Yu-Gi-Oh/MLP Season 1 Chapter 13
Second Chance
Pinkie Pie tried calling again, but Spike refused to answer. "He's still not picking up." She told Twilight and Ruby. "What even happened to him?" Twilight wondered. "I've never seen him like this." "There's nothing we can do for now." Ruby comments. "We'll just have to trust that Spike can bounce back from whatever this is."
Both she and Ruby leave Spike's house where he has holed up in his room, leaving Pinkie Pie to wonder how best to help her friend. Later, as she is walking back to her own home, she sees a floating blank white card on her house's gate. Another number? She starts to reach for her phone to call Twilight, but a thought occurs to her. The number cards are pretty powerful. Maybe this one can help Spike. Hesitantly, she reaches her hand out and grabs the card.
...
Twilight was in the middle of town, looking for duelists to challenge to get her mind off of Spike. She then noticed Pinkie Pie was already dueling someone, and using a different deck at that. "I activate Triple Ace, summoning three level one monsters from my hand with the same name. Appear, Dice Leveler!" Three blue crystalline beings with a dice net on their chests appear. (Level 1/0)
"Well, it's good to see her trying something new." Twilight commented as she watched the duel. "I activate the effects of each Dice Leveler, rolling a die and increasing their levels by that amount!" The dice nets on Pinkie's monsters lit up on various parts before landing on six for all three. (Dice Leveler 1-7) "What marvelous luck." Starswirl noted. "The odds of rolling three sixes in a row are one in 216."
"I now use my three level seven Dice Levelers in order to build the overlay network! I xyz summon Number 7: Lucky Straight!" A tall roulette wheel appears before unfolding itself into a lanky jester-type figure carrying a cane in one hand and a coin in another. (Rank 7/700) "Lucky Straight, attack Crazy Box with Super Lucky Nova!" As the number charges forward, Twilight and Starswirl are taken aback by the fact that Pinkie has another number.
"When Lucky Straight attacks, I can use an overlay unit to roll a die and multiply its attack by that number for this battle phase." One of Lucky Straight's overlay units is absorbed into its cane, and a six-sided die pops out. The die rolls onto the floor, showing a six. (Lucky Straight 700-4200) Lucky Straight then flicks its coin which hits its target, a large six-sided die, destroying it and knocking out the opponent.
As Pinkie Pie grabs Crazy Box from her opponent, Twilight walks over. "Hey, Pinkie. Where'd you get that?" Pinkie regards her with a look of disdain, which surprises Twilight. "None of your business. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to find more numbers for Spike. And if you don't get out of my way, I'll just take yours too."
"Twilight, she is currently beyond reason." Starswirl reminds her. "You must knock the sense back into her once more." Twilight uncomfortably readies her duel disk and duel gazer. "I'm sorry, Pinkie. But I have to stop you, before you do something crazy." Pinkie silently resets her duel disk. "I'll go first. I draw!" Twilight announces. "I set a monster and a card, then end my turn."
"I draw!" Pinkie begins. "I activate the continuous spell Take a Chance. Once per turn, I can roll a die. If the result is a six, my life points are multiplied by 5. Otherwise, not only are my life points reset, but I won't be able to use the effect again and I'll take 1000 damage each standby phase. Let's roll!" A die shoots out of the card, and again rolls a six. (Pinkie Pie 4000-20000) "Another six?" Twilight asks incredulously. "It is likely that the number card is giving her incredible luck." Starswirl explains. "We may be fighting an uphill battle."
"I then summon Morphtronic Celfon!" A small cell-phone appears, which unfolds into an electronic monster. (Level 1/100) "I activate the effect of Celfon! Once per turn, while it's in attack position, I can roll a die, then look at that many cards from the top of my deck. If there's another level 4 or lower morphtronic, I can special summon it! Dial on!"
