Burning Hatred

Spike walked out of his room, where Pinkie and Twilight were waiting. "Hey, guys." He started. "How have you been?" Twilight asked. "Not great." He answered. "But I'm better now. Maybe I should tell you guys the whole thing…"

"And just where you, young lady?" the dwarf asked as Rarity made her way to the alleyway with no particular sense of hurry, despite being an hour late. "Oh, just taking out the trash. The duelists in this carnival have been particularly disappointing." Spitfire rolled her eyes, while the hooded figure made no expression at all. "Now, now, Rarity, is that any way to talk to your father?" the dwarf jokingly asked as he walked up to her. "Why, I have half a mind to send you to your room." He was fully aware of how non-threatening he looked, as he barely reached up to her hips.

The two burst into laughter for a few seconds. "Anyway," the dwarf resumed. "I called you all here because there was a leak. Someone stole our designs for the new duel runner last night, and I want you to-" "HEY!" Rarity turned around to notice Sunset at the entrance of the alleyway. "I found you." Sunset held up her heart-piece collection. "And I'm in the tournament. So let's duel already."

"Pardon me, Father." Rarity said. "It looks as though some trash refuses to learn its place. Sunset, darling, how's your sister?" Sunset glares as she readies her duel disk and duel gazer. Before Rarity can do the same, the dwarf stops her. "You are needed elsewhere. Let your sister take care of this." He motions towards the hooded figure, who pulls back her hood to reveal a fair face with pink hair.

"Fine." Rarity says with slight annoyance. "Fluttershy, don't screw this up." Fluttershy says nothing as she fires an energy lasso at Sunset's duel disk. "Hey, what's the big idea?" Sunset protested. "This is a duel anchor. It will prevent you from escaping." Fluttershy answers while readying her duel disk as the other three walk away. "It can only be removed when our duel concludes." Instead of readying a duel gazer, a tattoo appears over her left eye.

"I'll go first." Fluttershy says as she draws. "I set a monster face-down and end my turn." Is she insulting me? Sunset thought. "I draw! I summon Solar Marauder!" A fiery being in armor, carrying a halberd appears. (Level 3/1700) "I then activate Sunburn. Whenever you take effect damage, I can increase the attack of all pyro-type monsters I control by that amount. Marauder, attack her face-down!" The knight charges forward, Fluttershy's face-down revealed to be a large bear in battle armor. (Level 4/2000)

"Critter Fighter Bear, counter attack!" Fluttershy commands as the bear bats Marauder's halberd away and pushes the knight away. (Sunset 4000-3700) "Whenever a pyro-type monster I control attacks, Solar Marauder can deal 500 damage to you after damage calculation." Marauder creates a fireball in his hands before throwing it at Fluttershy, who doesn't react. (Fluttershy 4000-3500)

"The effect of Sunburn activates as well." (Solar Marauder 1700-2200) "I then activate the effect of Hot Streak in my hand. If my pyro-type monster fails to destroy your monster, I can discard it to make Solar Marauder gain 500 attack points this turn and be able to attack again." A red, fiery imp appears and places its hand on Marauder, creating a red glow. (Solar Marauder 2200-2700)

"Solar Marauder, try again." The knight charges forward, hitting the bear with renewed force, destroying it. "And Solar Marauder's effect activates again." (Fluttershy 3500-3000) (Solar Marauder 2700-3200) "When Critter Fighter Bear is destroyed, I can special summon a different Critter Fighter from my hand or deck. I summon Critter Fighter Hound." A hunting dog in battle armor appears. (Level 3/1700) Sunset chuckles. "I set a card and end my turn. With that, Hot Streak's effect wears off." (Solar Marauder 3200-2700) Perfect. If she dares to attack my Solar Marauder, my Ra's Punishment will not only negate the attack, but deal damage equal to Marauder's attack.

Fluttershy draws quietly. "I summon a second Critter Fighter Hound." (Level 3/1700) "I use my two level 3 Critter Fighter Hounds in order to build the overlay network. I xyz summon Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction." A large, purple giant appears with bits of its skeleton exposed. (Rank 3/3000)

"I then activate the spell card Xyz Potion, detaching all overlay units from Acid Golem to gain 500 life points for each." The overlay units from Acid Golem are absorbed into Fluttershy, bathing her in a green glow. (Fluttershy 3000-4000)She just threw away her xyz monster's overlay units just like that? Sunset wondered. "I then activate the spell card Mystic Box, destroying Solar Marauder and giving you control of Acid Golem in its place." Two magic boxes appear, with both player's monsters being pulled in. Solar Marauder's box is skewered with knives, then opened to show Acid Golem, now on Sunset's side of the field.

