Sunrise, Wyoming
February 29 1860
"I don't see why we couldn't go to my mother's, it's lovely in California."
Elias kisses his wife on the head.
"The Gold Rush is still going strong. It's very dangerous for travelers. I just don't want you hurt."
"You are so sweet. How did I manage to snag such a gentleman."
"Because you are a lady, plus I want to protect the woman I love."
"Oh Elias." She giggled.
Deputy Wein watches the couple in jealousy. She was supposed to be his, till the stranger came to town. He vowed to get revenge on the couple, especially Elias. He swore that he'll get what's coming to him.
Jaunty piano music was playing as the bar patrons laughed and drank. A half Native American man was playing poker with one of the local folks.
Bo Lightfeather stares coldly at the man across from him.
"What's it gonna be?"
There was over twenty eight dollars on the table, a few months pay for the average man. The table was being watched by the bar, almost everyone was watching how the two patrons were gonna win.
Cal Danson gives him a cold stare back. They already cleaned out the other players, only the two men were left.
"I'll raise you another."
"Oooo." The crowd watching was in awe. Cal just put a whole dollar down.
Bo watches the money being placed on the table.
"Then I raise you."
"Awwww." Two dollars were slid across. Bo's brown eyes bore into Cal's own. "You in?"
Cal looked across, straight into Bo's eyes as well, and calmly puts his purse down.
"I raise you five."
"Wow." Franklin Elkins was impressed. He stopped serving drinks to watch the game.
"That man, Bo. He sure is handsome." Darla straightens her dress.
"My brother, he is choosy about his dates." Isabel tells the saloon 'working girl.'
"Well, if he's interested, tell him I'm available. I can show him a good time."
"Will do." Isabel said dryly. She watches the game. When her brother raised again, her eyebrows rose.
Cal glares at his opponent. Bo just stares blankly back. Cal silently takes off his watch.
"This is a family heirloom. It belonged to my grandfather. So what's gonna be, you half breed?" He was in disbelief when he throws a few bucks down.
"I see your hand, plus raise you fifty."
The crowd murmurs in excitement. Even the mayor didn't make that much. Cal stares furiously at the Native American. Bo just stares calmly back. After a few seconds he throws down his cards.
"I fold." Immediately everyone surrounds Bo, congratulating him on the win. He smiles politely as Darla kisses him on the cheek.
"Thanks." Just as he was about to collect his winnings, he was staring up at a barrel of a gun.
"I don't pay cheaters." Cal was holding a gun to Bo's face.
"I believe I won fair and square." Bo says calmly. Before Cal could argue back, they heard a click of a shotgun. Immediately, the saloon went silent.
"I think it's time for you to go." Bartender Elkins was holding the shotgun in Cal's direction.
Cal stares furiously at Bo. Knowing he couldn't survive a shotgun blast, reluctantly puts his gun away and walks out. Once he was gone, everyone starts talking and drinking again.
"Congrats brother."
"Thanks." He smiles as he counts the money. Including the watch, he had enough to put a down payment on a house outside of town. Or even buy a new horse.
"You used your 'gift' didn't you." Isabel tells him in a low voice.
"I'm good at poker."
"You know what I mean." Their mom forbade her son to use his power.
"Why have it, if I can't use it." He puts his money in his satchel.
"Remember Father's lesson? There are consequences." Even as children, the message was drilled in their heads.
"Uh huh." He gets up to have a drink, everyone congratulating him on his win.
Cal was drinking outside, furious at Bo, but mostly at himself. His father's watch. He took another drink.
"Cal Danson?"
"Who's asking?" He wasn't worried about being robbed. He was broke.
"Name's Buck. I heard you know everyone and everything around here."
"You're asking the wrong guy. You want gossip, go to the saloon. Elkins is the man you want to see." He took another drink, straight out of the bottle.
"I'm asking you." The stranger holds up a twenty. Immediately Cal goes on guard.
"It's a generous offer, but I don't swing that way."
"I'm not asking you out, I'm recruiting." That got his attention.
"What do you want with me?"
"My boss is looking for some good men, we heard of you. Heard you are one of the best gunslingers in the state."
"Yeah. So?" Cal was flattered, but so was everyone in this neck of the woods.
"Boss' name is Sutter. He is looking for some talent. You want to make some real money, come head to the boarding house. We're heading to California to find our fortune." He hands him the twenty. "You can make double that if you join us." The stranger walks away, leaving a bewildered Cal.
Bo shook his head.
"You're a sweet girl, but I'm getting tired." He tried not to stare at her mouth.
"If you change your mind, come back tomorrow. It's my day off." Darla giggles.
"Darla! You have a customer!"
"Coming! Darn." She playfully pouted. "Well, looks like it's back to work. I'll hope you come back." She sashays away to greet the town Mayor.
Bo breathes out a sigh of relief. Darla and the other girls kept flirting with him all night, clearly hoping for him to share his winnings. Bo finishes his tequila and tips Elkins a five.
"Why thank you!" Elkins puts the tip in his pocket. "You coming back tomorrow?"
"I'm not sure yet." He liked Wyoming, but wondered if he should stick to his plan and head west. His cousin lived out there, he was thinking of joining him. He finally made enough to start over. Maybe take both his mom and sister with him. "Have a good night!"
"You too." Elkins turns to greet the next customer.
Samuel Colt watches as the Psychic walks out with his sister. Boy better be careful, people like him attract the wrong kind of people. Seeing a demon following them out, he takes his gun and follows them.
"California? What's over there?" Isabel was watching as her brother was packing his clothes.
"Gold. Sunny beaches. A new start. You coming? Mother is, she is excited to move, too many ghosts in this town." Their mother was never the same since their father and her husband Soaring Crow died when they were kids. "The train leaves in a few days, just packing the essentials." Bo puts down a old sweater. He wouldn't need it over there, California was warm.
"I guess so." There was nothing here. She loved the town, Sunrise was full of lovely people. But there was too many bad memories here. Their father was found dead under mysterious circumstances, although he told his wife he saw his own death. "But where would we live?"
"Cousin Vern always said it was lovely in Interval."
"Interval? Never heard of it."
"It's east from San Francisco. It's a small town, but has plenty of jobs." Sunrise had no work, there was hardly any traffic around here. "You can get a job as a schoolteacher."
Isabel was skeptical about her brother's rash decisions. Especially when he used his psychic gifts for selfish gains. Like last night. He cheated everyone out of their money, like Cal's pocketwatch. Bo was proudly wearing it.
"I don't know." She hated change, even though she was looking for work. She lost her job when she was laid off from the Mayor's office.
"You can always work at Elkin's saloon. He's always busy. His dancing girls are very popular." Bo teased.
"Fine." She admitted she was tempted. "When do we leave?"
Cal was staring up at the Man in Black. Whoever he was, he scared the hell out of him. Still holding the twenty, he listened to him talking about California.
"You all heard of the Gold Rush." Everyone nodded. "Well there is money in railroads. Or so everyone believes." He glared at everyone who was murmuring in confusion. "Shut up!" Immediately the room goes quiet. "There is a struggling town out west, it is a mining town, but unlike the surrounding towns, they didn't strike gold or oil."
"What does that have to do with us!" Slade calls out. Cal knew him on a casual basis, as the town troublemaker, he gave everyone a headache. Especially Bo Lightfeather. Slade hated him and his sister for getting him in trouble with the sheriff. He also hated Bo, called him a bastard for having a white mother and a Native American man as parents.
"You are all talented men. All of you, I didn't just choose you because you know how to shoot a gun, I chose you because you all want a chance to start over. He starts pacing. "The train leaves tonight, those that stay, good luck. Those that want to come, get packing. That twenty should cover your travel expenses till we get to California. See you at six."
Cal looks around, almost everyone agreeing to come except one.
"Samuel! You're not coming?" Buck asks. He was almost the same age as Samuel Colt.
"Nah, here's your money back. It's tempting, but I have no desire to return out west." Samuel knew his biological mother used to live in California. She was found dead by her husband. Samuel was only a baby, but remembered her sweet smile.
"Suit yourself." Buck pockets the twenty, he knew Sutter didn't care about the money. "Good luck with that railroad of yours." Why Samuel built that railroad, he had no idea. "Have a good day!"
"You too." Samuel still had to get rid of that body he shot. That demon, he wanted to use Bo to see if he can see the future. He silently walked out, he needed a stiff drink.
Bo, Isabel, their mother wave goodbye to everyone at Sunset. Elkins waves farewell at the three, he was gonna to miss them.
Samuel watches as the train pulls away, he looked up to see a black crow staring at the train.
'Soaring Crow, your children...' The crow squawks. 'I can't stop you old friend. Good luck.' He watches as the crow flies away. He had to head back, he had to write in his journal, how he lost that demon killing knife he had. The last gift his mother left him, held by his adoptive parents until his sixteeth birthday when he killed his first demon.
The train leaves a loud choo choo as it leaves the platform, everyone waving goodbye.
Present Day
"I don't see why you brought me here." Phoebe and her father Victor were walking around the abandoned ghost town.
"Well I was thinking, since I have some free time on my hands, I was thinking of buying this place." Victor couldn't believe the deal he was offered. "Since your sisters are all busy, I am getting bored."
"So you want to invest in an old ghost town?" Phoebe been to towns like this before, but something about this place gave her the heebee geebees. She snuggled closer to her father when he saw her trembling.
"Chilly? Yes I know." Winter was still around, although it never snowed, it was pretty cold, especially in March. "Do you miss her?"
"Piper? Of course. It's not easy having her across the country, married with a baby on the way." Phoebe missed her so much. She wished they lived in the Manor, that way Phoebe could talk to her about her problems sometimes. Plus see her future niece or nephew anytime she wanted.
"I miss her too, can't wait to meet my grandchild. But I was talking about Prue. I hadn't heard from her, how is she?"
"She's doing good. Last I heard she sent Piper a picture from Australia. She and Andy were on a beach in Shark Bay." Phoebe missed her even more. She was glad that she was okay, but wished she talked to her instead of sending pictures.
"I wish she'll come home." Victor sighs. "She should come home at least once. Especially before Piper gives birth."
"Me too, Dad. Me too." That chill again. Phoebe wished she brought a extra sweater.
"I'm glad she is happy at least. Andy's a good man. He's mortal, just like Sam. Although I'm not happy what they both do for a living." Hunters, they were just as bad as whitelighters.
"It's a thankless job. No hunter is happy doing it. Being a witch is not much easier." Phoebe missed Leo everyday. Piper told her what happened to him, how he sacrificed himself for her.
"Can't be easy. Anyways." Victor needed to change the subject. "This town. I got offered a great deal, however the seller hasn't been able to sell it. Every buyer backed off before the sale was finalized. I was hoping you can use your mojo to figure out why."
"Really Dad? Using magic? Wouldn't that count as personal gain?"
"Well, maybe you can figure out why everyone was spooked away from this place. That could count as important. Rumors are this place is haunted." He said in a low voice. "Could be why everyone avoids this place."
