Hannah was outside breathing the nightly air. Or she would if she was human.
She sent the Winchesters with the little info she had about the original scribe, Metatron. Castiel remembering the tablets he left on Earth before he left, went to find him. The Angel Tablet, Demon Tablet, Leviathan Tablet and a possible forth tablet that had no name. Castiel believed that forth tablet had a secret about God, but he wasn't sure of Its existence.
"We know about the first three? But the fourth? That's just a rumor." It was whispered that this particular tablet contained God's biggest Secret.
Before Metatron left, the few angels that knew him said Metatron denied its existence. Soon before The Great War started, Metatron disappeared from Heaven.
Raphael learned that Metatron written a diary of sorts before he left, but before Michael could get a hold of any of the tablets, he escaped from Heaven with all the tablets.
"Metatron is dead."
If he was alive, someone would have spotted him. Earth had only so many places to hide.
"But he may have reemerged. It's no secret God is ending things." Castiel was desperate.
Hannah sighed. She wished for the days where they went into towns performing miracles. Like the time they went on that mission in Egypt. They helped build the pyramids. Or during Noah's parting of the sea. It was low tide, but the moon's cycle was on the incorrect date. The Winchesters thanked them for the info, but Hannah had warned them that Metatron wasn't easy to find. If Heaven couldn't find him, then how could humans.
She was living on Earth for a short time, but she admitted she preferred living here than Home. Here, she was free. No rules, no blind loyalty, no obedience. She even was married. All angels had to follow Michael's rules. There was only loyalty to Heaven, no questions asked, or you'll be destroyed.
She wished she knew where Claire was. She wasn't her stepdaughter, since Castiel wasn't the father, but both had cared deeply about her. They considered her their child. Same with Jack.
A Few Years Ago
Claire was staring stonily at the wall. Children's Aid was finishing Claire's paperwork.
"Tell me Jimmy, where where you all this time?" Claire's file was thick, she was considered a runaway when the police arrested her for shoplifting. As a teenager, she was forced to live in various foster homes, none that worked out since Claire kept running away from home. She was staying at a juvenile detention centre for her own good. "Your wife filed for a absentee divorce when you disappeared." Claire's caseworker was giving Cas a look of disapproval.
"I had a mental breakdown. I didn't want to put my wife and daughter in danger and left for my own good." His vessel flinched when Claire stepped on his foot.
"What he means, he met a woman. My mom, she wasn't stupid. She knew." She gave Castiel a glare. "She dumped me as well, guess her pill addiction caught up to her." Amelia Novak was considered missing. "I don't need a babysitter, I was taking care of myself just fine."
The woman opens the folder.
"Shoplifting, breaking and entering, vandalism, running away. Mr Novak. What makes you so sure she'll be in a healthy environment?"
"I been remarried for a few years. My wife and I are very happy and raising a foster son."
Claire had to force herself to not roll her eyes.
"My son, Jack. He's the same age as Claire. He has excellent grades at school, and volunteers at the local animal center. My wife and I work full time to pay for his college. Claire, we want you to have the same things as Jack. We already have your room ready, as well as money for your clothes and other expenses."
Money? Claire perked up.
"Hmm. Your new wife, her name is Caroline Johnson? And she is divorced as well?"
"It was mutual. Her ex husband didn't contest it."
"I have to send a case worker for a background check, as well as a inspection."
Claire hoped she said yes. She was already planning on running away.
"Very well. I have to talk to Mrs Novak, as well as interviewing your son, but if things check out, Claire can be released in your care."
Two weeks later, Claire trudged up the walkway with her backpack.
"Flying would be easier." Claire's legs were sore from the long drive.
"I have to keep up appearances. Come in, lunch is ready."
"Whatever." Claire wasn't sure what to expect, but when she walked in the house, her stomach started growling from the delicious smells. "Your bribery won't work on me." One meal, a shower and a nap. Claire would be on the road in no time tonight.
Claire was starving. Hannah was a decent cook, Claire managed to polish off the last bit of soup.
"Make sure to do those dishes."
"Yes. Mom." Dumb angel.
After Claire did the dishes, both Hannah and Castiel sat her down with a list of house rules.
"You're kidding me." A list of chores, including a study schedule. "Movie Night? You two are delusional." Claire would have took off, but knew both would easily track her down.
"We also registered you at the local high school. You'll be starting tomorrow."
"That soon?" Claire scoffed. Hearing the door slam, both Hannah and Castiel looked up.
"Hannah? Cas? I'm home!"
"Is that Jack? The famous Prince?" She heard of a fancy angel. When she saw a young teen walking in, she was surprised. She expected, what exactly? Both Hannah and Castiel used vessels. This kid looked human. He was born in his own body.
When Jack walked in, he smiled at Claire.
"Hi. You must be Claire. I'm Jack. Your new brother."
Is he kidding? Guy was just as delusional as his "parents."
"I'm going to my room." Thankfully it was in the basement, away from everyone.
Claire waited till after midnight. It was risky, Castiel and Hannah never slept. But she knew neither was home. Jack was, Claire was going to be quiet, just in case.
She had her hand on the doorknob when she heard Jack's voice.
"You should give them a chance." Jack was sitting in the dark eating cereal.
"Why do you care?" Claire hated it here. Her room was nice, Hannah had good taste. She even had a new laptop, including a music stereo. But bribery won't work on her.
"Your dad, he wanted to protect you." He didn't flinch when Claire started yelling.
"You know nothing about my parents!" She witnessed Jimmy's final moments, he was killed by a demon. Claire begged Castiel to use her as a vessel to protect her parents from demons. When Jimmy died, Castiel took over his vessel.
Jack looked at her calmly.
"Do you miss him?"
"You some kind of dumbass? Rumor is your family is fucked up." She hated all angels. Especially God. He took her parents away.
"If you want to go. I won't stop you. But Castiel made a promise to Jimmy to always protect you." He gets up. "I can't sleep. Want to watch Scooby Doo?"
Claire was about to leave, but when it started raining, she turned around.
"Have some cereal. I hope you like Cookie Crunchie."
Winter was on its way, the rain was freezing cold.
"I can turn up the gas if you're cold."
Claire, not knowing what to do, puts down her backpack.
"I never seen this show." Scooby Doo was over.
"Animaniacs. I hadn't seen this in years. Move over." Claire ordered.
Claire and Jack slowly became friends, even tolerated Hannah and Castiel as her "stepparents."
She didn't mind having a place to live, unlike her other foster homes, no one bothered her. Of course her and Hannah butted heads, Hannah was strict.
"Yes mommy."
"Watch that tongue of yours, young lady."
"Harsh." Jack teased.
"Jack." Hannah warned.
"Sorry." Jack winked at Claire before he went to do his homework.
Claire picked up the broom. Hannah told her to tidy up the kitchen.
"Don't forget it's your turn to do laundry tonight."
"Yes ma'am." At least laundry was easy, Hannah and Castiel barely had any.
"It's movie night tonight, you can join us after your homework and chores are done."
Claire bit her tongue, that was her family's thing. Jimmy and Amelia rented movies every weekend.
"I'll make the popcorn." Castiel always made it plain, and Jack always liked caramel. Claire wanted real butter and salt on hers.
Claire never tried running away again, she didn't want to end up on the streets. She figured she'll buy her time, she'll be eighteen eventually.
The day she turned eighteen, they threw her a party.
Claire smiled at her gifts, Sam and Dean knew what to get her.
"Steel cuffs. Thanks Dean." Pervert.
"Here you go." Claire laughed at her present. "A book on Latin. You are such a nerd." She smiled at Sam.
"A lot of spells and anti demon incantations are written in Latin. We want you to be ready."
"Here." Claire eagerly opens Jack's gift. A new heavy duty backpack as well a swiss army knife. "Dean says it's a starter kit when you become a hunter."
"Jack thank you." She was touched.
She thanked Hannah and Castiel for her gifts, they gave her gift cards to the local mall.
Claire enjoyed her birthday party. Cheesy as heck, but they got her favourite cake.
Later that night, she had her bags packed and was ready to go to become a hunter.
"Hunting is dangerous. I seen so many go to Heaven before their time." Hannah argued.
"I'm not most hunters." Claire was itching to hit the road.
"The local community college is still accepting applications. It's not too late."
"With Armageddon on Its way? What's the point." Claire wasn't taking much, just the basics. She did bring her Ipod with her.
Both Castiel and herself tried talking her out of it, knowing how dangerous it was, but since Claire was a legal adult they couldn't stop her.
Claire did send updates for the first few months, they made her promise to keep in touch. After awhile completely disappeared from everyone. Claire thought she was invisible, then she met a man.
Hannah sighed remembering her first defeat. By herself, Claire was decent. She wasn't a fool, she was still new in hunting. Then she got kidnapped and transformed into a wolf. That is when she fully realized how dangerous hunting was.
Hannah was doing her work in Heaven when she heard Claire's prayers. She was crying out for blood. Hannah knew exactly what was wrong with her, she could already sense the change. She knew Claire wouldn't accept her help and called Castiel instead.
