"Hey Eddie are you ok?"

Eddie winced as she attempted to lean over to take her shoes off. Her mind went back to five hours earlier.

"Ok Officer Janko. It's going to feel uncomfortable for a few minutes as I test a couple of these sensors. Try and relax."

Eddie had no idea what hit her. Without even realizing it, she found Jamie's hand in hers. He was taking his role very seriously. She barely registered that he was kneeling in front of her. She tried to concentrate on his voice.

"Eddie, look at me. That's it. Try to breathe through it. In and out. Deep breaths. In and out. There you go. Almost done. Almost done."

The very uncomfortable ache disappeared just as quickly. Managing to open her eyes, she found Jamie's green one's looking into her own. He looked pale.

"How you doing Janko?"

Swallowing, she realized that one of his hands had been rubbing circles on her upper back. Her lower back was all knotted up. Shifting uncomfortably, she looked up at the woman sitting in a chair next to her at a computer screen. The woman gave her a sympathetic look spoke.

"Believe it or not, that amounted to a mild contraction. You're going to be stiff for a little while. So I suggest you lie down when you get to the apartment. I'll have a doctor come and check on you when you get there."

A few minutes later, Eddie was being given a glass of water. She was so thirsty. She just now realized she had a thin sheen of sweat on her left brow.

Eddie was brought out of her thoughts when Jamie repeated his question.

"Eddie are you ok?"

Jamie was kneeling down in front of her, helping her get her left shoe off. Eddie nodded and winced, sitting up straight against the couch.

"Yeah. Its just hard to move around in this suit. This adds 40 pounds. I can't even see my feet to take my shoes off. Can you help me?"

Jamie smirked and nodded.

"Already on it partner."

As Jamie took her right shoe off, there was a knock on the door. Jamie kept his hand on his gun at his hip and checked through the lookout hole in the door.

"Who is it?"

A woman was behind the door.

"Benjamin Stevenson, it's Doctor Erica Matthews, I'm here to check on your wife Jessica."

Jamie watched as the woman held up a police shield and then an id/medical license. Nodding, Jamie let the small woman with dark hair and glasses in. Shutting the door, he locked it up tight. She smiled at Eddie and then gave her a sympathetic look.

"Officers. All the rooms in this apartment building are soundproof so that no one can hear our conversations. Its swept continuously while each occupant is out for anything that might be out of place. Now down to business. I'm Officer Erica Lancaster from TARU. How are you feeling Officer Janko?"

Shifting uncomfortably, Eddie nodded but winced.

"It's Eddie. I'm pretty uncomfortable right now. I can't even bend over to get my shoes off. My partner has to help me with that. I actually got pretty dizzy as I sat down."

Officer Lancaster frowned and pulled out her id/medical license.

"Well you're in luck. This is a real medical license. I was a Doctor up in OB at Saint Andrews."

Eddie tried to wrack her brain.

"You were the one who put those sensors on me. You were the one at the computer testing them. I've never felt anything so awful in my life."

A sympathetic look came to Officer Lancaster's face.

"Don't worry, I'm here to guide you through everything. Those sensors communicate in real time with the suit you are wearing. You're probably a bit stiff still. You're partner and I are going to help lean up against the couch. I'll have him help you put your legs up there. Ok. Jamie you want to grab a couple of pillows and prop them up behind her back?"

Jamie grabbed a couple of pillows from the far end of the couch and gently lifted her back and placed them behind it.

"Is that better Eddie?"

Eddie nodded but stayed completely still. Officer Lancaster pulled out a blood pressure cuff and put it around Eddie's arm. She stared at the ceiling as it tightened and then let out a hiss as it loosened.

"Hmm. 145/95. That's a bit high. But that's to be expected that's correlating with the sensors and the suit. I'd probably get a more accurate reading if you didn't have this 40 pound suit on. Just a couple of more things I need to check and then I'll be out of your hair. Scratch that. Make that three things. These sensors are set to register every little hiccup this suit makes. I helped design this suit. I quit medicine to get into the technology side of things. I just got tired of the extremely long hours. The joy of bringing babies into the world will never get old. But it was the hours that were wearing me down. TARU gives me the satisfaction of better hours and I'm happy. Let me know if anything is uncomfortable ok?"

Eddie nodded and watched as Officer Lancaster/Doctor Lancaster pressed on a few spots on the fake belly. Eddie winced and then put a hand up. Jamie took that as a sign to grab a hold of it.

"Ouch."

Jamie looked concerned.

"Eddie, what hurts?"

Now it was Jamie's turn to wince as Doctor Lancaster lifted up Eddie's shirt slightly. Revealing a bruise.

"Eddie, did you bump into anything?"

Eddie sighed.

"I might have bumped into the table trying to sit down."

Doctor Lancaster shook her head and then gave a small smile.

"You have to be very careful Eddie. Someone is very active in there. Did you see that little ripple? That's a foot."