"Haunted huh. I can't always predict what I can see, but I'll try." Phoebe felt her phone ringing. "My phone. Hello? Hello?" She looked at the phone. No signal. "Weird." She jumped when she heard an noise. "What is that?" She saw a door slamming closed with a dry tumbleweed going by.
"Maybe it's the wind."
"Maybe." She felt cold, but she knew it wasn't the weather. Seeing cold air come out of her mouth, she knew they weren't alone. "Uh, Dad. I think we should leave." Before Victor could answer she jumped when she heard a bottle breaking. When she saw a ghost of a man getting thrown out of the abandoned saloon, she was frozen watching the scene that was happening in front of her. "Do you see that?"
"See what?"
A Native American man was thrown out of the saloon, followed by a cowboy.
"You're a dead man Bo." The cowboy says to Bo who was laying on the ground.
"You see this?" Phoebe couldn't believe what was happening in front of her.
"See what?" Victor didn't see anything.
"Hey! What's going on!" Phoebe yelled to the ghosts.
"No one crosses Mr Sutter." The cowboy tells Bo who gets up from the ground. He then punches him, making the ghost fly through Phoebe.
Phoebe could only watch as "Bo" gets up and runs off with the cowboy shooting at him. They both vanish a second later.
"Phoebe? Phoebe? What's going on?" He looked at her lip. "You're bleeding." Phoebe had a cut lip, plus a bruise on her face.
Phoebe touches her lip. Seeing blood, she knew this place was trouble.
"I wouldn't buy this place Dad. Really bad Feng Shui." The cold air was gone, but she knew she was in trouble.
Above one of the buildings, a lone crow squawks.
Sunrise Wyoming
March 5, 1861
A lone noose is seen swinging from the gallows, the street silent with nothing but a sign swinging in the wind. Two cowboys step on the street, a frightened woman watches from her window.
The Sheriff of the town stares coldly at his opponent, who was standing a few meters away who was staring at him back.
The Criminal stares at him back, his black coat swishing slightly in the wind.
The town folks are inside, none are foolish to step outside.
They both wait till the clock strikes twelve, before drawing their guns.
Dean stares at his opponent, his long leather coat hanging from his sides, his weapon, The Colt, hidden underneath.
The Phoenix opens his coat just as the Sheriff did. Both itching to shoot.
Only one will walk away from this standoff, as per tradition in the Old Wild West.
Bong! Bong!
The town clock strikes twelve.
Dean narrows his eyes. Same with his opponent.
Both draw out their weapons.
A crow squawks as they shoot.

Two Days, Plus a Century and Some Decades Later
"What are we looking for?" Bobby came over just as Sam and Dean called, saying they were in town.
"A library." Piper was away in San Francisco, apparently Phoebe was feeling under the weather. Sam came here with Dean, saying he got a email, that something important was here.
"We're trusting some mystery email Sam?" Dean scoffed when he got that email. But when he read there was something important there for their 'mission.' Dean had no choice but to come. "Laura is still a baby, I'm supposed to be retired." Dean hated to be away from his family. He was very overprotective of his wife and newborn daughter.
"Well, if it prevents that dark future, I'll take it." Sam woke up with another nightmare. Dean slaughtered the Charmed Ones, but didn't stop there. He killed his wife and daughter in front of Sam. Dean's eyes were black, he was telling Sam he was just following orders. The last thing Sam saw was that knife going inside his belly, with Dean's dark eyes boring in his. "It has to be here somewhere." There were books, but none that caught his eye.
Bobby and Dean looked around, knowing how paranoid hunters were, were trying to see where Samuel Campbell hid his books.
"I don't know why you boys are here. You have families that need you. I could have searched here by myself and called if I found anything."
"I don't know why either." Dean couldn't figure it out himself. That email, the sender insisted that it was important Sam and Dean both come. Said it affected more than just the two of them.
Sam didn't know why either, when Dean showed up with a overnight bag and car, he insisted that Sam pack a bag and come.
"Really Dean?" Sam just dropped off his wife at the airport. Piper could have used her powers to go to San Francisco, but her magic was acting weird. Especially after she got pregnant. Last time she tried visiting, she ended up in Seattle. She had to steal a car just to go home. "I thought you were done." Both had no choice but to retire again, their families were more important.
"I was, but this is something I can't ignore." Dean was about to block that email, till he got sent a video. There was a destroyed city, most buildings were razed to the ground. When Dean saw the sign of Lawrence, Kansas charred and melted, he knew he was seeing something from the future. "You coming? I really need you to come with me." That person sent another picture. The Halliwell Manor was completely gone, nothing but a charred skeleton remained where the Manor once stood. "I already asked Devon to stay with Jen and Laura. He's already here, otherwise I wouldn't be here."
"A hunt?" Once Dean showed Sam what was in his phone, Sam didn't hesitate to pack. "Where to?"
Sam was looking around, knowing their grandfather had a secret room somewhere. Looking down, he knew where the secret room was.
"Bobby! Help me move this desk!" Once Samuel's desk was moved, Sam looked down for a lever of some kind. Seeing a trapdoor, he pulls it open.
"I'll be damned." He follows Sam inside, followed by Dean. "What are we looking for?"
"I don't know." That mystery person never elaborated. "Guess we'll know when we see it." Dean hops to the floor. What was he looking for? A book? A weapon? A magical stick? He wished that person wasn't so vague.
"You trust him?" Sam called out.
"Trust who?" Bobby asked.
"I do. I can't explain it." Dean couldn't figure it out himself. "Find something that sticks out."
San Francisco, California
"You sure you don't want to eat something? You look under the weather." Piper was still jetlagged, usually flying didn't bother her, but she was so tired and exhausted these days. Ugh, she felt like puking again. Her baby was wearing her out.
"I'm fine. I just got a cold." Phoebe was kicking herself for not wearing a sweater when she and their dad were walking around the other day. "Ugh." She felt so weak. Especially around her side. "You should stay away, it's risky for a pregnant woman to be around me."
"Bull." Piper goes over to her. "Mom took care of us even when we sick. Prue said when she was pregnant with you, she stayed up all night taking care of us when we had flu's. She obviously had a healthy baby." Phoebe didn't look so good. "You sure you're alright?" When Victor called, he told Piper about what happened in that town. How Phoebe saw a ghost.
"It was very cold that day. I'm sure it was worse in Kansas." The Midwest was well known for snow.
"Nice try. Don't change the subject. You're sick, I doubt it is a cold." Piper heard of ghost sickness, it affected those that came across restless sprits. "Let me look at you. Oh god. What happened!" There was a ugly bruise on her side.
"I don't know. It appeared last night." Phoebe groaned. "If only Leo was still here, he could have healed me. I'm sorry!" She saw Piper's expression. "I meant that I should have been more careful!" She overheard Piper crying the night she got out of her coma.
"It's fine. I already dealt with his death." Piper insisted. "Leo knew what he was getting into when he fell." She lifted Phoebe's shirt. "Oh! Pheebs! You're hurt!" Phoebe had a ugly purple bruise on her side.
"Ow!" Phoebe yelped when Piper touched her bruise.
"Did you fight demons when I wasn't around?"
Phoebe weakly shook her head.
"Just saw a ghost. Two actually." She was getting dizzy from the pain.
"Huh?" Before Phoebe could answer, Victor comes in with a shopping bag.
"Got some cold medicine. Plus that hot water bottle you wanted."
"Thanks Dad." She groaned. "I don't think this is a common cold." She felt so weak. "Got any aspirin?" She was in deep pain.
"You're burning up." Piper felt her head. Dad, call 911."
''NO!" Phoebe yelled.
"Honey, you don't look good." Victor knelt down and looked at her.
"This isn't something normal." Phoebe felt weird, like she was experiencing someone's else's pain. "I'll be fine."
"Then we'll take to you see Ava." She was Sacred Meadows resident doctor. "If it's supernatural, she'll figure it out. Dad, get the car, I'll call Paige." Paige was living with Richard, she and Billie moved out a few weeks ago.
Phoebe didn't argue when Victor picked her up.
"I'm calling Sam, let him know what's up. Dad, hurry." Phoebe was getting pale.
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
"Is she going to be alright?" Sam shakes his head. "Call me if anything changes. Thanks. Me too. Bye."
"How's Phoebe?" Dean was flipping through a book, but overheard Sam's conversation.
"Sick. Claims it's a flu, but Piper believes it is something else."
"Poor girl." Bobby says absently. "Huh."
"What is it?" Dean was just checking his phone, making sure things were okay back home. Jenna wrote that she was taking a nap, Devon agreed to watch the baby for awhile. Dean hoped this didn't take long, he hated to be away.
"Ever heard of a phoenix?" One of Samuel's old books mentioned a powerful monster.
"The actor? Thought he did good in that movie he did, although not as good as Ledger." He smiled at Laura's picture. She was so cute. She had Dean's nose, and Jenna's cheeks.
"The bird." That made both men look up.
"A phoenix? Does that have to do with that email you got Dean?"
"I guess, but I don't see what that has to do with us."
"I always thought those were a myth." Bobby was reading the book about Phoenix's. There very little lore, most stories were nothing but legends and tales. "Listen to this, long hated by fellow monsters, they are considered an accident."
"An accident?" Dean was now paying attention.
"Doesn't say how. But it is a natural enemy to everyone."
Dean just stared at the table. Why was he the one to get that email?
"How is she?" They were waiting in the waiting area, at the moment the 'clinic' was busy today. Many hunters came here to get treatment for their injuries, most didn't want to see a regular doctor, here everything was strictly confidential. Although expensive. There was countless doctors across the country with clinics just like this one, but this was the most cleanest.
"I don't know. Ava said she is getting checked out by her assistant." Paige knew almost every staff here, she hired most of them when she was in charge. "She and Doctor Roberts are super busy today."
"I could see that." The waiting area was full, most were injured hunters that needed treatment. "Paige! Dad!" All three get up when Dr Nichole walks out. "How is she?" Piper was getting worried.
"Come with me." Ava leads them to the critical care unit. "I don't know what's wrong exactly, but when Phoebe explained what she saw, I have a plausible explanation. Phoebe? Can you tell them what you told me?"
Phoebe looked even worse. She was grimacing when she moved.
"Hey, thanks for dragging me here. But you don't have too. It would be cheaper at the hospital." She joked.
"Sweetheart, if I known you would be in danger, I would have never put your life in danger."
"You didn't know. Ow." She allowed Dr Nichole to examine her.
"Oh my god. What exactly happened?" Piper was horrified.
Once Phoebe explained what happened in that old ghost town, Piper gets up to leave.
"Piper! Where are you going?" Paige asked in a accusatory tone.
"I'm gonna dig up some graves. I'll take some hunters with me." She had no supplies with her, but she figured to ask a few hunters that were in the waiting area. "Dig them up and burn 'em." She detested it, but didn't want to risk exposure. Plus didn't want to risk her baby using her own magic.
