Darcia Amaris, 12 District Ten Female
Darcia awakened several hours after falling asleep. "Another nightmare..." Darcia murmured quietly, gently rubbing her eyes. For the past two nights, she had been plagued by visions of
Arnold's death in her dreams. She couldn't bear it any longer, and at this point, she preferred to stay awake throughout the night.
The sun in the arena had just begun to reflect off the crystal-clear ocean water. Darcia guessed it was still early in the morning as her allies were still asleep. Luis had dozed off during his
watch, while Sunny was snugly wrapped in a sleeping bag she had acquired at the cornucopia. Darcia surveyed her surroundings, finding complete silence. The only sound she could hear was the rhythmic crashing of the waves against the shore. The silence was short-lived, as a sudden
noise pierced through the air.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
The beeping sound grew louder and drew closer to Darcia's location. The noise was coming from the sky. Darcia gazed up at the sky, trying to discern anything. Then, out of nowhere, a
small box attached to a parachute came into view. Darcia took a step back cautiously as the box landed near her boots. She examined the box from a safe distance, noticing her name inscribed
on it. Carefully, she approached the box and opened it.
Inside the box, she found a dagger larger than the one she had obtained at the cornucopia. Alongside it was a box of small chocolates. A note from Marietta was placed on top of the chocolate box. Darcia wrapped her fingers around her new dagger but decided to keep the chocolates in their box. She could save them for later, so she placed the small box in her
backpack. A few minutes later, Darcia's allies began to wake up.
Darcia greeted Sunny and Luis with a gentle voice, saying "Good morning." In response, Luis simply nodded.
Sunny, with a morning yawn, replied to Darcia, "Morning, Darcia. How long have you been awake?"
Darcia casually answered, "About an hour now," while playing with her new dagger.
Sunny, noticing the size difference between the new dagger and the one from the cornucopia, asked, "Where did you get that?"
Darcia replied, "I got it in a box with my name on it that landed earlier this morning."
Luis, shocked, asked, "You got a sponsor?"
Darcia smiled softly and said, "Yeah, it's from Marietta. She gave me the dagger and a small box of chocolates. She knows I love sweets."
Sunny grinned, expressing her happiness that Darcia received a sponsor, and said, "That's incredible, Darcia!"
Darcia nodded and replied, "Thank you."
Darcia then asked her allies, "Should we go exploring? I don't think we should stay in one spot for long." Her allies nodded in agreement.
Standing up and stretching her arms, Darcia gathered her belongings and the alliance set off.
As they ventured further into the boardwalk, Darcia noticed that the amusement park rides were running. This was a first, as the boardwalk had been mostly silent for the past two days. The
arena was now filled with the sounds of a running small amusement park.
Darcia admired the rides from a distance, wanting to ride them all. After all, who wouldn't want to have fun, especially someone her age? However, being in the Hunger Games, she suspected
that the rides were a trap.
Continuing their journey, the group heard two consecutive cannons go off in the distance.
Luis murmured, "I wonder whose cannon that was.".
Darcia muttered under her breath, hoping that both of the tributes were from careers. She despised the career tributes with absolute certainty. Crystal had killed Arnold, and Darcia
wanted revenge. However, she knew she couldn't act on her anger. She was just a child, not capable of taking someone's life. She wished that someone else would do it for her.
Sunny spoke softly, agreeing with Darcia's hope. If both of the tributes were from careers, their chances of survival would increase. Only one of them would be able to escape this place, if they were lucky. Darcia couldn't help but dwell on the possibility of her own demise, as well as the
potential demise of her allies. The thought was unbearable. All she wanted was to go home, like anyone would in the Hunger Games. She had to make it back home, she had to.
Sunny brought Darcia back to reality by tapping her shoulder. Concerned, she asked if Darcia was alright. Darcia replied with a lie, saying she was fine. But deep down, she wasn't fine at all.
Why did she lie? Was it to spare her allies from worry? Or was it because she had always claimed to be fine, even when she wasn't? Ever since she had killed her father in self-defense,
people had constantly asked if she was okay. And she always responded with a false sense of well-being, not wanting anyone to fret over her.
A few more minutes passed, and Darcia's alliance reached the end of the boardwalk. Luis suggested they camp there for the night, as they had reached the deepest part of the
boardwalk. Darcia and Sunny both agreed, and they began setting up camp.
As night fell, the boardwalk grew silent once again. Darcia couldn't help but think about District Ten and how they were watching the live feeds of the games. Arnold had been their best hope for victory, and now their last hope rested on Darcia, a small twelve-year-old girl. She didn't know if they had lost faith in her or if they were still cheering her on. The uncertainty weighed
heavily on her mind.
Darcia observed the sky as the fallen tributes were displayed, and she could only recognize two faces among them. These were the same tributes whose cannons she had heard earlier in the day. "There are only fifteen tributes remaining," Darcia pondered silently. She knew that she needed fourteen more deaths in order to secure her return home. However, the uncertainty lingered in her mind. Would she emerge as the victor and return home triumphantly, or would
she meet her fate in a small wooden casket? Only time would reveal the answer.
Day Three is complete and we're one step closer in Darcia's journey. This chapter was more relaxing, however the next chapter is one you don't want to miss!
I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
