The little game of hide and seek began only a short time ago. The fox had already looked in some of the other larger rooms of the house, which didn't have that many good spots to hide without being obviously visible.
Coming down the hallway, Nick came across his son Noah's bedroom door, which was closed halfway. He took this as a clue that he was getting closer, as the door was normally left open during the daytime. He slowly opened it and slowly made his way into the kit's bedroom.
Nick scanned the room to tray and find out where he was hiding. Once his eyes went towards the small closet, he noticed that the light that illuminated it was on. He could faintly see a set of paws near the space between the door and the flooring.
The vulpine grinned upon discovering his hiding spot. "I wonder where he could be," he said, making himself sound like he was completely stumped.
Nick heard a giggle come from the other side of the closet door. The smirk still wide across his muzzle, he walked around the room once more, continuing to pretend that he couldn't find him.
"He's not hiding under the bed…" he said playfully, loud enough that his son could hear him. "He's not behind that stand. And I know that he couldn't be in one of the drawers, unless he's got some magical powers."
The moment he had made that remark, he heard another laugh come from where Noah had been hiding. He could tell that he was trying hard not to laugh too hard and give away the location of his hiding spot, despite the fact that it had already been deciphered.
Nick proceeded to walk back over to the closet. "The weather's a little chillier today," he remarked out loud with a sigh. "I guess I better put on a jacket and warm up."
The tod slowly opened the closet door, which squeaked a little bit upon being opened. The moment he did so, he saw the young fox kit smiling playfully back at him.
"You found me!" Noah proclaimed, clapping his paws together.
"You were in there?" Nick replied, holding a paw to his chest. "Gee, I think you get the award for the greatest hide-and-seek player ever."
"The greatest in the world?" the fox kit inquired with his eyes aglow.
"Yep," Nick replied with a nod of his head. "The greatest in the world. For a moment or two, I was beginning to think you magically disappeared or something."
"Dad, you know I can't do that," Noah chuckled.
"But you know what this means, buddy?"
"What?" The kit was curious to hear what his father was about to tell him just now.
"Since you're now the hide-and-seek champion," the vulpine informed, "you have the honor of seeking. I'm gonna go hide and you'll try to find me, okay?"
"Okay, Dad," Noah replied, ready to continue playing the game with his father.
The young one covered his eyes with his paws and started to slowly count to ten. He started to hear his dad footsteps as he pattered away from where he had been standing.
"Ready or not, here I come!" he said after reaching the number ten.
The fox kit lifted his head and looked over at where his bed was, only to realize that his father was hiding behind the curtain covered the window on that side of the room. The curtain was a light color, making it easy to spot someone should they be hiding behind during a game like this.
Noah slowly walked over towards the bedroom curtain and slowly moved it to the side, revealing his father from his not-so-clever location. "Found you," he said to him.
"Darn," Nick replied. "I thought for sure that I picked a good hiding spot. Oh well, it's your turn to hide again and for me to seek."
"Okay," Noah said giddily, running out of the room as his dad covered his eyes and started to count.
With that, the fun game between father and son continued.
Author's Note: Hey there! This little story came to my mind yesterday and I just had to write it. I know it isn't the most interesting this time around, but I just thought I'd write a little slice of life this time around.
'Til next time! :)
