With Friends Like These…
Doctor Faker placed the tape into the television with no small amount of annoyance. No one uses this medium anymore. It took him an hour just to find a compatible television! As he suspected, Tron was on the screen. Of course he was behind this. He could never let go of the past, could he?
"Hello, Doctor. How very nice to meet you. How are your daughters?" Tron paused as if Faker could actually respond before continuing. "That's a silly question, of course. I now how the one of them is doing, right now." He turns the camera to show Scootaloo tied to a chair, fighting against the restraints. "You probably have a million questions running through that blond mop on your head. How did I get in here? What am I going to do to your daughter? But those are all the wrong questions."
"No, the real question you should be asking is what you're willing to give up to get her back. First, you're going to give back the designs you stole. Don't deny it, I know it was you. Second, you're going to give me every number card in your possession. And third," Tron drops his smile. "I want to see your blood running on the floor as your children weep in despair." He puts back on his smile. "But in lieu of that, a million dollars. Ta!"
As the tape ended, Faker turned to Rainbow, not knowing what to say. "You can't be considering giving in, can you?" She protested. "Tron's a psycho. He'll never turn her over, no matter what we give him!" Faker looked away from her. "Unfortunately, right now, we have no choice. I can't risk an altercation without bringing harm to Scootaloo. I'm sorry." For a second, Rainbow thought she saw a glimpse of her old father back as he walked away. That was enough to convince her that she would have to take matters into her own hands.

Twilight proudly held up her completed Heart Piece as Pinkie and Spike cheered. "And with only one day left, too!" She boasted. The celebration was short-lived as she saw Rainbow Dash fly on atop Orbital. "Twilight Sparkle. I need to talk to you, alone." Twilight raised an eyebrow at this, but Pinkie and Spike decided to leave, not wanting to face someone who caused even Twilight so much trouble.
Once she was sure that the other two were gone, Rainbow lowered her head. "What I'm about to tell you is confidential. You can't tell a soul about this, not even that Ruby girl." "What's going on?" Twilight asked. Rainbow kicked a rock away from her, trying to hide her embarrassment. "I...need your help."
Twilight smiled. That figured for why Rainbow was being so bashful. "It's my sister, Scootaloo. Some bad people have taken her hostage. Normally, I would go in by myself, but with who's holding her, I know I can't do it alone. Please, will you help me?" Rainbow looked at Twilight with what seemed to be genuine desperation. Twilight nodded her head. "Of course I'll help. I never turn down someone in need."

Rainbow led Twilight to the warehouse where she knew they were keeping her. It was surprisingly easy to get in, which should have been a hint to what was going to happen next. They eventually found what appeared to be Scootaloo tied to a chair among several barrels near the wall. Rainbow snuck over to untie her, but stopped when she heard a ticking noise.
She turned "Scootaloo" over, and saw that it was nothing more that a toy, and the ticking was getting louder and faster. Rainbow ran as fast as she could before the decoy exploded, much to Twilight's shock. The speakers on the roof let out a laugh that sent chills through Twilight's spine. "What, you're not a fan of that Scootaloo? But I worked so hard on her! I suppose my daughters will have to find a way to properly entertain you. Rarity, Fluttershy, tear her soul from her body, and show it to Doctor Faker."
The aforementioned sisters jumped down from the girders and ensnared both Rainbow and Twilight with duel anchors. "So sorry, darling." Rarity taunted. "But you're not going anywhere." She looks over and giggles upon seeing Twilight. "Aw, you must be Twilight! I've heard so much about you. I see Rainbow was too scared to come here alone." Rainbow let out a frustrated sigh as her own powers were no use on the duel anchor. "Looks like we're not getting out of here without a fight. Just don't get in my way." As they readied their duel disks, Twilight felt a little hurt by that last statement.
"I'll go first. I draw!" Rarity announced. "I summon Fashionist Talent Scout." A mannequin carrying a clip board appeared. (Level 4/0) "Once per turn, it can let me special summon a Fashionist Dummy from my hand, deck, or graveyard." The mannequin waved its clip board, causing another dummy to appear. (Level 4/0) "I then equip Talent Scout with Fashionist Daring Passion!" The first mannequin is adorned with a revealing red dress. (Fashionist Talent Scout 0-1700)
"Daring Passion turns the equipped monster into a Fire Pyro-type with 1700 attack and 1600 defense, as well as granting it the ability to deal 500 damage for every Fashionist equip spell I control. I then activate the Field Spell Fashion Runway!" A large stage appears out of the ground, and both mannequins walk onto the stage. "When it is activated, I can add a Fashionist equip spell to my hand. It also protects all my Fashionist spells from being targeted or destroyed, including itself. Next, I equip my dummy with Fashionist Noble Guard."
