Ken and Christíana were battling in the courtyard.

A dark cloud descended over the land and out stepped a strange man in a cloak.

"Who is that?" Christíana said.

"That is the Owl. The one who killed your mother and my father!" Ken said.

The two drew their weapons.

"Glacies!" Christíana shouted, and ice fleks sprang from Excalibur.

"Sphera!" Ken shouted, and orbs of fire sprang from Clarent. "It's different! This Owl is female!"

It was no good; the Owl was approaching faster now. They hadn't mastered the swords yet. They weren't ready.

The Owl raised her bright red wings. But before she could destroy them, Ken leapt in front of Christíana.

Ken crossed the sword over his chest, then leveled it, pointing it at himself. "Fuuin no Ken."

The Owl reached forward and cried out; but it was too late. The bright light banished the clouds in the sky. There was the sound of something breaking.

"One day, everything you own, everything you love, will be mine!" The Owl swore as the seal claimed her.

Christíana ran to Ken's side and confirmed the mournful truth: his heart was shattered. Gone forever was the thing he needed most; the thing that drew them together; their love.

His hair had gone white, and in his eye shimmered red—like the Owl's.