"You're pregnant! Don't risk your life's or your baby's!" Paige says in a loud voice.
Phoebe nodded weakly.
"This, this isn't a haunting."
"Then what is it?" Victor was holding on to Phoebe's hand.
"It's a legend in my family. That a whole town of people just upped and vanished in thin air." Ava tells them. Her gypsy clan, she heard lots of stories growing up.
"We heard that before." Croatoan, that town up North, one in the East Coast, the legends were endless. Piper disliked the angels for having a hand in it.
"Yeah, but this town. It just vanished. It wasn't as popular as San Francisco, but had some tourists during the Gold Rush. Rumors say a curse was inflicted on the land, and everyone disappeared after that."
"You said they were dressed up as cowboys?"
Phoebe nodded.
"Like the Old West. The one in black, he was yelling at a man named Bo." She winced, the pain was getting worse. "He was telling him not to mess with Sutter. He could be a demon. He may be in The Book." She gasped.
"I can head to City Hall. Find out old records." Victor suggested.
"Or, look online." Paige takes out her cell. "The wonders of modern technology." After a few minutes, they exchange notes. "Check this out."
"I see it." Piper was reading the records. "April 23, 1873. Everything stopped after that. No records, no deaths, nothing." She was mystified. "Demon Deal, Angel Possession?"
Dr Nichole excused herself, her next patient needed to see her.
"Alternative Universe? Wouldn't be our first rodeo." Paige still remembered her own adventure.
"In 1873? Not even the angels knew about those back then."
"Archai witch?" Piper felt awful that her old charge was dead. She blamed herself for not being there when he clearly needed her.
"Or a Time Loop." Phoebe suggested weakly. She felt Bo's pain. "Remember Tempus?"
"The one that caused Andy to die the first time?" Piper remembered Prue's devastation. How depressed she was. "He's gone. Last I heard, he was killed." Demons always fought against each other.
"Or could be a curse." Everyone looked at Victor. "I may not be a expert on this supernatural thing, but I heard legends around here."
"I can get the Book."
"Dad, do you mind taking a drive with me?" There was a Native American Reservation close by. "We can ask the locals."
"Sure. Honey, will you be alright." Phoebe nodded with a weak nod.
"Paige, once you bring back the Book, stay with her." Paige nodded. "Dad, let's go."
Back in Sioux Falls, Dean was shaking with excitement.
"Guys, guys, guys, guys. Check this out. He was holding on to a old journal. "Listen to this." Dean cleared his throat. "March 5, 1861. Gun killed a Phoenix today. Sunrise, Wyoming. Left a pile of smothering ash."
"A gun? What gun exists to kill a Phoenix?"
Dean smiled at Sam. Holds up the old journal and opens it.
"No way." Bobby was staring at the book.
"The Colt? As in Samuel Colt? Let me see that." Dean pulls it away before Sam could touch it.
"Get your own." Dean was pouring over Colt's notes. This guy was a legend in the hunting community, almost every hunter was in awe about his life.
"Did he say what it looked like? Gold feathers? Did it fly?" Bobby was dying to read the journal, but Dean was greedily possessing it.
"All it said is Phoenix." Wow. This book mentioned their ancestor, Jebediah Campbell. "Looks like our family's been hunting forever." Dean was curious about his and Sam's family tree. There was little about the Winchesters, other than Walter, there was no records of anyone before him.
"Did he say where he found it?" Sam asked with excitement. He was glad he came along, at least for the moment.
"No." Huh. In 1873, old Jebediah went to California. Said there was a man he was hunting. He wasn't alone, he brought another hunter with him.
"We can try tracking down its descendant." Sam suggested. "Although, I don't know where to start."
"Or we can go back." Dean was reading the journal. "March 5, 1861. We can Star Trek IV this bitch." Westerns wasn't the only thing he was obsessed with, he liked William Shatner.
Sam shrugged, he preferred books.
"I only seen Deep Space Nine." Bobby rarely watched television, but wherever he had downtime, he like watching that show. Made him forget about his problems.
"Really? You guys never heard of saving the whales?" Both men shrug. "Star Trek IV. " Both give Dean a blank look. "We time travel. Sam, got enough juice?" Dean was glad Sam was a witch.
"That is very dangerous. I got stuck in a ice box for nearly a century." Sam remembered thawing out. "I'm not doing that again. Besides, no witch could swing that."
"But your friends were sent back in time."
"Yeah, and almost wiped out their existence. Since then it is strictly forbidden." Prue, Piper and Phoebe almost lost their bloodline. Their ancestor, Melinda Warren would have died. Those witches were severely punished by the Elders. They were all stripped of their powers, and couldn't save Melinda when she got burned on the stake when she reached adulthood.
"Then can ask Cas. He knows every trick there is."
"He's human now." Bobby was surprised Castiel stayed human for so long, both Claire and Jack were grown up now. Him and his angelic wife could be angels again.
"Then he can find an angel."
"Then say hello to your old buddy. Bobby and I will be far away from here once you pray."
"Never mind." Dean never wanted to see Douchebag ever again. "Now what?"
"You got me." Bobby was stumped.
"We can go look in Daniel's notes, you and Bobby could see what Grandpa was hiding." He was about to walk out the door when he remembered. He saw Sam's smirk. "Okay, you can go. I'll stay behind and look." Sam had magic.
"I'll be back."
Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, California
"Where do we start Dad?" They were in the small town.
"My old colleague, Conner Woods used to live here."
"Conner Woods?" Piper expected a old fashioned Nature name. Like Owl Feathers, or Sun God.
"This is the new century. Don't be stereotyping." Victor scolded.
"Whoops. Sorry." Piper felt so stupid and racist. Witches were stereotyped for centuries. "So where can we find this guy?"
"Just texted him, he's at the local café. It's not far from here." Once they get there, they walk inside.
"Bennett!" A Native American man wearing a blue jean jacket was waving to them. Piper couldn't help but flinch, that looked like the jacket Leo wore in that ghostly plane they were in.
"Woods!" Victor goes up to him and shakes his hand. "Been a long time. How's the family?"
"Great. Cheyenne is doing good, she got a job as a nurse.'' Naming his wife.
"And the kids?"
"Grown up and gone. I'm going to be a grandpa." Conner said proudly. "My oldest, she's having twins."
"Me too. My daughter, she's having her first." Victor was just as proud. He puts his arm around Piper's shoulder.
"Congrats. You and the angel. I'm glad that the whitelighters are allowed to marry." His late great uncle, Light Wind was a whitelighter.
"Uh, she..." God this was awkward.
"Leo and I broke up. My husband, he's a hunter." Piper explained. "His name is Sam Winchester. Leo, he died."
Conner looked embarrassed.
"My apologies. I don't get out much. A hunter huh. You get those nightmares too?"
Once they sat down with some coffees, Piper asked about old curses.
"The town north of here. My great, great, great aunt told stories about that town. It was a typical western town. There was hundreds like it all across the country. Then one day everyone vanished. My great aunt, she went to the city to trade. She was gone for one night. When she came back early the next day, she was surprised to see everyone was gone. When she looked around, she felt heavy. Like she was wasn't alone."
"What do you mean?" Victor never heard of it.
"My ancestor was a medicine man. He knew what a curse was. My aunt, she felt the energy of the people that was once there."
"Like ghosts?" Piper knew when places were haunted. As a witch, she could see ghosts now.
Conner shook his head.
"It was more than that. She felt, like she was floating in a dream. When she saw the Crow, she knew she had to get out of there. She didn't want to get cursed herself."
"A crow?" Piper and Victor were confused. "What does that have to do with Phoebe?" Victor told him about her sickness.
"Crows are believed to be intelligent creatures. Many legends say they are messengers. Warning those that there is danger afoot."
"Phoebe and I heard a crow." Victor didn't think much of it.
"There are other legends saying they are messengers of death."
"Uh, uh. No way. Phoebe isn't gonna die." Piper shook her head. "She's a good woman, she never did any evil in her life. At least not intentionally."
"She is a witch, yes?" They both nod. They knew curses doubled for magical beings, especially witches. "Is she psychic?" When they both nodded, Conner sighed. "Then she is infected."
"Is there a cure?" Victor interrupted Piper before she spoke up, by holding her hand.
"Does that have to do with the things she seen?" Piper never thought that Phoebe could get hurt again. She remembered her time when her mind broke. Poor woman was under psychiatric care for months.
"There is a story. An innocent man was gunned down in cold blood. His crime, standing up for the town. When no one stopped him, the Crow punished the town. With his death, the townspeople are forced to relieve that day over and over again for all eternity."
"Is there anyway to break it?" His baby girl. Victor will be damned losing her again.
"You have to break the curse. Right the wrong."
"Dad, we gotta go." Every second they were here, Phoebe's time was running out.
"Wait." Conner held up his hand before they got up. "You can't just go back, it is impossible."
"We're witches, we'll find away." How hard can time travel be?
"It's not that easy. The Crow, he isn't just a crow. Or a messenger. He is a descendant."
"Of what?" Both said in unison.
"The Watcher."
Dean and Bobby were silently reading when Sam "popped in."
"Geez Sam!" Dean and Bobby almost had heart attacks. "A warning!"
"Sorry." Sam just managed to use this new magic. It was way more advanced than the orbing magic. It was more subtle. "Found some notes." He put Daniel's journal down on the table. "There is a way to travel through time, without an angel or a demon's help." He opened the page dedicated to witches. "Phoenix witches."
"Phoenix witches?" Bobby took the book and read the notes. "I thought they died out?" Phoenix witches were a group of very rare, very powerful witches. Neither aligned to good or evil, the phoenix tended to keep to themselves. Every witch carried a small birthmark of the phoenix. They were believed to have wiped out during the witch burnings of the sixteenth century.
"Not all of them. Listen to this. During the times of the Salem Witch Trials, a young woman was marked for death. Her mentor, a phoenix made her a promise. That from the ashes, she can arise. Every offspring will carry a gift, the gift of magic." Sam was reading the notes Daniel wrote.
"Are they immortal?" Dean was getting a headache. So many witches, Sam must he happy he and his wife weren't alone in the world.
"No. They have normal lifespans like the rest of us. But their magic, it is ultra powerful. They can use magic, similar to demons, witches, and warlocks."
"They are also evil. They weren't just hunted down for being witches. They were deadly assassins. Even after they died, they came back. The only way they could die a permanent death was fire." That was the reason the witch trails existed in the first place. "What makes this new breed so different?" Bobby ran into one years ago.
"Other than being witches? Nothing. They are hated as much as the phoenix. They show no allegiance to no one but themselves. They can work for anyone, but only for the right price." Sam saw the entry in the Book of Shadows. Daniel, he knew more than his father.
"I have some gold." Bobby had a stash.
"I have savings. Dean?"
"Laura's college fund. Fine. I'll ask Jen." He hated asking for money, him and Jenna argued about bills. Dean insisted on providing, only accepting Jenna's money for their daughter's future.