"Since you control a monster, and I don't, I can special summon Critter Fighter Squirrel from my hand." A squirrel in battle armor appears. (Level 1/500) "I then normal summon Critter Fighter Bird." A hummingbird in battle armor appears. (Level 1/100) "When Critter Fighter Bird is summoned, I can summon a different Critter Fighter from my hand or deck, then Bird's level will become the same as that monster's. I choose another Critter Fighter Squirrel." (Level 1/500)

"I overlay my two level one Critter Fighter Squirrels and my level three Critter Fighter Bird. Appear, Critter Fighter Griffon." A majestic griffon in battle armor appears. (Rank 1/1000) "Once per turn, I can detach an xyz material from Griffon to make all Critter Fighters I control able to attack directly." Griffon absorbs an overlay unit into its wings before starting to fly off the ground. "Griffon, attack Sunset directly with Fury Swipe."

Griffon flies past Acid Golem and hits Sunset with its claws. (Sunset 3700-2700) "I set a card and end my turn. Perhaps I should warn you; Acid Golem not only doesn't let you special summon, but it requires you to detach an overlay unit each standby phase or take 2000 damage. In addition, it can't attack while it has no overlay units." Sunset frowned. That's why she went to so much trouble to give it to me! I'm screwed while it's out.

Sunset drew her card with only the slightest hesitation. Acid Golem then released a purple gas from its body that had a foul odor. (Sunset 2700-700) "I bet you thought this whole setup was pretty clever. Peck me to death with your Griffon while Acid Golem holds me back. But too bad; no-one's holding me back ever again! I activate the spell card Overlay Down, returning Acid Golem to the extra deck in order to summon the monsters used to summon it to my side of the field, with their levels reduced by one and their effects negated."

Acid Golem fades out of existence as the two Critter Fighter Hounds appear on Sunset's side of the field. (Critter Fighter Hound Level 3-2) "I then summon Jigen Bakudan!" A small ornate time-bomb with arms appears. (Level 2/200) "I now overlay my two level 2 Critter Fighter Hounds and Jigen Bakudan in order to xyz summon! Appear, Number 96: Discord!" Discord flies into the battlefield with a laugh. (Rank 2/0)

"I then activate the spell Fires of Rage! Whenever it attacks, I can banish a Pyro-type monster from my graveyard to let him attack again. But in exchange, I can't attack with any other monsters this turn. So, attack with Rampage of Madness!" Discord flies towards Critter Fighter Griffon, his expression crazed. "I then activate Discord's effect, spending an overlay unit so that you take the battle damage instead. World of Chaos!" Discord eats an overlay unit and giggles to himself as the world around them becomes inverted in color. He then punches Griffon in the face, causing it to recoil in pain. (Fluttershy 4000-3000)

"I banish Solar Marauder for the effect of Fires of Rage. Discord, attack again and use your effect again!" Discord absorbs the spectral image of Solar Marauder before fighting Griffon again, repeating the process. (Fluttershy 3000-2000) Fluttershy reached for her face-down, but remembered Tron's words about if she should meet Sunset, and decides against it.

"I banish Hot Streak this time. Attack again!" The whole ordeal continues once more. (Fluttershy 2000-1000) "Unfortunately, that was the last of Discord's overlay units." Fluttershy points out. "Next turn, I can simply attack directly with Griffon and win." Sunset smirks. "Who said I was finished? I activate the effect of Sunburn, sending it to the graveyard to deal 1000 damage to you. Next time, don't get in my way!" The continuous spell transforms into a ball of fire that shoots out to Fluttershy, who is pushed to the wall. (Fluttershy 1000-0)

As the duel anchor disappears from Sunset's duel disk, Discord attempts to use Starswirl's trick to absorb Fluttershy's number card, but something seems to be blocking him. He shrugs to Sunset, who sighs as she walks over to Fluttershy. "If you want my number card, you can have it." Fluttershy says as she brushes herself off. She then hands over Acid Golem to Sunset, who takes it with some suspicion. "Just remember who your real enemy is." Fluttershy takes something out of her pocket and throws it into the ground, creating a cloud of smoke that lets her escape unhindered.

Fluttershy returns to her home, where Tron is waiting. "I have done as you asked." She says after bowing to him. "She now has the number card, and the process has begun. Though, it seemed as though her own number was already doing that." Tron giggles to himself. "Don't worry. That won't matter in the least. In fact, it may just help us along."
