"This is the last one." God Jenna hoped they weren't too late. Her and Devon were lost after they left town, and both had no choice but to do research since they had no clue how to track down Jesse. "Glad you were smart enough to have gift cards."
"Even those are risky. Travelers checks or better yet, cold cash. Untraceable, impossible to track down." That was something Devon was truly paranoid about. Murphy told Devon that his former bosses had certain people on watch, like the Halliwell Sisters as well as other 'special people'. Murphy warned Devon to be as invisible as possible, the governments will have no qualms to execute those that threatened to expose what shouldn't be exposed, and make it look like a accident. Devon rarely carried his own cell, always replacing his phones every few weeks. Pretty expensive, thankfully Murphy covered it. "Gotta ditch this car soon, can't have anyone tracking me down." It was rented under a fake name, but Devon tried to use his own car. Nothing that stood out like the Impala, but a boring car that everyone had.
"Why couldn't we use yours?"
"If this Jesse is who you say he is, then the better the anonymity. Besides, I already paid it off." He parked it in a abandoned garage, hopefully it was safe. "How's Dean?"
"Busy. He and Cas just managed to save that stewardess from that flight mom and dad were on." That case haunted them, how close they were losing their parents. As for that demon responsible, it was dead. How Dean managed to kill it, he wouldn't say. Said it was too complicated to explain. "They are trying to track down a couple of kids they saved from a Shtriga, they want to make sure they are still safe."
"Sounds like he'll be busy. And the sisters?" They were driving down the highway, so far they had make some calls, to see if any property was getting used or torn down, so they didn't have to travel that much. Especially since Jenna kept needing to pee and rest. She complained that her baby was already making her work hard.
"They already lost a few innocents. A woman they saved is dead. The funeral was yesterday."
"That sucks. Demons?"
"Natural causes. She died of old age. She was a year younger than Phoebe."
"Damn! My condolences. Anyone else?"
"They never said." She refused to say Piper's name. She talked to Dean, he said there was no change. Sam didn't want to leave her side, but he knew he wasn't going to help her by sitting around. Since Victor had no choice but to go back to work, (his daughters were in his health insurance) Sam, Phoebe and Paige put up protective warding to protect her from demons and anything evil like curses. They even put up a anti reaper spell to keep her soul from moving on. Sam went to the Observatory to try to find a spell to track down Rowena, as far as he knew he was his only hope. "Krissy left a note, she her boyfriend, and her best friend went hunting for a ghouls nest in Arkansas a few weeks ago. They hadn't been seen since."
"What about that magic Rock you told me about?"
"That's probably why they're running." Jenna sighed. "I just hope she is okay, especially Sam. He looked so defeated last time I saw him." They drove in silence for the next few minutes. "There!" She saw a road. "The location said it's around here somewhere. Keep your eyes peeled."
After twenty minutes they pull up to a abandoned cabin. It was full of weeds and had overgrown grass everywhere, but Jenna saw mud tracks going in and out of the porch.
"This has to be the place."
"You sure?"
"We tried everywhere else. Devon, maybe you should stay here."
"Like hell I will. What if Jesse turned bad? He is a demon after all."
"Half demon. Cole, Phoebe said he was good at one point. Sam and Dean said Jesse was a good kid. He hated demons."
"Yeah, and I remember saying he turned your angel friend into a doll."
"Because Cas was about to stab him. Angels. Kill first, ask questions never. Let's get out of the car."
Both were apprehensive to approach the cabin, neither knew what to expect.
"It's too quiet." Jenna realized it was true. This was the woods. "Where are the birds? The wind? Jesse, he has to be inside. Jen, be careful."
Jenna swallowed in fear. They had anti demon symbols, plus were carrying gris bags, (Devon said he bought them from a voodoo priestess to protect them from evil) and were wearing crosses, but knew they were worthless against someone like Jesse.
"You didn't carry any weapons, did you?"
"No."
"Better. Dean mentioned Jesse was jumpy. Powerful kid, but he is grown up now. God knows what his power is like...watch out!" She and Devon dive just as a fireball flew past their heads. "Guess this is the right place."
"Who are you? You have ten seconds!" A deep male voice says from the dark cabin.
"Friends! You called for help!" Jenna called out.
"Prove it!" Both Jenna and Devon froze seeing a silhouette of a man, he had a fireball hovering over his right hand.
"I'm married to Dean Winchester! Sam is my brother in law! Your friend, Tyler Michaels came to America to seek help from the Halliwells! Name's Jenna! This is my brother, Devon!"
"Prove it!"
Crap. Jenna had no phone, her and Dean's pictures were in them. Devon didn't carry around his, he didn't want to be tracked down.
