Yu-gi-oh/MLP Season 1 Chapter 12
The Price of Beauty
Twilight walked out of the card store very satisfied with her purchase. She had brand new cards to help her in the World Duel Carnival (assuming her opponents actually HAD heart pieces this time). Ruby had also made some purchases of her own, but the two had agreed to split up in order to cover more ground. "And why did you get more xyz monsters?" Starswirl asked. "You already have the numbers."
"Because," Twilight answered. "Not all of my opponents will have number cards, so it won't be fair to use them all the time. Besides, it'd be good to have some options in case someone steals the Emperor's key again." Starswirl did see the logic to it, but why did he feel annoyed by the whole thing? The conversation soon ended as Twilight found more duelists to challenge.
...
Spike walked through the alley, hoping to find more duelists since the ones he'd just faced were pretty disappointing. Who even still runs Ojamas nowadays? As he turned the corner, he couldn't believe his eyes. Rarity, the famous fashion designer and love of his life, was right there in the alley, having just won a duel.
"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!" Spike ran over, his heart pacing. "Are you the real Rarity, fashion design queen?" Rarity, after picking up the defeated duelist's number card, something Spike didn't see, turned to look at him with a smile. "Why, how did you guess?" Spike squealed with excitement as he finally got next to her and began shaking her hand. "I can't believe that in a million years, I would ever meet you! I'm Spike, your biggest fan!"
"Say, Spike," Rarity began. "Since this is the Duel Carnival, why don't we have ourselves a fancy little duel right here and now?" Spike gasped as he immediately readied his duel disk and duel gazer. "That would be amazing!" Rarity rolled her eyes when she was certain he wasn't looking, as she reset her duel disk from the previous duel. The sooner this was over with, the better.
...
"I xyz summon Alchemic Magician!" Twilight declares as the green-haired alchemist appears. (Rank 4/1500) Starswirl frowned as that sense of annoyance reemerged. Yes, Twilight's earlier logic still held up to him, and Alchemic Magician would help her win the duel right this turn, but why did he still feel like she should run the number cards?
...
"Ladies first, of course." Rarity said. "I summon Fashionist Tracer!" A mannequin carrying various measuring tools appeared. (Level 4/0) "Once per turn, Fashionist Tracer can equip a Fashionist monster I control with a Fashionist equip spell. So I'll equip Tracer with Fashionist Role Model!" The mannequin measures itself with its various tools, creating a golden dress that it subsequently dons.
"This little number makes the equipped monster a Light Fairy with 1500 attack and defense." Wings sprout from Tracer's back, and it's wooden body is replaced with that of flesh and blood. (Fashionist Tracer 0-1500) "Role Model also lets me special summon a Fashionist monster each turn. So I summon Fashionist Dummy!" Another mannequin appears, though it simply holds perfectly still. (Level 1/0)
"You know, Fashionist Dummy makes me think of you in a way." Rarity remarks, much to Spike's delight. "Because I'm like a blank slate for you to impart your vision on?" "...why, of course, Darling. Now, I equip Dummy with Fashionist Noble Guard." The dummy is outfitted with a royal suit of armor. "This handsome uniform turns Dummy into an Earth Warrior with 1800 attack and 2000 defense, and it protects all my other Fashionist monsters from being targeted by attacks or effects." (Fashionist Dummy 0-1800)
"I then activate the field spell Xyz Colosseum!" All around them, several stone walls and pillars sprang up. "Not only are only xyz monsters allowed to attack, but they gain 200 attack as well. Now, I set a card and end my turn. Come on, my little Spike, show me your best xyz monster." And please let it be a number so this isn't a complete waste of time.
"You got it! I draw! I activate the spell card Hieratic Seal of Convocation, adding a Hieratic monster from my deck to my hand. I then activate Hieratic Seal of Supremacy, which special summons a Hieratic monster from my hand. Appear, Hieratic Seal of the Sun Dragon Overlord!" A glyph appears, and a floating golden orb covered in hieroglyphics floats out of the glyph. (Level 8/0)
"I then normal summon Hieratic Dragon of Eset without tribute by reducing its attack to 1000!" A lithe purple dragon covered in golden armor flies in. (Level 5/1900-1000) "I activate the effect of Eset, making the level of all Hieratic monsters I control the same as that of a dragon normal monster on my field, or in this case, Hieratic Seal!" Eset bows before the Hieratic Seal, being bathed in its glow. (Hieratic Dragon of Eset Level 5-8)
"I use my Level 8 Hieratic Seal and Eset in order to build my overlay network! I xyz summon Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis!" A glowing red dragon in the same golden armor as Eset appears. (Rank 8/3000-3200) Spike was ready to jump to the moon. Not only was he dueling with THE Rarity, but he was about to win, impressing her.