"Claire is missing?" Sam and Dean were in town on a case.
"Yep. Sorry for the deception. But I didn't know who else to ask."
"We'll find her don't worry." Dean knew how headstrong Claire was, plus how naive. She gets charmed easily by the wrong people. "Don't worry, we'll make sure she's safe." Dean hangs up the phone.
She was always one step ahead, but Sam managed to find her when they were tracking down a vicious wolf pack. They slaughtered every wolf, except the leader who kidnapped Claire.
Claire felt sick. That was a human heart in that fridge.
"I always thought I'll be hunting alone. But a wolf needs his pack. You tried hard, but I been around a lot longer than you." He chosen Claire to be his mate. She was young and healthy. "You'll be hungry soon, so I got your heart ready. Guy was healthy, soon you'll be too once you change. Our pups, they'll be strong once they're born." He murdered a innocent college student the same age as Claire and stole his heart.
"I'll die first." She growled. No way was she losing her virginity to a wolf. 'Someone help me.' She begged.
When Dean and Sam found her, she was overwhelmed by the smell of their blood. Their hearts, Claire could hear every heartbeat.
"Hurry Dean!" Sam could barely restrain her. Wolf Claire was strong. Before she could rip Sam's neck out, Dean punched her out.
Dean luckily knew a cure thanks to their uncle's storage locker and his notes and cured her.
"You sure this will work?" Daniel wrote the cure was guaranteed, but only if the newborn didn't taste human blood during the first twenty four hours. It was risky, the cure was risky to humans, plus very dangerous.
"He claimed some kind of secret organization stumbled upon it. So I made a few batches." Dean had a few vials in the cooler in his trunk. "You have the wolf's blood?" Both made sure they killed Justin, the werewolf that kidnapped Claire; but not before taking his blood to mix in.
The cure was dangerous, Daniel warned that the cure may be fatal. It was more dangerous to cure a wolf than a vampire.
Claire screamed in agony, the pain was immense. When her heart stopped, Sam gave her CPR.
"Sam?" She saw her dad Jimmy. He told her to go home. It wasn't her time yet. "Where am I?"
They had suggested to her that she go to stay with their friend Jody's.
She admitted she felt great relief on hearing the news, she herself would have cured Claire herself by bringing her home and watching over her. She was glad the Winchesters were around. She still wasn't happy Claire wasn't home, but Castiel had told her that Claire and Jack were adults and needed to be on their own. She was saddened, but she figured it was the parents job to let the children fly on their own.
This is what was they called the 'Empty Nest Syndrome.' Since she seen it on one of those silly daytime talk shows. The older couples on the show were sad their kids have left to live on their own, and missed them terribly. They cried that they never called or visited.
Hannah and Castiel had sympathized. They were attached to both and missed the sounds of two teenagers going about their day. Sitting down to dinner, movie nights if Claire wasn't out with friends. She called them lame for trying to pretend to be a happy family whenever they tried to include her. But she figured Claire secretly loved it. She was laughing and smiling during those times and often volunteered to make popcorn. She even missed Claire's and Jack's bickering. She missed that more than any angels in Heaven running around, never sleeping, always chattering about their duties.
Jack wasn't home either. He was away on a trip with his biological father Lucifer. Lucifer wanted to take him to the far reaches of the Universe, but he didn't knowing that God may track them down easily. Instead, they compromised and were currently on Luna.
They decided to stick with Earth and see all of her secrets humans were forbidden to know, like the lost city of Atlantis, as well as the remnants of the of the Ark of the Covenant. Also known as the "Hands of God."
Hannah remembered when God made it. She wasn't there, but she knew Gabriel was. None of the angels except a select few were allowed to see God's Face. God's true Voice was too much for humans, no human would survive hearing It.
So following his Father's instructions he left behind, Gabriel told the human shepherd about the Commandments. That the tablet was created by God Himself. Using his Father's Powers, The Tablets were created. The Ten Commandments written down on two tablets made out of rock made from a side of a mountaintop.
After the human shepherd left, Gabriel was happy to be working for his Father and told a young Hannah the story. Hannah with a mind of a child, was happy to hear about their Creator. She loved Him deeply and often asked Gabriel why God doesn't come visit her and her young friends, they wanted to meet God too.
"Gabby!" She flew over to him, hugging him. "You're back! Father. What was He like." Hannah was a innocent child, she was very curious about God.
"He's nice."
"Moses. He talked to God. Tell me, why didn't come God come Home? My friends and I. We been waiting all day." She heard that God was coming Home, her and her friends spent all day making gifts.
"He is busy Hannah. That present you made Him. I'm sure He'll love them." Gabriel hated breaking her heart. "His other children, they need Him too."
"But why? We were here first." Hannah teared up. "The humans see God more than us."
Gabriel was sympathetic. He kneeled down to her face and explained to her that God was very busy helping humans and spent a lot of time on Earth. He told her that God loved them with all His heart but was sad not to be able to be Home to watch them grow up. Out of the four Archangels, Gabriel was the one to spend the most time with the young fledglings.
"Will He ever come Home?"
Gabriel hugged her.
"Someday."
He liked telling stories, starting with how the stars and planets were created. Then after He was done, humans were born. Their names Adam, Lilith and Eve. He omitted the part of Lilith's transformation fearing scaring young Hannah and the younger angels. Lucifer at the time was starting his rebellion, and didn't want the fledglings finding out about how his older brother betrayed their Father and all of Heaven, due to Lucifer's jealousy. He had twisted Lilith to a horrible demon.
Hannah knew the bible got the timeline wrong about when Lucifer fell. It was much later. Humans were already out of the caves, and were beginning society.
God ordered all angels to bow down to humans, which all of Heaven did, except Lucifer. Lucifer was jealous of how God preferred to spend time on Earth instead of His children. He begged God to reconsider, seeing how selfish humans were. They were nothing like them. They were flawed, selfish and immoral. God had reprimanded Lucifer and demanded he obey. Lucifer angry at God's words, found one of the first humans, a woman named Lilith, who was created with Adam and transformed her to a twisted monster. He then found some other humans and twisted them too, proving humans can be tempted easily. God when He found out later was angry at Lucifer's disobedience and had him punished.
Humans at the time lived much longer than the humans of today. Lucifer hid Lilith and his demons in a secret place he created. But that wasn't the only part he did. He also soiled Eden, God's gift to humans.
Eden, one of God's perfect creations, was a Sacred Place God made, so Adam and Eve can live and be happy forever in a perfect Garden.
Gadreel was put in charge as a gatekeeper. His only job was to protect the Garden, plus Adam and Eve as well as the other humans from evil.
Evil. The word was foreign back then.
But Gadreel was a timid angel. He was kind hearted but meek. God thought that putting him in charge of His Sacred Garden would build his self confidence.
When God came to Adam and Eve, both bowed down.
"Father!" Adam was filled with joy. "We weren't expecting you!" He and Eve were shaking with happiness. "The others, they're out picking fruit."
Eve was nodding.
"What brings You here? If we had known, we would have danced and sing." Humans back then were innocent. Both were naked.
God told both that He was here on business. That He was here to tend to His favorite Tree.
"Your Tree?" Adam and Eve knew that Tree. It was in the middle of The Garden. "Don't worry, we won't touch It."
It was the most perfect Tree they ever saw. But everyone knew that it wasn't theirs to touch.
"You can't stay?" Both were saddened when God came back from picking a Apple. "When can we see you again?"
God avoided that question, instead He told them there was a new Gate guard.
"Gadreel?" Eve met him, he was a stern angel. "He's the new Gate guard?" She looked at his direction. "Okay. We'll see You soon." She waved at the angel standing a few feet away.
Both waved goodbye, and told everyone about God's visit. Everyone was happy, they all lived together in perfect harmony. Then one day, Gadreel made a mistake.
What no one was expecting was Gadreel opening the Gate.
Eve and Gadreel were good friends. They were trading stories about God.
"So Heaven, it is like Eden?" It didn't sound the same. "I guess for you angels it is home. But why would I leave this place? It's my home." Eden was beautiful. Eve couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
"That is where God lives. Mostly." He knew God hid Himself from the other angels. Even sitting on His Throne. "Someday I'll take you to see It."
"I like that." Hearing her name, she and Gadreel say their goodbyes. "I'll see you tomorrow!" She knew how lonely he got, Eve visited whenever she could.
Gadreel stood guarding the Gate, when he heard a hiss.
"A Snake?" Snakes lived in Eden, but this Snake wasn't something he ever saw before. Sensing something dark, he drew out his sword. "Who are you?"
"The Truth." The Snake hissed. "The Garden. I must go inside."
"Take one step, and I'll destroy you." Gadreel was confused when the Snake laughed.
"You are so innocent. God. He's hiding the Truth from you."
"What Truth?"
"Let me in, and I'll show you.".
"Leave. Now." Gadreel was confused when the Snake climbed on him.
