Chapter 2

Some characters, dates, and events have changed from my What If story. Some remain the same but more fleshed out.

1995-1996

Summary

Jason

Alan and Monica Quartermaine are known for their many affairs but fierce loyalty to their family. AJ has been troubled for years since boarding school. He drinks too much and is an alcoholic by age 22. AJ called his brother the Golden Boy because Jason was the perfect son compared to AJ, the disappointment. Jason was taking pre-med courses at PCU. Emily Bowen lost her mother to Cancer, and the Quartermaines adopted her when she was ten years old.

12/28/1995

Months after turning 21, Jason Quartermaine jumps into his brother AJ's red Corvette to stop him from driving drunk. AJ drives his brother into a tree, causing permanent brain damage.

1/18/1996 Jason wakes up to Robin Scorpio talking to him. He was confused, not understanding what happened. Family members came to speak with him. They wanted their perfect son back. He couldn't give them what they wanted. He lost all of Jason Quartermaine's memories. He was angry and wanted to be left alone. When they released him from the hospital and took him to the Quartermaine mansion, he trashed his room. His family couldn't understand the personality change. Monica and Alan understood the brain scans but kept pushing Jason. He used Jason Quartermaine's money and bought a motorcycle. Pissed, he drove it through the Quartermaine living room. Edward cut him off from his trust fund, and Jason left, finding odd jobs to survive.

February

Jason meets Sonny Corthinos, who helps him out of a jam at Luke's Club.

March

3/14/1996

Jason finds 18-year-old Robin Scorpio on a bridge on the outskirts of Port Charles, feeling sad because she lost her boyfriend to AIDS. She recently learned she was HIV-positive two months before he died. A few weeks later, her friend from high school, Jason Quartermaine, is in a car accident. They talk and forge a friendship. It later turns into something more. Robin reveals her HIV status to Jason, but he is unfazed. Jason no longer wants to have the Quartermaine name and takes his grandmother's maiden name, Morgan.

Jason discovers AJ is responsible for his accident, and his cousin Ned Ashton lied about being the driver. Jason doesn't understand the concept of lying, and it enforces his belief he can't trust the Quartemaines.

Jason lives in a boxcar for the first few months of his life as Jason Morgan. He has no money, as the Quartermaines cut him off. He finds $100k on two dead men. Robin is friends with Sonny and knows he is connected to the mob. She knows the money Jason found is illegal, and he could be in trouble if he keeps the money. Robin suggests he take the money to Sonny, and Sonny will know what to do. Eventually, Sonny trusts Jason enough to teach him the organization. Jason rents a room above a bar called 'Jake's,' and meets Carly Roberts.

4/5/1996

Carly Roberts arrives in Port Charles intent on destroying the marriage of the woman who gave her up for adoption. She enters a no-strings-attached, no-name sex with Jason Morgan.

Jason's relationship with Robin deepens, but he doesn't understand right from wrong or understand that having sex with someone he didn't care about while falling for Robin was considered cheating. Robin couldn't enter a sexual relationship with Jason out of fear of him contracting HIV. Jason sleeps with Carly but defends and stays with Robin.

Jason continues to make himself valuable to Sonny Corothinos, starting as a "runner" making deliveries. He buys a gun and practices with tin cans. Robin worries about Jason. She facilitated the friendship between Sonny and Jason because Sonny was someone Jason could trust, but Jason was young and maybe a little naive. Jason swore he knew what he was getting into. Jason tells Robin the only thing that matters is that Sonny believes in him. He doesn't get that from the Quartermaines.

Robin visits Alan and Monica. She says I may be overstepping my boundaries, but if you don't get your shit together, you may lose any relationship you want with Jason."

Alan replies, "Robin, you don't understand. We've tried. He's angry all the time."

"That's because you keep trying to change him back into your perfect son. AJ calls him 'The Golden Boy.' You still want Jason Quartermaine, a varsity soccer star and pre-med student. He's not that person anymore. If you keep pushing him, you will lose him forever. Ask yourself why he enjoys time with Lila and Emily. They accept him as Jason Morgan. I hope you can forge a relationship with him, but you must take the first step."

"Robin, we've tried."

"No, you haven't. You don't like his friendship with Sonny Corothinos and try to derail it at any cost. Jason may not remember the first 21 years of his life, but he is an adult and free to make his own choices, even cutting out the Quartermaine family. Alan, you were so forgiving with Stone and helped me understand my HIV diagnosis; can't you be as forgiving and understanding with your son?"