"Oh! Thank god you're back." Paige was sitting on a chair next to Phoebe's bed. "She's sleeping, but I been watching over her." Paige needed to return the favor, Phoebe was the one that saved her life in that universe they were stuck in. "What did you find out?" The Book of Shadows was sitting on the bed. "I looked in the Book, and found this."
Time Loops
Certain spiritual traditions believe that a great evil, or great injustice can be cursed into a time loop, until it is righted.
"So that's why I'm cursed. Our job is to right the wrong." Phoebe said from the bed.
"I thought you were asleep!" Paige goes to check on her. "I can get Ava."
"It won't change what's happening to me." She says in a weak voice.
We'll fix this." The phoenix. If they could travel back, they could free Phoebe.
"I had a premonition while I was asleep."
Bo was running away from the cowboy when he got shot on the back, Bo turns around and tosses a knife directly in the cowboy's heart. Both fall to the ground.
Phoebe lifted up her hand. There was blood.
"I think...I think, I been shot." She slowly and painfully lifts up her gown. Her bruise had a gunshot wound.
"I'm getting Ava." Paige runs out.
"I'm calling Sam." Sam's family had extensive knowledge. "Dad, stay with her."
"Daddy."
"I'm right here sweetheart." Victor will never leave her side.
"Phoebe's been WHAT?! I can be there right away. Are you sure? Well, I can see what I can find, but I'm afraid she won't last that long." Sam felt so helpless. "A curse? Oh no. Is there anything I could do?"
"What's going on?"
"Beats me." Bobby shrugged.
"Okay, I can try. Dean, Bobby and I are going to look for a phoenix. No, a witch. Okay, you look for her, and we'll look in Samuel's library. If anyone knew how to solve things, it was him. Tell Phoebe we'll be praying. Okay. Love you, bye."
"Is she okay?"
"The phoenix bird could wait. Phoebe's been shot."
"Is this her address?" Both Paige and Piper were standing outside a apartment door.
"According to my scrying, this was where the crystal landed." They knock. No answer. "Fuck this." Piper blows the door open. "You gotta be kidding me."
"Looks like Phoebe wasn't the only one with premonitions." The apartment was empty, other than some furniture. ''She must have took off a few days ago." There was empty drawers and bare hangers.
"She's a mom. She was afraid that we'll go after her daughter." Piper saw little girl clothes. "Let's head back, there's no way we can help Phoebe by staying here."
"So Phoebe been shot?! How's that possible?" Dean was mystified.
"Could be some kind of ghost sickness." Sam suggested. He was clueless.
"She said it was a curse." Once Sam explained what was going on. "But as a psychic, she saw the guy get shot. Curses are very powerful, Sam, please be careful. Witches are more vulnerable to curses than mortals."
"We have to save her." Sam didn't know what to do. "We have to track down this phoenix witch."
"I know where to find one." Bobby tells them.
"What! Bobby, why didn't you mention it?"
"I was about to, then your wife called. Okay, you boys get ready. We need money, or whatever treasures you have. She's not cheap." Bobby gets up. "Get some appropriate clothes, you can't stand out too much."
"I know where to get clothes. But I have to get some money out."
"Me too." Sam had some cash, hopefully it was enough.
"Ava, is she going to be okay?" Phoebe was drinking water from the cup Victor was giving her.
"I can't stop the bleeding. This isn't her wound." Dr Nichole was a trained surgeon, but this isn't something she could stitch up. "That curse she's under. It's one of the most powerful spells I ever seen." Her family came from a long line of gypsy clans, many generations of magical women. "My great grandma, she seen curses like this before. The more powerful the witch, the faster she'll die."
Piper closed her eyes. Paige was tearing up.
"Is there anything we can do?" Paige felt so helpless.
"Gabriel." Piper wanted to slap herself. "He has no affliction with Heaven. He's an archangel. His power alone could send Bo here."
Ava nodded.
"He's the key. Help Bo, and Phoebe will be healed. Hurry, she doesn't have much time." Phoebe was getting weaker.
"This is the Men of Letters Base? Kinda small." The stories she heard, and seen on 'Supernatural.'
"Probably why it was never in any records. Cole?" Piper called out.
Cole shimmered in.
"Piper! Paige! Good to see you!" Cole was looking behind him. "Where's Phoebe? If I known you were coming, I would have made extras." Cole was wearing a apron. "I'm cooking some chicken."
"This isn't a social call." Piper said in a cool tone.
"Where's Gabriel?" Paige saw Cole's eyes look down.
"He's very sick."
"We need to see him." Phoebe's time was running out.
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"And why not? What are you hiding?" Piper knew it was a mistake to trust Cole.
"See for yourself. But, I warn you. You won't like what you see."
Bobby was standing in front of a door. The neighbourhood was nice, perfect for a single mom. He was nervous when he rang the doorbell.
"Hello Lynn." Bobby was holding on to a bouquet of fresh orchids. "I thought you would like these." He dropped the flowers when Lynn set them on fire.
"Go to hell." She slammed the door in his face.
"I deserve that." Bobby regretted that night everyday. He rang the doorbell again. "Lynn! This isn't a personal call! I need help! I can pay you!" He was nervous when the door opened.
"What do you want?"
Bobby swallowed. His ex was holding on to a fireball.
"I need to travel back in time."
"Really Dean?" He should have known. Dean came back with clothing from his favorite western store. "I'm fine."
"The hell you are." He hands Sam a bag. "We have to dress like the locals. Not look like a spaceman."
Dean was excited to dress up, it was his chance to be a real cowboy.
"Just because you are obsessed..."
"You Sam, would be more interesting if you watch old movies. There are books dedicated to westerns."
"Just because you can recite every Clint Eastwood movie ever made. Especially the monkey movie..."
"His name is Clyde. At least pick a shirt."
"Bobby, how did it go?" Sam was desperate to change the subject, before Dean recites Dirty Harry word for word.
"Got want we needed. But we have a time limit." Bobby didn't want to forget Lynn's face. How he broke her heart all those years ago. "Twenty four hours, not a second more. Here." He hands them a bag full of gold. "Plastic and paper won't get you far."
"Thanks Bobby." Dean was already dressed up. He couldn't wait to see the Old West.
"What do we do?" Sam was wearing a shirt, a fancy looking one with yellow flowers. He felt so stupid. He looked over at Dean who was wearing a blanket and cowboy boots. "Nice blanket."
"It's a sarape. Never mind. Bobby, how do we do this?" Dean was dressed like Clint Eastwood from his favorite cowboy movie.
Bobby was holding on to a paper.
"This will send you back, but you only have so much time. Grab the ashes and leave."
"What's so important about those ashes?" Dean asked. "Shouldn't we save Phoebe instead?" He wondered if that email had something to do with her.
"Oh god." Paige was horrified.
"What did you do to him?" Piper demanded.
Cole sighed.
"It wasn't me this time. You been to that facility. Gabriel, I don't know what happened, but those scientists didn't do this."
Gabriel was sitting in the corner, with his arms and legs close to him. His head was down, and he was almost comatose.
"Don't." Cole held his arm out. "He's very sick. I don't want to traumatize him any more than he already is."
Piper just stared at him with sympathy. Paige was frozen in horror.
"I was going to ask for help, but." She looked up at Cole. "May I?"
"Just for a second. Gabriel? Supper will be ready soon."
Gabriel didn't move.
"Don't overwhelm him." He warned. Piper nodded.
"Gabriel? It's Piper Halliwell. You probably don't remember me, but you used to be friends with us." Piper knelt down in front of him.
Nothing.
"Piper, I don't think this is a good idea." Paige says from outside the room.
"I know. Gabriel? We need your help. Our sister, she's dying. Phoebe, she's under a curse."
"Phoebe? What's going on? Is she in danger?"
"None of your business." Paige snapped.
"Gabriel? We need to free Phoebe from a curse. You're the only one powerful enough to do it."
Gabriel didn't move.
"That's enough." Cole ordered.
"But..."
"He's right."
"Paige?"
"He obviously can't help."
"I know." Piper knew it. Gabriel was too weak.
"But I can. You said Phoebe's name. Whatever she needs, I'll be there."
"Fine." Beggers can't be choosers.
"What do you need me to do."
"Will you be okay by yourself?" Cole asked Paige to 'babysit.' Piper and Paige hated involving Cole, but they needed his help.
"How hard can taking care of a archangel be?" She says to Cole. "I'll finish cooking, then I'll clean up afterwards."
"Don't overwhelm him. Poor man been through a lot." Cole was ready to go. He knew how to get back in time, as a Avatar, he had more power than anyone.
"Okay. Paige, Dad's will be on the phone. He'll keep you updated with Phoebe's progress."
"Good luck out there. Oh, and Piper?"
"Yeah?"
"Remember your baby. It's not just you and Phoebe I'm worried about."
"I know." Piper nodded at Cole.
"We only have a few hours. At midnight, the curse resets."
"Then Phoebe dies." Piper was carrying a pocket watch.
"Nice watch! Where did you get that?" Cole was admiring it.
"Found it in your kitchen drawer." Piper dug around earlier for a demon killing blade or even a spell. She didn't trust Cole at all. She froze time to do it. Good thing Cole wasn't immune to her powers.
"Hmph. Time it. The sooner we get out of there, the sooner Phoebe will be saved." Cole nods at Paige.
"This bunker is well warded, no demon or angel can get in."
"Then how did you get in?" Paige mocked.
"Forget that! Let's go!" They shimmer away.
April 22, 1873
"Whoa." Piper was in awe. There were people walking around in old fashioned clothes. "It worked."
"Like I said, I'm a Avatar."
"Plus a demon...Ah!" She jumped hearing a gunshot.
Cole grabs Piper away and shields her against the wall.
"Don't stress yourself out. Remember your baby."
Piper gives him a dirty look. She shoves him back.
"Welcome to the Wild Wild West." Cole smiled.
Sunrise, Wyoming March 4 1861
The sun was just raising when Sam and Dean found themselves standing in outside of town.
"Where do we start?" Sam was looking around, the town was really quiet and empty.
"Find Samuel Colt." Dean was giddy with excitement. He was in the Old West!
Sam sets his watch.
"We have exactly twenty fours hours." Sam was the trusted to carry the spell, as a witch he was the one familiar with magic.
"We should hit the saloon, chat with the locals." The loud rowdy music, bar fights, cute saloon girls, Dean's fantasy was coming true.
"Sure Sundance." Sam teased. Dean was such a fanboy.
"Do we think we have time to play poker?"
"With what?" Sam swore when he stepped in a pile of horse shit.
Dean chuckles.
"You know what I just stepped in?" Sam was trying to wipe off his boots.
"Authenticity." It was way too early to go into town, so they went to the nearest boarding house to find a place to crash for a few hours.
Interval, California
Jaunty piano music was playing, a saloon girl was leading one of her clients upstairs, in a corner was some men playing poker. Cole looks around with slight awe.