"You always felt so small. The other angels, they won't talk to you or spend any time with you."
"That is none of your business." Gadreel, he always felt so awkward around his siblings. None ever went out of their way to spend time with him. But here, the humans talk to him everyday, especially Eve.
"Have you ever gone inside? Your siblings always do. Why hadn't you?"
"I have a job." Guarding the Gate. That was his job. He did go behind the Gate, there he and Eve sat and talked for hours.
"Let me in, and your siblings will accept you."
Gadreel took no time ripping the Snake off him.
"I'm not telling you again. Leave."
"Guess I have to do this the hard way."
Gadreel yelps as he is bitten, the last thing he saw was the Snake crawling in.
"Eve." He passed out.
The Serpent had entered.
"Gadreel? I forgot something! Gadreel?" That was odd. Gadreel never left his spot. Seeing a Snake, she yelped.
"What are you?" Adam showed her every animal he named. Except for the dinosaurs, the angels named them.
"My name isn't important. I'm here to show you the Truth."
"What Truth?"
"God's Tree. The Apple. Eat one, and you will know."
"That is Father's Tree. I won't disobey."
"But you wonder about the world outside Eden."
"Yes. But I heard the world is harsh and hard." Eve was curious herself, she saw the outside, it looked awful. "Gadreel said he'll take me to Heaven."
"Heaven?" The Snake laughed. "So safe." He uses his tongue to point in the Tree's direction. "The fruit. You know why your Father eats It on a daily basis?"
Eve shook her head. She was curious, but never questioned it.
"Because He keeps a Secret. Eat It. And The Truth will be revealed to you.'' He then slithered away.
Eve looked at the Fruit. Its Apples. They were the most beautiful and perfect in The Garden. She thought about the Snake's words. What was God's Secret? She sat on it for a minute. Then curiosity got the best of her. She picked an Apple and ate It.
Yum! This Apple was delicious! She loved apples, but This One was the most perfect. Seeing Adam, she waves him over.
"Eve, my love. I have returned!" When he saw the Apple in his hand, he was horrified. "Why do you have Father's Fruit?" Seeing a bite, he stares at Eve in disbelief. "You disobeyed Father."
"Did I?" Eve wondered. "I saw it."
"Saw what?"
"Everything." She hands the Apple to Adam. "Take a bite. God, He is hiding the Truth from us."
Gadreel, when he woke up, he saw Adam leading everyone to The Tree.
"NO!"
Gadreel was horrified. He was still helpless, he couldn't move. "Stop!" Father's Tree. The Tree of Knowledge was now tainted.
Soon everyone stared at one another in embarrassment.
When God returned the next day, He called for His children.
Adam and Eve ran to their Father, happy to see Him again.
"Father! You have returned!" Eve was wondering why God was looking at them with confusion.
He asked why were they covering themselves. They were covered in fig leaves.
"We were immodest."
God asked them how were they immodest.
"We were naked. It was not proper."
When God found out, He was angry. He had created a perfect Garden and only asked for one thing. He asked where Gadreel was. He wasn't by his post.
"Gadreel? He should be by The Gates." Eve went to see Gadreel. He wasn't there. She concluded he went back in Heaven for a visit.
Eve felt something new looking at God. The emotion would be called guilt. God's Eyes, They had a look of sadness. He looked at them, shook His Head and walked away.
Gadreel saw God coming towards Him and went on his knees.
"Father! Forgive me! For I have sinned."
God demanded an explanation. Did Gadreel open the Gate?
Gadreel, fearing God's wrath, admitted he was tricked.
"The Serpent. It tricked me."
He cried, apologizing on his knees, begging God for mercy. God was disappointed, telling Gadreel he broke His heart.
The disappointment of hurting his Creator was too much to bear and Gadreel cried his eyes out.
God then ordered all humans out of Eden and locked it with the Serpent inside. The few humans who saw God begged for forgiveness. God had stated He was saddened that they stole from Him. He had only asked for one thing and they let Him down. All the humans, including Adam and Eve sobbed with guilt. God gave them one more chance. But He did ask where Lilith, Alistair, and the others went. No one knew. Shortly after that, God left.
One thing about eating the Apple. It made everyone think. For example, Eve was asking about Adam's first wife. Hearing her name made Eve curious.
"Lilith? Didn't she leave you?" Eve always felt inferior to Lilith. Unlike Eve, Lilith wasn't made out of Adam's rib. She was long gone when Eve woke up naked next to Adam.
"I don't want to talk about it." Eve occasionally saw Adam crying, even before they ate the fruit. Especially in his sleep, he moaned out her name. Neither her and Adam ever mention where Lilith was, they assume she moved to the other side of Eden with the others.
They flinched when the Gates shut. The Apple. They all realized what Knowledge was. They regretted finding out the Truth.
Eve looked back at Gadreel who was brandishing a flaming sword. Gadreel's eyes were full of regret.
"I'm sorry Eve. Father's Word is The Law."
"I understand." Before Eve left with the others, she waited till Adam and the others were far away. Once she felt they were safe, she leaped in Gadreel's arms and kissed Gadreel with all the passion she had. Soon both were wrapping each other with limbs and wings. Gadreel carried her to the sky, where they were alone. "Goodbye my love." That one night. Eve never regretted it. She didn't need the Apple to know what true love felt like.
Gadreel said nothing, he waved goodbye as Eve ran to the others once she was back on the ground. He knew that was the last time he ever will see her. He picked up his sword, the weapon God gave him to guard with. The Serpent, It must be locked inside for all eternity.
Adam and Eve walked far till they reached a river. They called to the others, saying this will be our new home.
A few years later, Adam and Eve bore a son. The year after that, bore one more. They had many, but two of them were well known in Biblical Lore. Cain and Abel. They were rivals. Or so the bible says. In reality, both were close as can be, rarely apart, always looking out for each other, their children often played together, and both loved each other. They had heard the stories about God from their parents and wanted to meet Him. But Adam and Eve had told them that God had left for personal reasons, but whenever they asked, both felt tremendous guilt and teared up whenever God was mentioned. Over time, they stopped asking.
Total opposites, Abel was the more studious one. He had written many stories about God and how Creation was created and had asked others what God was like. The children of the original humans were wondering the same thing. So they had started trading stories about God and angels. One of them gossiped about the angel Gadreel, who never left his position at Eden. Some whispered about Eve, who was rumored to lay with Gadreel behind Adam's back when she was younger.
Cain was the more wilder one. He liked nothing more than drinking wine, and before he was married had many maidens he bedded with. He fell in love with one and started a family. He disliked writing and preferred to work on his projects around town. Building grass and mud huts, tending to his garden and raising his animals. Since Abel was too busy telling stories.
What Cain didn't know that Abel was talking to God. Or so he claimed.
"Abel! Have you seen Seth? He's supposed to help me tend the fields." He looked at Abel who was praying. "He never answers. Mother and Father said God left the Earth."
"Amen." Abel gets and looks at Cain. "He'll answer. I know he will." He points to his lamb. "Did you bring your gifts?" They were bringing gifts to God. It was the anniversary of God stepping the First Foot on Earth.
"Yep. I brought my best vegetables."
"Lets just pray that Seth doesn't bring more rotten fish." They both laughed, Seth was the slacker and always forgot to properly clean everything.
"Knowing Seth, he's probably smoking that plant again." All the men and women indulged, their parents never did. "Lets go."
Cain swallowed his jealousy as Abel was favoured. The warm sun, it shined brightly on the lamb.
"Oh well. Easy come, easy go." He walked up to Abel. "Congratulations." He shook his hand.
"Thanks." He didn't think his gift was very good, Abel's sheep were sick. He had no choice but to slaughter the healthiest one, even though his family needed it. "Seth did good, he actually brought in a decent gift. What did he call it?" That thing looked gross, but also fascinating.
"He says it's called a spider." Both shuddered when Seth picked it up and allowed it to climb up his body.
"Ew." Both laughed. They then called to everyone to take their gifts, they were going to have a feast.
They lived happily, even though they had seasons that were hard. Like the monsoon.
Eventually they got older, soon they were watching the fires of their mother.
"You think they saw God again?" They wiped away their tears. Eve died in her sleep. Adam was gone, he disappeared decades ago. Everyone believed he died of exposure when he went in the woods.
"Maybe." They watched the pyre, holding their wives who were crying. Once the fire were gone, they went home.
Abel never forgot his faith. He started praying again. He even started a church.
Soon the others came to join. Even Cain.
Abel prayed everyday. Always asking for advice, or talking about his day. He never met God, He left before any of the children were born. He grew up listening to the stories, how kind and generous He was, and how powerful. This was a year before Eve passed away.
"So God made you out of Father's rib?" Eve's once dark hair was now white, she was telling her grandchildren about her creation.
"Yep. God, He was so kind." Eve forced the tears down. "He breathed life into Adam, and made me. All of you. Always pray to Him, make sure you praise Him."
"Amen." The room says.