"Robin, we miss our son."

"He's still your son, just not the version you knew four months ago. That will never change. You need to accept that."

"Sonny Corothino's has turned him into a criminal. The only good thing in his life is you."

"You blame AJ for what happened to Jason. And you blame Sonny for the choices Jason made without you. A parent's love should be unconditional. If you keep punishing AJ, you will lose him. If you keep expecting Jason to change and love you, you will lose him. Alan, what will you do?"

"I'll try."

"Monica, let Jason come to you. Lila lights up when he brings her flowers, and she doesn't ask for any more than he's willing to give."

Monica replies, "I keep hoping my Jason will come back to me. I see slivers of the old Jason when he is with Lila or Emily, but that changes when I walk into the room."

"Monica, you and Alan have seen Jason's scans; you will never get your Jason back. I'm sure Tony has confirmed that. Lila and Emily understand that. I hope you will realize that if not now, then someday soon."

"Thank you, Robin. I'll try, too."

Part 2

Robin sits on the bridge, looking over the water. Jason approaches and says, "Is it okay to ask what you are thinking?"

"Of course. You don't always have to ask for permission, Jason. I was thinking about you and the Quartermaines. I don't want to push you into anything you don't like; if I'm out of line, please tell me. I lost my parents about three years ago. They were both killed, and I miss them all the time. My uncle is wonderful, but it's not the same. I would give anything for more time with them. I didn't know my father until I was five. I will never get back those years. My parents weren't perfect, but they loved me. You may not have memories of your parents, and the Quartermaines aren't perfect, but they love you. They don't always know how to show it. You like spending time with Lila and Emily. Would you try if Alan and Monica could accept you as Jason Morgan?"

"I don't know. I am glad to know Grandmother and Emily. Ned doesn't push and accepts I'm not who he remembers. AJ tries, but he can be pushy. If Alan or Monica can accept me as a different person, I'll try, but I will not give in to that Old Man."

Robin laughs, "Edward, with all of his bluster, has some good qualities. The Quartermaines may scheme, blackmail, and backstab, but they will stick up for each other when it matters. Lila loves Edward, and he adores her."

"Robin, I'm sorry about your parents. I can't promise anything, but I will try to give the Quartermaines a chance.

May 1996

Jason agrees to dinner one night a month—off-limit topics: his return to the family, Sonny Corothinos, and ELQ business.

6/21/1996

Third Annual Nurse's Ball. Jason rescues Robin after her keynote speech. He carries her off the stage, and they sit on the bridge, discussing what happened. Carly finds out Robin is HIV+ and is horrified because she knows Robin is Jason's girlfriend. Carly thinks Jason might expose her. Later, Carly sees Jason at Jake's and argues with him about Robin. She's pissed he didn't mention he knew Robin and says, "You don't have sex with a woman and forget to mention there's an HIV-positive partner in your life."

"I didn't forget. What the fuck is your problem? Robin and I don't have sex, but I thought you didn't care to know anything about me."

"What the hell was that big rescue scene? I saw the way she was looking at you."

"We're close."

"That's it? 'We're close.' Don't I deserve more?"

"No. You can't have it both ways. If you want something more, I can't give it to you. You wanted a boy on the side; that is all you will get. If you don't like it, there is the door."

"Can't or won't?"

"Won't. Goodbye."

July 1996

7/4/1996

Jason is with Robin, celebrating the Fourth of July in the park. Carly tries to make Jason jealous. He doesn't care. He tells Carly to leave Robin alone. He doesn't like the way she treats Robin, lying to her. Carly points out he's lying to Robin.

"It's better than the truth, or do you think she'd enjoy knowing what we do together? How would she feel about you getting your oil changed on a regular basis? You don't belong in the park with the happy people. She does. She doesn't know you at all."

"You are wrong. Robin knows me. You use me."

Carly wants to know why Robin gets to come first. Jason says, "Because that was decided before I met you."

AJ is dating Jason Q's ex, Keesha Ward. He's worked hard to get clean, and Jason notices when he has his monthly visits with the Quartermaines. Alan and Monica are guarded every time they see Jason but are trying. Edward presses Jason's buttons, and several times, he leaves early, slamming the door. Lila asks Edward to stay away during the times Jason visits.

Elizabeth

Summary

Some information is from the show's history, and others are from my imagination.

