The Breaking Point

"IT'S THE NEXT ROUND OF THE FINALS! ONLY EIGHT DUELISTS REMAIN! WHO WILL ADVANCE AND WHO WILL BE LEFT IN THE DUST?"

After the next few rounds went on without much trouble, Doctor Faker looked over the remaining duelist's files, attempting to assess the situation. Tron and his children were certainly the biggest obstacle, and had to be dealt with, somehow. Rainbow Dash was advancing with very little trouble. Sunset Shimmer was an aggressive one, but there was no doubt in Faker's mind that she would be burn out sooner or later.

That only left three duelists: Twilight Sparkle, Ruby Rose, and Tempus. Over and over again, they managed to reappear as a thorn in his side. He'd have to take special consideration for them. But perhaps this Ruby Rose could present an opportunity. One where Scootaloo would be able to have his burden lifted.

"ARE YOU READY FOR THE NEXT MATCH? IT'S THE EXCITING MATCH BETWEEN TRON AND RUBY ROSE! UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO TRON'S, UM, PHYSIQUE, THIS DUEL WILL NOT BE A TURBO DUEL!"

"Are you sure you'll be fine?" Twilight asked Ruby. "I'm getting a bad feeling about this guy. He seems...unhinged." Ruby giggled a little before answering. "Twilight, remember, I've faced this sort of guy a million times. This'll be a piece of cake. Don't worry about it." Twilight acquiesced, but still felt uneasy as she went to her seat in the stands.

Ruby stepped onto the arena at the same time as Tron, and felt a sense of satisfaction. Normally these types of creeps managed to slink away until the last possible minute. So the fact that she'd get to eliminate him so early was a nice change of pace. The two readied their duel gazers and duel disks while staring down each other, hoping to see what the other had to offer.

"I should be thanking you, Miss Rose." Tron admitted. "Thanks to you showing up out of thin air, all of this is possible. It's such a shame that I have to kill the golden goose." "Don't bet on it!" Ruby protested. "I'll make you pay for all that you've done and stop your madness." Tron laughed at her impudence.

"My, such a spark. I draw! I set a monster and a card face-down and end my turn." As Ruby draws her card, Tron is quick to act. "I now activate my face-down Discord!" A haunting tune plays through the field. "While this card is out, neither player can synchro summon!" Ruby smiles. "Well, that would normally be pretty bad for me, wouldn't it?"

"I summon Red Lotus!" (Level 3/1500) "When it's summoned, I can summon a level 4 plant from my hand. I summon Bounty Fairy!" A plump woman with long, flowing green hair appears out of Red Lotus. (Level 4/1500) "When Bounty Fairy is summoned, I can increase the level of a plant I control by one. I choose Red Lotus!" Bounty Fairy places a kiss on the plant. (Red Lotus Level 3-4)

"I use my level 4 Red Lotus and Bounty Fairy in order to build the overlay network! I xyz summon Cross-Breed Rose Dragon!" A dragon with glowing red scales appears. (Rank 4/2400) "Cross-Breed gains 500 attack for every overlay unit attached to it." (Cross-Breed Rose Dragon 2400-3400) "However, I'm going to be using one of those overlay units for its effect to destroy one card on the field. I choose your face-down monster. Rose Cannon!"

Cross-Breed devours an overlay unit, (Cross-Breed Rose Dragon 3400-2900) and transforms its tail into a cannon that fires on Tron's face-down, which is revealed to be a unicorn in black armor before being destroyed. "Cross-Breed, attack Tron directly. Cross Rose Flare!" The dragon fires a bright red beam at Tron, pushing to the edge of the arena. (Tron 4000-1100)

"RUBY ROSE HAS JUST DEALT A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO TRON! HE'S GOING TO HAVE AN UPHILL BATTLE IN ORDER TO CATCH UP!"

"I set a card and end my turn." Tron walks back to his spot, eyes crazed. "So this is your power. My, how exciting. I draw! I summon Heraldic Beast Basilisk!" A freakish lizard-like thing with a chicken head appears. (Level 4/1000) "I then equip your Cross-Breed with Heraldry Blast!" A golden shield with red markings appears on Ruby's monster.

"When your monster is destroyed, you'll take damage equal to half its attack. Now, Basilisk, attack Cross-Breed!" The basilisk charges forward with an unsettling cry. "And when Basilisk battles, I can destroy both monsters without performing damage calculation." "I activate my face-down Dragon's Judgement!" Ruby replies. "If your monster activates its effect while I control a dragon with 3000 or more attack, I can negate the effect and destroy it."

