Enter the Hero Exam!
(Chapter Start)
Quirks. That one word meant a lot to Humans, ever since their sudden uprising. Why do they matter? Because they've changed the world, for better and for worse, depending on who you ask.
Quirks were known as a Meta Ability by the Meta Liberation Army, a special, superhuman ability an individual can possess. Quirks are generally unique to their user, and are classified in multiple categories, each of which having their own powers and abilities for the user to have. They appeared just over 200 years ago today, changing the world forever. While the cause was unknown, the world was quick to not take this gift given to them for granted...for those who had one anyway.
As of today, only 80% of the population of Earth were given Quirks across the countries. Most of which originate from the United States and Japan, both of which still hold a very high record of Quirked individuals. At the beginning, it was due to selective breeding programs that helped produce more efficient Quirks for each new generation. Nowadays, these programs are almost nonexistent, no longer needed by society in favor of allowing people to make their own choices.
However, this was a mixed blessing.
With these new powers growing, so did the ambition to try to come up on top over others. Everyone had the chance to get these powers, including criminals. With their new powers, it made them even more dangerous than ever before, becoming a part of a natural threat to the world known as Villians.
At the same time, due to these Villains, the need for Heroes arose as well. They came in all different shapes and sizes, each using their gift for a purpose that benefited all. Some were caped crime fighters that fought more aggressive Villains head on. Others put their gifts into actitley helping people, either medical or tech wise with their quirks. Some simply used them during their daily jobs in order to get by.
However, it was those who had never achieved a quirk that were truly affected.
The remaining 20% were simply normal humans, having nothing even remotely close to the Quirked individuals. Naturally, this allowed fear to crept inside most of them, never knowing what would happen if they were to meet one and if they attacked. They didn't have powers like them, they didn't change like them. Even after 200 years, most remain wary of them while only a few have not thought much differently of them.
This didn't mean things were easy however. In the beginning, Quirks were at first seen as a disease, due to some having irregularities and even more so for the danger they possessed. In time, they were processed into camps in order to determine if they were safe enough to allow into society. It wasn't until the first Heroes rose from the shadows, when a light of hope was found against Villains. Within the following months, their world had become quite like a comic book, something only thought of in dreams yet here it was right before them.
Now...the world continues on, unaware of how much it's going to change these following years.
(Japan, Musutafu)(U.A. University, Testing Grounds TB-Beta 4)
U.A. University was without a doubt the best Hero School in the world, having produced the most powerful and well known Heroes as of today. However, none could seem to hold a candle to the Number One Hero in the World, the Symbol of Hope, All Might. He is the pinnacle of Herorism around the world, inspiring those young and old of what the essence of a Hero truly was.
However one could not just simply walk in, even with all the money in the world. You needed to show the qualities of being a Hero in order to join. There was also a small, but written exam to see if you had the basics in mind in terms of education...this was still a University after all. After the written exam came the Combat Test.
The Combat Test was simple enough. Destroy certains robots to get a certain amount of points. If you couldn't destroy one, you hit the off switch on the back in order to get a point. 50 was the minimum so they needed to try as hard as they could to defeat robots in order to get into U.A. University. You also couldn't attack anybody else or it would be an immediate disqualification from the test and thus the school. Points were also tracked via wrist watch, given to them all before the test started. It was honestly simple for anyone who wasn't a jackass or just plain stupid.
Which leads the group of students-to-be right now as they waited within a room that had a wide gate that led straight into the fake city they would be testing in. Many emotions could be seen amongst the young adults. Confidence, fear, uncertainly, pride, so many coursing through them as they were mentally readying themselves for the upcoming test.
One such person was Kyoka Jiro, feeling more nervous and even more so uncertain. The test was a bit more than she expected, but she was confident that she passed. However this Combat Test was something she wasn't sure she could handle. At least with her Quirk.
Earphone Jack, which was a pair of headphone jacks hanging from her earlobes. She could hear pretty damn well because of it, being able to hear up to several meters around her and being able to pick up even the tiniest sounds. She had learned that she could easily channel the sound of her heartbeat through them in the form of a violent vibration attack so taking down the robots would be extremely easy.
However, because of her sensitive hearing she was also subjected to louder sounds much easier and that made it painful for the young girl to stay focused altogether...like right now.