The second mannequin adorns a suit of armor. (Fashionist Dummy 0-1800) "Noble Guard makes it so you can only target Dummy for attacks. Now, I finally use the effect Daring Passion." Talent Scout dances in a circle, creating a wave of fire that hits Rainbow. (Rainbow 4000-2500) "I set a card and end my turn." Rainbow growls as she draws a card. "Oh, dear." Rarity taunts. "Are you mad? A bad temper like yours is sure to cause wrinkles."
"Shut up!" Rainbow yells. "I'm going to break your little board in half! First, I activate Photon World!" The stage is destroyed as they are placed on a planet, drifting through outer space. "Now, whenever a Photon monster is summoned, all players without a Photon monster take damage equal to that monster's level times 100. To demonstrate, I summon Photon Crusher!" A glowing man carrying a double-edged sword appears. (Level 4/2000) Several stars fall out of the sky, nearly hitting the other three duelists. (Rarity 4000-3600) (Fluttershy 4000-3600) (Twilight 4000-3600)
"Hey, what's the big idea?" Twilight cried. "Don't get the wrong idea." Rainbow coldly addressed her. "You're just a tool to get my sister back. I don't really care what happens to you otherwise. I set a card and end my turn." Twilight frowns, but recognizes that for now, there's not much she can do.
"I draw." Fluttershy says. "I summon Critter Fighter Chameleon." A large green lizard in battle armor blinks into existence. (Level 4/0) "Then, since I control a different Critter Fighter, I can special summon Critter Fighter Lion from my hand." A golden lion in battle armor steps in. (Level 5/2300) "Once per turn, I can change Chameleon's level to that of a different Critter Fighter I control." Chameleon's body blurs and swirls until it is a copy of Lion's. (Critter Fighter Chameleon Level 4-5)
"I overlay my level 5 Critter Fighter Lion and Chameleon in order to xyz summon! Appear, Number 33: Critter Fighter Chimera!" A pale, translucent lion appears. (Rank 5/2400) "I then set two cards and end my turn." She looks over to Twilight with an inscrutable stare.
"Judging from what Spike said, Rarity will have a number card as well." Starswirl reminded Twilight. "Be wary, and set up your defenses." "I draw!" Twilight declared. "I summon Plus Magician!" A mage with a red and white robe adorned with the plus symbol appears. (Level 4/1000) "I then activate Star Point, which special summons itself as a monster." (Level 4/0) "I use my level 4 Star Point and Plus Magician in order to build the overlay network. I xyz summon Number 39: Star Sparkle!" (Rank 4/2500)
Both Rarity and Fluttershy look at Star Sparkle with surprise. "I set two cards and end my turn." Rarity's look of shock turned to a smile. This would be interesting. "I draw! First, I'll use the effect of Daring Passion, this time on Twilight, who I've been neglecting this whole time." Talent Scout dances again, and Twilight is hit by a rain of fire. (Twilight 3600-2600)
"I activate the effect of Damage Mage in my hand." Twilight replies. "When I take damage, I can summon it to regain the life points I lost." A white-winged magician in black robes appears. (Level 3/1200) Damage Mage then spreads her wings over Twilight, bathing her in a white glow. (Twilight 2600-3600)
"My, someone's trying to put up a fight." Rarity mocks. "That makes it all the more satisfying when you lose. My Fashionist xyz monsters can use monsters equipped with Fashionist equip spells as level 8. So I overlay my level 8 Fashionist Talent Scout and Fashionist Dummy! Appear, Number 15: Fashionist Arachne!" (Rank 8/1500)
"That's the number she used to hurt Spike!" Twilight says. "I activate my face-down Fashionist Recycling. When I use monsters as xyz materials for a Fashionist monster, I can reapply the equip spells to any monster on the field. I'll give Daring Passion to Star Sparkle," The dress flies out of the graveyard and grapples Twilight's monster. (Star Sparkle 2500-2000) "And Noble Guard for Photon Crusher." The same thing occurs to Rainbow's monster, holding it down like shackles. (Photon Crusher 2000-1800) "Just for fun, let's use Daring Passion again!" Star Swirl is thrown about, hitting Rainbow with its flames. (Rainbow 2500-1500)
"Arachne, attack Star Sparkle with Fashionable Venom!" Arachne bares its fangs as it crawls towards Star Sparkle. Both Twilight and Starswirl were aware of Arachne's effect from Spike, so they didn't wait for Rarity to explain. "I activate my face-down Safe Spell, ending the battle phase since I control a Spellcaster-type xyz monster." Arachne suddenly stops its attack, crawling back to Rarity's side of the field.
"Feisty little one, aren't you? I end my turn." Rarity replies. "I draw!" Rainbow Dash replies. "I summon Photon Thrasher!" A glowing man carrying a sword appears. (Level 4/2100) Again, several stars fire from the sky, much to Twilight's dismay. (Rarity 3600-3200) (Fluttershy 3600-3200) (Twilight 3600-3200) "I then tribute Photon Crusher and Photon Thrasher in order to summon my strongest monster!"
