AN: sorry for the inconsistent scheduling, but I hope you enjoy this chapter.

...

He was outmatched, getting attacked from a distance was a blessing since that heavy armor surely wouldn't even let a scratch in.

[oh come on, where was that courage that you had before] Chara's berating wasn't answered as Frisk tried his best to dodge.

Long-range attacks coming from behind the pillars mean she can't jump, I just have to get to the end of the bridge-

Swish!

Frisk's movements didn't save him from the blue attack, it pinned his foot, forcing him to narrowly dodge the barrage of pure mana, he finally broke out of the blue attack with the help of some gloves that saw better days.

He continued dodging the spears as he ran towards the tall grass.

Depending on what happens, a reset might happen… but I have to find a weakness.

[she's closing in on you…! What are you gonna do?] Chara treated this as a game of catch, much to Frisk's grimace.

Just as he lost sight of the monster, he stopped covering his body in mana, diminishing his presence, he stayed still and waited for an opportunity.

Clank clank clank…

Clank…. Clank…

Swish!

"Ohmygoodnessundynecanihaveyourautograph?!" the monster kid's eyes turned into stars as he was grabbed by his idol.

"..." Undyne was not amused however, the monster dragged the kid back.

"Er… you won't tell my parents right?" the toothy grin of the monster kid started to falter as they headed in the opposite direction.

Frisk ran away from the scene, panting heavily.

"For a monster inside a metal suit of armor, she kept up pretty nicely, she's a close-range fighter with high strength, or she's just good at everything and I'm screwed."

[most likely the latter.] Chara yawned as she reveled in Frisk's horror. [it felt like killing you was not even her priority]

who cares anyway? I'm immortal, yeah! Frisk cheered himself up.

..

After a prank or two…

Frisk continued through the waterfalls and found rain pouring on a statue.

Weird, how does it rain underground?

Thankfully a conveniently placed umbrella bin was nearby and he took off.

Hmm-

"Yo!"

"Gah!" Frisk almost fell into a puddle of water but used a blast of wind to disperse it. "How are you so good at surprising me…" Frisk sulked as Chara laughed.

"Sorry, but can I go with you? I don't wanna get too wet" Another toothy grin appeared.

"Fine… but only if you teach some magic along the way. I'm kinda curious about what your school teaches you."

Schools don't teach magic, nobody fully trusts an unaffiliated individual with magic. Especially kids.

"Alright!" Monster Kid cheered as they walked,

"So, how do you use those white attacks? I only heard about magic in books." Frisk lied.

"Monsters use a lot of mana easily because we're made of it, it's as natural as using our body. You've never used a white attack?"

"Er… 'm not allowed to use magic, I got grounded. "

"Wow, you must have messed up badly! Hehe, I can show you some magic." Monster kid let out a frozen breath and froze the ground beneath them, making it slippery and tripping Frisk.

"You know I can hear holding your laugh right?" Frisk perked his wolf ears as he tripped Monster Kid as well.

Ha! Now let's see how you like- Frisk's grin disappeared.

Frisk discovered how much stepping on a dog's tail could hurt from this moment.

A small tear formed in Frisk's eye.

"I deserve that… are you ok?" Monster Kid saw how much Frisk was rubbing his tail out of pain.

"I'll live, but I think we're both gonna get a cold after this. " Frisk joked as he put the umbrella above their heads again, they walked slower this time around."

It seems that monsters can use innate magic and they combine it with their "white magic", creating a set of spells easy enough for kids to learn while also making it unique to themselves… I wonder how this happened. From what I could read in the history books, magic should be impossible to cast for anyone inside Mount Ebott

"So, what's your house like?" Frisk asked to start small talk.

"They are very nice but sometimes they don't like me going around too much, they worry too much, the royal scouts are around so nothing bad ever happens."

"I think it's sweet they care about you," Frisk smiled, he lied about his parents and continued the small talk. Other than that incident, their talk about magic flourished. Frisk managed to learn how monsters gather mana. Which was through every fiber of their being. It's like being always connected to a power source.

They arrived at the end and returned the umbrella

"Hmm, I can't exactly climb, I'll find another way, don't worry!" The monster kid ran and tripped. But quickly went his way. "Well, maybe I can…" before Frisk could finish his sentence.