Abel was fascinated. He became obsessed. His parents had mentioned that they used to pray to God to communicate with Him. So Abel prayed. He prayed everyday for decades. Until one day, God answered.
'My son.'
"Not now. I'm praying." Abel had a strict rule. No one bothers him while he prayed.
'Abel. I answered your prayer.'
Abel looked up. Seeing nothing, he scoffed.
"Seth. Now isn't the time." His younger brother and his practical jokes.
'It is I, your Father.'
Abel looked up.
"Prove it." He met a few angels, most were respectful, Seth was best friends with one of them.
'Come outside.'
"Better not be a trick."
Expecting a practical joke, he jumped when he saw a bush randomly bursting into flames.
"Coincidence."
Then Abel's firstborn got sick a few weeks later.
"Father." He was dying of leprosy. He was far away from everyone, the disease was contagious.
"I feel sleepy."
"Don't say that." Abel didn't care about anything, he asked Cain to watch over his children. "Pray to God. He'll help." He and his son prayed. Then a miracle happened.
Abel was napping on a chair when he was getting shook awake. When Abel looked up, he was overjoyed to see his son strong and healthy.
"God answered our prayers father."
"Thank you."
'You're welcome my son.'
Abel was overjoyed. He did what no one was able to do, communicating with their Creator. But instead of telling everyone, he kept it a secret.
"Why can't I tell everyone?" Everyone was asking about God. Even the angels.
'My Presence must be kept a secret.'
"I understand." His now cured son just announced he was expecting his first child. "What do you want me to do?"
'Write stories. The first chapter, call it Genesis.'
"Okay." He went to a papyrus tree and made paper with the branches. "What should I write about?" He knew how to read and write, an angel taught everyone how to write the first words. A precursor to Sumerian and Canaanite, it was a language that was lost after The Great Flood.
'Ask the old man about Lilith.'
Abel was surprised to hear what he had to say.
"I always thought there was something off about my parents." His father Adam before his disappearance, always spent his spare time with an angel named Serafina. ''Poor Father." Adam had a lot of secrets. "And Lilith? I see." He was hesitant about writing the next part. "Is this true?"
"Yes."
Abel wrote it down. "Thank you." He handed the book to the old man. "Pass it around. Make sure no one forgets. Keep adding stories as they happen."
"What do you want to call this?"
"Uh." Abel had to think. "Call it...The Good Book. Or The Holy Bible." It had stories about God. He then left, leaving the book in his hands.
It was years later till God talked to Abel again.
His second task, sacrifice a animal.
Abel's wife shook her head in disapproval. She was holding their youngest who was crying.
He did what God asked, he slaughtered one of his animals.
"Skye!" She sobbed harder. That was her favorite lamb.
"Abel, was that really necessary?" She tried shushing their child.
"Let me hold her." He picked up his daughter. "You know we must obey God. No question. You understand?"
"But why her?" She was the friendliest of all the sheep. She cried harder.
Abel held her, shushing his daughter.
"It's God's Orders. We must comply. You understand? Don't worry, she's in Sheep Heaven."
"Okay daddy." She sniffed.
"Let us pray."
Abel did his next task, build plans for a tower. It took him months to draw, once he was done, he gave it to one of his nephews. Telling him this was a tower to Heaven.
He had no idea what his final task was, all God said He'll him when the time comes.
Abel couldn't hold it anymore. He had to tell someone. Seeing Cain, he told him he was talking to God.
"God. Really."
Cain was skeptical. God was never seen by anyone. Except their parents. But the original humans passed away from old age years ago.
"Yes. He's real. He cured my son who was on the verge of death."
"Any angel could do that." He would know. When he had that stomach sickness, an angel cured him.
"Not like this." Abel told him about God asking him to do tasks.
"What tasks?"
Seeing their childhood friend, he waves him over. "He'll believe me." Abel wasn't ready to tell Cain yet. Especially his final task.
Time passed. When Cain was in his fifties (so to speak. Humans lived longer back then)he came over to visit Abel and his wife. His wife wasn't home but Abel was. When Cain opened the door he overheard something horrifying. He overheard Abel reluctantly agreeing to sacrifice his new grandchild. Cain stormed in and demanded an explanation.
"What are you doing!" Abel, Cain was scared for him. Those eyes. Abel wasn't Abel anymore.
Abel had this glassy hollowed look in his eyes. He confessed to Cain he's been talking to God. For years now. He explained what God asked him to do and do exactly what He asked.
Write stories, sacrifice a lamb, and build plans for a tower. The last thing God wanted was a human sacrifice, his first grandchild.
Cain couldn't help but punch Abel out.
"You always were a daydreamer." Cain left him on the floor, he was going to confront 'God.'
He went to the walls of Eden, the journey long and harsh. He didn't know why he came, whoever was talking to Abel could talk to him anywhere he wanted. However, Cain had to make sure. Heaven was too far away, making Eden the only place God would be. He was going to confront God, asking why he wanted Abel to do such as horrifying task .
He made sure to avoid the Gates. There was an angel there who took his job seriously. Once he found a spot, Cain prayed. After a few hours he heard a voice.
'You're not Abel.'
"It is a sin to lie."
Cain was no fool. He demanded to know who he really was.
"Are you the Serpent? Who took away my parent's home?" Cain was always curious about it. But he remembered his parents lesson. That they woke up, no longer children, but aware. They always said if it was worth eating the Sacred Fruit.
The voice refused to answer it.
"Then give me your name then. Whoever you are."
"Lucifer."
"Lucifer? Wasn't you God's favorite?" Cain heard stories from the angels, that Lucifer was the most beautiful and spoiled of all the angels. When Man came, Lucifer became bitter and angry that he was no longer God's favorite.
"Was. Then you came along. You hairless apes."
Lucifer claimed the scummy humans took away God's love and attention.
"So? What do you want with my brother?" Abel was strong, but preferred to write and tell stories. Cain hated Lucifer already. He was a egomaniac.
Lucifer confessed he wanted revenge. He had a army, but needed human souls. Heaven's fallen won't be enough.
"Abel would make a fine student."
He confessed he was ready to train, he chosen a few souls, Abel included. His Hell Army would be known as the Hell's Knights. He wanted Abel to lead the charge as a general. The only thing he asked is he kill himself and go to Hell for his training. Suicide was a sin, and by killing himself, Abel was guaranteed to go to Hell instead of Heaven.
Cain demanded that Lucifer stop. Lucifer laughed. He was a powerful archangel while Cain was a mere human. What can he do? Lucifer can smite him right where he was standing.
Cain thinking about his baby brother spending eternity in Hell leading a fight against Heaven, made him sick. Cain promised Abel years ago, that he will always protect him. So he made the hardest decision of his life.
He begged Lucifer to take him instead and let Abel into Heaven. He will help fight as a Knight. He was older, stronger and more cunning. Abel was a good man, but not as physically strong as Cain. Lucifer agreed and ordered Cain to kill his brother. But that wasn't all. He gave Cain a Mark. He had evaded Cain's question on how he obtained it.
He explained that Abel's death was the only way he was guaranteed a spot in Heaven. But only if Cain can kill him with a jawbone of a donkey.
Cain was devastated. But he knew he had to save Abel from himself. He needed a weapon. There was branches but Lucifer had told him to make a certain weapon. So he had found a ass and slaughtered it. He then fashioned leather from the skin from the animal and created a knife from the jawbone. He left the weapon in the sun to tighten the leather rope. The next day when he returned he asked Abel, did 'God' talk to him recently?
Abel shook his head. He asked Cain, why did God stop talking? He abandoned me, he abandoned us. Again.
Abel sobbed on Cain's shoulders. He told his brother he lost the ability to talk to God.
His wife and children left Abel, and went to Cain's house scared Abel lost his mind. Cain was saddened to see Abel in such as state. He was mumbling incoherently, saying God abandoned him. Cain tried to calm him by hugging him. Telling Abel he will always love him.
"I never forgot my promise to protect you. I will always love you little brother."
Then with tears in his eyes he stabbed his brother in the heart. He cried hard as he stabbed him again and again. Abel's wife returned home and started screaming when she saw Cain committing murder. Cain after making sure Abel was dead, ran out. He ran all the way to the sea's cliff and knowing how deep the ocean was, threw the weapon over the highest cliff.
Cain sat near that cliff for hours sobbing. He knew he can never return home to his family. Abel's family will always see him as a murderer. Then everyone else. He didn't want anyone to see him. They will see him as a monster. Which Cain knew he was, and he will become something worse over time. He made the choice to leave everything he left behind without a second thought.
He walked away far from civilization and when the day came that the sun never came out, he killed himself. He died with a sad smile knowing his brother was in Heaven. He hoped Abel was able to meet God. His soul went to Hell and over time became a Hell Knight. He started training damned souls. Soon after that the Great War started. The Knights fought hard, Cain was a clever general.
Hannah was saddened to hear that story. Cain had returned to Earth after spending centuries in The Pit. He like Lucifer was sick of Hell and wanted to retire. He left Hell during the American Revolution and went on to live a quiet life. He met a human woman named Colette and fell in love.