"A few years ago, you met Sam and Dean! They came here to solve some weird cases! They were hunting a demon trying to kidnap you! They mentioned wanting you to live like a X-Men character! They said their mentor, Bobby Singer was their boss who was in a wheelchair!" When they saw the silhouette walk out, both saw a young man with dark hair staring suspiciously at them. Both stiffened when he walked up to them.
"Hmm. Hey I know you." He was looking at Devon.
"Me?"
"Him?" Jenna didn't expect that. She was usually the one stopped on the streets by her fans.
"Yeah. You saved Tyler's ex." Thankfully he puts out his fireball and helps them up. "Sorry about that. I been in hiding the last few years."
Devon shrugged at Jenna's questioning look.
"It was in San Francisco. I been keeping an eye on Tyler. After he disappeared, I been looking for clues to find him, so I went to see if Tyler went to the Halliwell Manor. He wasn't there, but you were. You were on a case with that witch."
"It was Billie that sensed that innocent. She and I went to the San Francisco Harbor to save a witch from getting attacked by demons."
"Kareem Scales. He and Tyler were dating during freshman year at college. All three of us were classmates. When Tyler and I fell in love, Kareem moved back to the States."
"I was just lucky. Kareem and Billie did most of the work. I was just there for a distraction."
"Bull. I was watching you. You may been a hunter for a short time, but you are good. You put others first." He looked at Jenna. "Hello." He looked at Jenna's abdomen. "Your baby will be an handful."
"How do you know that?" How powerful was this kid? Jesse must have read her mind. He chuckled. "Tyler is a fan of yours. I follow you in social media and sent a Tweet congratulating you for your pregnancy. I know Dean, somewhat. You are in for a wild ride. Come inside. I made coffee."
When they got in, both were surprised to see how clean it was inside. The smell of fresh coffee made their mouths water.
"My mom was strict on me when I was young. Tyler hated it when I nagged him to keep the apartment tidy. Anyways, I'm glad someone answered my calls. But first, I have to do some tests."
Both Jenna and Devon were rubbing their arms, that silver made their skin itch. After Jesse bandaged them up, both were drinking their cups of caffeine.
"Can't be to careful. I have anti demon, angel, monster and magick warding all over."
"I thought you were half demon." Devon remarked.
"Half human." Jesse corrected.
"Sorry."
"No worries. I'm immune to most magic, Heaven and Hell can't track me down. Even with my powers." He sipped his coffee. "You hungry? I can cook up some stew. It's canned, but it's delicious."
"No thanks."
"I'll have some." She looked at Devon. "Baby's gotta eat."
"So Jesse. How long have you been hiding? Here in Nebraska." Devon wasn't hungry, but he washed the dishes as a hospitality.
"Awhile. The Call. It screams everyday in my head. My boyfriend Tyler came here to help me." He sighed. "I told him to leave it alone, but he wouldn't listen. He came here to seek answers. I hadn't heard from him since." Jesse looked depressed. "You know about The War. I been having those nightmares too."
"Yeah, it sucks. Jesse, about this Call."
"All demons answer it. Even half breeds." Jesse took a deep breath. "You heard of that Manticore kid?" Jenna nodded. Piper told her about him. How his human father become a monster to protect him. "He's dead."
"But he wasn't a demon." Poor kid. Jenna was always hesitant to kill monsters, hunting wasn't black or white. The ones she knew like Garth and his family were kind and hard working. Their kids, Gertie, Sam and Castiel were purebred werewolves, but acted like regular kids.
"But his biological mom did live in the Underworld. The Underworld's citizens are not immune. His heart gave out last month. That poor man was heartbroken on losing his only child. He died in a car crash last week. Guess the pain got to him." Jesse read the news, he always was curious about other half breeds like him.
"Was this in California by any chance?" Jenna saw two names in Phoebe's ledger.
"He tried. He really tried. But even without everything going on, his son stood no chance. His true nature is a killer. Not trying to sound racist, I'm no angel, but those beasts grow up to killers. Man, animal, even their own. That child needed to be with his own kind. Those creatures live underground for a reason. He should have stayed a monster, at least till he figured out how to cure his son's demonic side."
"Wait! There's a cure? How?" Devon couldn't believe it.
"I just found out myself. I was about to kill myself when I heard Tyler's voice."
Jesse was holding on to a bottle of Tequila. He rarely drank, he hated alcohol. But it was the only way to black out from the voices. He knew Tyler was dead, their bond was gone, Jesse didn't feel his heart anymore.
