Yu-gi-oh/RWBY Season 1 Chapter 9
The Growing Chaos
"I use my three level 2 Giant Germs in order to build the overlay network!" The floating amoeba are covered in a dark purple aura before flying into the swirling network. "Appear, Number 96: Discord!" At this point, Twilight had seen some pretty crazy numbers, but this one took the cake. A bloated, bulbous patchwork of different animal parts all smushed together. (Rank 2/0)
"Discord, attack Star Sparkle with Rampage of Madness!" The abomination floated towards Star Sparkle in a somewhat pathetic way. "If he's attacking with a weaker monster, there must be some kind of effect waiting in the wings." Starswirl warned. "Be on your guard." Twilight didn't let her guard drop, ready to use Star Sparkle's effect at any time.
Suddenly, the number on the man's face disappeared, leaving him bewildered as to where he was. Discord continued its attack, however, and Star Sparkle counter attacked with ease. (2100-0) "Huh." Twilight said. "Did that seem a little too easy? Why didn't he activate Discord's effect, whatever it was?" "I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye." Starswirl muttered as he absorbed the number from the hapless man. "I'm going to take some time to examine this new number, just to be safe."
...
Back in the Emperor's Key, Starswirl begins his work. First, he examines the memory within the card; Astral World under attack by something. Whatever the something was, it sends chills up Starswirl's spine. Just as he finishes the memory, the monster version of Discord emerges out from the card and into physical form, but its shape is different. It is lankier, the shape more coherent, but that was not the most striking difference. No, the biggest contrast was the expression, which was far more in control, more aware.
"Why, hello there, Starswirl." Discord introduces himself in a chilling, sinister voice. "Why are you different from the other numbers?" Starswirl demanded. "Why are you more in control?" "Oh, that's because I'm special." Discord answered as he flew around the section of the Emperor's Key they were in. "You see, I'm not just any piece of your memory. I'm your reason for being."
Starswirl widened his eyes. "What do you mean by that?" "You already know that you were made for a purpose, correct?" Starswirl warily nodded. "I know that purpose. You were made as a weapon, a terrible being of destruction. And if you let me help you out, just a little, I can help you realize that potential. What do you say?" Discord offers his hand to Starswirl, who seriously considers the offer, but decides otherwise.
"I may not understand emotions or others all that much." Starswirl answers. "But thanks to Twilight and her friends, I know a lie when I hear it." Discord sighs before shaking his head. "Oh, Starswirl. I was only asking to be polite!" He creates two balls of multi-color energy, then throws them at Starswirl who only barely dodges them. Starswirl flies out of the Emperor's Key, with Discord close behind.
...
Twilight was walking along the sidewalk with Spike when Starswirl suddenly appeared right in front of her. "Twilight! There's no time! You must give your necklace to Spike, quickly!" Discord then flies out of her necklace and starts grappling Starswirl. Twilight wastes no time as she her necklace off of herself. She yells at Spike to catch as she throws her necklace to him. Spike catches it reflexively, though he is confused by Twilight's actions.
Meanwhile, Discord siphons more energy into Starswirl, causing him to writhe in pain before disappearing completely. "Ah, Twilight." Discord says as he turns to face her. "I've heard so much about you. Let's be friends." Before she can respond, he seems to fly into her, causing her to collapse to the ground.
"Twilight, you okay?" Spike asks nervously. "Yes, Spike. I'm fine now." Twilight replies as she gets back up. "I'm sorry about all of that. I don't know what came over me. Could you be a dear and give me back that key?" She steps forward, her hand reaching forward, but Spike takes a step away from her. "You're not Twilight, are you?" Spike realizes. 'Twilight' smiles. "Clever little boy. But I will have it back. It's just a matter of if you live afterwards or not!" Spike puts on the Emperor's Key before pulling out his duel disk. "You want it? Then you gotta beat me in a duel for it!"
Discord cackles as he readies his own duel disk and duel gazer. "This should be fun. Though you know you stand no chance without a number of your own." Spike readies his duel disk and duel gazer as well. "Let me worry about that. I'll go first. I draw!" Spike announces. "I summon Flame Whelp!" A small red dragon appears. (Level 2/300) "Once per turn, Flame Whelp can deal 300 damage to you for every dragon I control." The dragon spits out a ball of fire at Discord, who yawns at the small amount of damage. (Discord 4000-3700) "I set a card and end my turn."
Discord draws his card with a sinister grin. "You have no idea the amount of pain you're in for. I summon Break Magician!" A wizard made out of toy bricks appears. (Level 4/1000) "Once per turn, I can decrease Break Magician's level to summon a monster from my hand or deck with a level equal to the amount of levels Break Magician lost. I summon Teleport Magician!" Two bricks fly out of Break Magician and collide into each other, forming Teleport Magician. (Level 2/1400) (Break Magician Level 4-2)
"Teleport Magician, teach that little twerp a lesson! And I don't just mean Flame Whelp!" The techno-wizard flies forward the baby, energy gathering at the tip of its broom. "I activate my face-down Dragon's Roar! If the only monsters I control this turn are level 4 or lower dragons, you can't attack!" Teleport Magician stops dead in its tracks, inches away from Flame Whelp.