To keep her safe, he decided to destroy all the Knights he trained one by one. None escaped, except one. Abaddon, one of the Knights was angry that their general left and wanted revenge. She then broke Colette's neck using her as a vessel and taunted Cain saying she was going to stay in his wife's body forever.
Cain believing his wife was dead stabbed Colette, not knowing Abaddon left. When she grunted in pain, Cain was heartbroken once again. He betrayed his loved ones.
He held her and begged for her forgiveness. Colette, pure hearted as she was, knew Cain was a demon. But loved him anyway. She loved Cain the moment she met him. She saw a light inside of him, always telling Cain that shred of humanity was the part of him Hell couldn't destroy.
Even when Cain told her what he done over the years, she didn't care. He was her soulmate. In her final moments, begged Cain not to kill again. Cain agreed and sobbed hard when his wife died. He was holding the weapon he used to kill Abel. Apparently it washed ashore, and he found it by chance when he was walking along a beach a century ago. He had used the weapon to eliminate the Knights. He then charted a ship heading to England and threw the weapon into the ocean. Knowing the weapon was gone forever.
Nowadays Cain was still alive. He was living a peaceful life running a small farmhouse. He ran a small honey farm, selling his honey to nearby towns. It wasn't just him that retired. So did a few demons.
The Princes of Hell were living on Earth. With Lucifer gone, none of them wanted to be in charge of Hell.
Azazel was living somewhere in South America with his demon children, but that was before both moved away. They were causing trouble, but the Winchesters were keeping an eye on them.
Ramiel was in a random town somewhere spending his time fishing.
Asmodeus was living in the Underworld leading the demons that resided there.
Dagon was spending time having fun with rich men and their money.
The angels were keeping their eyes on them just in case they wanted baby Jack. Rumor is that both Dagon and Asmodeus wanted the child for themselves, but knew not to to anger Lucifer, who was now on Earth.
There was a rumor that there was a second Knight Cain missed, but unlike the other Knights, no one knew who it was, or if they even existed. Supposedly they were Cain's star student who Knight's status was revoked after they betrayed their master.
Abaddon reemerged sometime in the 1950s. She slaughtered the American Men of Letters and went into hiding after the hunters took notice. Without the blade and the Mark, she was invincible. But once the Winchesters knew how to defeat her, she went into hiding.
The Four Horseman were also alive, Well sort of. Death was missing. Rumor was He was killed in another world. War was around but chose to leave from time to time to create wars in other worlds, Famine was also busy. He had left to go to a destroyed world, Pestilence was the only one that stayed. Without their rings they weren't as powerful. Pestilence was here with his son, Strife. Sometimes Strife was the one that rode, instead of Pestilence. None of them were interested or cared what God was doing.
Then The First War. The humans didn't remember it, the Battle was far away from them.
Since time moved differently in Heaven, Hannah was only a young adult, younger than Anna, who trained everyone along with Michael.
It was after midnight when Lucifer struck.
Alarms rang all over Heaven, it was Ezekiel that warned everyone that Lucifer was about to invade Heaven. Michael, realizing what was going on, gathered his Army. He was no fool, he knew what Lucifer was like and trained everyone to fight.
After the Great War started, Ezekiel, Hannah, Castiel and Balthazar were put in the same garrison. Before they left Anael had begged her boyfriend Ezekiel to stay behind. She loved him and was afraid of him not coming back.
"My love." Anael was too young to fight, some angels needed to stay behind to keep an eye on Heaven. "Please. Stay with me."
Ezekiel wiped away her tears.
"If I don't fight, there's a chance Heaven will fall. Earth, they need our protection." He was wearing his armor, he was chosen to be a lieutenant. "I'll be back."
The angels were getting ready to leave, all carrying weapons and armor from Virgil's vault.
"Please." She grabbed his wings. "Stay."
Ezekiel laughed and assured her that he'll be back, marching with a banner of victory. Anael with tears in her eyes begged him one more time to stay. She had a dreadful feeling that was the last time they would be together.
Balthazar came up to Ezekiel and laughed along with him, bragging that they were more than ready to fight.
"I seen Luci's Army. It's tiny!" Hell's Knights weren't very big, the army was small. Even with the dark human souls Lucifer brought. Including the fallen angels, numbers were few and far between. Heaven's Army was massive.
Balthazar laughed along with Ezekiel, and bragged to Anael that all of them were coming Home with victories. But the war was more bloody than they ever thought.
"How?! How are we losing?" Hannah wasn't expecting this. "We are many, they are few!" Many of her brethren were dead. And it was only the first wave.
"We were fools to underestimate them." Pride, Castiel should have known better.
"We need to change our strategy, those Knights. Whomever trained them is a strong General." Uriel had no choice but to ask Anna for advice.
Balthazar killed a dark angel, he had no choice.
"Traitor." He was so glad his new weapon worked.
The Archangels were fighting with God (so they claimed.) No other angel ever confirmed God was ever there.
"Now what?" Hannah was stuck on what to do next. "Where's Anna?" Anna was one of the lieutenants, she trained many of the angels.
"I don't know." Manakel was the Angel of Peace, but he knew his title was useless. "We got separated." Both Hannah and Manakel looked up when Nathaniel flew in.
"Castiel, Anna, everyone. They're trapped."
Castiel, Anna and Uriel were fighting the Knights of Hell and were in great danger. None of them expected how strong and well trained they were.
"Where is the General." Anna ordered her strongest angels to assassinate him. But when they left, they found themselves trapped.
"With Lucifer."
"Goddammit." She slaughtered a Knight that came too close. "The Rit Zein?"
"Healing." They were far from the battlefield, they needed to heal the injured. "Those that cannot be healed, they died with ease." Uriel prayed for them.
"And the others?" Balthazar and Ezekiel were missing.
"I don't know."
"Stay low, we mustn't fall." Anna and Uriel were strategists. "Castiel?"
"I'll do what you ask."
"Find them." Anna promised to bring Ezekiel Home.
Balthazar and Ezekiel were trapped where they were and overwhelmed with The Princes of Hell running as generals with classes of demons. One of them, Alistair, was very sadistic. He tortured weaker angels before killing them.
Lilith was on the front lines with Lucifer and Cain. As the first demon, she was the strongest. Together, her and Cain placed traps that killed angels on sight.
"We stay here, we're dead." Ezekiel moaned. Balthazar and Ezekiel were surrounded but hidden. "We need reinforcements."
"You need weapons." That was a lie, Balthazar was going to bring Ezekiel back to Anael. "I see a path. Lets go Home." Balthazar knew, that would be the last time Ezekiel would see Heaven.
Once they returned to Heaven, Balthazar made sure to steal some supplies from the Vault. He knew how cheap Virgil was. He also stole a spare key, just in case.
"Ready?" He acted brave, bragging to everyone that they would win. But that was a lie, Balthazar was terrified. He watched as Ezekiel and Anael said their last goodbyes. "We'll come Home victorious!"
Unfortunately, they landed in a trap. Ezekiel was immediately hit with a deadly arrow.
"Go." He felt the poison extinguishing his grace.
"The Rit Zein. They are not too far from here." Balthazar saw them, Raphael was watching over the medics.
"It's too late." He felt himself fading away. "Run."
"No, we'll fight." He can carry Ezekiel to Raphael. Raphael can cure him. "I stole some armor, no evil can see us." They were invisible to the enemy.
Ezekiel shook his head.
They were on the front lines of death. He knew that if both tried fighting, they would both die. Ezekiel was gravely injured and told Balthazar he would ensure his escape, if he showed himself. Balthazar protested, but Ezekiel was firm.
"Go. Take I'm taking off the armor." With his sacrifice, his best friend could escape.
"No. We'll both go."
"Fine." Ezekiel saw a path. It was dangerous, but it was the only way. "Get help." He waved goodbye.
"I'll be back."
As soon as he left he heard screams. Then a flash of light. Balthazar knew. "You dumbass."
Balthazar felt tremendous guilt on what happened. He had ran into Hannah and begged her to never tell Castiel, his other best friend that he was responsible for leaving Ezekiel behind.
"Where are you going?" Hannah lost so many friends. She couldn't lose Balthazar too.
"Revenge."
He then disappeared to keep fighting. Everyone believed Balthazar died in the war, but when Castiel ran into him Eons later, he found out Balthazar faked his death.
"I mourned your death!"
"I had no choice."
Castiel grabbed him by his human vessel's neck and demanded answers.
"And Ezekiel?" They were Castiel's two best friends.
"It was my fault. He died to protect me."
Balthazar tells Castiel that he felt too guilty.
"I was a coward. But I killed the bastards responsible for his death. Then I ran."
He never returned to Heaven. He felt too guilty. Plus he knew he couldn't face Anael. Telling her the news would have devastated her. He knew that she would blame him for abandoning Ezekiel.
"I couldn't face her."
He then disappeared once again.
When God Spoke, everyone stopped fighting.
"ENOUGH!"