Cross-Breed dodges out of the way of Basilisk's bite and swipes it away with it's tail. "Then I activate the spell Advanced Heraldry Art! This spell lets me xyz summon a monster using Heraldic Beasts in my graveyard. So I use my level 4 Heraldic Beast Basilisk and Heraldic Beast Unicorn in order to build the overlay network!" Tron's monsters emerge from the graveyard only to be flung into the overlay network.

"I xyz summon Number 8: Heraldic King Genome-Heritage!" A beast like a stag with long, floating blond hair, wearing an elegant set of clothing and a mask carrying its number appears. (Rank 4/2400) "A number monster…" Ruby whispers. "Genome-Heritage has a few exciting effects." Tron explains. "If it battles a monster, I can use an overlay unit to steal its attack. If your attack position monster activates its effect, I can use an overlay unit to steal its effect, and when your monster attacks, I can steal its name."

I would be stealing your memories too, but I can't, Tron thought to himself. It's like something is blocking me, some new power. Unbeknownst to him, Ruby's full signer mark was glowing, protecting her from his crest. "Since I had to summon Genome-Heritage during my second main phase, I'm afraid you'll just have to wait and see it's beauty. I set a card and end my turn."

"TRON HAS TURNED THE TABLES WITH A NEW XYZ MONSTER THAT RENDERS RUBY'S USELESS! HOW WILL RUBY GET OUT OF THIS ONE?"

Ruby draws her card with some trepidation. As it stands, I stand no chance of taking his number down, not with Cross-Breed anyway. Luckily, I have some tricks left up my sleeve. "I switch Cross-Breed to defense position." The dragon kneels down to rest. (1800) "Now I can use its power safely. I use an overlay unit to destroy Discord. Rose Cannon!"

Cross-Breed devours its last overlay unit, (Cross-Breed 2900-2400) and fires another shot, destroying Tron's face-down. Tron shows a face of panic and despair at this. "I then activate the spell Double Summon, letting me normal summon twice this turn. I summon Thorn Lancer and Rose Girl!" (Thorn Lancer Level 4/1700) (Rose Girl Level 3/800)

"No, wait a minute!" Tron protests, but Ruby ignores him. "I tune my level 4 Thorn Lancer with my level 3 Rose Girl! The bloom of evolution blazes forth. Grow and grow ever stronger! I synchro summon Crescent Rose Dragon!" (Level 7/2400) As the crowd cheers at the sight of the monster, Tron's protests and babbling turn to wicked laughter.

"You fell for it! You absolute fool! I activate my face-down Tuner's Scheme! Since you just summoned a synchro monster, I gain control of it!" A set of chains appears to grab Crescent Rose, causing Ruby to realize how much trouble she's in. "I activate the effect of Crescent Rose, destroying Tuner's scheme. Crescent Shot!"

"Not going to happen." Tron replies. "I activate the effect of Genome-Heritage, spending an overlay unit to steal Crescent Rose's effect for this turn!" An overlay unit is absorbed into Genome-Heritage's mask, and the rest of the monster changes into Crescent Rose Dragon. Afterwards, it lets out an ethereal cry, causing the original Crescent Rose to stop resisting and be pulled to Tron's side of the field.

"I-I end my turn." Ruby says, shocked at the turn of events as Genome-King Heritage returns to its normal form. But on second thought, perhaps it was blatantly obvious. She had grown cocky and arrogant since she got here, so that caused her to slip up. "It's time to end this." Tron says. "I draw! Genome-King Heritage, attack Cross-Breed with Flash Impact!"

The monster charges forward and tramples over Cross-Breed, destroying it. "And of course, let's not forget about Heraldry Blast." The shield explodes, pushing Ruby back. (Ruby 4000-1600) "Now, Crescent Rose, betray your master with Red Rose Flare!" Crescent Rose fires a red energy beam straight at Ruby, knocking her to the ground. (Ruby 1600-0)

"Ruby!" Twilight cries out from the stands, but it is no use. She can't reach her friend. Tron skips away with childish glee as the security picks up and escorts Ruby. "Where are you taking me?" she asks, but they don't answer. Twilight watches as again, she is helpless to save her friend.

Ruby is brought to a strange laboratory, with more of that energy she sensed from the new duel runners pulsing through the lab equipment. "Ruby Rose, was it?" Doctor Faker shows himself. "I am Doctor Faker, and it's about time we got to know each other." Ruby looked the man over, unsure of what to make of him. "You're Rainbow's father, right?" Faker nods. "What's this energy that was in the duel runners? Whatever it is, it's not normal."

Faker smiles. "A clever one. This power is a lot like you, as it is from another world. In this case, the Barian World. Now," As Ruby's duel runner is wheeled in, he puts on some gloves and readies a table of medical equipment. "Let's see how your power and the Barian energy interact with each other, shall we?"