Rainbow summons a shuriken into her hand. "The galaxy that lurks in the darkness. Become the light of hope and my very servant." As before, Rainbow Dash throws it into the sky, where it creates a multi-color explosion. "The embodiment of light, now descend! Appear now, Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!" (Level 8/3000) This time, even more stars descend from the sky to pelt everyone else. (Rarity 3200-2400) (Fluttershy 3200-2400) (Twilight 3200-2400) "Would you cut that out!" Twilight demanded, but Rainbow ignored her.
"Galaxy-Eyes, attack Arachne with Photon Stream of Destruction!" Galaxy-Eyes fires a rainbow-colored beam at Rarity's monster, but Fluttershy intervenes. "I activate my face-down Critter Fighter Challenge! You can only target Chimera for attacks!" Chimera leaps in to intercept the beam. "I then activate the effect of Chimera! By using one overlay unit, I can declare a monster type, and Chimera becomes that type as well as it's original Beast-Warrior type. I choose Dragon!" An overlay unit is absorbed into Chimera, causing leathery wings to sprout from its back.
"Big deal." Rainbow scoffs. "So what?" "When Chimera battles a monster of the same type," Fluttershy answers. "It gains your monster's attack until the end of the damage step." Chimera begins to glow the same as Photon Dragon. (Critter Fighter Chimera 2400-5400) "I activate the effect of Star Sparkle!" Twilight responds. "By spending an overlay unit, I can reactivate Safe Spell. Magical Talent!"
Star Sparkle absorbs an overlay unit into his staff before twirling it, creating a constellation in the form of a white flag. Both Galaxy-Eyes and Chimera back away from each other, returning to their owners. (Critter Fighter Chimera 5400-2400) "Don't expect a thank you." Rainbow chides Twilight. "I end my turn."
Fluttershy draws her card without a word. "I activate my face-down Critter Fighter Snare, discarding a Critter Fighter to negate the effect of all monsters you control for as long I control a Critter Fighter." Two large nets appear, holding down both Twilight and Rainbow's monsters. "I then detach an overlay unit from Chimera and declare Spellcaster." Chimera absorbs its last overlay unit, and glowing runes appear over its body.
"I then activate Critter Fighter Prowl, letting my Critter Fighter attack all monsters you control once each. Critter Fighter Chimera, attack Galaxy-Eyes with Mutant Might!" Chimera charges towards the bound monster, its body glowing as before. (Critter Fighter Chimera 2400-5400) "I don't think so!" Rainbow replies. "I activate my face-down Battle Simulation! This battle phase, both our monsters have their attacks halved and neither is destroyed by that battle."
Both Chimera and Galaxy-Eyes shrink in size. (Critter Fighter Chimera 5400-2700) (Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon 3000-1500) The battle continues, regardless. (Rainbow Dash 1500-300) "Chimera, attack Damage Mage." Chimera turns and charges against Damage Mage. (Critter Fighter Chimera 2400-3000) It effortlessly tears Damage Mage apart.
"Lastly, attack Star Sparkle. Mutant Might!" Chimera leaps back and charges at Star Sparkle, its body adopting the same starry glow as its target. (Critter Fighter Chimera 2400-4000) "I activate my face-down Trap Reborn!" Twilight counters. "By paying half my life points, I can activate any trap from my opponent's graveyard. I choose Rainbow's Battle Simulation!" (Twilight 2400-1200)
The trap changes itself into Rainbow's card, causing both monsters to shrink. (Critter Fighter Chimera 4000-2000) (Star Sparkle 2000-1000) Chimera still tears at Star Sparkle. (Twilight 1200-200) "I end my turn." Fluttershy says, her respect for Twilight growing.
Twilight and Starswirl both look at each other. "I draw! I use Number 39: Star Sparkle in order to rebuild the overlay network! Chaos Xyz Evolution!" "Impossible." Fluttershy whispers. Rarity is speechless. How did this little twerp gain the power of Chaos? "Appear, Chaos Number 39: Star Sparkle Nova!" (Rank 4/2500)
Rainbow looks at the Chaos Number with mixed feelings. She still feels sore about losing to it, but it is nice to see it on her side for once. "I activate the effect of Star Sparkle Nova! For every overlay unit it uses, it gains 1000 attack for every spell card in my graveyard. Magical Potency!" (Star Sparkle Nova 2500-3500-4500)
"Star Sparkle Nova, attack Fashionist Arachne! Nova Power!" Star Sparkle Nova directs his staff towards Arachne, and the electricity around it surges forth. "I activate my face-down Emergency Rank Shift!" Rarity replies. "I take no battle damage from this battle." All the electricity arcs away from Rarity and towards Arachne.