Jeff Webber is Steve Hardy's son from a prior relationship. Lars and Helene Webber raised him, but Steve was his biological father. Jeff lived in Port Charles from 1976 to 1981 before moving to Nevada. Jeff left with his son Steven Lars after his ex-wife, Heather, got committed to a mental institution when she drank the LSD-laced lemonade meant for Jeff's girlfriend at the time. Heather was in and out of institutions due to her many crimes. One of her failed schemes was to take control of Jason Quartermaine's trust fund. Jason's biological mother was Susan Moore, Heather's cousin.

In 1981, Jeff met and married Carolyn. Their daughter Sarah was born later that year. Carolyn didn't want any more children but accidentally got pregnant with Elizabeth, born in 1982. In 1983, the family moved to Boulder, Colorado. Carolyn wanted to be a doctor more than she wanted to be a mother. She was close to Sarah but mostly ignored Elizabeth. Elizabeth was the screw-up, according to her mother. Steve and Sarah were brilliant, and Elizabeth was average. Sarah was beautiful, and Elizabeth thought she was plain. Elizabeth felt she never measured up to her brother, Steven, or her perfect sister, Sarah. Elizabeth was resentful. Her father tried, but living in a family of doctors or soon-to-be doctors was stressful for Elizabeth. Her mother never let her forget that. When Carolyn left her father, Elizabeth was relieved.

Heather Webber moved to Colorado in 1984, hoping to reconnect with her son. Jeff tried to block access, but Scott Baldwin appealed and won. Heather was allowed supervised visits with Steven Lars. Heather did not like Carolyn near her son and tried to poison her. Jeff successfully sent Heather back to a state institution in 1985.

Jeff and Carolyn argued about joining Doctors without Borders. Jeff didn't want to uproot his children. He agreed to a two-year commitment, and the family traveled to Saravejo in 1986. They returned to Colorado in 1988, as Jeff wanted Sarah and Elizabeth to have a more normal childhood. In 1990, Steven attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and studied pre-med and forensic science.

In 1991, Jeff finds Carolyn in bed with her research assistant. They try counseling, but she divorces him and leaves to practice medicine during the war effort in Bosnia.

From 1983 to 1986, the children would spend two weeks during the summer with their Gramp and Gram, Steve and Audrey Hardy. From 1990 to 1994, Steve and Audrey traveled to Boulder to spend Thanksgiving with the Webber family.

Jeff wanted to be closer to his father. He applied for a position at GH and was accepted in May 1996. July 2, 1996, he moved to Port Charles with his two teenage daughters. Steven attends medical school in Tennessee. Jeff asked Lucy Coe to find suitable housing for the family. In the interim, they stay at the Hardy house.

7/10/1996

Jeff starts his first day at GH. He follows his father on a hospital tour and is surprised at the many changes since he left nearly 15 years ago. (Due to Sorasing, many characters did not exist or were infants when Jeff left. Some have rapidly aged.)

Monica and Alan drink coffee by the 5th-floor nurse's station. Amy Vining pretends to look busy. Monica says, "Jeff Webber, is that you?"

Jeff replies, "Alan and Monica Quartermaine, it has been many years since I've seen you. How are you?"

Alan replies, "We are good. Are you rejoining the staff?"

"Yes. I moved here with my daughters Sarah and Elizabeth. They will be starting school in the fall. Sarah will be 15 in September, and Elizabeth will be 14 in November. Steven has two remaining years at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Tennessee."

Monica says, "We have a daughter, Emily, about a year younger than Elizabeth. Once you are settled, Emily can show your daughters around town."

"Thank you. It would be nice for them to have some friends before they start school."

Amy, who has been eavesdropping, says, "Jeff, do you remember me? Are you still married? Audrey said you married a woman named Carolyn."

Jeff laughs, "Amy Vining. How are you? You haven't changed. I'm divorced. Audrey told me that Luke and Laura moved back to Port Charles with their son. He's about Elizabeth's age. They have a daughter in the ICU with aplastic anemia, and there's a bone marrow donor scheduled for transplant in a few days. Tell Luke and your sister their daughter is in my prayers."

Steve says, "Please follow me to my office, and we can finalize your contract. Tom and Simone would like to have you and the girls for dinner with Tommy Jr. later in the week."

"Thanks, Dad. I look forward to seeing Tom again. It's nice to be back in Port Charles."

7/15/1996

Tom Hardy finds his father's body slumped over his desk. COS Dr. Steve Hardy dies from a heart attack. He was the glue of GH. His wife, Nurse Audrey, remains stoic and puts up a front of taking charge of her nurses. Word spreads of Dr. Hardy's passing. Alan calls and notifies his family. Edward was close to Steve. Dr. Kevin Collins announces he is available for counseling for those who need it. Tom finds Jeff in his office and breaks the news to him. Doctors, nurses, staff, friends, and patients mourn his passing.