"Talk about authentic." It was just like the movies. "I don't know why you couldn't wear that pretty red dress." Both were wearing cowboy gear, Piper stole hers from a clothes line, Cole from some dead guy.
"And be mistaken for a prostitute? I don't think so." Dean would love this place.
"What'll it be?" When they walk up to the bar.
"Two whiskeys." Cole held up two fingers. "And leave the bottle."
"Make it one. I don't drink. But get me a juice." She gave Cole a dirty look. "I'm pregnant, remember?"
"Sorry, I forgot." He downs his whiskey. "Ah! That hits the spot." He pours another one. Whiskey was good, although kinda strong.
"Passing through?"
"Maybe." Cole liked this bar, reminded him of the movies.
"There's nothing here. If you're looking for work, there is plenty of jobs in San Francisco. Most folks already left. They're the smart ones if you ask me." He wipes the bar with his cloth.
"What am I, chopped liver? What do you mean by that?" Piper may be a woman, but she hated being ignored.
"Nothing to worry your pretty little head about." The bartender finishes cleaning and waves to one of the saloon women who was giving Cole a sultry look.
"If you want company, Kaia is free."
"How's it going Cowboy? Passing through? It is rude to leave without saying hello." A cute blonde says sashaying up to Cole.
"Piper, you'll be okay for awhile, right?" He was smiling at her. She was a shapeshifter, Cole could see that, but he didn't care.
"We have a mission."
"Check your watch. It doesn't happen till sundown." He allows her to take him away.
Piper watches in disgust as Cole and the prostitute walk upstairs. She was giggling as Cole was saying something to her.
'Check my watch. Whatever Cole.' Huh? The watch said they were a day early. But that's what didn't confuse Piper, it was the year. It said 1873. "What kind of watch is this?" She said out loud. She didn't set the day, or year. Just the time.
"A nice one." The bartender was admiring it. "That will be fifty cents for the whiskey and juice, and three dollars for the company."
"Put it on his tab." A day. That should give her enough time to find Bo. Hopefully Phoebe was alright.
Sunrise, Wyoming 1861
Sam and Dean walk up to the town square. Both were rested, although sore from the cheap beds they slept in. They walk up with curiosity to the crowd who were gathering around.
"We stand here today, March 4, 1861 to execute justice to Elias Finch. Found guilty for murdering his own wife." Judge Mortimer reads out loud from the scroll.
"Talk about authenticity." The guy was getting executed by hanging. Sam sent a prayer to him, even though he was a murderer.
"Sentence carried by myself, Sheriff Tye Mortimer, duly appointed judge of the Wyoming Circuit. Death by hanging till you die. Any last words?"
Elias stares coldly at the judge.
"You will all burn."
Sam and Dean flinch as they watch Elias drop. Especially when they hear his neck bones breaking.
"May The Lord lead him to His Loving Light." A priest says from the crowd watching.
"Wow." Dean turned away. He killed monsters, and defended himself from people, but seeing someone die, he had to push down his nausea. "Good times. So where do we find Samuel Colt?"
Sam points to the Judge and Sheriff walking down the hanging platform.
"We could ask them."
"Nice blanket." A old man smirks when he looked at Dean."
Dean takes off his sarape with a frown.
"Let's just get this over with."
Cole gasps as his "date" climbs off.
"That...was...amazing."
"Glad you enjoyed yourself. You can pay your tab at the bar, tip not included." The shapeshifter was in the visage as his ex wife Phoebe. "I don't understand why you covered yourself with that, whatever that was."
"Safe sex is always smart." Cole was glad he carried a condom. He always carried one, just in case Phoebe decided to come back. He was determined to make things right with her.
"That girl downstairs. Your wife?"
"Sister."
"Okay. So what are you?"
"Demon. Was. Not anymore." Cole had no idea who he was now. Born a half demon with a demonic mother and a human father, he had no idea what made them fall in love. He was raised by his mother, Elizabeth, but had no idea who Benjamin was. He did care about his father, he just wished he knew what happened to him after he died. Then a century later became a Avatar, now a mercenary.
"Ex-demon huh? I don't judge. I been smart, keeping low. Not like my fellow shapeshifters." She gets out of bed. "Things are getting pretty bad around here, that's why I'm leaving in the evening. The wagon is taking me to the city." She puts on her clothes and shifts back to her blonde visage. "If you're smart, take James advice and leave town."
"Kaia, your appointment is here!" The bartender yells from downstairs.
"Nice meeting you. If you excuse me, I have a date." She walks out and closes the door.
Knock, knock.
"You had your fun, let's go!" Piper's impatient voice yells out from the other side.
"Be right there!" Kaia was fun, but she wasn't Phoebe. Oh well, it was fun to pretend.
The three men stare at the two strangers standing in the jail house.
"May we help you boys?" Judge Mortimer asks.
"Howdy." Dean tips his hat. "Name's Eastwood. Clint Eastwood, US Marshal. This is Walker, he's a Texas Ranger."
"We're looking for a man."
"I bet. Nice shirt." The Sheriff smirks at Dean.
"What's wrong with my shirt?" Dean looked down at himself.
"It's very clean."
Sam tried not to smile.
"I have a wife...Never mind. We're looking for Samuel Colt?" What's wrong with his outfit? All day everyone kept smiling at Dean.
"The gun maker? Hadn't seen him for a long time." The Sheriff tells Dean. You can try asking over at the saloon. Elkins, he's been around longer than God."
"Thank you." Sam nods at them as they leave. "Walker? Really Dean?" Once they were outside.
"You look good in a cowboy hat. Although I'm not sure the short hair suits you or not." Dean was so looking forward to seeing the saloon. "Lets head to town."
"Any ideas?" Piper was drinking another juice, although she was getting hungry. "We're here a day early." The saloon was starting to fill up with loud customers.
"You need a room. Plus some food." Cole waves the bartender over. "Is there a inn to stay for the night?"
"We have Miss Agatha's. It's down yonder, past the blacksmith."
"Thanks." Cole puts down a ten. "Keep the change."
'Why thank you! Have a good evening."
"Good night to you too!" Piper didn't think it was this bad for women.
"Lay low remember?"
Piper had to bite back a retort.
"Where did you get that ten? You know what, never mind." Cole most likely stolen it, or made a fake.
"Don't worry your pretty little head about it." Cole teased. "Go get some rest, I'm gonna check around town, see where Bo is at."
"Fine." Every second here, Phoebe was in trouble. "Give me some cash, I'll get us some rooms." Once Cole gave her his wallet, Piper walked away.
Cole was looking around, seeing if he could find Bo. Spying a Native American woman, he goes over to her.
"Howdy Miss. I was wondering if you know someone."
"Depends on who's asking."
"Names Benjamin." Cole lied. "I'm a traveler from far away."
"You're lying. When a white man acts charming, he wants something." She gives Cole a cool look.
"Believe me, the truth is nothing you can't handle."
Isabel stares at him back.
"What do you want?"
Before Cole could answer, a man wearing black walked in. Almost immediately the saloon went silent.
"Eve...Evening, Mr Sutter. Your usual?"
Cole watches as the Sutter walks to the bar. Almost every patron rushed out of the way when he came close.
"And for everyone here, I'm buying."
"Bastard." Isabel muttered under her breath.
Cole had to admire her. She didn't flinch or back down when Sutter walked up to her.
"You have something to say?" The entire bar was completely silent now, even the outside was quiet.
Isabel stared straight into his eyes.
"I'm not afraid of you. If you excuse me, it is getting late." She downs the drink she had in front of her. "Have a good night."
"I'll walk you out." Cole tips his hat at Sutter. "You have a good night now." He smiles at one of Sutter's men who was glaring at him.
Once they leave, they hear the bar laughing and drinking again, the saloon music echoing as they walk away.
"I don't need your protection." Isabel was walking home.
"What kind of man would I be, if I let a lady walk by herself. My father was a gentleman, as am I."
Isabel was silent, but she did appreciate the company. Truth was, she was scared of Sutter, same with everyone else.
"A long way huh? Why here, not San Francisco, or even down south. There's no money here. If you're looking for gold, the Mexican border has some mines. If you are looking for oil, Arizona has some untapped veins." Seeing her shivering, Cole takes off his coat.
"May I?" He knew how sensitive women were about equality and consent. "Someone I care about is very ill. We came here to prevent her from dying." He hoped Phoebe was okay.
"There's Dr Richards, but I don't think you came here with her." She stopped and looked at Cole. "You are here because of Bo. He told me two strangers would come."
"She's at Miss Agatha's. We'll tell you more there."
"Not yet." Isabel shook her head. "Tomorrow. Bo's visions, they must play out like he saw. Meet me at the saloon tomorrow. There, I'll tell you more."
"Okay." Cole was disappointed. But he knew he cannot change the past too much. "At least let me walk you to your home."
Sunrise 1861
Dean's smile fell when he opened the saloon doors. Where was the piano player? The rowdy bar patrons? The pretty girls?
"This is not awesome."
Sam pats him on the shoulder.
"Hi."
"What will it be?" Bartender Elkins asks the two strangers.
"I'll take your top shelf whiskey, and he'll have a sarsaparilla." Dean orders. So far nothing was what he expected.
"I only have the one shelf." Elkins deadpans.
"Then I'll take that one."
Elkins pours the drinks.
"You Elkins?" Sam thanked him after he pours his drink.
"The one and only." He hands Dean his whiskey.
"You heard of Samuel Colt?" Dean asked. He looked at the patrons of the bar behind him. A old man was snoring as he held his empty glass, while two saloon girls were smiling at Sam and Dean.
"Been four years since he passed through here." Elkins said in a bored voice. "Last I heard he was building a railroad in the middle of nowhere, twenty miles from here by Postal Road."
"Devil's Gate?" Sam whispered.
"Location fits." Dean whispered back.
"Howdy boys." A woman's voice says in a seductive tone. When Dean turned around, he recoiled at the sight at the woman leaning close to him.
"Darla's my best girl." Elkins tells them.
"You wanna try me?" She drawls. "How 'bout a kiss."
Dean was majorly grossed out. Darla had brown teeth, bad breath, and what looked like a bad case of herpes on her face. He leaned back, trying to avoid getting touched. He saw Sam trying to stifle a laugh. Dean was about to tell her he had a wife when they got interrupted.
"Darla."
"Ah. Judge." She turns around, trying to hold back her disappointment. "Good to see you."
"Thought we had a date." He points upstairs. Darla nods. She winks at Dean as they walk upstairs.
Dean breaths a sigh of relief.
"That was a close one." He was so showering with sanitizer when he gets home. "Ugh!" He spit out the whiskey. "It's like gasoline!"
"Sarsaparilla isn't that half bad." He felt bad for his brother. He just hoped Piper was okay, she was very worried about Phoebe.
