"I… I can't believe this, Judy," Nick said as he saw Judy, sounding as if he was now in low spirits.
The current situation was quite serious to him, and Judy was already aware of this. After being together long enough, the bunny was able to determine the gravity of a situation by what name he referred to her as. When he would call her by the nickname of "Carrots" or "Fluff," it wasn't problematic. But not only did he call her by her first name; he also spoke in a voice that was unlike him.
Normally he was always in a much more jovial mood. So what is it exactly that's making him like this? she asked herself.
When she was asking herself that very question, she quickly realized the reason why. She thought that the reason was quite ridiculous, but the fox had been in a small funk since it occurred. He was acting as if he had just experienced an act of utter betrayal, even though that was far from what had happened.
She took a seat beside him and looked over at him. She needed to try and get him out of this dampened mood. "It's not like it's the end of the world, Nick," she said.
"But we're supposed to be friends," was Nick's answer. "We're supposed to look after one another and have each other's back, both on and off the force. At least…" The vulpine paused, letting out a heavy sigh and shaking his head. "At least that's what I thought we were supposed to do. Now I'm not even sure what to believe right now."
"Oh, come on, Nick," Judy replied, rolling her eyes at how ridiculous he was being right now. "I'm pretty sure there's more pumpkin rolls than what was just on that tray."
"Did someone say pumpkin rolls?" Bonnie Hopps said cheerfully, walking out from the kitchen and over towards the dining room table. In her mitt-covered paws was a tray of the baked goods they were just talking about.
"Mom knows how quickly the family devours them," Judy said to Nick informatively, "so she always makes a huge batch of them every year."
The fox's frown immediately turned upside down as Bonnie took the empty tray off the table and put the new one in its place. He took two of the dinner rolls and set them on his plate. He had one taste of this Hopps family recipe awhile back and absolutely enjoyed it. The same could be said about everything that was on the dinner table, in complete honesty.
"Thanks a million, Mrs. Hopps," Nick said to Judy's mother. "You're a life saver."
"I'm just glad you like my cooking," Bonnie replied with a smile.
Looking over at her fox, Judy shook her head and jokingly asked, "All good now?"
"Oh yeah," Nick answered with his mouth full, nodding his head.
Author's Note: Did I have you wondering what was going on for a second? XD
Was in the mood to write something that was a little bit on the sillier side, so I came up with this really quick. Not even joking when I say that this came to me while looking up recipe for Thanksgiving that incorporated pumpkin. One of those recipes happened to be for pumpkin dinner rolls, just like the ones that Bonnie made. And technically this can count as one of the fall stories, as pumpkin-flavored baked goods and pumpkin spice are pretty much the overhyped flavors of the season. XD
'Til next time, everybody!
