Yu-gi-oh/MLP Season 1 Chapter 17
Gathering The Challengers
Tron exited the room and closed the door softly and respectfully. "Fluttershy will be fine. She just needs a few days to rest. As far as we're concerned, she's out of the WDC." Spitfire and Rarity nodded thoughtfully. "What about the two number cards Twilight and Starswirl took?" The latter asked. "It's no matter." Tron answered. "If all goes according to plan, we'll eventually get them back anyway." "Forget that!" Rarity exclaims. "That little twerp just hurt our little sister! Are we going to just let her get away with it?" Tron stares her down. "I don't particularly care what you think, you insignificant pest. If you don't fall in line, I'll make you wish you were in Fluttershy's place and then replace you with Sunset." Rarity wisely kept her mouth shut, so as not to further incur her father's wrath. "Now, then." Tron pulled out a letter from his jacket. "We have a party to attend."
...
"Wait. This place is really called Heartland Tower?" Ruby asks incredulously as she and Twilight approach the tower. "Is everything named after that Heartland guy?" Twilight giggles as she and Ruby show their invitations to the security before being escorted in. The two are impressed by the level of glamour and style shown in the ballroom. It reminds Ruby of the various parties Yang would bring her to attend.
As Ruby inevitably drift towards the snack bar, or "Heartland Snack Bar" as she jokingly calls it, Twilight looks over the room to survey who else made it. As she suspected, Rainbow Dash was there, also looking over the place next to Doctor Faker, as well as Rarity and Spitfire, with Fluttershy missing of course. But much to her surprise, Sunset was there as well. In fact, she was right next to Twilight.
"Sunset!" Twilight exclaimed. "Haven't seen you in a while." Sunset smiles, then offers her hand, which Twilight accepts. "Figures you would make it here. You been collecting all those numbers?" A little weirded out, Twilight takes a second look at Sunset and realizes why she seems so off-putting. Her eyes are bloodshot, her skin pale, and she seems to be staring at Twilight like a shark hunting its prey. "Are you okay, Sunset? You don't look so good." Sunset scoffs and pulls her hand away. "I've never felt better. What are you, my doctor?" She then shrugs and turns away. "Whatever. I'll see you in the finals."
With that, Sunset walks away, leaving Twilight worried that maybe she should keep an eye on the poor girl. Ruby then returned, with a full plate of food as the lights dimmed. "Ladies and Gentlemen!" A giant hologram of Mr. Heartland appeared over one of the large curtains on the wall. "It's the Finals of the World Duel Carnival! Congratulations to our lucky duelists who have made it this far! Now, the finals shall be an exciting new development!"
The curtain is split, revealing a screen which turns on immediately. It then shows a duel runner similar to the one Spitfire used against Ruby. "Turbo Dueling! The finalists shall take to Heartland Stadium where they will not only use their best cards, but race to the finish line! Of course, since not all duelists may have proper motorcycle training, an auto-pilot function is installed on all models." Ruby and Twilight both grinned as neither would need it, thanks to Twilight's training with Ruby.
"The challenge will begin at-" The hologram cut off and the screen filled with static. It was then replaced with Tron's face. "Hello, there. My name is Tron. Or should I say…" He then pulls off his mask with dramatic flair, showing that half of his face is replaced with a swirling black void. "I am Byron Arclight. Years ago, I was a humble researcher working alongside Night Light under the employ of Doctor Faker." Twilight quietly gasped as Tron put his mask back on. How did this madman know her father?
"But Faker betrayed us. At an expedition in Peru, we were sent to recover an artifact. Little did we know that the artifact was cursed, radiating with energy from another dimension! Night Light and his wife were lost to another world, while I am cursed with this infantile body! Doctor Faker, I swear this pledge to you: you will pay for your crimes, you and your children and this whole stinking city!" Tron cackled as the feed was cut, Rainbow Dash ordering the security to find him. Meanwhile, Doctor Faker turned and left the party as the lights were turned back on.
Ruby set the plate down as she watched the crowd enter a small panic, then checked on Twilight. "You said Night Light was your father, right?" Twilight nodded. "Which means that if I want answers, Tron and his family has them." They search for Rarity and Spitfire, but the two have seemingly disappeared. "It is a waste of time to look for them." The two nearly jump as they turn around and see Tempus there, having stolen Ruby's plate of food.
"Despite Tron's threat, he and his family will still be allowed into the tournament, so you will get your answers eventually." Tempus paused to take another bite. "Trust me, I know the value of waiting." "Tempus?" Twilight asked. "What are you doing, here?" Tempus cocks her head. "Isn't it obvious?" She then shows off her complete heart-piece. "I'm competing as well. We should probably leave, before the crowd grows into a panic." The two find that they have to agree with that assessment, and promptly exit the tower.
...
"Do we have a deal, gentlemen?" Rarity asked as her potential clientele, the Fall-guys, inspected the suitcase full of money. The three goons look to each other, then to Rarity. "We have a deal, pretty lady." The middle one answered. "Just tell us who we're taking care of." Rarity smiled with grim satisfaction. "Her name is Twilight Sparkle. You make sure she is dealt with, permanently."
