"I don't think we should do this, guys," Jack said apprehensively. "It's probably a bad idea."

"Oh, don't be so nervous, Jack," said Skye, who was sitting to his right. "I've done seances with old friends at slumber parties many times, and I was just fine."

Judy nodded her head in agreement with the vixen's words. Turning her attention towards the striped buck, she said, "Geez, Jack, I've never seen you so nervous before."

"You don't mean to tell us you're afraid of the supernatural, do you?" Nick added with a raised brow.

Jack was taken back by the red fox's presupposition. Then again, it wasn't exactly a presupposition when what someone was assuming turned about to be the truth. "N-No…" he answered hesitantly. "It's… just that-"

"Just what?" Skye interrupted teasingly. "That you're phasmophobic?"

"That I'm what?" Jack asked out of confusion.

"That you're scared of ghosts," the arctic vixen clarified. "Never knew about that until now."

In denial, the buck replied, "Don't be ridiculous. All I'm saying is that if it's possible to communicate with someone through a seance, who's to say it isn't possible to summon something else that we don't want to in the process? You've never seen any horror movie where that happens?"

"Those are movies, Jack. They're just good acting and special effects."

"Besides," Judy chimed in, "it's not like we're intentionally trying to invoke some evil spirit like they do in the movies. We're just trying to make contact with my grandmother, and she was a sweet mammal to everyone she met."

"Yeah," Nick added with a nod of his head.

"I'm sure the whole seance thing'll be a lot less frightening than you believe it's goin' to be," Skye said to the striped lagomorph to her side, holding on to his paw.

Jack sighed. "Fine."

Now that he had finally agreed to the activity that Judy had planned for the evening, Jack followed the others as they made their way over to the black folding table, a seasonal cloth covering it and drooping slightly down its sides. Nick, Jack, and Skye took their seats as Judy shut the nearby lights off, casting the room into a state of darkness. The gray rabbit made her way back to the three a few seconds later, a large candle cradled in both paws.

After she lit the candle and took her seat next to Nick, Jack asked the doe, "What is this?"

"A lilac-scented candle," Judy answered informatively. "Lilacs were my grandmother's favorite flowers."

A moment of silence filled the room before the buck nervously said, "You know, I heard that we can stream Mammalton now. Perhaps we could just watch that and do this some other time." After a momentary pause, he mumbled, "No? Alrighty then…"

"Now before we begin," Judy informed, "we must join paws and close our eyes."

As the others took the paw of who was on either side of them, Jack outstretched his paw and held onto Skye's. He watched as the three around us proceeded to close their eyes and become more relaxed.

"Jack?" Skye said to him. "Your eyes aren't closed."

"Y-Yes, they are," he lied, nervousness audible in his voice once again.

"You can't lie to me, Jack," the vixen replied. "I can sense that your not closing your eyes."

"Okay, okay," Jack muttered with a sigh, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

"Grandma Hopps," he heard Judy calling. "Please join us in our circle tonight…"

A moment of silence was what followed. But just as he was about to say to himself that nothing was happening, Jack felt the folding table start to move underneath him slightly. This caused him to utter a small gasp, but he remained as calm as he possibly could in that moment.

The folding table continued to move around as if an earthquake was shifting it around, returning to a state of stillness several seconds afterwards. Once it had finished moving, the jackrabbit slowly opened his eyes again and looked around.

The flame still flickered on the lilac candle Judy lit before they started, as if nothing had happened. Skye, Nick, and Judy were all looking around the room with looks of surprise visible on their muzzles. At their reactions, Jack started to laugh, causing the three to look back at him.

"What's so funny, Jack?" Skye asked him.

"I see what you guys did there," the striped rabbit said. "I have to admit that this whole thing you set up was pretty clever."

"What are you talkin' about?" Judy inquired.

Jack replied, "You can't fool me. I know it was one of you that was making the table shake so you could scare me."

Shaking his head, Nick chimed in, "That's impossible, Jack. If we were all holding paws, then how the heck could one of us have made the table shuffle around like that?"

"Then Finnick's probably hiding under here," the buck remarked. "No doubt he's in on your elaborate charade as well."

Just as he had finished making that statement, the door that lead to the apartment's porch creaked open, making Jack's heart skip a beat. Shutting the door behind him, the fennec fox that the jackrabbit was just convinced was behind the whole thing stood in the corner of the room.

"Yo, Wilde," Finnick started to say, "you wouldn't believe what they just said on the radio just now." Looking away from Nick and over at Jack, he inquired, "What's the matter with him? Looks like he 'bout to go into shock."

"So, let me get this straight…" Jack said, looking back at three seated at the table with him. "He didn't have something to do with this?"

Nick, Judy, and Skye all shook their heads at the same time.

The previously-dismissed nervousness came back to him once again. "And you swear none of you were doing that on purpose?"

They nodded their heads, verifying that there was no tricks being performed on him.

"Then that means it was a…"

His words were cut short when his eyes darted to the left corner of the room, where he saw something the made his jaw drop in shock. A glowing orb, pale bluish-green in color, was hovering in that area, moving slightly to the right before dissipating.

"Ghost…" Jack breathed upon seeing it fade from view, his expression now looking as if he was about to faint.

Author's Note: Well folks, it appears that Jack has a strong fear of ghosts, whether he wants to admit it or not. XD

Hey there, readers! With Halloween just around the corner, I thought I would write a story that would be a bit fitting for the upcoming holiday.