'Assholes. Can't they shut up for at least a few minutes?' Jiro had thought to herself as she was forced to listen to the group around her. One of them was some asshole that was causally popping off mini-explosions from within his palms, which for her might as well have been next to her ears if they were normal. 'Damn it, how am I even gonna get a point with explody hands and the others yelling and beating down the robots!'
It was honestly just a bit unfair, especially considering she had truly wanted to get into U.A.. Sure there were other places, but U.A. was the best for a reason...and it just happened to not be far from her home either.
Now she wasn't sure how she was gonna deal with the robots if she was just gonna fall down with bleeding ears. However just before she could complain to herself further, she was poked in her shoulder. Acting on instinct, she instantly turned towards the source with her Earphone Jacks ready to jab at whoever was touching her.
It was a boy around her age, 18 maybe 19, standing a solid 6,0 feet high with a fair rosy tone of skin, short, spiky black hair and both of his eyes emerald green. He was also a bit built, not like All Might, but nowhere close to a skinny man a sandwich away from being called frail. Like the rest of them he was wearing a light blue gym suit, however she couldn't help to noitce the watch on his wrist.
At first glance, it seemed like a normal black and grey wrist watch, but the faceplate of it had an hourglass symbol on it that was grayed out and with a green button. It certainly looked like something fancy, so why bring it here?
"Um."
Oh right, people.
"I don't wanna bother you, but your...Earphones? Anyway, they're going a bit haywire and one of them kinda jabbed me." The guy said, raising his hand to show there was an imprint on it.
'Wait...SHIT!' Jiro cursed herself as she lowered her Earphones. Great, not only had she been unconsciously jabbing her Quirk around, but she had actually hit someone with them! "S-sorry dude, I'm a little nervous about this and...nevermind, are you okay?"
"Oh yeah, I'm fine. Just a little worried about you." He said, waving it off as if it was nothing which was a relief to her. Last thing she wanted to do was hurt someone who maybe didn't deserve it. Maybe being the key word. "So...I'm Rukido. Rukido Seito."
'I don't remember asking for his name...but maybe he's just being nice.' Jiro thought, reminding herself she had technically attacked him. "...Fine, Kyoka Jiro."
"Nice to meet you, Kyoka." Rukido said with a small smile.
"K-Kyoka!" She said, clearly embarrassed and a bit angry.
"Hmm? Oh right! Sorry about that, I'm from America and it's more common to call people by their first name where I'm from rather than last." He apologized. She breathed out, calming down a bit as she realized she may have overreacted a bit.
"It's fine..." Jiro said as she went silent again while turning away.
"..."
"..."
"...You said that you're nervous?"
'Oh come on!' Jiro thought, if just a tiny bit impatient. However she calmed herself once more as she turned to him. "Yeah. I mean, isn't everyone?"
"Probably. Definitely not Boom-Boom Boy over there. He looks like he's ready to kill anybody that gets too close. " Rukido said, referring to the boy that was firing mini-explosions. "Pretty sure he blew off his own dick by accident with how angry he looks."
Jiro couldn't help the snort that came out as she covered her mouth to contain her laughter.
"Hey, laughing. That's good. Easily a great way to get rid of stress, take my word for it." Rukido said proudly. As she finished, he spoke up again. "So, how do you feel now?"
"Just a bit better. Thanks." Jiro said.
"Anytime, but what have you worried about?" Rukido asked as Jiro sighed.
"My Quirk gives me super hearing and as you imagine being a room with a bunch of destructive people and ready to bash in some robot heads isn't really the best thing for me." She was silent about it, not wanting anyone else to hear her weakness. "I can handle the robots just fine, I know that, but it's gonna be a pain in the ass having to deal with all of that right next to me."
"...Would you mind some advice?" Rukido asked.
"Feel free." Jiro said. It wouldn't hurt at the very least.
"All of these people, as soon as they're given the go ahead, they'll rush out, pushing and shoving one another while running in a direct straight line to destroy as many as rust buckets as they can without thinking things through." Giving out a basic summary as to what is to come as he continued. "For you, I say take a right and avoid them altogether to deal with the targets on that side. U.A. would be smart enough to use up all the space of the fake city in order to give everyone a fighting chance."