"Tyler." He whispered. He had an angel blade, he bought it from that British woman in Australia. According to what he found out, it killed demons as well. He sighed as he took another sip. "I hope to see you on the other side." He hoped he didn't go to Hell, suicide was a sin. But he hoped God understood why he had to die. He hated the call of evil. Just when he was about to kill himself, he heard his name.
"Jesse."
"At first Jesse ignored it, he was half drunk.
"Jesse."
"I'm drunk. Now that Call is saying m' name." He slurred. Usually it was voiceless, it was more like a hum. But it drove him crazy. When he heard his name, in Tyler's voice, he threw down his bottle smashing it. "FUCK YOU!" He looked down at the mess. "You kidding me! That was my last bottle!" The mess alone. Jesse was drunk and suicidal, but he'll be damned to leave a mess behind. He went to look for a broom when he saw Tyler's ghost.
"Jesse."
"Tyler? No. No. No. Baby, I'm sorry!" Jesse went to hug him but Tyler was a ghost. "I failed you." Jesse fell to his knees sobbing.
"Jesse. It's not your fault. You didn't do anything wrong.'' Tyler's ghost was trying and failing to hug him. "I was the selfish one. I took off without telling you.''
"Is that really you?" Jesse knew about his true nature. What he really was. An Archai. A being that was hunted by Heaven and Hell. Able to cut through reality, those rare witches were feared to assassinate both angels and demons with ease without anyone knowing. "Please tell me you are using your powers." When Tyler shook his head, Jesse cried.
"I tried. I really tried. The First Witch, she was about to kill a young kid. I sacrificed myself to save him." He saw Jesse crying. "It was my time. Jesse. It wasn't your fault."
"Why. You and I were looking at rings." Jesse and Tyler were discussing getting married. Jesse joked he wanted Tyler to get on his knee and propose during dinner on their anniversary. "We were planning on going to Scotland to teach at that school." That school didn't discriminate. They accepted monster children and hybrids. A vampire was one of their directors. Jesse wanted to go to law school first to help others. His dad was one, he worked at Legal Aid.
"I know. I'm sorry for breaking my promise." He asked Jesse to look in his eyes. "I don't regret anything. Meeting you was the best thing that happened to me." Even as a ghost he teared up hearing Jesse's sobs. "I wanted nothing more than to keep you safe."
"You're dead. It's too late. The Call, it's getting louder." Jesse couldn't take it anymore. He flew back to Australia to buy that weapon after seeing it on the Dark Web. No one answered his calls for help. "I was about to commit suicide. But with you here, I don't have to be alone." What Tyler did next, angered Jesse. "The hell?!" His angel blade melted in his hand. "Why did you do that!" He was angry when Tyler start laughing.
"You are better than that Jesse. You know you don't want to die. Not really."
"But I do. You are not a half demon. You don't hear the noise." Even now that noise was giving Jesse a migraine. "It screams at me everyday."
"That's why I came to see you. You don't have to suffer, not anymore."
"What?"
"A few days ago, I went to see a psychic. Yeah, don't laugh. Actually a few psychics. Most were fake, till I went to New Orleans. I met with a voodoo priestess.''
"What? Did that bitch kill you? I'll get her back." Jesse wasn't a witch, but even the First Witch didn't stand a chance against a demon hybrid. His eyes black, he got up. But when Tyler's ghostly hand touched Jesse's, he felt his heart. "Tyler." He couldn't help but hug his form. Tyler couldn't touch him physically, but his heart felt Jesse's love.
"There are hunters on their way here. They know my friends, one of them is married to Dean Winchester."
Dean. Jesse spent days praying to him and his brother. He prayed hard to Phoebe Halliwell as well, she and her sisters vanquished the Source and Cole Turner with ease.
"So? You're dead. My life has no meaning anymore." Tyler's love kept him sane. Now that he was dead, Jesse has nothing to live for anymore.
"I kept my promise. Remember? I promised to protect you." He smiled sadly at Jesse. "That priestess, she knew what I was. When I told her about what you been experiencing, she didn't hesitate to give me her grandmother's number. There's a cure or at least something that can suppress your demon side. You can be fully human."
Jesse was wiping his eyes with some napkins.
"He left after that. I know he went to Heaven." He saw Jenna crying with Devon giving him a sympathetic look. "The Archai witches are now extinct, everyone can rest easy now." Tyler was his first and only love. "I'm going to keep my promise to Tyler. He would want me to go on." He forced himself to calm down.
"This cure. Are you sure it will work? Devon and Jenna never heard of it. No hunter or witch did.