Jamie became pale as a sheet.

"Wait, that fake baby moves?"

Doctor Lancaster nodded her head yes.

"This baby is a boy. Yes he moves. The sensors pick that up."

Eddie took Jamie's hand and placed it on the spot where she'd seen the tiny flutter. He furrowed his eyebrows.

"That feels so real. What is this fake belly made out of?"

Doctor Lancaster shook her head.

"Mostly silicone."

Jamie took his hand away and placed his hand in Eddie's. With her free hand, Eddie pulled down her shirt. Eddie looked to Jamie as Doctor Lancaster put a stethoscope up against the fake belly. She nodded and put the stethoscope back in her bag.

"Everything is exactly how its supposed to be. That baby's heart is ticking away. The heart rate is 150. You should rest awhile. This couch is not ideal. How about the bed in the bedroom."

Jamie helped Eddie to her feet and she slowly walked towards the bedroom. He hovered slightly behind her with his hand mere inches from the small of her back.

"Take your time Eddie. There's no rush."

Eddie whipped her head around.

"Reagan, I've got it."

Eddie's feet were screaming as she lowered herself onto the bed. She was about to lie on her back but Doctor Lancaster stopped her.

"Actually its better if you lie on your left side. Jamie, can you grab that pillow over there. Here Eddie, put that pillow between your knees. It'll take the pressure off your hips. Does you back still hurt? Is it still knotted up? I'll let myself out if the two of you need anything, let me know."

Eddie nodded and looked to Jamie. Then he looked to the woman with dark hair and glasses.

"I'll walk you out. Take a nap Janko."

Eddie rolled her eyes and pulled the blankets over her.

As Jamie was about to open the door to let Doctor Lancaster out, she spoke.

"I'm telling you what I tell all expectant parents. She needs some rest. The size of the suit, her small stature, and the 40 extra pounds added on, it'll be taxing on her skeletal structure. Her back is going to tense and knot up often. Massaging it will help loosen it up. Just make sure you work around the sensors. Otherwise the suit will read it as active labor and we don't want that yet. Let me know if she needs anything, and you no more carrying her over the threshold. You're lucky there are two doctors on this floor. 60 days and this assignment will be over and hopefully the ring will be gone. 60 days give or take a couple of days. No matter what, you are the one that has to deliver that baby. I'll be on standby if you need me. Don't let Rolanil get too close."

Jamie swallowed and closed the apartment door. This was all a lot to take in. Making his way towards the bedroom, he noticed Eddie was still awake.

"Hey, I thought you were sleeping."

Eddie shook her head against the pillow.

"Jamie, my back is so tense that I can't get comfortable."

Nodding, Jamie climbed onto the other side of the bed. Eddie felt awkward but at the same time comforted that Jamie cared so much. Sighing, she felt his fingers work the tensed up muscles in her lower back. She groaned and blew out a breath.

"Ouch."

Eddie felt his hands freeze and suddenly, his face appeared in her line of sight as he leaned over her.

"You ok?"

Eddie nodded and pointed a finger at herself.

"It's nothing you did Jamie. He's kicking me. Which incidentally is making my lower back knot up again. I'm hoping he'll stopping kicking me in the ribs and go to sleep."

Sighing, Jamie took his index finger and tapped against the fake belly.

"Hey in there, how about lets settle down in there and go to sleep."

Eddie made a face at Jamie and then sighed as the rhythmic rippling stopped.

"Reagan, I doubt he can hear us. Its a very sophisticated doll. It honestly creeps me out that this baby actually moves and breathes. What were you talking to Officer Lancaster talking about?"

Jamie went back to massaging Eddie's lower back. She was surprised at how soft and gentle his hands were. She mentally shook her head. Get it together Janko. He's your partner!

"She said that I had to be the one to deliver this baby. No one else. She said she'd be my back up if I needed it. She said this is considered high risk because of your small frame. And the 40 pounds of extra weight would be hard on your skeletal structure. She wants you to rest as much as possible."

Eddie turned her head towards Jamie and frowned.

"Then how are we supposed to lure Rolanil out if I'm confined to this apartment?"

Now it was Jamie's turn to make a face.

"I never said I was going to follow what she said. Tomorrow morning we're going to have breakfast at the diner two blocks down from here."

Eddie sighed again. Then attempted to sit up. Jamie had an invisible question mark on his face as Eddie spoke.

"I feel disgusting. I need a shower."

Jamie sighed and shook his head.

"Afraid not Eddie. Officer Lancaster said the suit has to stay on. Sponge bath only."

Frowning, Eddie pointed at Jamie as he straightened out the bottom of her shirt and helped her sit up.

"Don't get any ideas Reagan. Just help me to the bathroom. The rest I can do on my own."

Jamie helped her into the bathroom and helped her sit on the edge of the tub.
"I'm not going anywhere."