That was...a good idea actually. Jiro however held onto some doubts by default. Such as if this was a way to weed people who were a threat or just an easy target. "And if you're wrong?"
"I doubt it, but I'll head with you." He said with a shrug.
"...You're taking this pretty easily." Jiro said.
"What can I say? I'm confident." Rukido said.
Before she could respond, a bell suddenly went off as the gates suddenly opened. With no time to react, Jiro was pulled through the confused and still crowd, and out into the open city as they immediately made a hard right into the city.
"Huh? Why are they leaving?"
"Heh, they're so gonna get in trouble!"
"What are you waiting for?! There are no countdowns in a real fight! Get moving!" Present Mic roared playfully over the P.A. Needless to say, all the students quickly rushed out in a panic as they tried to find their target. As expected they had all ran into the same area, pushing one another out of the way.
Meanwhile, Rukido and Jiro were far enough away as they came into view of a few robots casually walking around. "Fear me. I am a Villain."
"Well, it looks like you were right." Jiro said as she easily jabbed her Jacks right into one of the machines. She had then pumped a soundwave into it using her heartbeat and disabled it instantly. "Heh. Thanks, Seito."
"Please, call me Rukido." He said while scratching his check. Raising his arm up, he could only smile before speaking. "I'll leave you to deal with them, I'm heading towards the edge of the city."
"Huh? Why?" Jiro asked, confused. There were plenty of machines around for the both of them.
"Figure I'd spread out the herd. Besides, you're more than enough to handle the rust buckets." Rukido said with a wide grin. She could feel her face heat up a little bit as she watched him press a small button on his watch. The faceplate popped up as Rukido pressed down on it, instantly becoming engulfed in a bright green light.
As it faded, Jiro opened her eyes to see only a trail of dust leaving the area.
'...Okay, he's awesome.'
(U.A. University, Observation Room)
The Staff of U.A. took their jobs extremely seriously when it came to new students coming to their school. Whether it be Heroics or Courses, they make sure that whoever joins is giving a 110% while they were here. With that in mind, they were required to watch over their future students as they took the combat exam to understand what they would be working with for the next four years.
"These Listeners are something special, right Aizawa?" Mic asked his long time friend. He was promptly ignored, making the noisy teacher pout. "Aw, are you still mad I caught you?"
"Ohh? Caught him doing what exactly?" Midnight asked with a wide grin as she looked at the duo.
"Oh well he was practic-GAAAAA!" Mic was cut off as Aizawa slammed a fist across his face.
"Say a word and I will strangle you." Aizawa threatened, red eyes glaring into Present Mic's skull.
"Yeesh! Calm down will ya!" Mic yelled only to shut up as Aizawa raised his fist up again. "Sorry!"
"Oh boys." Midnight sighed as she shook her head at their antics. Then a mischievous smile came across her face. "Still, Mic is right. Just looking at those youthful students all makes me a bit hot and bothered!"
is attempting to erase past five seconds of life.
Erasure failure.
'Damn it.' Aizawa thought, never wanting to hear those words ever again.
"Well, they certainly are something to look at." A New Staff member said, one Toshinori Yagi to be exact. Though his weak smile seemed strained at saying that.
"I trust you adjusted well Mr. Yagi?" Nezu asked as he sat next to the man with a knowing smile.
"Yes, it has been a most welcoming experience." Yagi said, focusing on the screen. He wasn't sure if he could do well as a teacher however, but he had a guide book in his pocket for a reason. Besides he was gonna need it for a certain Greenette regardless. 'Maybe I should have given Young Midoriya a bit more advice with how to control his power...no, I think I did well enough. I think.'
Clenching your butt checks and yelling "Smash" sounded like a good way to get a Super Power to start working.
"We should hope so, I rather not let the students get the wrong idea about how they'll be treated here." Vald King said, looking out for anyone he wanted for his Homeroom Class. Turning his head to Power Loader. "These things are safe, right Higari?"
"About as safe when you ask every other time, Kan." Power Loader said in a dull tone. Vlad was always a bit of a push over when it came to the safety of the Kids taking the exams and even more so for his soon to be class. "The only thing that should really threaten these kids is either overwhelming numbers, which I doubt will be an issue, and the Zero-Pointer."