"Tyler swears it. He was always a bad liar." Jesse was smiling sadly. "He gave me a name." He hands them a paper. "There are a list of ingredients, as well as things needed. But only a voodoo priest or priestess can perform the ceremony." He pours out the last cup of coffee. "I won't be able to get them, every demon and angel will be after me. That's why I'm in hiding." He takes a sip. "That Jack Kline, he's the real Anti-Christ, yet Heaven protects him." He chuckles bitterly. "It's getting late. I would ask you to stay, but as you can see, I don't have any room." Cabin was clean, but very small. There was hardly any furniture, Jesse was using logs as chairs, and he had a small sleeping bag rolled up. "Do me a favor, tell no one you met with me. The less everyone knows, the better."
"Promise."
"Cross my heart."
"Have a safe drive back, and don't come back. I won't be here tomorrow, gotta keep moving." Jesse waves them out. "Have a good night."
After they got in Devon's "borrowed" car, Devon asked what's next.
"I don't know. Jesse isn't the only name I seen. There is one, a G.W."
"How long a drive?"
Twin Lakes, Wisconsin
"Hope this 'G.W' still lives in town." Devon grumbled. Devon hated traveling, especially off the clock.
"I already said I'll pay you!" Jenna forgot how cheap her brother was. "I'm taking care of the travel expenses, don't worry about anything!" Jenna called Dean and told him she loaned Devon a few bucks to pay for his bills. When Dean asked, she said Devon preferred not to say. Dean being Dean told Devon to buy condoms in bulk, he traveled a lot to meet girls when he was younger. "After this you can leave, I have to go home soon, Dean is driving back in a few days, and I have to be there before he does." She paid a shapeshifter to pretend to be her, unlike most shapeshifters, she was friendly, and was happy to do it. All she had to do is livestream and play games.
"Okay. But promise me this is it. No more hunting."
"Sure." She was getting tired anyways. She was only a few weeks and was already worn out. Her baby is going to be a handful, she swore she felt a little teeny kick every time she thought about Dean. "I don't know much about this G.W, so I thought we'll check in around town."
"The sooner we're done, we can go home."
"I know." Brothers.
It took them a few hours to find anything unusual.
"Really. OK. Thanks. Take care." Jenna hangs up the phone. "Got a lead."
"Shoot."
"It was almost a decade ago, a hunter was murdered a few towns over, a Steve Wandell."
"Never heard of him."
"Me neither. But, he was the Bobby Singer of this neck of the woods. He was brutally murdered in cold blood. No one knows who did it, hunters been looking for his killers for years till they gave up."
"So what about this G.W person?"
"I been asking around, he had a daughter. She was eighteen when she left home to go to college. Her name is Gina."
"G.W. Gina Wandell? She a hunter?"
"That's what we're gonna find out."
Both Jenna and Devon pull up to a house the next day. Seeing a large dog, as well as a gate, they knew that they needed a plan.
"So how are we gonna do this?" Devon was dressed as a federal agent, he insisted on calling his boss, he said he can cover their tracks if anything goes wrong.
"Just tell her that we're reopening the case." Phoebe never elaborated on any of the names, she most likely promised Dean she won't tell his wife anything. "Just be cool." She was wearing her disguise, smart glasses with makeup, as well as a wig. Hopefully it was enough. She and Devon walk up to the gate and press the buzzer.
"Yes?" A woman's voice came over the box.
"FBI, I'm Agent Morissette, and this is my partner Agent Fischbach. We are here to talk about a Steven Wandell."
The voice was silent for a full minute till she pressed the button.
"I.D." Once they showed her their fake IDs on the camera, she told them to wait at the gate.
Jenna and Devon didn't say a word till they saw a dark haired woman walking out of the house. Walking towards the gate, she asked them if they were armed.
"No."
Devon shook his head.
"Just have to check you, can't be too careful." When she splashed them with water from the mug she was carrying, both sputtered with surprise. "Your hands." Both yelped when she cut them with silver from the knife she had in her sheath she had on her right hip. "I thought so. I know hunters when I see one. Come in."
"How did..."
"Those are good, but you can't fool a con. Mrs Winchester." She looked at Devon. "Your brother? He's cute." She smiled at Devon's blushing face. "I been around. Want a beer?"
After they sat down, they asked about Steven.
"I ask how everyday." Gina Wandell was sipping her beer, Jenna declined for obvious reasons, and Devon was nursing his. She sighed. "My mom died when I was a baby, she was killed by a wraith."
"I'm sorry." Both were always afraid for their parents, they made sure they were watched over by fellow hunters and witches.