7/17/1996

Jason finds Robin on the bridge and comforts her. She says, "The memorial is tomorrow. It will be a sad day, but if I can see you after, it will give me something to hold onto."

The following morning, Port Charles residents prepare for Dr. Hardy's service. Several friends and colleagues reminisce about their special moments with him.

Jason arrives to show support for Robin. She hugs and thanks him. Jason says a polite hello to his family. Monica thanks him for being there for Robin. Tom, Jeff, Audrey, Alan, and Monica walk to the front. Anne Logan, Audrey's niece, arrived and stayed at the Port Charles Hotel the night before. She sits next to Audrey. The chapel in the hospital fills quickly. Steven arrived the night before and sat with his sisters in the back.

Several people share memories of Steve. Jeff stands and shares how he discovered Steve was his biological father. "Steve, umm, Dad was ill with Lassa Fever. Audrey told me he was my birth father. It was rough at first, but I loved my father. He and Audrey visited us often at our home in Nevada and Colorado. My son Steven Lars sat on his lap when he would tell the story of Christmas. I love and will miss you, Dad."

Jason and Elizabeth's story begins when he meets Elizabeth at her grandfather's memorial service in 1996.

During the receiving line, Robin offers condolences to the family. Audrey says, "Jeff, Robin is Robert Scorpio's daughter. Do you remember him?"

Jeff smiles and remembers the Aussie. He says, "I'd like to introduce my children, Steven, Sarah, and Elizabeth." The children politely shake Robin's hand. Jeff says, "Who is your friend?"

Robin replies, "Jason, I'm sorry. I know this is not your thing."

Jason says, "It's okay. I'm Jason Morgan. It's nice to meet you." Robin and Jason quickly leave.

Anne approaches Jeff and warmly hugs him. "Jeff, I'm sorry for your loss. Steve was a wonderful man and doctor." She acknowledges Sarah and Elizabeth. Anne mentions remembering Steven when he was a baby.

Jeff asks, "Are we okay? I'm sorry for how we left things after my affair with Diana."

"Jeff, that was 15 years ago! We both moved on. You have beautiful children. You should have no regrets. I adore Audrey. I'll be back again to visit. Good luck at GH and Port Charles." Anne kisses Jeff's cheek and leaves.

The Spencers give their condolences. Jeff says, "I appreciate you taking the time to share stories about my father. Audrey says your daughter LuLu received her transplant yesterday."

Laura says, "Yes, we pray for her recovery. It is always good to see you, Jeff. Dad and Ginny are sorry they couldn't be here. Rick Jr. is sick. Please meet my son Lucky."

"Thank you, Laura. It's nice to meet you, Lucky." Jeff waves his hand, "These are my daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth. They will join you and Emily Quartermaine at PCH in the fall."

After introductions, Sarah elbows Elizabeth. "Lucky Spencer is cute. He's your age."

Elizabeth sighs, "I just met him. I'm not happy to be here. I miss my friends in Boulder."

Sarah laughs, "Your friend Terry rejected your kiss; how humiliating."

"Sarah, you are a pain in my ass. I'm going to check on Gram."

Steven Lars returned to Tennessee to complete his last two years of medical education.

Elizabeth wrote in journals after Gramps, and Grams encouraged her to write about her feelings when the family returned from Sarajevo. She wrote about her feelings of abandonment after her mother left. Her handwriting changed from an eight-year-old scrawl to cursive writing.

Elizabeth writes in her journal. "I miss Colorado, but everyone's stories about Gramps were interesting. I met Emily Quartermaine. Dad says she will show Sarah and me around Port Charles. I met Lucky Spencer; Sarah teased me about him. I think she likes Lucky more than she will admit. She thinks I should pursue him. I feel bad about his baby sister. Dad knew Robin Scorpio's father. There was a wild story about how Mr. Scorpio and Mr. and Mrs. Spencer saved Port Charles from freezing. Robin's boyfriend Jason is cute; it's too bad he's Steven's age. I overhead Gram tell Dad that Jason was a Quartermaine. Dad said, 'Sarah and Elizabeth don't know that I used to be married to Monica.' Gram said, 'You should tell them before they find out from someone else.' How weird is this town?"