Interesting, humans can manage the mana inside of them, but once that's over, we have to wait a while, monsters automatically absorb mana when they do magic, so they never run out, but that can't be right, otherwise they'd never get tired, and they have beds…

Frisk theorized while he read some more signs and found another save star.

This thing… I still don't know how it works, I don't have a patient soul, why would my personal ability have to do with time?

He gained new knowledge about the human and monster war. Humans were simply too numerous and organized.

I guess knights probably were effective in war he mused to himself.

As he passed the dock….

Fwom…

Fwom… x2

Fwom x6

Swish!

Okay, is the monster kid setting me up?!

Frisk took one spear with his gloves, which were engraved with the mana of the previous owner, and got knocked into the roof!

Oof… Frisk shook his head as soon he felt a glow next to his face and jumped out of the way.

Where is that monster casting from? Man if it wasn't so dark I could see ahead much better… nevertheless Frisk knew that running away would eventually corner him, so he decided to take this Undyne head-on. If he only heard the footsteps…

Frisk maneuvered around the weirdly built dock and the spears, the ceiling was too small for flight, but the spears could easily reach him and the human kid was more confident on his feet than on a newly discovered spell. The bright side was that Frisk could easily move fast enough to dodge before the spears could be fully cast, the downside was that the spears started to predict where he would land, forcing him to slow down. To not his feet filled with holes Frisk cast wind surges to forcibly change his trajectory, giving his arms some lovely splinters, Frisk did not stop though as the next volley of spears was onto him.

Clank clank clank

Wait, she's below me? But before he could ponder about it a spear pierced part of his forearm, prompting him to keep running. Frisk used wind surge again to bounce off the ceiling and dock in a zig-zag manner and the volley of spears eventually stopped but now Frisk could focus a willy wisp around the dock.

I should probably learn how to multitask spells… but learning how to move while copying another mage was hard enough as is…

Clank Clank Clank…

The armored figure appeared at the end of the dock facing Frisk

Huh, in the end, Im cornered, don't have a good arm, splinters distracting me with pain, and freaking magic knight here.

Frisked took out some papers (courtesy of Papyrus) which had circles drawn.

Swish! x2

With a swipe of his hand, Frisk used wind cuts to separate the dock and fall down the waterfall regions as well as cut the papers. The mana inside the circle prompted the explosion of the papers and blinded both of them with its brightness.

Rule number #1 of magic, if your eyes are closed no magic, but right now… we both have no choice but to do so! Frisk smirked as he fell and went out of the smoke. He tried slowing his descent with flight, but could not fully negate the momentum due to being too close to the ground…

[jeez, what a mess…] Chara muttered

.

"!" Frisk sat up from the bed of flowers, he saw his own newly obtained tail, completely crushed "That's gonna hurt tomorrow…" he dreaded while he dusted himself. His hair was becoming whiter as well.

"Weird, flowers with no sunlight…" Frisk looked around as he took in the scenery

[wow, you must feel at home~]

"Oh shut up… " Frisk took out the butterscotch-cinnamon pie and ate it. The taste was very good, it remembered him of Toriel, which brought him a sense of comfort. His vision started being fuzzy, he was tired.

"..." As Frisk walked into the dump, he saw a dummy, and he walked past it.

"What a rude fellow! You didn't even say hi! What kind of manners did your parents teach you kid!" the dummy exclaimed as Frisk was walking away.

"..." Frisk wasn't even surprised at this point. "Sorry? I am-"

"Shut it! It's because of monsters like you that kids these days throw anything in the trash, 'im in a hurry!' doesn't mean you can't spare some basic courtesy…"

Oh my god, he doesn't shut up, does he? Frisk frowned as he slowly walked away. He was so making a deafening spell later.

"Hey! Don't you avoid me- Ack! Ouch! Hey! Argh!" after having wind blades hurt him the dummy ran away.

That pie is amazing… Frisk licked his lips as his previously crushed tail started wagging. He continued walking, he came across some buildings and even a sign that said Gerson's shop. He didn't care too much however he just wanted to know if the royal scientist could help with the beast incident on the surface. He came across a dimly lit section of the waterfall.

It's so pretty… Frisk felt awed at the mystical sight until…

[!]

Another wave of monsters tried sneak attacking…

After gladly accepting their gold as an apology, Frisk felt better than ever. It was like cherishing

[you're just as greedy as any other human.]