"Thanks. My dad became a hunter to protect me. Before you ask, I was never in the life, my dad raised me in the most normal way he could, by raising me to live a normal life." She closed her eyes. "I was away in college when I got the news. He didn't deserve to go out like that." She looked at the siblings. "You have any leads, because I been searching for years for answers."
"Not really." Jenna said honestly. Gina looked confused.
"Then why are you here?"
"My friend had a vision. She saw you die."
"Psychic? That son of a bitch." She swore.
'What?" When they saw her get up and start pacing, they asked what was going on.
"There's this wraith, it's been going around killing psychics. I been after him for months." She looked at them. "Before you ask, it wasn't the one that killed my mom, I just hate the bastards. So, how did I die? And is it the same thing that killed my dad?"
"She never elaborated. As for your dad, I don't know. All we do know is we have to protect you. We won't take no for an answer."
"Fine." She finishes her beer. "This place is warded and armed. There's no better protection. It helps that everything is digital, the thing that killed my dad won't have it so easy breaking in."
"Just a question." Jenna asked.
"Shoot."
"Do you have any ideas what kind of creature did this?" Devon was taking notes, he kept a journal.
"After the police were done, they said it was a homicide disguised as a break and enter. The front window, the glass was outside, and the phone and alarm system was broken. They think my dad knew the killer." She teared up. "His friends, they been searching for years for his killer. But ever since crazy things start happening, they were forced to give up."
"I'm sorry."
"Thanks. I kept a copy of the police report." She gets up and takes out a folder. "As you can see, it looks like this place was ransacked. But nothing was taken." Both were looking at the pictures. "My dad was beaten with his throat slashed. If you ask me it was a mercy kill." She sighed deeply.
"Your dad was a hunter. Where did he keep his weapons?"
"Follow me." She leads them to her office. "This was my dad's base of operations. After he died, I picked up the slack. I know. Don't judge. I dropped out of college, I just couldn't let this go."
"Do you remember that night?" Devon was taking pictures, if this was supernatural in nature, he had to solve it.
"Really Devon? That happened years ago!" Jenna was embarrassed. "Sorry about that."
"If it helps find my dad's killer, I don't care." She opens the closet door. "These were my dad's guns. After the police gave them back, I picked up where my dad left off." She gestures them to look at her desk. "The computer was smashed into bits. His security footage was inside, whoever did this didn't what to be seen." She points up. "See those cameras? He was the most paranoid man I know." She looked sadly at them. "I think he knew when his time was up. He left me enough money in his life insurance, but I just couldn't return to a normal life, not after this. Please, if you know anything, I'll pay you. I don't need the money, I make enough at my job."
"You don't have to-" Jenna was cut off by Devon.
"It's a deal." He ignored his sister's glare. "We solve this case, and bring your dad closure."
"Thank you." She opened up a drawer and handed Devon an envelope. "Here. It's not much, but it should cover your expenses."
"Thanks." While Devon was counting the money, Jenna apologizes for her brother.
"My brother isn't usually like this." God she was embarrassed.
"Don't worry about it. We don't get paid to do our job." She smiles at Jenna. "Tell your husband to be careful. You Winchesters, John was a good man."
"Really Devon?" She was annoyed and humiliated at his behavior as they walked out of the house.
"Like she said, we don't get paid for this. Besides, there is expenses. Gas, food, motels. Not to mention bullets, clothing..."
"Couldn't you ask your boss?" She was irritated.
"I'm doing this as a favor for you. Plus, this job I'm doing? It's not cheap. I have to have work a regular job to pay the bills. Murphy only pays me a smidgen amount after a case. We want to open up our own agency." He already had some ideas, he wanted to take police studies or even law school. He wasn't planning on being a hunter forever. He just hoped he lived long enough to see it. "Any ideas where to begin?"
"I'll check that website. Hopefully it still exists."
Jenna had to look back several years, this website was still used by hunters, but it wasn't as popular as it used to be. She typed in Steve Wandell, and his name popped up.
May 12 2007
'Steve Wandell is dead. Murdered in cold blood, no one knows who did it.'
May 18 2007
'Little Gina, she isn't a baby anymore. But I held her as she cried during his hunter's funeral. Steve. I'll avenge your death.'
August 2 2007
'Its been months, and we still have no clue who did this. Steve, he was the most paranoid man I knew, but also the most smartest man I knew. If you needed lore, a rare weapon, he was there. RIP.'
January 1 2008
'We have to postpone our search. Things are crazy in Wyoming, some jackass opened Hell's Gate. Demons are everywhere. Fuck.'
September 27 2009
'Looks like it's Armageddon. Steve. I'm sorry buddy. You tried to warn us, about those bastard children. One of them, they survived and let Satan out to the world. I promise. I'll protect Gina. Goodbye old friend.'