"Tch. You're going too easy on them." Aizawa said annoyed.
"You're talking as if these kids have any training at all. They'll still have to work in order to destroy enough of my machines before-" Power Loader went dead silent as he watched an update appear on his screen. "...What?"
"Something wrong?" Mic asked.
"...Someone just annihilated fifty of my robots." Power Loader said.
"Huh? That's not something to-"
"At the same time, groups on different streets and on the buildings...within barely ten seconds." Power Loader said, stunning most of his staff members...all except one grinning Nezu. "I need to see this."
(U.A. University, Testing Grounds TB-Beta 4)
Another row of faux villains were quickly destroyed as the blur sped right by before finally stopping. It was some kind of Semi-Armored Velocirator with black orbs on his feet, a black conoid helmet with a blue visor, a long black tail with white stripes on it. It seemed to be wearing a black, skin tight jumpsuit with a white stripe going straight down and...an green hourglass on it's chest?
It's visor opened showing a blue face with green eyes, black lines across it as it spoke. "Well, that was easy so far. Still, better make sure I got enough points."
His visor lowering, he was back being a blue and black blur around the edge of the testing arena.
(Observation Area)
They...didn't know what to say from actually seeing the blur not being...well a blur. Sure it wasn't strange, they had plenty of humanoid students affected by their Quirks that changed their appearance. However...they never saw this one in any of the testing rooms.
"...What...who is that?"
The question wasn't answered, everyone didn't have much to verbally say after seeing the virtually impossible.
Except for Principal Nezu.
He just laughed.
"Oh my, what a wonderful show he's putting on!" The Principal cackled, clapping his hands at the student's performance.
"You know this student?" Yagi asked, concerned. If only because of how...frightening Nezu was laughing.
"Rukido Seito. A grandson of an old friend of mine." Nezu said, his grin never fading.
"Um…should we be concerned?" Cementoss asked Midnight.
"Probably." The R rated hero replied, before looking over at the other testing centers. "He's absolutely thrashing everyone else's scores though."
"Well, I do believe it to be a good time to release the zero pointers!" Nezu exclaimed, getting the other faculty to slowly crane their heads over to the mouse.
"Are…are you sure? It's a bit early."
"Trial through adversity my fellow teachers! Present Mic, if you would be so kind."
Aizawa glared lightly at the principal before turning his head to Present Mic and screeched to a halt upon seeing the man's hand already pressing the button. Mic just deadpanned at his friend.
"What? He scares me more than you do."
(Testing Grounds TB-Beta 4)
Jiro wasn't sure how she was doing, but she knew she got at least a decent amount of points. She was just glad that she wasn't around too many people now and that she had taken down more than enough robots before someone like "Boom-Boom Boy" came around.
She had no plans on going deaf.
Deactivating another robot, she continued on her way to make sure she got enough points in before a loud explosion stopped her in place. The screams soon were filled with terror as large buildings began to tumble. Turning around she gulped, feeling fear filling up within her.
It was a stupidly large robot that was "lightly" attacking other students-to-be with it's massive arms. Soon enough she joined the crowd of people that were running away from the mechainle beast. However with the amount of damage down around them and the robot shaking entire streets, the foundation of other buildings began to crumble around them and down towards her. She didn't even have to react as a large portion of the building was about to fall on the group she was running with before a black and blur blur soon zoomed past them.
Next thing she knew, she was being carried by something and going at blinding speeds. It barely lasted a second as she was dropped on her feet next to other students, who looked equally stunned and confused. They were only a bit further away from the Zero-Pointers, but the large mech was currently on it's way. Next thing they knew, the blur stopped in front of them as it looked at them with it's visor up.
"Stay back and leave this to me." The Speedy Lizard had all, but ordered as he turned away from them. Raising his claw up, he hit it as he was engulfed by a familiar green flash.
"Wait, Rukido?!" Jiro muttered in shock as the light faded away.
In it's place was...something entirely new. Now there was a tall, pale green crystal creature with four sharp shards on his back, two small ones from his chest, green eyes and a sharp head. He appeared to be wearing a black, sleeveless jumpsuit with green lines along his legs and the same hourglass symbol on the left side of his chest.