"Fine." Discord replies. "I then activate my Mirror Mage, copying my Break Magician." A glassy double of Break Magician appears. (Level 2/0) "I use my level two Mirror Mage, Teleport Magician, and Break Magician in order to build the overlay network! I xyz summon myself! Number 96: Discord!" The abomination from before appears, though its shape is leaner, more ferocious, if not having the same sense of awareness as the form controlling Twilight. (Rank 2/0) "I end my turn."
"I draw!" Spike wonders just what he can do against a number card, especially one as frightening as that. "I summon Dragon Pride!" A regal, lion-like dragon appears. (Level 4/1800) "Dragon Pride lets me summon an additional dragon each turn. I choose Hard Scale Dragon in defense mode!" A stout dragon with thick scales appears. (Level 3/2000) "I then activate the effect of Flame Whelp!" Flame Whelp fires three shots at Discord, who is slightly pushed back by them, but pays them no heed. (Discord 3700-2800)
"Dragon Pride, attack Discord!" The lion-dragon charges towards the abomination, but the true Discord laughs. "Fool! When Discord battles, I can use one overlay unit to not only prevent its destruction, but make you take all the battle damage! World Of Chaos!" One of the overlay units is absorbed into Discord's body and the freakish thing lets out a sharp screech. The area around Discord and Dragon Pride has its colors inverted, and as Dragon Pride breathes fire on Discord, it reacts in pain instead. (Spike 4000-2200)
"I switch Flame Whelp to defense position and end my turn." (400) That's a pretty bad effect, Spike realizes. I'll have to find a way to stop it without battling. That means that for now, I need to protect Flame Whelp. "I draw!" Discord declares. "I summon Flare Magician!" (Level 3/1700) "If you're thinking of attacking Flame Whelp, just know that Dragon Pride doesn't let you attack any other dragons." Spike speaks up. "Alright, then." Discord replies. "I activate the spell Riryoku, stealing half of Dragon Pride's attack and adding it to Flare Magician." A light shoots out of Dragon Pride and into Flare Magician. (Dragon Pride 1800-900) (Flare Magician 1700-2600)
"Flare Magician, attack Dragon Pride!" Flame Magician twirls her staff and flame gathers around it before being shaped into a ball. The fireball is then thrown at Dragon Pride. "I use the effect of Hard Scale Dragon, negating an attack on one of my dragons once per turn." The short dragon blocks the fireball. "You're about to learn the true price of heroism. Discord, attack Hard Scale Dragon with Rampage of Madness!" The abomination flies towards the dragon, laughing maniacally all the while.
"And of course, I then use Discord's effect. World of Chaos!" The entire otherworldly process from last time repeats itself, with Discord punching the hard scales and Spike feeling the pain instead. (Spike 2200-200) "I set a card and end my turn, ending the effect of Riryoku." (Dragon Pride 900-1800) (Flare Magician 2600-1700)
"I draw!" Spike chuckles as he realizes how he can win. "Using Dragon Pride's Effect, I summon Hunter Dragon and Noble Dragon!" A dark and orange dragon (Level 3/1700) and a humanoid dragon in armor (Level 3/1500) appear. "Now, take the full force of Flame Whelp's special ability!" Discord frowns as five fireballs pelt him. (Discord 2800-1300)
"Dragon Pride, attack Flare Magician!" The lion-dragon charges towards the witch. "I activate my face-down Attack Vector! This turn, your monsters can only attack Discord!" The dragon is pulled towards the monster version of Discord. "I think it's time I dealt with you once and for all. World of Chaos!" Discord absorbs its last overlay unit and blankets the field in a color-inverting aura. To the real Discord's surprise, however, Spike is unharmed as Noble Dragon takes the blast for him before disappearing.
"By tributing Noble Dragon, the damage I would have taken is reduced to zero. Now your xyz monster is out of overlay units. Idiot. Didn't anyone tell you not to mess with the master of dragons? Hunter Dragon, take out Discord with hunting slice!" Hunter Dragon fires on the now powerless beast. (Discord 1300-0)
As Twilight falls to the ground, both Discord and Starswirl are shunted out of her. "Now that I am free, I won't allow you to harm Twilight anymore!" Starswirl proudly declares as he fires an energy beam at Discord, causing him to scream in terror as he disappears completely. "What did you do to him?" Twilight asked. "I banished him from the Emperor's Key." Starswirl answered. "He was too strong for me to control. I only hope that next time we have the strength to destroy him. Still, it begs the question: what did I go through to cause a memory that made a monster like him?"
...
Sunset walked through the alleyway, angry at herself. She missed another payment, and who knows what would happen if she missed the next one? A small flash of light caught her attention. Sunset turned to where she thought she saw the source of the light and found a card on top of a pile of garbage, more specifically, a number card, already fully formed. "Number 96, huh?"