"Find out anything?" Devon was reading the old police files Gina gave him.
"Nothing good." Special Children. Sam was the last survivor. Dammit. "Can I borrow your phone?"
Devon was half listening to Jenna's conversation with a psychic.
"No, Dean never elaborated. He doesn't like to talk about that." She knew Sam died that night, Dean made the difficult decision to let Sam go. "But before that, is there anything you know about those Special Children?"
"It's been years. I don't know what to tell you. I only met Sam and Dean a few times." Pamela Barnes was the name she saw on Dean's phone. She wasn't as close as their other friends, but she messaged Jenna asking how sexy Dean was with no clothes on after they got married. "Those kids, they're all dead."
"Except Sam."
"Only because he was needed alive. Lucifer, he knew what his Father was doing and threw Sam back out to the world." She herself had those dreams, she kept a bottle of liquor beside her nightstand to help her sleep. "Steve Wandell huh? I heard of his death. Poor guy. Maybe you never heard of him, but he was pretty big in the hunting community."
"How so?" There were thousands of hunters in this country alone.
"Back then, no one knew how to kill demons. Before that Magic Gun your husband carries, or your sisters in laws blowing up demons, it was impossible to kill those bastards. If someone was possessed, we had to exorcise the demon to get rid of them. That Steve guy, he knew how."
"Can you elaborate?" A witch? A special weapon, like Ruby's knife?
"I don't know, I'm a psychic, but I can't read minds. That Steve guy, he was targeted specifically for that reason. I seen those pictures, whoever this this was a professional." Pamela went quiet for a minute. "Was it Sam?"
"I don't know." Those initials, Phoebe said they're all gonna die. A few already died, Tyler Michaels, he died protecting a child according to Jesse. She looked up the names, three of the Charmed Ones former charges are dead, not including that innocent that died recently. As for Sam's and Dean's cases, a woman named Jenny Klein was recently found baked in a oven. It was Bobby Singer that discovered her body. Castiel and Dean were in a rush to save one of Castiel's charges, Hannah's vessel's former husband, he was on the list. The case Claire and Jack were on, they just managed to save those three kids in Lebanon, but wasn't able to save Eloit's mom. As for everyone else, every hunter and good witch were on the road trying to save everyone. Both Jenna and Devon told Gina to be careful, and to NOT let anyone in the house. "All I know is Gina is in danger, I want to help her before anything happens to her."
"Okay. I can make some calls, I promise not to mention Sam's name or elaborate anything the Winchesters did that year."
"Thanks Ms Barnes."
"Pamela. I'm not that old. I'll text you."
Jenna thanked her after she hung up. Hearing her stomach grumbling, she knew her baby was hungry.
Devon watched with amusement as she polished off her chicken wings.
"Enjoy yourself?" Back in college she loved chicken wings, till she became a vegetarian for personal reasons.
"Wasn't me, I tried ordering a salad, I felt nauseous thinking about it. This baby is exactly like his father." She had no clue about the gender, but since she got pregnant, she's been craving grease. She flagged down a waitress. "I'll have some pie." Definitely a Winchester inside.
"So what's next?" They were back in the motel, both were renting rooms next door to each another.
"Just wait for Pamela's call." When the phone rang, she checked the ID. "Hey. How's the case?" She mouthed it was Dean. Devon wisely kept his mouth shut. "Attempted murder? Why? What does Caroline's ex have to do with anything?" (Caroline Johnson's former husband, after Hannah took over, she allowed Caroline to say goodbye after her death) "A assassin? Is he okay? Oh thank god. But why? He's just a man. Uh huh. Okay. Hopefully he and his family takes that flight. How's Sam?" She loved her best friend, Piper was like a older sister. Sam was still stubbornly trying to find a cure, thankfully Piper was still alive, although very weak. "I'll keep an eye out. Tell Cas I said hi. Love you too, and...I know." She rolled her eyes. "I'm not hunting." She was solving a mystery. "Devon's fine, I just watched him eat a whole plate of chicken wings." She pretended not to notice his raised eyebrows. "Baby is okay. I try to rest as much as I could. Hope you can track Krissy or Rowena down. Okay, love you. Bye."
"You lied to Dean. He's not stupid, he'll figure it out." Devon knew how smart and clever Dean was. "If this involves Sam, he'll be here in two minutes." Jenna told him about the possibility of Sam's involvement in Steve's murder. "Plus you promised me you won't hunt."