Darla sighs as Judge Mortimer kisses her neck on the bed. She didn't mind the judge, he was a good tipper. Her fellow coworkers all clamored for the chance to have the judge as their date. Although her friend Greta saw the Sheriff more. She closed her eyes, pretending the judge was that handsome cowboy downstairs. Hearing a noise, she turns her head and gasps.
Judge Mortimer turns his head to see why Darla scrambled away. When he saw who was standing in front of him, he gasped. He didn't have time to react before he got burned alive.
Sam and Dean were sitting silently when they heard screams. They both rush upstairs to see a frightened Darla standing in the corner, trying not to cry. When they smelled burning flesh, they looked at the bed. A charred skeleton was smoking, half turned to ash.
Present Day
"How's Phoebe?" She was no longer bleeding out, Dr Nichole managed to stop the bleeding.
"She is sleeping." Victor was wiping her head with a cool cloth. "Paige, this supernatural stuff. Is it worth it?" He was disappointed that they turned down that angel's offer to have a normal life.
"We ask ourselves that everyday." Paige loved being a witch, it was exciting. But being who they were, it cost them big. She looked at Phoebe. "It's not that much better being mortal, believe me."
Victor didn't say a word. It costs him his marriage, Patty ran off with her whitelighter. Then her life. He sighed and got up.
"I'm getting a coffee. You want one?"
"No thanks. Cafeteria is closed, but the machines make good java." Once Victor left, Paige prayed to Piper.
'Please be careful. Phoebe needs you.'
Back in Sioux Falls, Bobby was absently watching Star Trek when the phone rang.
"Hello?" It was his personal phone, only his closet friends knew it.
"You let Dean go!"
"Cas, how's it going?" Castiel, if it wasn't Sam, it was his angelic friend that worried about Dean.
"You didn't answer my question! You know how dangerous time travel is?!"
"Those idgits know what they are doing." Bobby hoped so. He remembered Sam's story about waking up from a frozen box.
"How long do they have?!"
"First of all, stop yelling. I'm not deaf. And two, Sam has the spell to return. They have." Bobby checks his watch. "Twelve hours."
Castiel sighs.
"I'm going to pray for them. My friend, he'll bring them home if anything goes wrong."
"They'll be fine. I known them since they were kids." Bobby remembered the first time he met John. Thought he was an asshole. Always leaving them alone to chase a ghost. Bobby tried to step up in a fatherly role to those small boys. Loved them as his own.
"Okay. But they aren't the only ones I'm worried about." Once Castiel filled Bobby in, Bobby was rubbing his forehead. "She's just like her husband." Working with a demon, blindly getting into danger. "I'll let Sam know when she gets back. Have a good night." Once he got up, he went to have a stiff drink. "Be careful. All of you." It wasn't just Sam, Dean, and Piper he was worried about, it was his unborn grandchild. He went to check out the Internet, see how baby Laura was doing.
Sheriff Tye was shaking his head. Darla's story was insane.
"I'm telling you! It was a ghost! Elias Finch was here! He killed him!" Darla couldn't believe he was alive. She seen his body getting taken down by the Deputy and the Sheriff.
"Ghosts don't leave footprints." There was dirty footprints leading out to the windows.
"Elias Finch. He did, something. Now the Judge is dead!" She didn't know to feel relieved or horrified. He was always so possessive of her, always scaring off new customers.
"Rope didn't kill him. Seen it before." He was buried, but knowing Elias, he had friends. "Don't you worry, well track him down, form a posse." He points to Sam and Dean. "Ranger, Marshal. Meet me at the jails at dawn. We'll flush him out, string him up good, and put a bullet in him for good measure."
"Sounds good to me." A old fashioned hunt? Dean was so in.
"Plus get some proper gear." Clothes were fancy, but not suitable.
"You thinking what I'm thinking?"
Sam nods.
"We need to pay our respect to Mr Finch." They nod to Darla when they leave.
Darla had to leave town. This place was too haunted.
Piper was downstairs eating some stew when she got approached by the owner, Miss Agatha.
"Would you like more juice?"
"I'm good thank you." Piper was stuffed. Stew was good, everything was homemade, including the bread.
"What brings you to town?"
"Business."
"Business huh? I personally wouldn't, it's bad juju around here. I suggest you leave as early as dawn."
"I keep hearing the name Sutter. What's that about?" Immediately Piper saw the dining room go silent. "Did I say anything wrong?" The entire time she and Cole were here, the name Sutter kept getting whispered. Especially at the saloon. Everyone was talking in hush tones about Sutter, how he ran everything.
Miss Agatha looked around and leaned close to her face.
"Sutter's a dangerous man. He runs things around here, those that cross him are never seen again." She whispered. "Please, leave as early as you can." She takes Piper's dishes. "Room and board are on the house, I already have your room ready."
Piper saw how everyone looked uneasy. As tempting as it was to take care of Sutter, she knew she had to let the events take place, otherwise the future can be be affected, including Phoebe's. She thanked the owner for the meal and went upstairs. She was tired anyways, her baby was wearing her out.
Present Day
Paige was walking around the old ghost town, trying to find anything to help Phoebe. She wasn't alone, Castiel went to join her. She had no choice but to leave Gabriel behind, but had Dr Roberts check him out for the time being.
"I'm surprised to see you here." While she was sitting with Phoebe, her and Victor were startled when Castiel stormed in Phoebe's room.
"What are you doing?!" Victor was understandably pissed off and told the former angel to be quiet.
"Shh! My daughter is sleeping! Have some compassion!" He angrily whispered.
"I'll take care of this." She shoves Castiel out of the room. "Are you outta your mind? My sister is dying! The hell's wrong with you!"
"Why didn't you tell me!" He demanded.
"Uh, maybe because it wasn't your business?"
"Time travel? You know the repercussions of this? You could collapse the time/space continuum! Didn't your whitelighter teach you anything?"
Paige threw her hands on her hips.
"We had no choice! My sister, she's under a curse!" She pulls Cas in a empty room for privacy. "She's dying, and there's nothing we can do. Cas, is there anyway she can be healed? You sent Dean back in time before."
"Wasn't easy. My vessel's nose bled for a long time. As an angel, I slept for three days." He shook his head. "It isn't just your sister I'm worried about, Sam and Dean went back themselves."
"They what?" Now Paige was confused. "All Piper told them that Phoebe was sick. They went to find something that will help." She closed her eyes. "Dummies."
"Did Gabriel do this?" Paige kept Cas in the loop, since she wanted to make sure Cas was running this place well. Dean never talked to Castiel that much anymore, Castiel figured that Dean was busy with his family.
"No, Cole went with Piper."
"The abomination?"
"Spare me the lectures. I'm half whitelighter. Yes he did. Gabriel is too weak. It was the only way to save Phoebe."
Cas felt his vessel getting a migraine.
"I'm gonna get some aspirin."
"I left a bottle in my old office, bottom drawer. Meet me at my car, we're gonna take a drive." Paige didn't want to use any magic, she was afraid to affect any magic that was lingering around.
After reaching their destination, both were walking around the dead town.
"You're the angel."
"Former angel. I fell, remember?"
"Yea. Tell me, why is this town under a time loop. Why didn't Heaven fix it? I thought Fate ran things."
"Mostly. As for Fate, they prefer to work alone, my siblings, the other angels, they don't like humans that much. They mostly don't care what happens down here, not even magic."
"You didn't answer my question."
"I suggest you look, your question will soon be answered."
Paige threw up her hands. Cas, he acted more like an angel than a human.
"So where do we start?" She looks at every building. "There! She points to a abandoned building. The saloon. Everything happens at the saloon."
Above, a crow silently watches.
"Ugh! It's so gross in here!" Paige sneezes.
"Bless you." Castiel absentmindedly said. He just got a text from Jenna, her asking why Dean hasn't answered her calls. "It's dirty, so be careful. I can't heal you for a infection."
"I'll remember that." Paige looks around, seeing anything that might stick out. "Nerve Tonic. Should being this to Victor, help calm his nerves." She puts the old empty bottle down.
"You see anything that catches your eye?" He was debating on telling her where, no, when Dean was. He worried about her, especially after she had her baby.
"Hmmm." She looked down and across. Then suddenly, a ray of sunshine shines on a table by the window. Paige picks it up.
The Star Gazette
April 25, 1873
Half-Breed To Die At Sundown
"Well that's racist." Paige hated racists. It was bad enough to be looked down as a half-whitlighter/witch. Being someone who can't help who they were, society barely changed since then. ''Bo Lightfeather, set to be executed? Cas, Phoebe won't last till midnight. Let's go back."
The crow that was sitting on the saloon squawks as they drove away.
Phoebe was deep in pain, her wound was getting worse. Dr Nichole was warning Victor to be prepared.
"What do you mean my daughter isn't getting better?! You're a doctor!"
"I'm doing my best, but this isn't something I can fix! I want to put her in emergency surgery, but with her condition, it's too dangerous!" She walks over to Phoebe. "Oh no." She looks at Phoebe's wound. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I got shot." Phoebe joked. "I'm getting cold." She was sweating and shivering.
"She's losing a lot of blood. I'm going to give her some blood transfusions, but I doubt it'll do anything." Ava sighed. "Phoebe, hang on. Please."
"I'll. I'll try. Daddy, can I have some water?"
"Sure Princess." Victor gets up and pours her a cup. "Drink slowly." Victor felt so helpless. 'Hurry Piper, your sister needs you.' Where was Sam? He was a witch, he could help Phoebe.
"Rose up from the ashes, burned up its victim? Maybe our flaming bird isn't a bird, but a man wearing cowboy boots." Dean was looking at a empty grave covered in ash. It was after midnight, according to the watch Dean had.
"You think the Gun will kill it?" Sam was thinking the same thing Dean was. "No one here knows much about Samuel."
"Then make history. The journal says the Colt was here. Go find Colt, and I'll stay here with the posse. Because I'm a posse magnet. And I do love my posse."
"You done?" Dean always trying to prove things. Especially with the folks in town. "How would I find Samuel?"
Dean looks over to where a horse handler was at.
"Have fun!" He waves at Sam as he rode away.
Sam was desperately trying not to fall off, he hadn't rode a animal since he was a child.
"Hey, this isn't that bad!" Sam calls out as he rode off. As for Dean, he thanks the guy after trading Bobby's gold watch for two horses and gear. Dean was debating on riding a horse, but since he was finally in the right period clothes, he might as well go for it. He gets on his own horse to meet up with the Sheriff. "I'll see you at eleven!''
"That poor horse. Hey girl." The horse neighs. "Want to take a ride? Whoa. Whoa. This is my first time." Once Dean gets on, he and the horse silently ride away.
The Sheriff was getting his gear ready. It was late, but he had a job to do.
The horse that was standing silently starts screaming. It sensed something unnatural and runs off in fear.
The Sheriff was wondering why the horse was so spooked. When he saw who was coming out of the shadows, he took out his gun and shot the intruder to no avail.
Elias gives the Sheriff a chilly smile.
