Chapter One: Sugar Smugglers
A/N: Hey everyone so I'm redoing this book and adding chapters to it since a friend wanted me to do more for Jackie. So old chapters are being removed for the time being and will be updated as I post the new chapters.
"Hyah!" Kelsey and Craig shout as they're playing push-foot.
"Ye dare challenge me at push-foot mortals?" Kelsey asks.
"Thine feet are no match for my leg meat. Hwah, hwah!" Craig shouts.
"Well you two are no match for ol' Twist n' Push!" J.P. says as he joins the game as Alexis is watching in wolf form.
"Ha! One down!" Kelsey shouts happily as she beats Craig by switching feet.
"Craig you okay?" Alexis asks as she helps Craig to his feet.
"Yeah I'm okay. You can't just switch legs like that Kelsey. It's against the rules of push-foot." Craig says.
"Craig we made up this game like two minutes ago." Kelsey says.
"A rule is a rule Kelsey." Craig says.
"Why do you have to be such a rule uh ghoul? I'll think up something meaner later." Kelsey says before she and J.P. go at it before he gets hit with an arrow.
"Ow!" J.P. shouts in alarm as he goes down due to the arrow.
"I win!" Kelsey shouts victoriously as she kisses her leg.
"Huh. An arrow. Probably my brother's. It has something attached to it." Alexis says as she pulls the arrow off J.P. with her mouth before handing it to Craig.
"Whoa! It's a note. Come to the overpass. Now. Signed GP." Craig says as he and Alexis look at the note.
"GP? Ugh! Was some kid tryin' to steal my brand?" J.P. asks annoyedly.
"J.P. it's from my brother. The Green Poncho. Must be important if he's telling us to come immediately. We better go find out what's up." Alexis says as she shifts to human form.
*Timeskip*
"Green Poncho! We came as soon as we could. What's going on?" Craig asks as the group arrives where Omar is.
"Craig I caught these agents of the King trying to sneak over from the other side of the creek!" Omar says as the group sees Raj and Shawn.
"Shawn? Raj?" Craig asks.
"Hey Craig!" Raj and Shawn say happily in union.
"Wait. You're friends with these guys? But they're the..." Omar says.
"Honeysuckle Rangers!" Raj and Shawn shout proudly.
"We're done with the King and his tyrannical rule." Shawn says.
"But he still controls everything. So our lives are..." Raj says.
"Super uncool." Raj and Shawn say in union sadly.
"Why do kids on the other side of the creek listen to that King? He makes you wear those costumes and he tells you how to play. What? Is his charisma-modifier plus-30 or something?" Kelsey asks.
"Even worse. He's got candy." Shawn says.
"You ever been over to a kid's house who has all the good snacks?" Raj asks.
"That's the King. His family keeps their pantry stocked with brand-name soda... Brand-name chips... And all the best candy!" Shawn says.
"Like Squishers." Raj says.
"That's how he gets kids to be his friends and do stuff for him. Like build forts, give him toys and of course stop anyone else from bringing candy to his side of the creek. Because without candy the King would be nothing." Shawn says.
"Like us. We're like a stick of gum at the bottom of your mom's purse. Alone, isolated and sugarless. Speaking of which! Do you happen to have one of those Coconuttles on you?" Raj asks.
"Uh yeah. I have one." Alexis says as she tosses the candy to Raj as he catches it.
"Oh bless your sweet, face Alexis! So good!" Raj says as he quickly eats the candy bar.
"All right it was nice to see some friendly faces for once. Honeysuckle... see ya." Shawn says as he and Raj leave.
*Timeskip*
"J.P. that's not how you dunk a Dipamoo!" Craig says as the group is back at the stump eating Dipamoos.
"Craig haven't you seen the commercial? A dunk for me! A dunk for you! There's no wrong way to dunk a Dipamoo." J.P. says.
"He is correct Craig." Alexis says as she looks at Craig.
"Yeah Craig you rule ghoul." Kelsey says much to Craig's annoyance.
"We got another message you guys." J.P. says as he gets hit with another arrow with a note.
"Again?" Alexis asks as she takes the note off the arrow.
"What's it say?" Kelsey asks as Craig looks at the note.
"Raj and Shawn want more candy. A lot more!" Craig says.
"Whoa. That's a lot of candy. Looks like we better get started." Alexis says as she sees the note.
*Timeskip*
"Okay! We got Coconuttles, Cinna-balls, Crumb-Nums, and Sprinkle Paws." Craig says as the group is with Raj, Shawn and Omar at the overpass with a basket full of candy.
"Speaking from experience you two are setting yourselves up for a monster tummyache." Kelsey says.
"Yeah. We love candy too but this might be a bit much." Alexis says.
"Oh this isn't for us. A couple of kids caught Raj sniffing the wrapper of that Coconuttle bar." Shawn says as Alexis looks at Raj.
"But instead of telling the King and judging me for sniffing trash..." Raj says as he smiles.
"They asked if we could get them some candy too!" Shawn says.
"Although I'm not so sure how we're going to sneak such a big order past the guards." Raj says.
"That would be a bit of a conundrum." Alexis says.
"Hmm. So you need some help smuggling forbidden candy into your side of the creek. Sounds very against the rules. Count me in since I'm not no rule ghoul!" Craig says as he looks at Kelsey.
"Sheesh! But I'm in too. Sounds devious." Kelsey says.
"Seems okay to me. I'm in as well." Alexis says.
"Yay! We get to wear our alternate outfits!" J.P. shouts excitedly.
"You guys find a hide out and we'll take care of the rest." Craig says.