"This is different. I'm solving a mystery." She said stubbornly. She saw Devon's knowing look. "This will be the last one, I'm retiring after this. I swear." She promised to help Jesse, but if Sam was in trouble, she and Devon had to clear his name just in case. As for Gina, she and Devon will give her closure. When the phone rang, she saw Pamela's number. "Hello?"
"Sorry I took so long, this case happened a long time ago, and I had to make a lot of phone calls."
"What did you find out?"
"I hate to say this, but I think Sam was involved, and Dean helped cover it up."
Oh no. Jenna swallowed.
"Does anyone know? How?"
"I called Bobby. Asked him about old cases, tried to make it sound casual. He mentioned Steve's name, how he was found murdered. He said a demon did it."
"Was Sam possessed?"
"Possibly. He said Sam came to visit, Bobby immediately saw right through the facade. He didn't elaborate on what happened, but he and Dean helped exorcise that demon from Sam's body."
"Does he know the demon's name?"
"Meg. Don't know its real name, but it prefers to be called Meg. Anyways, Bobby thinks it was the one to kill Steve using Sam's body. Jenna, please don't go any further than this, Bobby wants to keep this hush hush."
"Okay." At least she didn't have to hunt. "What about Gina? What for I tell her?"
"Make a excuse that the trail went cold, or make an excuse that the murderer is dead. Don't reopen old wounds, there are hunters out there still out for blood."
"Sure." She didn't know who Meg was, but she saw Gina's name in Phoebe's notes. "Gina's life is in danger. What do you want me to do?"
"Are you alone?"
"No."
"Good. She's a hunter I assume. Just stay with her, keep an eye out. If there are people dying, then Gina may be a target. Remember, Steve was a great hunter. Be careful."
"Okay. Thanks." She hung up. "Let's go see Gina."
They drive back to the house, and when they saw the body, both were frozen with horror.
"My god." That dog that was standing on the porch earlier, it was eviscerated, but that wasn't the worst part. It was still alive. Jenna vomited.
"Look away Jen." Devon ordered. Jenna was still vomiting.
Jenna wanted to cry when she heard the gunshot.
"Devon?"
"I smell sulfur. There's no way we can do this case by ourselves. I'm calling for backup."
"Who would do this?" She looked at the dead dog. Ignoring Devon's protests, she goes up to the dead body and wraps it up in her jacket. "I can't just leave him here."
"Gina may still be alive. I'm checking it out." He was about to go inside, till Jenna grabbed him. "Don't be a idiot. You barely started hunting." She hunted, but was nowhere as good as Dean.
"What if she's inside!" That was an innocent woman.
"This Meg, she's one expert demon. You barely confronted the last demon you met, and he was in a book! This is most likely a trap!"
"Then what do you suggest? Your best friend is a witch." He called Murphy, he said he was making some calls to hunters in the area.
"I'm calling Pamela." She wanted to call Dean, but she didn't what to get caught.
"Hello?"
"I need more info about this Meg." Once Jenna explained what happened here, Pamela was horrified.
"You did the right thing by calling me. You and Devon can't handle this case yourselves. Dean and Bobby barely did."
"What about Gina? We can't leave her to die."
"Just hang tight, go back to your motel, I'm calling someone, a pro. He's a expert demonologist." Pamela hung up.
Twenty minutes later a black SUV with tinted windows pulled up.
"Is this him?" A middle aged man walked out of the SUV. Seeing Jenna and Devon he nodded at them.
"Hey. You those amateurs?" He clipped.
"Excuse me?" Devon wasn't hunting long, but he was trained as one.
"I don't give two rats about you two. Especially a woman."
"Hey!"
He looked at Jenna and Devon with disdain.
"Go home kids, leave this to the pros." He walks towards the house.
"Wait!"
"You can't go alone!" The man turns around.
"I been hunting before you two were in diapers. Get lost." He casually strolls inside.
"The fuck is that?" Jenna demanded to Pamela after she called her back.
"I forgot to warn you, he's very old school. Plus a sexist pig. His name's Jason, he never gave me or anyone his last name. Best hunter I know, and he only works alone."
"But..."
"Look. Just let him be, and stay the hell away from him, I mean it. Don't argue. When he says he'll do a job, he'll do a job. Take your brother and go home. Gina is in safe hands." Pamela hung up.
Jenna barely had time to say anything before Jason walked out with a calm expression. He barely looked at the two hunters before he goes to his car truck and takes out a large knife. When he saw Jenna and Devon staring, he gives them a look of disdain and walks back inside the house. Once he disappeared in the doorway, Devon looked at Jenna.
"Your husband's the hunter. What would Dean do next?"
"I don't know." She realized she was still holding the dead dog. "We have to bury this poor thing."