"I'm so sorry! Forgive me!" The Sheriff begs. Elias, his ghost was alive. He didn't have time to scream before he was burned alive.
"Tell that to your Maker. Say hi to the Judge."
One more. One more monster to kill. The one that took away his wife. Elias walked away. He had a few hours, might as well wait.
Cole was having a drink in the saloon when Piper walked in.
"You're late."
"What time is it?" Piper barely slept, she had nightmares all night.
"Afternoon?"
"Great." It was now April 25. "Any news about Bo?"
"Yep. Gotta lot to tell you."
Cole overheard some gossip when he dropped off Isabel. Wanting to know why everyone was so jumpy, he asked Isabel what was going on.
"He arrived last year, the same time Bo, my mother and myself arrived. At the time we didn't think much of it, he was just another man." She sighed. "It didn't take long before he started making promises. This town, it is dying. The mines around here, they didn't find any gold. The town folk, most were leaving in droves. The ones that stayed behind, they refused to leave, they were hoping things turned around. Sutter, the man you met in the saloon, told everyone he can put a railroad in. A railroad, it can bring tourists. But he had a speculation clause. He wanted full control of everything. The bank, the small businesses, everything."
"Smart." Cole would have done the same thing.
"For a criminal. At first the Mayor agreed. The town was going bankrupt. Sutter agreed to pay off its debts. Once he took control, things went bad. He brought in his men after the Sheriff died. After the Mayor retired, he appointed Sutter his position. Then..." Isabel teared up. "Everything went to shit. Pardon my tongue." She sat down on a swing outside a ramshackle house. "Sit." She gestured to Cole. Once he sat down, she told her story. "Sutter didn't take long before he started terrorizing everyone. He didn't just demand taxes, he sent his men to collect special fees."
"Like what?" Cole was a former demon, and seen and done many bad things, but he wanted to hear how a ordinary human could have so much power.
"You know, roads, food, our liquor, even our horses. We had to pay all sort of taxes. It got very expensive to live here, most left after the first month."
"Then why did you stay? You and your family could have moved."
"I wanted to, believe me. But I had friends. Besides my mother, she got sick. She was always so sickly, especially after my father died. Bo and I, we had to step up to take care of her. She didn't want to leave, saying if it was her time, she wanted to die here. This town, this is where they met." She looked behind her. "When she was pregnant with Bo, they moved east to Wyoming. My father, Soaring Crow, he was a hunter."
"A hunter?"
"You, your friend. I'm sure I don't need to explain what that is."
"Go on."
"My father, he was best friends with Samuel Colt."
"The gun maker?" The Colt. Every demon knew what the Colt was.
"Mmm hmm. He moved east to get away from the demons that came to California. The Gold Rush, it attracts evil and greed. My parents wanted us away from it. Too bad evil is everywhere."
"Yep."
"My father, he was helping Samuel build plans for a railroad."
"The Devils Gate."
"So you heard of it."
''What hunter hasn't?" Cole was no hunter, but remembered his mother trying to use Cole to cross it since he was half human. Didn't work, a young Cole cried when he was burned. Elizabeth, his demonic mother slapped him hard. Calling him weak. From that day on, Cole never shed a tear. Except around Phoebe, who never judged him.
"My father, he was on hunt to stop a crossroads demon. A demon whore named Elizabeth."
"Elizabeth?" Cole wondered if that was his mother. She used to be a crossroads demon.
"Demons." Isabel said in disgust. "My father hated them, it was them that wiped out half our people. He died. Murdered in cold blood. It was Samuel that found him." Isabel teared up. "I was only a baby. But Bo, he had the visions. My father, he was a medicine man. After he died, Bo said he rose after his corpse was burned and flew away. Crying that justice will be prevailed."
"A bird?" A phoenix? Cole only heard rumors. Only one generation is allowed to exist. Most with the blood have ordinary lives. There was the Phoenix Witches, but they were just followers. "Your father, what did he turn into?"
"A crow. In our culture, when a leader dies, it gets reincarnated as a spirit guide. They watch over the next generation, making sure that their destiny is fulfilled. Bo, he said two strangers will come to right that's been wronged."
"Where's Bo now?"
"Somewhere. He told me, that everything must be played out as he saw it. Including him. Tomorrow, meet with me, and I'll take you to him."
"So Bo is alive? Then that means Phoebe still is." Piper breathed a sigh of relief.
"I wouldn't relax just yet. While you were in slumberland, there was a gun fight. One of Sutter's men was killed with a knife. He shot Bo while he tried running."
Piper looked at her pocket watch.
"That was two hours ago. Phoebe." The exact time Phoebe saw her vision and collapsed. "Where's Bo?"
"I don't know. Isabel, she said to meet her. Whatever you do, let things happen. That was her exact instructions." When they saw Sutter walking in, both Piper and Cole had no choice but to watch history play out.
Present Day
"Phoebe?" Her breathing was getting shallow.
"She isn't.." Victor started crying. The doctor tried, but Phoebe wasn't responding to any of the treatments. "Please tell me you have good news."
"I wish I could tell you, but even Heaven doesn't know." Castiel felt so helpless. Dean was still away, Bobby didn't know if he was alright.
"Then we'll solve this ourselves." Paige leaned down to Phoebe's eyesight on the bed. "Honey, I need you to do a favor."
"I'm...dying." Phoebe died a few times, but this felt different than the others. Like she was experiencing another's death. She knew, if she died, she'll be lost forever.
"Don't say that. Paige. Hurry."
"I need you to send a message. Show Bo, show the exact moment of his death. That way, we can break the curse."
"I don't...don't...know..." Phoebe gasped. She had maybe a hour left.
"Please." Paige hands her the newspaper. "Show him. Your minds are linked."
Phoebe was breathing hard. She forced herself to concentrate.
Dean was staring at the ashes.
"Dammit." Probably happened last night. "Who's in charge now?"
"Congrats." Elkins pinned the former Sheriff's gold star badge on Dean's breast pocket. "Good luck chasing that ghost."
Samuel Colt walks in after burying the two corpses. Demons, they never learn. He goes to finish writing in his journal, the only thing he wants to do before he goes back to finish that damned railroad. He opened his bottle of moonshine, the only thing that kept him sane.
Two demons came here, demanding that I open the Gate. Ha! I'm nearly done, I just have to place the finishing touches. He takes a sip. Phew. I'm not even close to old age, but feel close to eighty. I came here because of a dream, no. Samuel crossed that out. Because of what Soaring Crow said. That a Great Evil is coming. Something worse than Hell. He pours another drink. I don't know what he meant, but he's never been wrong about anything. My Friend, whatever you are, rest.
The former Deputy was packing his bags when Dean strolls in his room.
"How did you get in here?" He demanded.
"People can be bribed so easily." Dean flashes his badge. "Meet your new boss."
The Deputy tosses his badge on the floor.
"Find a new sucker. I quit."
"Leaving town?"
''My sister, she's sick."
"Really? What a coincidence. So is mine." Dean walks over to him.
"What do you want?" He asked the stranger.
"You want him dead, then come with me."
Sam splutters as he gets splashed.
"I'm not a demon! Ah! Or a monster." He was holding his cut hand. "I'm a hunter!"
"Bull."
"It's true." Sam pulls out his phone. "I'm from the future. Here."
"Just like he said." Samuel muttered. He takes the phone and places it behind him.
"Excuse me?" Sam was confused.
"Nothing. You came here for this." Samuel pulls out his gun.
"You were expecting me? Did Kyra tell you?" Sam saw how his expression changed.
"Kyra? She's dead." His mom. She died when Samuel was very young.
"Long story."
"Don't know why you came, and I don't care. Take the Gun and walk away. Whatever your mission is, I don't want to know."
"The Phoenix. Your journal said you killed it."
"Don't believe everything you read son." He puts the Colt down on the table. "You have less than an hour. Get going."
Sam just stares at him.
"Thank you."
Once he left, Samuel picks up his quill pen.
Like you said, a Giant from the future came with his magic brick. Guess I have to head to town, they need those ashes. Samuel sighs.
Samuel puts down his pen. Then after putting on his hat, he sits down again.
March 5, 1861
I'm going to finish what I started, that railroad, it won't build itself.
Present Day
Bobby was pacing back and forth, dammit! They were cutting it close.
"Hurry Sam." They had less than an hour.
Dean was staring at Elias.
"Catch." As predicted, the iron nail burned. Elias flinched.
"A hunter?"
"And Sheriff." Dean retorts back. The hell was Sam.
"I don't care. It's him that I want. He took away something I loved."
"What, your golden nest?" Dean said sarcastically.
"My wife. It was only a few minutes. He had her pinned in the alley. She was screaming my name. You have a wife?" Elias saw his ring. "Bastard killed her. She died in my arms. She was human. A innocent."
Dean stares at the Deputy in disgust.
"Is that true?" Jenna. Dean thought about her. How she was taken away that time. How they were apart while she was in France, and again when he died.
"You would protect this filth? He's a monster. He always wanted her. She was always afraid." Elias's hands were glowing red.
"Like I care. But, this man deserves justice. Death is too easy." Dean was staring at the deputy who pissed his pants.
"You're right." He stares at him. "Make sure justice is served. That no women are afraid to walk the streets ever again." Elias looks at Dean. "Let the best man win."
Present Day
Bobby was staring helplessly at the clock.
"Two minutes. Hurry." Sam and Dean, they were cutting it close.
Elias and Dean were standing on a empty street, staring coldly at one another. A frightened woman watches from the window. Bartender Elkins was in his saloon, watching the events unfold.
Dean was holding the Colt. Sam didn't give him an explanation, just handed it to him.
The clock hits 11:59.
Both men open their coats.
Dean narrows his eyes. As does Elias.
Bong! Bong!
Both draw out their guns.
Elias had his finger on the trigger, but Dean was a quicker shot.
Bang!
Elias stares at the hole on his chest. He starts sparking.
'Well done.' Soaring Crow was right, it was time for the next generation to rise. He falls to the ground and turns into ashes.
The ashes! Before Dean could grab them, Sam finishes chanting before the clock strikes 12:01.
A lone crow squawks as they fade away.
Present Day
Dean swore when he found himself staring at Bobby's feet.
"That was a waste of time." So much for the email. "I'm calling home, make sure things are okay."
"Sorry Dean. I had no choice." Sam says in a apologetic tone.
Bobby was gonna ask what was going on when he heard someone knocking.
"I'll get that." Sam goes to answer it.
"Got a package for a Sam Winchester?" The box had Sam's name on it, dated March 5 1861.
"That's me." No way.
"Sign here." Once Sam signed it, the courier hands Sam the box. "Have a good day."
Sam takes the box to the living room.
"Is that..." Dean couldn't believe it.
Dear Sam, I got this address and date off your thingamajig, and I thought the enclosed might come in handy. Regards, Samuel Colt.
Sam opens the box. It had a bottle of ashes, along with a dirty, broken phone.
"Just how..." Bobby began. Sam's smartphone had a passcode.