"DIAMONDHEAD!" He exclaimed upon appearing. Looking at the new creature, the students could only feel stunned as he glared up at the machine. "Okay you pile of scrap, get ready for me."
(Observation Room)
Stunned silence filled the room, with the exception of Nezu's laughter. Transformation Quirks weren't rare, but they never had such a dramatic change like this!
"What..what kind of Quirk is that?" Midnight asked.
"I'll be sure to inform you as soon as the test is over with!" Nezu said giddily. Eraserhead gave him a glare, knowing full and well he wasn't gonna like what he was gonna hear.
For now though, they had to see how this was gonna end.
(Testing Grounds TB-Beta 4)
Diamondhead aimed his hands out as a wave of crystals appeared underneath him and lifted up into the air. Once he was high enough, he was soon creating diamonds to allow him to slide over the ground as he drew closer and closer to the robot's location. It saw him and soon swung it's arm at him with the intent to knock him back.
However it missed, having it's arm caught in place by a pillar of pure solid crystals while Diamondhead landed on it's arm. Holding his hands out, his hands shifted as he soon began firing crystal shards at it's head as they exploded on impact. The Zero Pointer tried to grab the crystal user only for Diamondhead to cover the arm it was running on into crystals as he slid past the arm. Reaching it's shoulder, his arms soon shifted into sharp blades as he created another pillar of crystals in order to help him lunge at the head.
Instantly he pierced straight through it's head, going straight inside. The Zero pointer stumbled at first until it's head exploded while it's body fell to it's knees, still held in place by the pillar of crystals. The students could only watch in a mixture of shock and awe as Diamondhead landed on the ground ahead of them, unharmed by the blast.
"The test is over! Good job everybody!" President Mic exclaimed over the P.A.
Dusting himself off, he ignored the looks he was getting before he slapped the hourglass symbol and was engulfed by another light. In it's place, Rukido appeared with a smile on his face. "And that as they say, is that."
"Yo, dude!" Rukido perked up as Jiro ran up to him. She punched him in the arm as he chuckled a bit. "Thanks for saving me from getting crushed."
"All in a day's work ma'am." Rukido joked as she stiffed a chuckle.
"Wow...never call me ma'am again."
"Done."
(Observation Room)
"So mind explaining what that was?" Aizawa asked a madly grinning Nezu. They were all stumped by what they saw and it made them wonder exactly what Rukido had done. "What's his Quirk?"
"Oh he's fully Quirkless." Nezu said, enjoying the stunned expressions on their faces.
"You allowed someone with no Quirk to take a test for the Hero Course?" Yagi asked, familiar words he once said entering his mind.
"But what about that Speedy Lizard and the Diamond Guy?" Mic asked, confusion clear in his voice. You don't just change into two completely different creatures and say you don't have a Quirk right after!
"XLR8 or Speedy Lizard as you call him and Diamond Head are their names. It makes Mr. Seito slightly angry if they try to come up with names for his transformations." Nezu happily informed them.
"Will you tell us already?" Aizawa asked, losing his patience.
"Rukido Seito is Quirkless, but is in possession of powerful technology." Nezu explained, pressing a button on the side. The screen lit up with life as the watch that Rukido had been wearing came into light. "This is how he transforms into new and different "creatures" via selection of his own choice."
"...A watch? A watch is how he's able to transform?!" Power Loader gawked in disbelief along with the other Heroes. He had never heard of anything that allowed people to transform into...well anything! There were some that supported transformation Quirks, but never once had there ever been a device created that allowed people to transform into whatever they wanted! "Who made this? Exodus? Gen-Tek? The Shields?"
"No, no. I'm afraid I can't give you any information as of this moment. It's for safety reasons, but you have nothing to worry about." Nezu said. The Heroes didn't know how to feel about it, especially considering a powerful device was within the hands of a young man.
"What is that thing anyway?" Midnight asked as Nezu chuckled.
"I believe he called it, the Omnitrix."
(Chapter End)
A/N: Wow...I like this so much more than the original. Anyway I'll say this right now. It isn't only gonna be Ben 10 you're gonna see here. Me and my friend are taking our time in recreating this new world here, involving elements from Marvel, DC and other Hero related media.
I don't have much else to say on this for right now. so...I hope you've enjoyed the beginning of this, that you've had a good day and that you review. Until Next Time!
