Yu-Gi-Oh/MLP Season 1 Chapter 8
Where it all began
"And then Sunset recommended that fortune teller, and well, you can guess how the rest of it went." Spike finished explaining what happened yesterday to Twilight, who wondered what they were doing there in the first place. The three of them were in their classroom, right after Miss Cheerilee's class had finished. "I see. Well, thanks, guys. Sorry I've been ignoring you." "We understand." Pinkie chimes in. "You're busy saving the world, so it's not like we have to take precedence." Spike nods. "Yeah, we just wish there was something more we could do to help."
Twilight hugs Spike. "Honestly, you guys being here helps me by giving a sense of normalcy. I mean, Ruby's nice but every day I find out another weird thing about her." The three laugh a little at the absurdity of it all. "By the way," Spike remembered something important. "Tomorrow's school spirit day." "Oh, yeah!" Pinkie exclaimed. "Which parent are you bringing over?" On hearing this, Spike tried to make a cutting motion over his neck in an attempt to shut Pinkie up.
"It's okay, Spike." Twilight replies. "You see, Pinkie, my parents went missing many years ago, so I'll probably just ask my brother to accompany me instead." As that awkward moment had killed the conversation, Twilight decided to get up. "Anyways, I'll see you guys tomorrow." The two of them wave as she leaves, then wonder what that blue light they saw yesterday was. Could it have been Starswirl?
As Twilight walked down the sidewalk on her way home, Starswirl asked her "What is Spirit Day? Is it like Halloween?" Twilight shook her head. "No, it's just a little get-together with the school where our parents, or in my case Shining, meet with our teachers and see how we're doing. I already talked to him, so it'll be fine." Starswirl wasn't convinced of Twilight's reassurances.
...
Years earlier…
"You see, Twilight? These markings mean that this tablet was written no earlier than the 9th century." Twilight's father, Night Light explained. Twilight oohed as she sat on her father's lap. The family was exploring a major historical dig site in an ancient civilization, and Night Light made sure to always find something to impress his daughter with on one of these trips.
"Mama, mama! Where did they do the blood sacrifices?" Shining eagerly asked, which caused Twilight to shrink further into her father's embrace. "Uh, I don't think that's part of today's excavation." Twilight Velvet explained. Off in the distance, their employer, Dr Faker motioned for the two to meet him. "Twilight," Night Light began, "I want you to have this." He took off his golden necklace, the Emperor's Key, and handed it to her. "This way, even if we're on the other side of the world, we'll always be together." The two hugged before he set her down to meet with his boss. Somehow, even then, Twilight knew that would be the last she saw of him.
...
"Hey, Shining?" Twilight asked from the back seat of his car. "What were Mom and Dad like?" Shining was surprised at the question at first, but remembered the date. It's officially been 10 years since they disappeared at that temple. "Whenever I got scared cause I thought there were monsters in the closet, Dad would fight them off with a flashlight. And Mom made sure to always cut up your meals in the shape of a star, so you would know that you were her special little star." Shining parked the car at the school parking lot shortly after. As they got out, Shining pulled his sister in for a hug. "Love you, sis." "Love you, Shining." The two then entered the auditorium building before going their separate ways.
Twilight quickly felt uncomfortable, still not completely used to large crowds yet. Ruby was back home investigating more about the city and if there was anything on Rainbow Dash. "Twilight!" Spike ran up to her through the crowd. "Hey, Spike! Where's Pinkie Pie?" "She's uh…" Spike points towards where Pinkie Pie is currently engaged in a duel with Tempus. "She got angry that they didn't let her take part in the planning of all of this."
Twilight giggled at the sight before joining Spike for the rest of the party. All the while, Starswirl, having seen enough, was inside the key, holding the new chaos number up for himself to see. That power I felt when I and Twilight manifested this card, it definitely came from this key. But where did it come from? How is it possible of so many things?
...
"As you can see, the data we acquired from my turbo duel with Twilight was quite extensive." Spitfire explained. "We now have a better understanding of speed spells and Speed World 2. However, I still feel as though we are lagging behind. The prototype felt like a bicycle compared to her vehicle." The dwarf contemplated her report. "I believe I know the discrepancy. We need a new energy source for the newer models. Fortunately, I know just where to get it." He snapped his fingers and the figure in white robes offered a large rotary phone which he used to make a very important phone call.