...
"Ebon High Magician, attack with Ebon Magic Attack!" Twilight commanded. Her new magician wiped out the opponent's monster with a destructive display of magic, winning her the duel. Starswirl raised his hand, but stopped himself as he remembered the opponent had no number monsters. Again, that strange feeling persisted.
...
"Fascinating." Rarity said with fake enthusiasm that Spike didn't catch. "But I said your strongest xyz monster. Is this it?" Spike raised his eyebrow in confusion. "Yeah, it's my best. It can wipe out the field and I've won plenty of duels with it." "But don't you have a certain special xyz monster," Rarity insisted. "One that is very powerful and rare?" It finally clicked in Spike's head what she was meaning. "Oh, do you mean the number cards?"
"Yes!" Rarity couldn't believe that it took that long for him to get it. "Do you have one or don't you?" "I don't. I know those things drive people crazy. If I ever saw one, I'd just tell my friend Twilight. Are you trying to hunt them, too? That's great! We could work together!"
Rarity held her hand to her head to massage her head. "You really don't get it, do you? Guess I'll just have to show you what I mean. I activate Summon Impediment!" Several warning signs appear out of the ground, blocking Sun Dragon. "This turn, your monster can't attack or activate its effects. Now, do you have any other plays, or shall we get on with this?" Spike shook his head, surprised by the sudden turn.
"I draw!" Rarity declared, taking all her effort to keep her anger out of her voice. She was a lady, after all. "The monster I am about to xyz summon can treat monsters equipped with Fashionist equip spells as being level 8. So I overlay my level 8 Fashionist Tracer and Fashionist Dummy in order to xyz summon! Appear, Number 15: Fashionist Arachne!" A large spider's egg appears, out of which bursts a mechanical spider with a sewing machine in place of a web spinner. (Rank 8/1500)
"Once per turn, I can give an overlay unit from Arachne to a monster you control as an equip spell." At this point, Rarity drops her smile. "One that makes it unable to attack, and its effects are negated. Web Ensnarement!" One of the overlay units is placed into Arachne's sewing machine, causing it to come to life. Arachne then spews webbing out of its mouth, ensnaring Sun Dragon.
"When Arachne attacks a monster equipped with an equip spell, it automatically destroys that monster and deals damage to you equal to that monster's attack points. Go, Immaculate Venom!" Arachne bites into Sun Dragon, creating a purple poison that spreads all over the captive monster before destroying it. (Spike 4000-1000)
"I then activate my quick-play spell Fashionist Repair. When a monster equipped with an equip spell is destroyed, it's returned to the battlefield and one Fashionist equip spell from my graveyard is placed on it." Sun Dragon is pulled back onto the battlefield and Fashionist Noble Guard is placed on it. (Sun Dragon 3000-1800)
"Aw, look! The dummy thinks he's some precious knight here to impress the girl!" Rarity taunts, and this time Spike realizes the insincerity. "But-but-" He stammered. "Bu-bu" Rarity mocked. "You are one of the worst I have ever had to deal with. You simpering, pathetic swine of a fan-base that I have to deal with whenever I go out. 'Oh, Rarity, please sign my autograph! Oh, Rarity, please duel me! Oh, Rarity, please make my miserable existence any less worthless!' But do you want to know what makes you worse than the rest of them? You actually dared to touch me with your filthy peasant hands!"
Spike was devastated by this tirade. How could she say all of these things? "The other effect of Fashionist Repair lets a Fashionist monster I control attack again if I activated it during my battle phase. Arachne, get both of these miscreants out of my sight with Immaculate Venom!" Arachne bites into Sun Dragon again, spreading its poison afresh. The resulting explosion knocks Spike to the ground (Spike 1000-0)
"There is one thing you're good for, I suppose." Rarity said as she walked over and placed her heel on Spike's head. "I win your Heart-Pieces!" She reaches down and grabs the heart-piece from his jacket. "I mean, it's not as though your real heart was worth anything." She then leaves, her cruel laughter stinging Spike as he is left in the alley.
...
"Twilight." Starswirl said as Twilight gained her third Heart-Piece, rapidly gaining progress. "Are you sure that you don't need the number cards?" Twilight looks over to him, puzzled. "What makes you say that?" "Well, ever since you started using those other xyz monsters, I've been getting this strange feeling, a sort of irritation." Twilight chuckles, which makes Starswirl even more confused. "That's jealousy, you dork. Don't worry, I'll still need your help. We're a team, remember?" Starswirl smiled, realizing his silly behavior. "Of course, Twilight."
