgate missiles and an underwater Torpedo system with Tsunami class torpedoes. This was developed both to counter potential enemy submarines and underwater Prethoryn Scrouge beings. A retrofit could see these defence platforms be converted into shore bombardment systems and see a higher rate of fire for torpedoes.
3) Despite its size, the Maritime Navy of the UNAF receives healthy funding for modernization and new ships. As such, much of our maritime fleet is made up of kilometre-long heavy Mobile Command vessels capable of carrying entire divisions and air wings into combat, super heavy battle carriers capable of air operations, shore bombardment, and limited anti-orbital activities, and battleships capable of doing both shore bombardment and anti orbital operations. That also doesn't count the thousands of smaller frigates and cruisers. While all potent machines, a key flaw is that they lack any heavy anti-submersible weaponry. That is something we need to fix.
Defence options:
1) Our primary ground base CIWS is the Gatekeeper weapons system. It's a hybrid Gauss Rotary Kinetic Cannon with a Short Range Gamma Pulse Laser. It's meant for shooting down missiles or other explosive projectiles, while also serving as a light and cheap anti-infantry defence tower. Their decent sensors, high rate of fire weaponry, and high ammunition capacity allow them to serve as picket defences. Get these set up ASAP.
2) The Stonehedge class battle fortress cannons are an oddity in the UNAF's arsenal. Outside of ground mobile anti-orbital missiles, maritime warships, or dedicated planetary fortresses, the Stonehedge class of super-heavy kinetic artillery batteries are the only 'super' heavy artillery pieces that can both act as heavy artillery or anti-orbital weapons. Though only tested in peacetime, its theorized that a Stonehenge fortress may make for excellent defences if we swap much of their AA weapons with artillery pieces. We can use them to cut chunks into BETA hordes.
3) Nicknamed Pochi's are the unofficial name for the DT-12 anti-armour missile launchers. These are stationary missile turrets whose sole purpose is to throw hundreds of dagger ATGMs at an enemy. Considered obsolete due to more advanced armour and active defences, they can be extremely useful against the BETA.
4) Though officially designated at DT-14 Particle Lance Turrets, they have received the nickname Ion cannons for their abnormal blue particle lances. Slow rate of fire but its sweeping beams can smash apart anything heavily armoured. And they can cut through whole hordes of BETA.
Operational units
The Stellar Expeditionary Assault Force (STAF) is built around 6 assault army groups, each hailing from a SATO member nation. Each army group is comprised of 1.5 million organic soldiers and double that in combat drones. Here is a basic overview of each unit:
1st Terran Assault Army group (UNSA) (Army Type: Tankers)- the first full-sized army group of the United Nations Allied Forces, the 1st Terran Army Group (nicknamed Spear Tip, Ross's Riders, or Terra's first) was originally made up of units hailing from the UNSA's founding nations. Forces from the former North American Union, the Republic of China, Japan, Australia, the European Union, the African Union, Brazil, and their assorted colonies. Their focus is on offensive firepower and as such, is heavily composed of tracked tank and AFV divisions, artillery units, mechanized IFV-riding infantry, drone swarms, and ground attack aircraft. Attached is the 3rd Pacific Maritime Fleet and elements from UNSOCOM.
5th Seltishi Army Group (ZPD) (Army type: Siegers) - hailing from the cold lands of Seltishi of the Vissari homeworld, the 5th is a force experienced in fighting in mountainous and cold regions of the homeworld. That doesn't stop them from being effective warriors elsewhere, however. Its formations are heavily invested in mobile artillery pieces, power armour infantry, hover vehicles, and heavy bomber formations for fortress busting. The 5th is also the most defensive with the strongest defensive towers and planetary shields.
Royal 9th Spaceborne Army Group (ZSK) (Army type: Rapid Response)- an elite formation of the Royal Ztrakphor Kingdom, the 9th is one of the first full-fledged space mobile army groups of the new blood races. Its rise to fame came after its entire formation was deployed to stop smugglers from exploiting Pre-FTL civilizations. It's a light mechanized force to its formation is full of heavy power armour-equipped infantry, hover vehicles, heavy drone swarms, heavy orbital gunships, interceptors configured for ground attack roles, and light APCs.
Solaris Legionary Corps (K.A.R) (Army type: Tankers/sluggers)- an elite army corps of the Kel-Azaan's terrestrial ground legionaries, the Solaris Legionary Corps won fame during the republic's initial fight during the Age of Conflict before eventually joining SATO. Like the 1st Terran Army, it is a formation heavily focused on direct combat and is made up heavily of tactical armour units augmented with power armour supersoldiers, drone swarms, heavy artillery, and large amounts of bomber and attacker-class aircraft.
2nd Independence Legion (I.R.U) (Army type: Specialists and support) - The 2nd Independence Legion is the Roc's second unified army group but it is considered the first all-combat formation (the first legion is made primarily of special forces). It's veterans hail from the Roccan Resistance front of the pre-union days. For what they lack in heavy armour, artillery, and heavy aircraft, the Roccans make up for with large amounts of highly trained light infantry with mass drone cover, special forces, and heavy assault recon elements.
1st United Assault Army (F.T.C) (Army type: Jack of all trades) - The 1st make up a core element in the Coalition army. The FTC is a collection of pre-ftl slaves that banded together into one government. Relying on their large variety of species, advance reverse engineered technology, and ample funding from their government, the 1st is also the most willing to accept the use of forced controlled Xeno-morph aliens, volunteered Titanic beasts, salvaged Cybex War machines, highly indiscriminative drone swarms, and super soldiers.