Jenna was saddened to bury Gina's pet, she hated when animals got caught in the crossfire. She silently gave it a prayer.
"So what now?" After he finished burying the body. They were in a middle of a field, she thought this was the dog's perfect final resting place. She put up a small cross with flowers over the gravesite.
"We can go back to the motel and go home, or we can see if this Jason is a good as Pamela says he is." Jenna didn't usually judge people, but she knew that Jason was not just an ordinary hunter. "What do you think?" She looked at her brother.
"Let's go back to the house." Devon didn't trust Jason either.
When they drove up, they saw the SUV was gone. They were gone for an hour, after burying Gina's dog, they went the motel to shower and change clothes. They didn't want to attract attention with their dirty clothes, especially with dog's blood on them.
"You want to go first, or should I?" Devon didn't smell sulfur, but he was reluctant to go inside.
"Flip a coin?" She didn't want to go either, she was pregnant. She sighed. "I'll be right behind you." After Devon's flip. She had holy water, as well as that knife she borrowed from Dean's toolbox, hopefully they didn't get jumped.
Both cautiously walked inside. Neither knew what to expect, neither hunted a demon without experts. The house was a disaster, there were stuff everywhere. Seeing blood on the walls, they wondered what happened.
"Where's Gina?" Devon whispered.
"I don't know. We should split apart."
"We should stay together."
"Okay." Jenna didn't want to argue. "Gina's office?"
They walked carefully down the hallway. Devon had rock salt, but he knew that was like using a water gun on a demon. They peeked inside every room that was open, other than the mess, it was empty. Seeing a closed door, they both nodded at each other to take a side.
Jenna nodded at Devon, she had her water ready, but was willing to use that knife as necessary.
'One, two...' She mouthed. Once she said three, Devon threw open the door, just as Jenna threw the water.
"Oh my god. Gina!" Gina was laying in a pool of blood moaning in pain. She was about to approach Gina, before Devon stopped her.
"She could be possessed. Or a shapeshifter." His training was strict.
Jenna silently apologized before she splashed Gina's body. When there was no screams from a demon, Devon cut her with a small knife.
"She's not a shapeshifter either." He puts his knife away. "Gina? Are you alright?"
"Mmmm." She moaned in pain. When she opened her eyes, she looked at them with confusion. "Where am I? Who are you?"
"Gina. It's Jenna. You met us earlier, this is my brother Devon."
"Where is it?" She moaned. She had cuts all over her body.
"What." Devin was calling 911.
"The Map."
"What map?" Jenna was using a first aid kit that she grabbed from the desk drawer.
"The Map my dad was protecting. That demon, she was looking for It." Only then she saw burn marks on her arm. Her anti demon tattoo must have been burned off.
They heard an ambulance whining in the distance. Devon knew they couldn't stay, not without being exposed. .
"We gotta go." He apologized to Gina. "Jen. Now." Before he left, he smashed up the computers, making sure he broke the hard drives.
"What about Jason?" Before Gina could answer her, she died on the floor. Dammit.
"JENNA!" They were fucked if they got caught. The sirens were coming closer.
"I'm sorry." Phoebe's premonition was coming true. They ran out and drove away before the paramedics came.
Jason just watches as the two hunters took off. He didn't want to hurt Gina, Steve was his good friend. But she was already possessed by that demon. He had to hand it to Meg, or whatever its name was. She was tough.
He looked at the dagger that he found on her. It wasn't what he was looking for, but this will be useful for his hunts. He pretends to close his trunk after loading up his fishing equipment. He waves goodbye to his 'wife' that was watching the paramedics from the window.
"So what now?" Devon was driving, he knew his sister was shaken.
"I don't know." She lost an innocent. Dean was gonna kill her.
"I won't tell Dean. I swear." He seen 'Jenna's' livestream, she was playing a popular MMO on a popular streaming service.
"What about Murphy?"
"I already called. He understands." He heard about his own case, a janitor at a college died after his heart exploded inside his body. He and another hunter found a hex bag nearby. "Jen, we tried."
"Let's just go home." She was so tired. "Baby, you'll see Daddy soon." Dean just texted, he said he was coming back, he had no choice, his shift was in three days. He had to provide for his family.
"What about Jesse?" Devon was looking at the list Jesse gave him.
"He's still an innocent. But not now. I just want to go home."
They didn't say another word as they drove down the highway.
Phoebe was walking down the hospital hallway when she felt a pinch.
"Piper."
Piper fell to the ground as the arrow hits her arm.
Through blurry eyes she saw two men fighting. When her eyes cleared, she couldn't believe it.
"It can't be."