Elizabeth

July-December 1996

Monica arranged for a Quartermaine car and driver to take Emily and her new friends around Port Charles. Elizabeth looks out the Hardy house windows and says, "Sarah, look at the size of that car. Emily Quartermaine is here to show us Port Charles."

Jeff says, "Girls, you can use my old cell phone until you can pay for your own. Call if you need anything. Have fun. If Emily doesn't mind, can you pick up some of Kelly's famous chili on your way home?"

Sarah replies, "Sure, Dad. We'll see you later."

The driver gets out and holds the door for Sarah and Elizabeth. Emily says, "I hope you don't mind, but I invited Lucky Spencer to help with the tour. He's our next stop."

Elizabeth asks, "How long have you known Lucky?"

"When the Quartermaines took my mother and me in, he was my first friend when we came here from the Wellness Center in Arizona. After she died, Alan and Monica adopted me late last year. Lucky and I ran away before the adoption. Mr. Spencer found us and brought us home."

The car stops at the Spencer house, and Lucky runs out, slamming the door behind him. Luke opens it and yells, "Cowboy, don't disrespect your mother like that."

Lucky jumps into the back of the car. "I can't believe my mother lied to me and my dad for years! LuLu's donor turns out to be Prince Nikolas Cassidine, my half-brother! The Cassidines kept my mom captive on their Greek Island for four years, and she has a bastard son because of what that psycho did to her!" Emily places a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

Emily says, "Lucky, do you remember Sarah and Elizabeth Webber? We are going to show them Port Charles."

"Webber? Is your father related to Rick Webber?"

Sarah replies, "He's our uncle. How do you know him?"

"He's my mom's adoptive father."

Elizabeth says, "That's funny because our dad used to be married to Monica Quartermaine."

Sarah says, "Lizzie, that was uncalled for. Not everyone knows."

"I didn't know until three days ago. What's the big deal? I heard everyone is related by adoption or marriage in this town anyway."

Sarah apologizes for her sister's comment. Elizabeth snickers. Emily brushes the statement off and mentally notes to ask Monica and Alan about it. They adopted her almost a year ago, and she hasn't gotten used to calling them Mom and Dad outside the Quatermaine home.

Emily and Lucky point out Port Charles High School. PCU, the Waterfront, and various diners and restaurants. Sarah says their dad wants chili from Kelly's. Elizabeth asks, "Why is the chili from Kelly's so good that my father wants it versus someplace else?"

Lucky replies, "My Aunt Ruby owns Kelly's. The chili is the best in town. They have great BLT, too." They order takeout from Kelly's, and the car drops Sarah and Elizabeth off.

Driving toward the Spencer house, Emily listens to Lucky complain about his new brother. "Emily, I'm glad LuLu is getting better, but why did it have to be him to save her? She's my sister too. I was there when she was born. He shows up out of nowhere."

"Lucky, I love you, but you sound like AJ. He's always worried about Jason being better than him. They get along better thanks to Robin, but you don't have to get along to appreciate he saved LuLu's life."

After dinner at the Hardy house, Jeff tells his daughters that Jesse Brewer's house before she died was rented out by his father and is currently vacant. Audrey told him about it, and he contacted Lucy Coe and bought it. It is a few blocks away from Audrey's house on Maple Avenue. Jeff says, "I think it will be nice for you to be near your grandmother. We can move in next week."

August-September 1996

Emily and Elizabeth became fast friends. If Elizabeth wasn't at the Quartermaine Mansion, Emily was at the Webber house. They were still unpacking boxes and waiting for some furniture to arrive. Emily enjoyed hearing stories from Jeff about his time in Port Charles.

Emily took Elizabeth on walking tours and introduced her to Eli's Ribs. Occasionally, Lucky Spencer would join them, but he was concerned about his sister and wanted Nikolas Cassidine away from his mother. Laura felt guilty for abandoning him.

Elizabeth saw Jason Morgan a few times when he visited Lila. Lila invited Elizabeth for tea when she visited Emily. Elizabeth thought she was sweet and liked almost everyone.

8/3/1996

Lucky and Nikolas got into a fistfight. Elizabeth runs into Lucky at Kelly's Diner, and he's sporting a black eye. "What happened to you?"

"Nikolas Cassidine. He said some awful things about my family."

"I'm sorry, but he did save your sister's life."

"You and Emily, defender of all that is princely! What does Sarah think of him?"

"I think Sarah's visited him a few times at that creepy castle."

"Everyone should stay away from Nikolas if they know what's good for them."

"Lucky, Emily likes you, I like you, but you got a bug up your ass when it comes to your brother."

