As they walked to the path close to her house Edward ceased in his movement, Bella stared at his back that was turned to her.

She heard Edward exhale, and he faced her,

"Bella we are leaving" Edward said, her eyes grew a bit she pressed her lips together not wanting to assume the worst and exhaled to collect herself.

" Hiking?" Bella asked confused, hoping that's what he meant, going to the meadows together,

her heart really hopes so but her body still shivers.

Edward just stares at her cold, " We're leaving Forks"

"But this soon?" Bella wonders, they haven't graduated yet.

there was another silence, but still kept her hopes up that this is not the end.

" I'll come with you then" Bella said, " If I can have a moment I'll pack"

With we I mean myself and my family" Edward said.

" I can't take you with me" Edward added.

Bella nodded, " You will come back soon right?"

Edward took a step back dismissive, trying to seem cold as possible.

" Bella, this is a goodbye, everyone already left but I stayed to tell you this" Edward said.

" No, but why? is it because of the party? If I had known I wouldn't have agreed to come, I know I've ruined so much that night but.." Bella seemed to hyperventilate.

" Can we please talk about this? I don't want to say goodbye I just can't imagine Forks without having you here" Bella said tearful.

Edward briefly looked to the ground, this was harder than he thought. he has to hurry before his hand reaches out to her and wipe her face from the distraught.

"You do realize that this day.. Edward paused, it was hard to look at her alarmed eyes, she knows what he's going to do but he has to remain as cold as he can.

Our departure is inevitable," Edward said.

"Do you?" Edward added when Bella didn't respond.

"Yes, I knew this day would come, Even back in Phoenix I knew.. when you said I should go to Florida you didn't offer to visit or write letters" Bella said.

"But I.. didn't expect that you would eliminate yourself like this.. including your whole family.. did I disrespected you?" Bella said.

"No" Edward said. "It's just that where I'm going is not the right place for you"

"I've let this go on for way too long, the scent of your blood, the inability to read your mind was the only thing that caught my interest" Edward said.

"I was fascinated by you, you weren't terrified that I'm a vampire.. but this game can't continue"

"At least not without hurting you , what happened that night pretty much made that clear." Edward said.

"Where will you go?" Bella asks.

"Somewhere similar to forks.." Edward said

"But.. I can't visit you?" Bella wonders.

"I don't need you there so no.." Edward said,

"You don't want me?" Bella asks,

"I don't"

Edward expected disbelief over her features, maybe bewildered but she accepted it as the truth without questioning it.

My Dearest Bella have you already forgotten what I've told you? Edward thought. I can't exist without you.

Bella just swallowed and gave a nod.

"I understand" Bella said.

"That's everything I suppose, take care of your Father, your friends.. they need you" Edward said.

"Just stay out of trouble for them" Edward said.

and hopefully for me.. promise me you will.. Edward thought trying to ease his guilt.

But There will be no greater guilt if anything happens to her, he has to make her promise that it's safe to leave her behind.

"I would like to ask you that as a Favour" Edward said.

"Okay" Bella said, Edward could tell that she's holding onto the spark of hope that he's asking her to take care for him.

And as much as it hurts he has to break it. He truly believes he's in the dark pit of hell right now. Things can't get any worse,

Saying this might feel like the death penalty but he would gladly live with pain in order to give her the life she deserves. His fathers comment lingers in his mind, Bella needs protection from Vampires especially from him.

"And I'll make a promise to you in return. this will be the last time you see me, I won't leave a trail of my existence behind"

"You will live your life like we never met" Edward said.

"Why?" Why would you promise such a thing?" Bella said tearful.

"Because it's for the best, for you especially. I'm dangerous Bella, You need to take a hint and just say away from beings like us" Edward said a little strict.

My love for you won't be able to keep my thirst at bay, nothing will. Edward thought, swallowing to try and make his guilt lessen. He needs to leave now or his body won't budge.

"Goodbye Bella" Edward said.

"Try not to feel disheartened, Your memories are like a sieve as time progresses, It heals all wounds" Edward said.

"And yours?" Bella stuttered.

"Vampires don't forget.. but we are easily distracted"

"Just move on, as fast as you can" Edward said moving away.

"Wait" Bella spoke, she reached out but Edward couldn't let her and restrained her hands from holding onto his coat. He didn't want her scent on him.

"Marry me," Bella blurted out. It was gibberish her tears blinded her vision and it was fortunate for Edward because briefly his cold features relapsed, he looked away distraught and when Bella brushed her eyes dry Edward looked back at her not moving from his spot.

"I saved for a ring" Bella said. "I wanted to wait until graduation To ask for Carlisle's blessing but I think now it's the time" Bella said and Edward noticed that she got her hopes up that he'll stay.

She opened a box and an engagement ring was indeed present. It wasn't a trick to persuade him. She really meant that.

"I want to stay with you forever, will you accept?" Bella asks, happy tears instead surfaced letting her eyes swim in it.

Edward became Fearful that he'll let his true feelings he known across his face, he backed away from her.

"I will always love you.. in a way, but not like that.. ," Edward said.

" I can't marry you, because.. you're not good enough for me" Edward said, regret stung and he felt pain in his vocal cords like he swallowed a knife.

and it became ever worse when Bella believed that.

"Well that changes things.. so it was never real?" Bella asks.

"No" Edward said. "Not on my end"

"There is nothing I can do to make you stay?" Bella asks like it became harder to inhale.

"If there was then we wouldn't stand here now would we?" Edward said becoming impatient. Bella just stop, before I drop this facade.

" Okay" Bella said defeated.

" I hope you will be happy, even if it's not with me" Bella said she looked him in the eye no longer seeming devastated,

instead, she accepted him wanting to part from her and placed the box back close to her heart.

" Well, the feeling is mutual." Edward said but couldn't smile anymore, he couldn't even keep a straight face.

"Just don't dwell too long over this, it's not my intention to hurt you but that's the unpleasant part of a break up" Edward said.

" I'm sorry I had to do this" Edward said and that was the only truthful thing he said this night, he hopes her subconscious mind will leave clues through her lifetime that he will always be with her.

" Don't " Bella said below a whisper.

Edward felt it was time to go now, Bella took steps back not placing the ring back from where she kept it. Like she was still wishing he would accept still.

"Take care Bella" Edward said. Warmth appeared on his features briefly. She wanted to marry him, if he could, he would grab her spinning her around and said yes to her proposal, he would race to his father for his blessings. but it's a heart's desire that needs to be forgotten.

Bella didn't see the cold vibe disappear and see the topaz color turn into liquid gold that radiates intense joy because her eyes were already facing the ground holding onto the box with shivering hands.

Something cold was pressed against her forehead, a gentle kiss was placed on her it took a second for her to look up but he was already gone.
