Prologue: When That Storm Comes

"Can I say goodbye?"
Belinda nodded. Her face was ashen, and there were purple shadows under her eyes. "He might be asleep. I don't know if he'll hear you."
Dave lay still on the bed, eyes closed, both legs in a thick cast. Carla tried not to look at them as she approached. She was glad she'd arrived before he was transported to Rustboro Hospital. He was going to receive the best care possible there and then go home to recover properly - but it would be a very, very long time before he was able to go on the road again.
And he wasn't even the most grievously hurt in the attack.
Carla gently placed her hand on top of Dave's. There were so many things she wanted to say - and now she was here, she couldn't even find the words.
"Carly?"
The voice was so quiet, Carla thought she'd imagined it at first.
His eyes were barely open. "Don't...forget about me."
"Never," she assured him. "I'll stay in touch."
Taking a deep breath, she froze her own tears and turned them into a swirling, icy ball of rage.
They'll pay for this, Dave. I promise.
Here we go…
This is where things get dangerous.