Everyone. Angels, demons. They all bowed down on the ground.
"MY CHILDREN. NO MORE."
No one dared look up. No one saw God, but everyone was humbled hearing His Voice.
"GO HOME."
Everyone left, with the exceptions of the Archangels.
Gabriel filled the angels in on what happened.
Micheal and Lucifer faced each other, wielding their swords. Neither knew what to do. Michael, he had his duty. Lucifer, now he got his Father's attention, what now?
Both Raphael and Gabriel looked back and forth. Neither wanted to choose a side.
Lucifer stared at Michael. Then to everyone's surprise, he threw down his sword and kneeled before Michael. Hearing his Father's Voice shook him.
"If you must, kill me. I beg you."
Michael just stared at Lucifer. Because of him, the bodies of the dead were everywhere.
"This is all your fault."
"I know."
Michael felt nothing but resentment. He held the blade to Lucifer's neck.
"I should kill you." Heaven's Laws state that traitors were supposed to be punished with the Divine Wrath of Heaven.
"Just get it over with."
Just when Michael was about to destroy Lucifer, God told him to stop.
"Why Father? He betrayed You." Michael didn't want to admit that he was always jealous of his younger brother. "Earth would have fell." God's favorite creation.
God told Michael that killing Lucifer won't accomplish anything.
"Then what do you suggest."
God told Michael to throw Lucifer in Hell. Hell back then was just a place. It was nothing like it is today.
Michael pressed the blade harder against Lucifer's neck.
"Go to Hell Lucifer."
Before the Gates of Hell opened, Lucifer looked back at his brothers.
Gabriel had a look of remorse. He never chose a side, he loved all his brothers equally.
Raphael was stoned face, he never liked showing off his emotions. But he did bow his head.
He looked up at Michael who was angry.
But it was him looking at God that broke Lucifer's heart.
God was staring at him with love.
Lucifer said nothing more. He jumped willingly into Hell, leaving his sword behind on Earth.
After that God left for good.
Gabriel was saddened that his family was torn apart and fell into a deep depression. Micheal was stone cold silent. Raphael was disappointed. They waited for God to return, but after a few centuries, they realized He was gone forever.
All of Heaven heard their wails. Earth included. The angels felt the archangels pain, and cried silently with them. The humans felt like something was missing, and cried too, not understanding why.
Gabriel packed up and left. He hated what his brothers did and took off, never returning.
Micheal and Raphael decided to see if God left any messages. They knew that Metatron, His favorite scribe wrote down God's Word, but he was gone with the tablets. Michael was so angry at all the events that transpired, he threw his sword into Earth, not knowing or caring where it landed.
Gadreel after the War ended, was thrown in Heaven's prison. He wasn't even allowed to fight in the War. Eden was already gone, God took it away. No one knew where it went, only God knew. Humans over time forgot about it.
Gadreel was let out very rarely over the centuries for good behaviour. Michael wasn't totally heartless. But Heaven's jailer, Thaddeus kept protesting. As soon as Gadreel returned he was tortured over and over again. As far as Hannah knew, no one liked Thaddeus, except for a few angels. He was pissed when Gadreel was let out for good, and after that hid himself from everyone fearing Gadreel would come after him for revenge.
Hannah sighed and rubbed her human temples. Gabriel had told her the story years later when Gabriel returned to Heaven for a very rare visit. He was there to pick up a book. He didn't give a damn about his Horn. He just wanted a book. Hannah had ran into him and upon seeing him hugged him. Gabriel had hugged her back. He was glad to see how much Hannah had matured. No longer a teenage fledgling, she was a full grown angel. She had begged him to tell her a story. Gabriel had told her many stories, including what happened during the final moments of the War. She cried hearing the end. She never expected Lucifer to act that way before he went to Hell. Gabriel sounded sad while he told her. But he was glad that God never stopped loving Lucifer. He had told Hannah God forgave Lucifer for everything.
Jack's birth centuries later shocked everyone. Lucifer had escaped from Hell thanks to Sam and immediately wanted revenge. Being in Hell for a long time had jaded Lucifer. He was angry at everyone, especially at Michael and God. Lucifer was resentful that no one had come to try to talk to him. No one but Heaven had the knowledge to enter Hell and no angel wanted to go inside. Not even his brothers. Lucifer was really angry at God. He was still holding a grunge against Michael, but God never came back. He decided to break his Father's most sacred rule. But he needed a vessel. He wanted Sam Winchester, his true vessel, but he knew Sam would never say yes. So he decided to ask a depressed widower named Nick. Nick said yes, he felt like he had nothing to lose, his family was slaughtered by a intruder a few days before.
After he got a vessel he started causing trouble, but was way over his head. He had no choice to beg Michael for help.
Micheal was in Heaven looking over some star charts, wondering how to create new stars when Lucifer appeared. Michael was in disbelief. How the hell did Lucifer get out? But then Michael remembered. He had secretly ordered Lilith to open the gate of Hell where Lucifer was. Heaven was due for a meeting and everyone needed to be there.
"How are you?" Michael didn't trust Lucifer.
"It's been eons. You still hate me? Or did you miss me." Lucifer knew Michael opened the Gate.
"What do you want?"
He rolled his eyes when Lucifer came and begged Michael for help.
"You made them. How is it my problem." The Grigori were bad enough, Michael spent centuries looking for those abominations.
"The demons are out of control."
Michael listened to Lucifer's whining but he agreed to help. He had ordered the human souls, known as The Elders to find special humans to defeat the dark forces.
Time caused Michael to mellow out. He was a lot more calmer and felt no anger towards his brother. For the first time in centuries, Micheal pitied Lucifer. He knew how Hell worked. Time in Hell worked much differently.
Lucifer too was different. He was more quieter, less resentful of humans. For the first time in eons, Michael had sat down and listened to his younger brother.
Even when he met with Michael, the resentment was still there. He was still angry. So after the meeting, Lucifer had returned to Earth. So posing at Nick, he found himself down the street from a dive bar. He still hated humans but one stood out. The young woman was walking down the street and hadn't changed from her professional suit attire. He admired her from afar. She was one of those rare humans that had that glow about her. He was fascinated. The young woman had this heartbroken look of defeat on her face.
Kelly Kline needed a stiff drink. Something strong, something to make her forget. At least for tonight.
He followed her in the bar to find out more about her. So he went to the place she walked into. He saw her sitting on the bar stool ordering a stiff drink. He smiled at her and sat down next to her.
"I'll have what she's having." Nick smiled at the young woman. "I'm Nick. Can I buy you that drink?"
"Leave me alone." She gulps down her whisky neat.
"Come here often?" She ignores him, sipping her drink.
Nick gestures to the bartender.
"I'll have another one. Plus two of your finest red wines."
Once the drinks came, he started talking.
"You were dumped right? Me too."
"Fuck off."
"My wife." Nick sighs. "I had a son. He was only a few weeks old."
"Hmm."
Nick tried to hold his emotions, but found himself tearing up.
"There was so much blood." He started sobbing.
"You don't have to talk about it." Those tears, no way would anyone fake it just to get laid.
"I was gone only for a few hours. Instead of being home, I was out hanging out with the guys." Nick started crying. "My wife. My baby." He started sobbing.
Kelly remembered watching the news, a man in Delaware came home to find his wife and newborn baby dead in their home. The crime was so brutal, it was talked about for days at her work.
"I'm so sorry." She started rubbing his back. "It wasn't your fault."
"I wasn't there. She was overwhelmed with the new baby, and I got drunk instead." He finishes the two wines.
Kelly was drinking to forget about Jefferson. But compared to Nick's issues, Her problems were nothing.
"Shh. Shh." She put Nick's head on her shoulder. "It will be okay."
Lucifer hid his smile. Humans were easy to manipulate.
Nick allowed himself to cry for a few more minutes. After he was done, he pulled away.
"Sorry." He thanked the bartender for the box of tissues. "Please. Talk about something else. I...I need a distraction." He wiped away his tears.
Kelly sighed.
"I was working with a man. We, we had a affair."
Kelly considered herself lucky. If not foolish. Jefferson Rooney was running for President of the United States.
"He was a powerful man. I guess I was flattered he was so nice to me."
It didn't take long for them to have a torrid affair. Unlike other mistresses, her and Jefferson fell deeply in love.
"We wanted to take it public. We really did." Kelly sighed. "But because of his position in power, he couldn't." Then his children found out.
"I was called every name under the sun. Gold Digger. Tramp, homewrecker. His daughter, she was the same age as me." She sighed. "In the end, we ended it." She sighed and held her now empty glass. "It is a crime to fall in love? It wasn't like we had a affair. He was single. His wife was dead for over a decade. We wanted to get married, have kids. The pocket white fence."
"I had all that, then it was taken away. Fate. She's a bitch."
"I hear that." She gestured for a water.
"We been talking for awhile, and I don't even know your name."
"Kelly."
"Kelly. You want to get outta here?" The bar was starting to fill up with rowdy customers.
"Sure."
They ended up in a nearby motel.