*Timeskip*
"Okay guys remember we got to be careful about sneaking this stuff in." Craig says as the group is sneaking candy toward the place where Raj and Shawn are waiting.
"Craig we know." Kelsey says annoyedly.
"Anyway Alexis can you run back and grab us some more bags? We'll need them." Craig says as he looks at Alexis.
"Of course. Be back soon." Alexis says.
"And be careful." Craig says as Alexis nods and runs off back into the woods before eventually coming to a stop hearing a noise.
"Huh? Is someone there?" Alexis asks as she hears no response before beginning to turn around to leave only to stop seeing a boy with goggles in green clothing.
"Oh um hello." Alexis says nervously as the boy smiles and waves at her before he begins making hand signals as Alexis looks at him confused.
"Sorry. I don't really understand." Alexis says before the boy looks at her and points to his ear before he shakes his head.
"Oh. I get it. You're deaf. Can you maybe write what you're saying in the dirt please?" Alexis asks as she points to the ground as the boy nods.
"Who are you? I've never seen you before. And aren't your Honeysuckle Ranger clothes a bit dated?" The boy asks as he writes in the dirt.
"Oh um I just prefer the older look. Um I'm Alexis." Alexis says as she writes in the dirt.
"Well Alexis I've never seen you before. I saw you and some other kids bringing in bags. What's in them?" The boy asks as Alexis gives a nervous look.
"Oh uh just books. That's all." Alexis says nervously as she writes in the dirt.
"Books huh? You seriously think I believe that? I know an intruder when I see one. You are the girl that's been getting spotted with the Green Poncho and your friends are those candy smugglers I have been hearing about. And as Champion of the Waterliles and one of the King's Champions I hear a lot of stuff. Mostly through my companions but you get my point. But I won't turn you guys in on one condition." The boy says as he writes in the dirt while smiling.
"Okay... What's the condition?" Alexis asks cautiously as she writes in the dirt.
"I want you to play a game of hide and seek with me." The boy says as he writes in the dirt.
"A game of hide and seek? May I at least ask why?" Alexis asks as she writes in the dirt.
"Because I don't often get to stretch my legs or have any real fun around here. And besides look at it this way. If someone sees us they'll think I'm chasing you and if I lose I'll just say I lost you. But I respect your caution toward me. Just know that I'm being nice about it where as others wouldn't. So do we got a game?" The boy asks as he writes in the dirt.
"You'll really let me and my friends be if I play with you?" Alexis asks as she writes in the dirt.
"Yes. I'll give you 5 minutes to hide and after that you just have to stay hidden for 15 minutes and if you can you can go back to your friends and I won't say a word to any of you or turn you in." The boy says as he writes in the dirt.
"And if I lose?" Alexis asks worriedly as she writes in the dirt.
"Let's just say what happens will depend on how much of a challenge you give me. Now get to hiding while I start counting. Hide well. I'm good at finding intruders." The boy says as he writes in the first before he closes his eyes as Alexis runs off. Alexis quickly looks around for a place to hide before deciding to climb up into some trees as she catches her breath before freezing as she sees the boy looking around for her on the ground below.
"Phew. He's gone. Now all I have to do is stay hidden." Alexis thinks as she sighs seeing the boy leave. Alexis then waits in the tree for a while and looks at her phone seeing she only has a few seconds left.
"I can make it." Alexis thinks before she feels something cause the tree to shake slightly and sees the boy down below hitting his hand against the tree while smirking at Alexis causing her to give alarm and fall out of the tree before the boy catches her while smiling.
"Thanks for the catch. Alright. You win and I lost. Do whatever you're gonna do." Alexis says as the boy puts her down and she writes in the dirt before the boy smiles and shakes his head.
"No. I'm not gonna turn you in. You win this round. You gave me a good challenge Fortuna." The boy says as he smiles while writing in the dirt.
"Fortuna?" Alexis asks as she blushes while writing in the dirt.
"It means lucky. I learned it at school. You're lucky because not many can hide from me for that long and because you ran into me rather than someone else who wouldn't have been willing to give you a chance to avoid being taken in." The boy says as he writes in the dirt.
"So does that mean I've won the game? But I didn't avoid you for the full time." Alexis says as she writes in the dirt.
"You did for long enough. You and your friends are safe from me this time Fortuna. I liked the challenge you gave me. Now you better get back to your friends before someone else sees you." The boy says as he writes in the dirt.
"Can I at least know your name first?" Alexis asks curiously as she writes in the dirt.
"Jackie but I'm also known as The Arm. Thank you for the challenge Alexis. You're pretty good at this game. Perhaps next time we meet I can make the game more challenging. Anyway get going. I need to destroy these messages in the dirt. Wouldn't want anyone seeing them." The boy says as he writes in the dirt before Alexis nods and quickly leaves.
*Timeskip*
"Okay! This is a little ditty that I like to call The King smells!" Raj shouts as kids cheer before he begins singing much to the kids enjoyment as alexis walks in the hideout and over to the others.
"I see things went well huh?" Alexis asks.
"For the most part. Where were you?" Craig asks.
"Yeah. You didn't run into Maya or anything did you?" Kelsey asks.
"No. I just got a little lost is all." Alexis says.
"That's good. We were worried. Well looks like they don't need the sugar smugglers anymore. They've got each other." Craig says.
"And to think none of this would've happened if I'd never made fun of you." Kelsey says as she looks at Craig.
"Thanks Kelsey." Craig says.
"Thanks Kelsey!" Kelsey says mockingly.
"Okay." Craig says unamused.