"After damage calculation, I can use Arachne to xyz summon another xyz monster of the same rank. So appear, Number 40: Fashionist Cloth Assembler!" As the electricity courses through Arachne, it shatters, revealing a large mechanical golem with various looms and sewing machines attached to it. (Rank 8/3000)
"I set a card and end my turn." Twilight reluctantly says as Star Sparkle Nova's effect wears off. (Star Sparkle Nova 4500-2500) Rarity gives a small laugh. "I admit, I shouldn't have underestimated you. That's a mistake I won't repeat again. I draw! Cloth Assembler, attack Star Sparkle Nova! Crushing Industry!" Several strings fire from Cloth Assembler, attaching to Star Sparkle Nova and pulling it close.
"I activate the effect of Plus Magician!" Twilight replies. "By banishing it from my graveyard, a spellcaster I control gains 1000 attack points, but it can't destroy monsters by battle this turn." Star Sparkle Nova's body is covered in plus signs. (Star Sparkle Nova 2500-3500) It rips through the strings and pushes Cloth Assembler back. (Rarity 2400-1900)
"Okay. Let's play dirty." Rarity says, her smile turned into a glare. "I activate Cloth Assembler's special ability! By detaching one overlay unit, all other monsters on the field gain a string counter." One of the overlay units is fed into a chute on Cloth Assembler's body, and it fires more strings on all the other monsters, Fluttershy's included, which earns a glare from her.
"During my next standby phase, all monsters with string counters are equipped onto Cloth Assembler as equip spells that give it an additional attack. I end my turn." Rarity says with a deranged look to her. (Star Sparkle Nova 3500-2500) "This will teach you to mess with your betters, you peasants!" She then lets out a mad cackle that echoes into the air.
Scootaloo, who all the while was forced to watch from a secret compartment, closes her eyes. "Rainbow Dash, take this power so you can save me." Suddenly, Rainbow starts to glow bright red to the surprise of everyone but her, who instead smiles. "Thanks, sis. I draw! Twilight, help me one more time!"
Twilight nods as she responds "I activate my face-down Stardust Negotiation! I summon two monsters from my graveyard to Rainbow's side of the field, but in exchange, I take no more damage this turn." Both Damage Mage and Star Sparkle appear next to Galaxy-Eyes. "I tribute both of them to summon Photon Caesar!" A glowing man in a suit of armor appears. (Level 8/2000)
More stars appear to pelt Rarity and Fluttershy. (Rarity 1900-1100) (Fluttershy 2400-1600) "The effect of Photon Caesar lets me treat it as two overlay units. So I use my level 8 Galaxy-Eyes and Photon Caesar in order to build the overlay network!" A swirling vortex appears, and while Photon Caesar is pulled in, Galaxy-Eyes becomes a red and black spear, which Rainbow catches.
"Radiant galaxy, here and now become the striking light, and show yourself! Descend, My very soul!" Rainbow throws the spear into the vortex, creating a huge explosion. "Appear, Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!" A three-headed, red version of Galaxy-Eyes appears. (Rank 8/4500) Rarity looks on the monster with fear, but restrains herself. "How cute. But your little toy dragon will never take me down. Nothing can!"
Rainbow smirks at Rarity's little tantrum. "You know, they say that an angry attitude can cause wrinkles, darling." she mocks, reveling in Rarity's frustration. "When Neo Galaxy-Eyes is xyz summoned using the original, I can negate the effects of all other cards on the field. Photon Howling!" Neo Galaxy-Eyes lets out a primal roar that causes the other monsters to lose their color and glow.
"I then activate its other effect! By using one overlay unit, all other xyz monsters lose their overlay units!" Neo Galaxy-Eyes devours an overlay unit, before reaching out and grabbing the overlay units of Cloth Assembler. "For every overlay unit lost this way, not only does Neo Galaxy-Eyes gain 500 attack, but it can attack that many times this turn as well." Neo Galaxy-Eyes crushes the overlay units, causing its body to glow in intensity. (Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon 4500-5500)
"Are you ready to repent?" Rainbow growls. "Neo Galaxy-Eyes, destroy them with Ultimate Photon Stream of Destruction!" The dragon's heads fire a red beam of energy at both numbers, wiping them out and sending the sisters flying. (Rarity 1100-0) (Fluttershy 1600-0) Both Starswirl and Rainbow Dash attempt to absorb their opponent's numbers, but neither are successful.
Undeterred, Rainbow Dash walks up and grabs Rarity by the hair, pulling her up. "Talk! Where's Scootaloo?" Rarity chuckles, despite her injuries. "I'll never tell. Any pain you give me is made up for by that look of despair on your face." Rainbow drops her, tears running down her face. She cries to the air, feeling more helpless than ever.