The numbers on Celfon's number pad light up randomly until the one is revealed. Twilight breathes a sigh of relief that she takes back when Pinkie reveals that the top card was another Celfon. "Appear, Celfon!" (Level 1/100) "Now, Dial on!" Pinkie repeats as the second Celfon repeats the sequence. This time, a six is revealed, and yet again Pinkie finds another Celfon. (Level 1/100)
"I then activate the spell Level Dice! I roll a die. If the result's a six, I can change the levels of all monsters I control to anything from one to 10. But anything else and my monsters are destroyed." Pinkie rolls the die and gets yet another six. "I choose level 7!" (Morphtronic Celfon Level 1-7) "Well, now she's just showing off." Twilight grumbles.
"I use my three level seven Morphtronic Celfons in order to build the overlay network! I xyz summon Number 7: Lucky Straight!" (Rank 7/700) "I set a card and end my turn." "Have I ever mentioned how I despise random chance?" Twilight says to Starswirl. "I draw! I flip summon Cloud Magician!" A sleepy mage made of water vapor appears. (Level 3/1100) "I then summon Poison Brewer in defense mode!" A wicked witch in purple robes appears. (Level 4/100)
"Cloud Magician, attack Lucky Straight!" Pinkie Pie laughs. "Really, Twilight? You know what Lucky Straight's effect is. Here, let me refresh your memory." Lucky Straight absorbs an overlay unit into his cane, then throws out a die. Of course, the result is a six. (Lucky Straight 700-4200) "I remember." Twilight replies. "Which is why I summoned these monsters. Cloud Magician has the effect that when it attacks, it can't be destroyed and I take no battle damage. And with Poison Brewer's effect, when a monster I control battles, I can discard a spell to make my monster's attack one higher than yours."
Poison Brewer throws a bottle into Cloud Magician's body, causing it to become purple. (Cloud Magician 1100-4300) "You always were clever." Pinkie remarks. "But even your genius can't beat pure luck. I activate my face-down Fairy Box!" A large toy box appears, within which Lucky Straight hides within. "When your monster attacks, I can flip a coin and call it. If I get it right, your monster's attack becomes zero for this battle phase." Lucky Straight jumps in and out of the holes on the top of the box, before finally appearing to punch Cloud Magician. (Cloud Magician 4300-0)
"Too bad. Guess I win the coin toss." Pinkie taunts, much to Twilight's annoyance. "I end my turn." Twilight grumbles as the effects wear off. (Lucky Straight 4200-700) (Cloud Magician 0-1100) "Patience." Starswirl chides. "This strategy will work eventually." "Eventually?" Twilight repeats. "Lucky Straight's luck isn't perfect." he explains. "As the first use of Celfon's effect proves. I suspect that it only works while Lucky Straight has overlay units. Once it runs out, so should Pinkie's, in theory." "In theory? Oh, joy."
"I draw! During my standby phase, I must pay 500 life points to keep Fairy Box on the field. (Pinkie 20000-19500) "I then activate the effect of Take a Chance!" Pinkie rolls another die, and gets another six. (Pinkie 19500-97,500) "Now, Lucky Straight, attack Cloud Magician! Super Lucky Punch! And of course, I activate Lucky Straight's effect." Lucky Straight absorbs another overlay unit, and rolls another six. (Lucky Straight 700-4200) Lucky Straight shoots his coin out, hitting through Cloud Magician. (Twilight 4000-900) "I activate my face-down Scatter Spell!" Twilight responds. "When Cloud Magician is destroyed, I can special summon a number of monsters with a combined level equal to that of Cloud Magician! I choose three Magic Pupils!"
