"Is it almost done, Dad?" asked the fox kit seated in the chair, even though he was very much aware that he had already asked the question a couple minutes before.
The amount of time he had his eyes closed for felt like an eternity in his young mind, which was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. As soon as the finishing touches of the face paint were done and he got his costume, it was time for him to head trick or treating with his friends.
"Not quite, Noah," answered Nick as he looked at him. "It's not ready yet until you say the magic words."
"What are those?" Noah inquired with a giggle. His father always had some sort of funny joke for any given time, and he was sure this was another one of those.
"You seriously don't know, son?" asked his father in reply, the fox pretending to sound taken aback by his unfamiliarity. "Oh well. What you have to do is clap your paws together and allow me to say them."
His eyes still closed, Noah went along started to clap his paws together in a little rhythm like he was doing so to a song on the radio. "Like this?"
"Perfect," Nick said. "Now then... For this special night of Halloween, your special costume can now be seen. All right. Now open your eyes."
Noah slowly opened his eyes as his father turned the chair he was in around so he could see himself in the mirror. The kit was joyous when he saw that his face had been painted green like that of a zombie, just like he wanted to dress up as for Halloween. He had become quite a fan of them since he saw a movie about a group of young mammals that stopped zombies from taking over, and so when the month rolled around he knew exactly what he wanted to be.
The fox kit was basically jumping for joy in his seat as he looked at himself in the mirror. He pretended to hold his paws out like he was a zombie that was stumbling around, giving his best impression of one that he could. "Brains..." he said in a groaning voice.
"Oh no!" Nick said as he hid behind the chair, pretending to be frightened. "Please don't get me, Mr. Zombie."
Noah couldn't keep his zombie act going for too much longer when the chuckles came back to him.
"You excited to go trick or treating with all your friends?" his vulpine father asked.
"I sure am," answered the kit with twice as much as enthusiasm as before. "I can hardly wait."
"Well, you'll only have to wait just a bit longer. Mom's going to bring out your costume any moment now."
"It's ready," said the cheerful voice of Judy as she strolled into the room. The rabbit held onto a hanger that had the kit's costume hanging on it, an dark outfit with tatters on it to look like the outfit a zombie wore after it rose from its grave. "Well, what do you think?"
"Whoa," Noah said to his mom as he got from the chair and had a look at it. "It's so cool, Mom. You made this?"
"I did," Judy replied. "Got a little help from your grandma, though."
Mrs. Wilde strolled into the room with a wide smile on her face, looking over at her beloved grandson. "There's a zombie in the house," she remarked as she held her paws in her head like she was unsure of what to do.
"No need to worry, Grandma Wilde," Nick replied. "It's just Noah."
"Oh, thank goodness. That face paint you father put on looked so real I thought the zombies had come alive for real."
Noah laughed before giving both his mom and his grandma a hug. "Thank you for making my costume."
"You're welcome, Noah," Mrs. Wilde replied. "You know, I used to make your father's Halloween costumes for him when he was just a little younger than you. I think he was a zombie one year too. Weren't you?"
"Yeah, I was," responded Nick.
"And you used to love that old black and white movie that had monsters in it. You had to watch it every year." His mother shook her head as she remembered it. "Oh, was it a funny story. Probably sillier than it was scary."
"Not for me when I was growing up," answered the vulpine. "Revenge of the Monster Broccoli was a creepy one for me back then. Instead of you eating your broccoli, the broccoli ate you in that movie. What could be scarier to a seven-year-old kit than their least favorite vegetable coming alive and chasing you?"
"Yeah, I remember seeing that one once," Judy chimed in. "That show wasn't something I'd see a second time."
"To each their own." Nick shrugged at her response, agreeing to disagree.
Several knocks came over by the front door, and Noah knew exactly who that was. It was time for him to head out to do some trick or treating, and that meant that the Halloween fun was just about to start.
Author's Note: Happy Halloween, everybody! Well, this one came about just a short time ago and I had to get something written for today.
Not a whole lot to it but I just felt like writing a short but cute little moment with Noah once again. Now I can get to work on all of the possible Christmas ideas I had. Those kinds of stories have been cooking up in my mind since before Halloween was even here. XD
'Til next time! :)