"I don't know. Dean, what do we do with this?" Sam was holding on to the ashes.
"Wish I knew."
Chris smiles as he drove away. He had to return the truck before the company reported it stolen. Samuel wasn't the only one that knew about the future.
"Who are they?" Bo was staring up at the two strangers.
"Friends." Isabel, she didn't know who they were, but whatever it took to save her dying brother. "Your visions."
"I don't know what you are talking about." Bo gasped. He knew he was running out of time, the bullet was too deep.
"Isabel, she told us everything." Piper looked at Bo. "Cole?"
Cole shimmered in and out.
"I'll show you my powers, but I have no idea if they'll work in the past."
"See? Told you can trust me." Isabel tells Bo.
Bo stares at Cole.
"You, you are a abomination." Bo pulls out his knife.
"A Avatar. Former half-demon."
"Then leave." He knew what a Avatar was, they were abominations. Like the Phoenix.
"Ignore him. Look at me. You can trust me." Piper leaned down to Bo's level. "My sister. She is dying. Your death, it would affect more than you."
"Like father said in your dreams." Isabel tells Bo.
Bo shivered.
"Fine."
Sutter was sitting impatiently at the Mayor's office, waiting for news.
"That half-breed. He needs to die. He's been giving people too many ideas." This town. It had something Sutter wanted. "When that railroad comes, and mark my words it will, it will bring more fortunes then we ever dreamed of." He looked up when he saw Cal walk in. "You better have some good news."
"I know where he is." He was so glad he followed Isabel.
"You don't know if your magic will work." Cole warned Piper. "You may accidentally, you know." He didn't want a bloody mess.
"I have to try." Piper hoped her freezing power worked. Before she can freeze him, a bullet came flying out of Bo's wound. "What the..."
Bo screams in pain as the bullet flies out.
Present Day
Phoebe screams, she felt something flying out of her.
Both Timelines
Both Phoebe and Bo get a vision of Bo getting whipped by Sutter. Isabel is screaming, she is unable to help, as she is getting restrained by one of Bo's men. But is when he pulled out his gun and shoots Bo is when the vision ends. But not before the Crow watching squawks.
"I believe you." What Bo saw, his vision was coming true. His death, it will curse this town.
Present Day
Victor was holding his daughter as she screams hysterically.
"Sweetheart!" Victor was holding her as she screamed. "It's alright! You're safe with us!"
"Phoebe?" Paige felt so helpless. Castiel was watching in silence.
"I saw it! What they did to Bo! It was horrible!" Bo was murdered in cold blood, and no one helped. "Everyone, the whole town. They watched Bo die." Phoebe felt Bo's pain of betrayal.
Victor glares at Castiel.
"You angels." Victor was disgusted. "You let this happen." The stories he heard from Piper's brother in law. He always hated whitelighters, angels were worse.
"I..."
"Nevermind Cas!" Paige said with impatience. But now wasn't the time. "We have to trust Piper and Cole."
"I know Piper, she won't let Bo die. As for Cole, he loves me." Phoebe didn't love him, not anymore. But she trusted him.
Back at the church where Bo was hiding, Cole was trying to convince Piper to hide Bo.
"Look, we can get Bo out of here. That way Phoebe's life can be saved."
"Then the curse will never end. We'll be back at square one."
"You'll sacrifice Phoebe for a bunch of cowboys?" Cole was incredulous.
"Even if we get Bo out of here, the curse will still continue." Piper was trying to figure out how she got Prue's magic. Piper didn't have that magic. "We have to break it, once and for all."
Cole was about to argue back when they heard voices.
"Bo! We know you are in there! Come out with your hands up and no one gets hurt!" One of Sutter's men calls out.
"Then how we break it?" Cole asked.
"I don't know." Piper hoped Phoebe was safe. "Keeping you alive is the key."
Bo shook his head.
"No it isn't. It's the town. They have to stand up to Sutter. They watched me die. I'm surrendering."
"No!" Isabel was about to protest, till Bo shook his head.
"I understand now. What this curse is." Bo painfully gets up. "My father's people, it's meant to teach, and to act without shame. Have faith. Mother always taught as that."
Sutter's men watch as Bo walks out of the church. White doves scatter as Bo walks out.
"Will my brother be okay?" Isabel was getting led out by one of Sutter's men.
"Have faith. Your mother always taught you that." Piper repeated Bo's words. She and Cole were getting led away as well.
A while later, Bo was getting dragged behind a horse, led helplessly as Sutter's men drags him into town.
Sutter was holding on to a whip.
"See! See what happens when you cross me!" He shoves Bo on his belly.
Present Day
Phoebe was laying on the floor. She shook her head when Paige and Victor tried helping her up. Bo's fate, Phoebe had to let things play out.
Both Timelines
Bo and Phoebe felt the agonizing pain of getting hit. Although Phoebe screamed with each hit, Bo refused to.
"Scream you half-breed!" Sutter demanded. "You will beg for mercy!"
Bo silently begged everyone to do something.
"Do something!" Piper calls out to everyone. "Stand up for yourselves! Don't let an innocent man die!"
"If he dies, you're no better than him! Do what's right!" Cole yelled.
"This is the day you have your independence! Free yourselves!" Piper called out.
Sutter threw down his whip. This was taking too long. He takes out his gun.
"NOOO!" Isabel screams.
Bo could only watch. Then out of nowhere, Sutter's hand flies out of his hand.
"Leave him alone!" The saloon owner was holding a shotgun.
"You just signed your death warrant." Sutter aims his gun at the bartender instead. Then out of nowhere, everyone holds up their own guns.
"I think it is time you left town." Cal was holding up his own gun. He hated Sutter, he stabbed him in his hand, only because he was annoyed he couldn't find Bo.
Sutter was going to hold Isabel as a hostage, then decided against it. He silently jumps on his horse and rides away.
"We're letting him go?!" Cole was looking forward to shooting him.
"Fate has her ways." Piper felt her baby kicking. "My baby kicked." It was way too early, but she felt it. Phoebe, she's okay. "Lets go home. I want to see my family."
Present Day
"Where's Cole?" Phoebe was laying in bed, Dr Nichole ordered Phoebe to stay overnight. Phoebe was fine, she was completely healed. But listened to her orders anyways.
"He couldn't come. He may be an Avatar, but he couldn't get past the grounds." Piper was trying not to laugh as Cole was thrown across the parking lot. "The demon blood is still there. He went back to take care of Gabriel, he told us to tell you he's glad you're okay."
"And those people?" Victor asked. He was so glad to see Piper. He missed her.
Paige checked her phone.
"Huh. You changed history. Listen to this. April 23, 1874. Headlines say Sutter was jailed for his crimes, him and his men were convicted. He was hanged one year exactly to the day you were in."
Piper grimaced.
"And the town?"
"It burned down. Luckily there were no fatalities. A gas station sits there now, it is owned by the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe."
"Then how come we remember the old history?" Victor asked.
Piper shrugged.
"Try not to think about it. Phoebe, I love you, but I have a flight to catch." There was a red eyed flight, Piper wanted to go home. "Come visit sometimes."
"I will. Take care. Give Sam a big hug for me. And give a kiss to Laura." Phoebe loved that baby.
Interval Gas Station
"That will be forty five dollars. Thanks." Conner puts the money in the drawer.
"Conner, do you mind cleaning the men's? Someone had a accident."
"Sure thing Isabel." Conner picks up the mop and bucket and goes to clean.
"How's things Bel?" Bo was smiling at his sister when he walked in.
"Good. Cheyenne is doing well, she loves her nursing job." Isabel was so proud of her niece in law. "How's the hunt?"
"You know same old same old." Bo loved his life, he and his family owned the most successful gas station of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, as the only Phoenix alive, he was the only one that hunted with the other hunters, fighting evil. Isabel wanted to stay with her brother, when he showed her the future, she wanted to stay and fight. She too was a hunter, but laid low. Not many knew about her own immortality. "There is a nest of ghouls outside of town if you're interested." Bo would have come, but he needed to mediate. The Phoenix, they prayed to the Sun to stay alive.
"Sure. I have to stay sharp. Can't let my skills get rusty." Isabel wasn't a phoenix, only one lived each generation. "Are you glad the Mother is dead?" Eve hated the Phoenix, they weren't allowed to exist.
"She would have lived if she wasn't a killer. The new leader, what was her name?"
"Eleanor."
"She agreed to help. Right now she is getting her army ready in Purgatory. End times, they are coming closer." Bo saw it.
"We trained for over a hundred years, we kept ourselves strong."
"Lets hope so." The Third Sibling, It was truly a monster. Bo hated knowing what It Was.
"Bo?"
"Hmm?"
"Is it..."
"Hidden. Like it always will be. Sutter, he underestimated what it was."
"If he only knew." Isabel, she was surprised when she found out what Sutter was after. "I'm going shopping afterwards. Want to come?"
"Nah. I hate shopping. But have fun."
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
"You sure you don't want another beer?"
"Can't. Bianca has school tomorrow." Lynn puts down her empty bottle. "You came back."
"I wanted to apologize."
Lynn shook her head.
"All in the past." She hated Bobby for breaking her heart. But when she saw her dead husband's picture, made her realize things happen for a reason. "If you had stayed, I wouldn't have my husband or Bianca."
"You miss him?"
"Everyday." He was burned alive by a hunter. His burned skeleton found by the police. Her daughter was only a week old. "So what brings you here, for real?"
"I don't know." Bobby couldn't figure it out. "Missed you I guess."
"You guessed. You're such a liar."
"EXCUSE ME?"
"Don't lie to me. You never could fool me." Lynn remembered meeting Bobby back in college. "You were young, but were never able pull off the transfer student persona."
"Can't help that I was startled by a beautiful woman." Bobby blushed the first time he saw Lynn. That hair, those eyes. It was love at first sight. "I should have said I came from Knox."
"That I could have believed." She leans closer to Bobby. "I can never love you again."
"Fair enough." Bobby was disappointed.
"But other than my late husband, you were the best damned lover I ever had. Want to spend the night? Or even come see me whenever you are in the area?" She smirked at Bobby's red face.
"You mean a Friends with Benefits thing? Aren't we too old for that?"
"The End is coming. Might as well have fun."
Bobby saw her pink face.
"Just keep it quiet. I remember you were a screamer." He pulls her in his lap.
"So you delivered the package? Was Sam suspicious?"
"Nope. He and Dean must be confused about those ashes."
"Those ashes will be useful in the future. Phoenix ashes are deadly against all monsters. The Leviathans, they won't stand a chance."
"There will be only so many made. Save it for HIM."
"Good point. Bo, he and Isabel, they are good fighters. They saved Knox."
"Just lay low Bianca. We still have a lot of work to do."
"Night Chris."
"Goodnight."
A Crow flies down and sits outside of the Halliwell Manor, peeking in the window.
"Squawk!"
These women, they will suffer great pain.
Soaring Crow flew away, fading in the sun's rays.