Cloud Magician bursts apart into three children in wizard's robes. (Level 1/500) "I set a card and end my turn." Pinkie responds as Lucky Straight's effect wears off. (Lucky Straight 4200-700) "I draw!" Twilight announces. "I overlay my three level one Magic Pupils in order to xyz summon Number 83: Galaxy Queen!" (Rank 1/500)
"The effects of my Magic Pupils activate, letting my draw a card for each one since they were used to xyz summon a spellcaster-type xyz monster." Twilight explains. "I then summon Double Mage!" A magician in black and white robes carrying a two-faced mask appears. (Level 4/200) "When it's summoned, Double Mage lets me discard a card to activate Mirror Mage from my deck, targeting Double Mage." Double Mage holds his mask into the air, creating a double of himself. (Level 4/0)
"I overlay my level 4 four Double Mage and Mirror Mage! I xyz summon Number 39: Star Sparkle!" (Rank 4/2500) "I activate the effect of Galaxy Queen, using one overlay unit to protect my monsters for one turn." Galaxy Queen absorbs her overlay unit and bathes Star Sparkle and Poison Brewer in light. "I then activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Fairy Box." A lightning bolt appears and destroys the box.
"Star Sparkle, attack Lucky Straight with Star Power!" Star Sparkle fires an energy beam at Lucky Straight. "Lucky Straight, use your ability!" Pinkie responds as her number activates its effect, rolling another six. Yet as it does, the lights on Lucky Straight's cane power down, as Starswirl expected. (Lucky Straight 700-4200) "I counter with the effect of Poison Mage!" Twilight replies.
"Not gonna happen." Pinkie counters. "I activate my face-down Head Judging! Once per turn, when your monster activates its effect, I can make you toss a coin and call it. If you get it right, I send Head Judging to the graveyard. But if you get it wrong, not only is the effect negated, but I gain control of Poison Brewer!"
Twilight gulped as a coin appeared in her hand. "I declare heads!" She decided as she tossed the coin into the air. It arced through the air before landing onto the ground...heads. "What?" Pinkie exclaimed as Head Judging was destroyed and Poison Brewer's effect went through. (Star Sparkle 2500-4300) Star Sparkle's beam destroyed Number 7, much to Pinkie's dismay. (Pinkie 97,500-97,400)
"I end my turn." Twilight replied. "It's over. Your luck has run out. Give up, now." "No!" Pinkie snapped. "I have to do this for my friend! Spike's suffering right now, and I can help him. I draw! I activate the effect of Take A Chance!" Pinkie rolled another die, but this time it rolled a 3. (Pinkie 97,400-4000) "No! This isn't how it ends! I summon Draw Knight!" A knight in armor resembling a playing card appears. (Level 4/1200)
"When Draw Knight is summoned, I can draw a card and reveal it. If it's a level four monster, I can summon it. If not, I lose Draw Knight." Pinkie draws, then gives a weak smile. "Looks like my luck isn't completely out yet. I summon another Draw Knight!" (Level 4/1200) "I use my two level 4 Draw Knights in order to build the overlay network! I xyz summon Number 85: Crazy Box!" A large black box appears, with one eye where the one space would be on a die. (Rank 4/3000)
"Normally, Crazy Box can't attack, but I can use one overlay unit to roll a die. If the result is a four, I can negate the effect of one card on the field, meaning I can have Crazy Box attack you. Crazy Dice Judgement!" An overlay unit is absorbed into Crazy Box's eye, and the being's body spins. It eventually lands on a six before blowing itself up. Pinkie Pie sighs resignedly. "On a six, Crazy Box destroys itself. I end my turn."
Twilight draws her card with silence. "I'm sorry, Pinkie. I know you wanted to help, but this isn't the way. I switch Poison Brewer and Galaxy Queen into attack mode." (Poison Brewer 1000) (Galaxy Queen 500) "My monsters attack directly." Twilight watches on as her three monsters attack Pinkie Pie directly. (Pinkie 4000-1500-500-0)
Starswirl absorbs the two numbers as Twilight and Pinkie Pie approach each other. "I'm sorry, Twilight." Pinkie admits. "I just felt so powerless with whatever was bothering Spike." Twilight holds out her arms, and Pinkie accepts the hug. "I feel the same way. Right now, I think the only thing we can do is be there for him." Pinkie nods in agreement.
...
"Well?" Sunset asks as she stands over her most recently beaten opponent. "Oh, yes." Discord answers. "I think you're finally ready." Sunset heads out to find her prey. She was done waiting.