When Kelly woke up Nick was gone. After a few days she felt different not just her; the night Jack was conceived all of Heaven felt the Nephilim come into existence. But no one knew who was the mother or father was.
Kelly was ecstatic. When she saw the positive pregnancy results a few weeks later she was over the moon. She didn't know where Nick was. She was positive he was the father. She returned to the bar hoping to run into him. She wanted to tell him the good news.
Nick was having a drink when Kelly tapped him on the shoulder.
"Kelly." Nick hugs her. "You don't deserve to be here. Starbucks is down the street."
"You remember my name." Kelly was flattered.
"Of course I remember. What kind of man would I be." He asked the bartender to give her a drink.
"Just soda for me thanks."
"Good girl. Don't end up a loser like me." He ordered another drink.
Kelly hoped he'll took the news well.
"Remember the night we met?"
"Of course."
"I'm pregnant."
Nick froze. The glass sitting on his lips.
Kelly was nervous. She gone to that bar hoping to see Nick since he never gave her his last name.
"Pregnant?" He looked shocked.
"You're the only man I been with, other than..." When Nick started smiling, Kelly hoped it was good news.
"You're pregnant? I'm going to be a dad?" He couldn't help it. He grabs Kelly and hugs her. "You sure?"
"Took three pregnancy tests. And just came back from the doctor." She was relieved Nick was so happy.
He jumped up and was thrilled. He told her if this is how his Father felt when He created life, then he said the feeling of creating something was amazing.
"Hey everyone! I'm gonna be a dad! Drinks are on me!"
He was so happy he bought drinks for the whole bar. The three people there was happy for both of them. Nick was thrilled, but Kelly felt uneasy. Especially when she mentioned Teddy.
"Who?"
"Your late baby." Teddy was barely a month old when Nick found him dead along with his wife.
"Teddy. Right." He pointed up. "Babies are guaranteed a ticket upstairs. Evangeline, she takes care of all the babies and young children. Teenagers included." He polishes off his drink. "How long?"
"Six weeks."
There was something about Nick that frightened her and hoped she wasn't making a huge mistake.
"I have to get going. I have to get ready to go to work." Kelly had a temp job, bills needed to be paid.
"I won't keep you." Before Kelly left, Nick told her he'll arrange for child support.
"Thanks." Kelly had to go home. Especially now. She swore his eyes glowed red. She blamed the bar's low lighting and neon signs.
She gone home afterwards and when she opened the door she saw a man with a trench coat there.
Kelly was dead tired. She was exhausted from her new job, even though all she did was answer phones all day. She threw down her keys and sorted through her mail.
"Bills, a credit card statement. Letter from mom, oh. Why didn't you send a check?" She was pleasantly surprised to see a envelope filled with cash. "Thanks Nick." She jumped hearing a voice.
"Hello Kelly."
"Who. Who are you. How did you get inside." She quickly takes out her pepper spray and aims it at Castiel. "How did you get in? You have five seconds." When Castiel came closer, she aimed at his eyes. "Oh. God. Please, please don't hurt me." She begged when he didn't falter.
When his eyes glowed she fainted from fright.
When Kelly woke up she was laying on the couch with Castiel watching her.
"Mom?" When her eyes cleared, she saw that same man. Immediately, she sits up. "Get away from me." She wanted to throw her lamp at him, but it was too far. "Who are you?"
"Castiel. I'm an angel of the Lord."
"Prove it." Kelly figured out she'll die, she just wished her baby could live instead. When he showed her his wings, Kelly crossed her heart. "My god." She swallowed. "What does an angel want with me?"
"Your child." Castiel wasn't sure how to explain this. He wished Dean was here, he'll know what to say. "That man you were with, he isn't who he says he was."
"Nick?" It was only one night, she doubted that was his real name. It was only a drunken tryst. "What about him?"
"That man, he's an angel. But not just any angel." Castiel took a deep breath. "His real name, it's Lucifer."
When she heard the news, she got up, went to her freezer and downed half a bottle of vodka.
Castiel saw her expression, it was a mixture of disbelief and horror.
What spawn of Satan was she carrying? She seen The Omen, Rosemary's Baby, and Little Nicky. She then proceeded to finish the bottle.
"I'm not drunk." Why wasn't she drunk?
She and Castiel ended up talking for hours. Castiel told her she had to get rid of the abomination that was growing inside of her or the whole Universe would be destroyed. Kelly was devastated. All she wanted was a family. Jefferson was a wonderful person, but he was loyal to his children. They couldn't be together. Even if they didn't care what everyone thought, his position as a Senator would jeopardize his chances to run for president.
She was drunk when she met Nick and sympathized with Nick's sad tale of how his wife and child were murdered in their sleep. Nick was handsome and charming, plus a great lover. But even with Nick's charming personality, there was a darkness there. She swore that his eyes glowed red when he and Kelly were done after their night of passion. She blamed the alcohol.
Then Nick to her horror was Satan himself. And was pregnant with his baby. She was ashamed.
She already called her parents and told them the news. They were happy to hear the news and were looking forward to becoming grandparents. Now she faced a dilemma. Abort this baby she already loved, or carry Rosemary's Baby to term.
Kelly stared blankly at the bible, it had burn marks where her hand was.
"What do I do now?"
Castiel drove Kelly to the abortion clinic a few days later. But before they got there, Kelly had told him she wanted to get something to eat. Her appointment wasn't ready for another hour and she was hungry. Castiel protested but he agreed.
"Order me the special, with a chocolate milkshake." Kelly knew that will take time. "I need to pee, can you wait for my food?"
While he was sitting down, Kelly quickly sneaks out the kitchen door. Thankfully, Castiel's back was away from her. She then walked to a taxi stand.
"I don't care what you are, I love you with all my heart." She held her abdomen. "I'll make sure you are raised right.'' Once the taxi came, she told the cab to head to the airport.
"Thank you." When Kelly's food came. He looked at the clock, twenty minutes passed. He waited another five minutes, and when she didn't come back, he got up to knock on the door. "Kelly? Kelly? Your food is here." When he heard nothing but silence, he went inside.
Kelly was gone.
Once Castiel paid for the food with a generous tip, he told the waitress to give it to the homeless man standing outside. He quickly closes his eyes to sense Kelly's soul.
Nothing.
He tried harder. When he couldn't sense Kelly, he realized that the nephilim was hiding her from every angel in existence. Already he knew that child was aware. And it wasn't born yet.
He had no choice but to call Dean and his brother Sam for help.
Dean Winchester, Castiel was sent to him as his new assignment. Hannah heard how they met for the first time.
Dean was waiting with fellow hunter Bobby Singer.
"You sure you put up enough sigils?" Dean was sitting with a knife, a special knife he got from a demon.
"Every religion and pagan faith I know. Christian, Hindu, wiccan, you name it, it's up there." Neither knew what they were dealing with. "What exactly are we hunting?"
"I have no idea." Dean was curious himself. "That noise, it sounded like it was screaming in my head." He had a bandage on his arm from the shattered mirror from the motel room. Thankfully he didn't have to pay for the security deposit, the manager believed it was from old glue from the ceiling mirror. He even gave Dean a extra free night stay.
"A creature that screams in your head and shatters glass. Could be a banshee."
"That's what I thought too. But it's weird. I swore I heard my name."
"You're a hunter. You are not exactly Mr Anonymous." The Winchesters were well known in monster circles.
"It's not just that. I swore I know the voice." Dean didn't know why, it sounded familiar. "Whatever it is, its dead." He looked up when he and Bobby saw the walls shake. Both looked at each other and picked up the guns.
The doors ripped open with a man in a trench coat walked in. Immediately, both started shooting rock salt.
BANG! BANG!
The man walking in calmly comes closer, the rock salt not affecting him.
Sparkles and exploding lightbulbs shatter as the man walks underneath them. The barn shaking as he strolls casually in.
Dean and Bobby exchange looks. Even a demon would falter.
Once the man came close, Dean quickly picks up the knife.
"Who are you?"
"It's been a long time."
"I never met you before in my life." Dean then stabs him with the demon killing blade. When the man didn't fall, Deans stands back in uneasy shock. Especially when he causally pulls the knife out of his heart.
Bobby had a tire iron, he went to knock him out. Before he could, the man puts him to sleep with a single touch.
"Who are you." What was he? Some kind of witch?
"Castiel."
"I'm not asking your name. I'm asking what you are." That name. Dean swore he heard it before.
Castiel looks up from the book he was casually flipping through.
"I'm an angel of the Lord." He walks up to Dean. "And we have work for you."
Dean asked Castiel what did he want?
"Lucifer is about to be freed."
"Lucifer is a story." Angels were real. Dean couldn't believe it. But he didn't question it.
"Your brother. You must stop him."
It was a moot point. Even if Sam didn't do what he did, Lucifer would have been freed anyway. Michael opened the doors.
After Castiel found out Lucifer had sired a Nephilim, he called Dean for help.
"Lucifer? I didn't know he was dating." Dean was in disbelief.