"Half-brother, and that's being generous."

8/15/1996

School starts at PCHS. Nikolas and Lucky show an interest in Sarah. Emily moans about her crush on Nikolas. "What does Sarah have that I don't have?"

"Elizabeth teases, "Boobs. Seriously, Em, you are almost thirteen, and he is sixteen. That may not matter in five years, but today, that is weird."

"What about my brother?"

"What about him? Sure, he's cute, but he's dating Robin Scorpio. He's almost my brother's age. I'll be fourteen in three months. Besides, I have my eye on Lucky, who is age-appropriate."

8/27/1996

Emily visits Elizabeth. "I'm worried about Jason. He got in a fight and is at GH. Mom and Dad won't tell me what happened, but something happened to Robin, too."

"Emily, from everything you've told me about your brother, he knows how to take care of himself. He works for that mob guy Sonny Corothinos. My dad worries about visiting you when Jason is there, but I told him Jason has always been nice to me. He's always on his best behavior when he sees your grandmother. Lucky's father is friends with Sonny."

"I know Jason can care for himself, but my parents worry about him. Dad knows better than to confront him. He's afraid of violating the rules Jason created."

10/15/1996

Jeff suggests Elizabeth babysitting some of the children in the neighborhood. She watches Lucas, Maxie, and Georgie Jones.

Sarah tutors kids from the grade school and volunteers at GH.

11/30/1996

Elizabeth writes in her journal. "Lucky and Nikolas co-exist because they both love LuLu. It's also weird, but Lucky's Aunt Bobbie married Nikolas's Uncle. Rumor is some woman broke up Bobbie's marriage to Tony Jones. Emily's mom has Cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. Everyone is chipping in to help Mrs. Quartermaine, including Jason and Emily's cousin Ned."

12/20/1996

Sarah, Elizabeth, and Emily play elves for sick kids at the GH hospital party.

12/24/1996

The Webbers and Hardys spend Christmas Eve at the Brownstone, where Tom is involved with Felecia, and her kids are with her; Stephan shows up late. Elizabeth helps with the kids.

12/31/1996

Elizabeth babysits again for the Jones kids. They are paying her double for the holiday. She is saving money for her own cell phone and a new purse. She writes in her journal, "Mom sent a Christmas card from Bosnia. She must have mailed it last month. She's getting married to that research assistant. Good riddance! I hate her."

Jason

August-December 1996

8/1/1996

Sonny tells Jason that his involvement with the Quartermaines is troublesome for his business. Sonny tries to control him. Jason tells Sonny he knows where his loyalties are, but Sonny has no say about his family, just as the Quartermaines have no say about Jason's business with Sonny.

8/12-8/20 1996

Jason and Robin spend a weekend in Montauk and experience making love without the sex. Jason never understood what something like that could be. Jason gets attacked on the way back to Port Charles and lands in the hospital. Robin stays with him while he recovers. Alan worries about Jason but allows Sonny to visit him. Sonny lectures him on protocols. He didn't follow procedures, and that is why Jason was beaten. Jason is still learning and promises to be a good foot soldier.

Robin gets early admission to Yale, and Jason wants to make the most of their time together. They spend time at the box car he lived in after his accident. Jason confesses what happened with Carly and says he didn't understand what making love was until Montauk and promises never to be with Carly again. He takes her to Yale, and as he drives off, he mouths 'I love you' for the first time.

Carly knocks on Jason's door at Jakes. "Jason, I thought you might be lonely now that Robin is at college. I could always call her and ask."

"You can't blackmail me by threatening to tell Robin. I told her everything. She knows what happened with us."

"Do you need comforting?"

"Carly, it's over. I don't want to be with you anymore. I love Robin. I don't want to have sex with you."

"Do you hate me?"

"No."

"But you don't like me much, do you?"

"No, I don't like you much. I don't like the way you treated Robin. I don't like how you assume Robin and I are over because she's at Yale. Robin is my heart. She has something you never will."

"What's that?"

"My trust."

10/25-12/1/1996

Jason finds out from Emily that Monica has Cancer. Jason spends more time with Monica, and he helps the family get through it. Monica appreciates Jason taking the time to visit her after her treatments. Lila smiles in approval.

12/8-10/1996

Robin visits Sonny and Jason. She can't stay for Christmas as she's going on a tour with other HIV+ youth to tour schools, telling students their stories. Sonny buys a small tree, and the trio celebrates early. Jason picks Robin up from her Uncle Mac's to take her to the airport, where they share a tearful goodbye.