Castiel's friendship with the Winchesters was slowly changing him. No longer a obedient perfect soldier, he was becoming more like them. More empathetic, questioning his existence, even showing human emotion. Hannah when she met with Castiel again was disgusted. She reminded him he was still a soldier of Heaven and he had to make a choice. Heaven or humans. Castiel was torn. But he remembered he came to Earth for help to find the Nephilim. He agreed to return with Hannah to Heaven. He told Sam and Dean he needed to go Home.
It was a few short months when Castiel heard Kelly's calls for help. There was a demon there who heard a human named Kelly Kline that was carrying a Nephilim child.
He followed her home after she was walking home from a fast food place. He hoped to kidnap Kelly to gain favour to The Source. The evil Entity that controlled the underworld. Which happened to be Asmodeus.
Castiel flown in as well as Hannah who was keeping an eye on Castiel; who she believed was getting too soft. When she arrived she witnessed both of them holding hands, with both of their eyes glowing gold.
When she saw the pregnant human holding hands with Castiel, she was surprised to feel jealousy. She shook it off. That was a human emotion. Then after seeing Castiel smiting the demon with the child's powers, she realized what was going on.
"Castiel. What is going on?" Those powers. They weren't angelic or demonic. They weren't human. It wasn't even godlike. The child's powers had scared Hannah. Those powers were stronger than The Archangels.
"Hannah." Castiel, the moment he felt the baby's essence, he knew this child must live.
"No. It can't be." Then she realized it was Lucifer who was the father.
Michael was furious when Hannah had informed him about the news afterwards. But she omitted the news about Lucifer, fearing Michael's reaction. He ordered Castiel and Hannah to find the woman and destroy her. Hannah hesitated knowing her friend Castiel was with Kelly but she reluctantly agreed. Castiel also got those orders. Michael and Lucifer were talking more but Michael was suspicious of Lucifer's behaviour. Lucifer was a lot more cheerful these days. He even invited Michael to Earth for drinks. Michael declined. He was loyal to his Father, who he believed to return someday. Maybe by killing the Nephilim God will come back. However, he had every angel counted for except Lucifer. He wondered if Lucifer did something he wasn't supposed to.
Hannah who was loyal to Heaven, had her orders. She pulled out her angel blade and was ready to kill both Kelly and Castiel. The unborn's child's powers was never seen before. Even during the War. She didn't hesitate. But at the last minute, Castiel had fought with her blade, and after a few close calls Castiel had managed to wrestle the blade away from her then after getting a hold of it, held it to Hannah's heart. Hannah was scared.
"Listen. This child. It is special."
"It's a abomination." A nephilim was bad enough. But a arch-nephilim? "You know the rules of Heaven. A child with angelic grace born with a human soul. It will destroy us." The rules were ingrained in their heads since they were 'born.'
"I felt the child's soul. Hannah. It's not evil. It's pure." The joy he felt, nothing made him feel like that. "What I saw. I saw Paradise."
"Paradise is a myth." Supposedly it would come after Armageddon, but Gabriel always said it was a nothing more than a fairy tale. "God left. He abandoned us."
"It has nothing to do with God."
"That's blasphemy." One of Heaven's Commandments. Don't speak ill of God's Name. Michael was strict with that rule.
"Is it?"
It took him hours to convince Hannah. But she listened. Not because of Castiel's words, but his eyes. She felt something unfamiliar. Human emotions. She felt a tug inside her heart when she was with Castiel. He must have felt the same thing, his face turned pink the same time hers did. In the end she agreed to spare their lives, but she had her duties. She had to return to Heaven and tell Michael there was a change of plans. Castiel had warned her she will be destroyed for disobedience, but Hannah had told him it was better her than both of them.
Michael was furious about Hannah's disobedience. He punished her so severely, it made Gadreel's punishment look like a light spanking. He had ordered Abner, the new prison guard to put Hannah in Heaven's prison for the time being.
She shuddered remembering what Michael did to her. She forced herself to black it out. She wasn't in jail for long, she was freed after a short time.
After her release, she returned to Earth and prayed to Castiel. She knew he was watching over Kelly Kline. She warned him, Michael knew who fathered that baby. She was scared for Castiel.
To her irritation she felt pangs of jealousy when she witnessed how close Kelly and Castiel were. When she flew in, she saw both of them sitting on the couch with knees touching and laughing at a silly television show. Apparently she was laughing at Castiel's joke about breeding with a mouth of a goat. In English, it made no sense. But in Enochian, it was funny as hell.
"Hannah!" He was smiling. "Come join us. There's a show about the Bible." He was chuckling. "This is a history channel, but everything they say is wrong."
"Will you excuse us?"
She pulled Castiel aside and warned him about Michael.
"Michael. He knows." She saw his expression."I'm sorry." She tried so hard. He placed her on Naomi's table.
"My son."
Castiel was scared. He told Hannah that was his son. Maybe he wasn't the not the biological father, but he was the father in every other way. He said he'll accept Michael's punishment as long as Jack, the baby Kelly chose the name for, would be safe.
Hannah was sad and scared for him. But even while she was sitting in jail, she had faith that the child would be safe. She had a feeling that the Nephilim would be allowed to live. She didn't know why.
It didn't take Kelly long to feel pangs of false labour pains. She and Castiel had her place ready for her child. Hannah had warned her that as a human, she is most likely not to survive the birth. Very few women survived the birth of a Nephilim. As a woman who was carrying a Arch Nephilim child, her chances were zero. Kelly was devastated. She and Castiel had discussed the possibility, but she wanted Castiel to raise her son just in case Kelly died giving birth. Her labour pains were getting closer and closer and when her water broke they heard Michael's voice ordering them home.
"Kelly." His vessel had two tears streaming down his face.
"Don't blame yourself." She held her belly. She gasped when she felt the kick.
"I would stay if I could."
"I know." She refused to cry, even though she knew she'll die. "Paradise. Remember?" She blew him a kiss. Not romantically, but friendly. "I'll be okay." She lied. She would make sure her baby was born. He'll grow up, go to college, and change the world. "Goodbye Cas."
He knew if he left Kelly, her child would be killed. So he prayed to God. He asked God to protect Jack from Michael. Then remembering what Hannah said before she returned to Heaven.
"Have faith. I have a good feeling Jack will be okay."
"What makes you so sure." Castiel was devastated.
"You always trusted me. When have you ever doubted me."
Soon Kelly found herself in the room alone giving birth.
Castiel found himself back in Heaven. He was sobbing on Hannah's shoulder, her wings were wrapped around his.
"Have faith old friend." She knew. Jack will be okay.
Castiel couldn't stop crying. He was scared that his son would die. But Hannah told Castiel to trust her. They couldn't escape from Heaven, Michael had closed all the Gates. He had sealed every Gate behind him, he didn't want any angel interfering with his mission.
Since there was nothing they can do they walked down the halls looking for either Gabriel or Raphael to talk Michael to convince him to let Jack live.
They ran into Elijah who told them Lucifer was in jail with Raphael and Uriel watching over him. He laughed at the idea of both of them getting headaches listening to Lucifer's complaints.
"Yeah, Lucifer is crying out that Michael is a murderer. That his son is going to die." He started laughing. "How ludicrous. I always thought Lucifer was a dick, but this is stupid, even for him."
"Where's Gabriel?" Raphael won't help, he does what Michael asks no question.
"Earth. I think. He escaped just as Michael closed the doors."
No angels could leave Heaven with the Gates closed. But Hannah stayed by Castiel's side. He was distraught. He had prayed to God, Gabriel, and even Jack. There was no news for days. Then Castiel dropped to his knees. He was happy.
"Gabriel." He and Hannah rush over.
"It's a boy. Six pounds, three ounces. You can relax Castiel. Michael ordered him to be under Heaven's protection."
He was relieved when Gabriel told him that Jack was allowed to live. Apparently at the moment he had puked on Michael when he tried to burp him after his feeding.
"For a angelic baby, he likes to eat. And to puke. Even with a vessel, Michael wasn't happy his wings got dirty."
Hannah was surprised when Castiel started kissing her. He was so relieved and proud to be a father he kissed Hannah in joy. That was the moment they couldn't deny their feelings any longer. Hannah always cared about Castiel, they knew each other as small fledglings. But now the friendship turned into love.
Hannah smiled at the memory. She saw Jack from a distance when he was young but she knew the Archangel's orders. No angel was allowed near Jack. Except Castiel. Michael was very overprotective. She met Jack again a few years later at her wedding. He was just a small child. She remembered how cute he was. Now he was a handsome young man. But she feared for his future. There was no future. God was done. Right now the Winchesters were searching for Metatron. She hoped they found him. He may be the only one to with the knowledge to save the world.
She heard a sound of wings behind her, she knew Castiel was home. She smiled at her husband. Castiel told her he got a prayer from Dean and wanted to help. Hannah told him to go help his friends, but to be careful. She had a dreadful feeling about things. Not about God, but something else. She hoped she wasn't wrong.