"Do you even know what I could do with this kind of money?!"

[ah yes the ghost knows what to spend money on]

"With enough money, you can do anything! Money is society's magic!" Frisk passionately explained. "All the candy you can ever want, cool toys, and best of all, magic!" Frisk's tail was wagging as he was daydreaming about all this money.

[you had me at chocolate]

but I didn't say chocolate… he mused

He continued and saw a set of snails arranged in a racing position.

Frisk felt confused but went on his way.

He stumbled his way into the deep water and woshua.

[!]

Frisk asked for s clean-up up and Woshua delivered… with s bit too much enthusiasm, a wave of white bullets sprang out!

Frisk used wind surge to lessen the impact while being refreshed and cleaned thoroughly after a good while.

[About time, you smelled like my corpse] Chara teased.

That can't be true… right?

Frisk took a quick sniff of himself and he had the faint smell of wet dog.

It's probably fine. Avery convinced himself and trotted onward.

Eventually, he found himself with Monster Kid again, this time he wasn't so friendly.

"Yo, Undyne told me about you, so we are enemies." He snorted some cold air as he said that.

"Do you have any gold?"

[Right behind him]

"Huh? "

"Enemies give gold to their enemies!" Frisk laughed gleefully as he picked up the back pocket that Chara pointed at

"Hey! Give that back!"

[!]

Undyne swung her spear horizontally, Frisk jumped over the strike and undyne, but before he could process what happened his soul turned green and his feet were planted in the ground.

Undyne sent a barrage of attacks whilst Frisk deflected most of them with a wind surge centered around him.

Frisk started smirking and undyne upped her intensity so much that it caused the green magic to wear off due to lack of focus. Frisk ran up from her arm and planned to kick her face! Of course, this was coming from an untrained kid.

Undyne grabbed his ankle and swung before he could realize what happened. This left Frisk stunned and open for the next attack, which was another salmo of spears that stabbed the wolf-eared boy

Crack…

Smash!

[Yikes, that hurts my soul! yours too.]

Oh great, now I can't use magic easily.

After the death and refusing to undo the kick, Frisk grabbed the first spear and deflected the rest. He threw Undyne's spear to her eye again and forced her to dispel the spears. He used this chance to ready up a flurry of magic-enhanced punches, the tough gloves gave him attack power while the rush of adrenaline gave him speed.

I feel more nimble, I thought I'd fall face first. How come?

A bit of a dent started to form in Undyne's armor, but she wasn't going down without a fight! She grabbed the child and suplexed him!

Crack

Smash!

After that Frisk frantically dodged the barrage of spears and accidentally bumped into Monster Kid again.

Shit!

Frisk subconsciously reached out to Monster Kid and took a spear to the back.

Frisk stood his ground instead of going behind the monster kid. and remembered what he told him.

"Monsters use a lot of mana easily because we're made of it, it's as natural as using our body."

So what if I stun her like I did before and make her lose focus even more terribly?

Frisk attempted to do a wind surge below his feet, Undyne saw this slow magic casting and adjusted her aim accordingly. What she didn't expect was to be brought up to him and get another wind surge hidden by a wily sound wisp to crush her from both sides.

a drip of blood fell from Frisk's face…

Come on, interrupt the cast!

The result was more than what he expected, usually human mages fail to cast a spell if they are interrupted or distracted, but it turns out monsters receive a backlash when they fail to cast a spell due to them being made mostly out of magic.

Now! Frisk slashed the air to make a wind cut on her eye and finally hit!

Both of them fell to the ground, Frisk ran out of most of his mana and instead forced a spell out, he couldn't cast anything to soften the fall. While undyne stood up again. But this time Frisk didn't hesitate to run away.

You're lucky you're so tough, I only hit your eyelid…

A mage without eyes is as normal as any person. But the fact that his soul was green right now made him look back at Undyne using one of her hands to lift her eyelid up

"You sure don't give up."

"Don't you… dare… run away!" she roared as she hit a gut punch on Frisk.

"Stop!" The monster kid got in between both of them.

They both forgot he was there… they both stopped their fighting to not hurt monster kid.

"You're lucky he saved you," Frisk said cooly as they dragged her body to a safer place than a stone bridge.

"Just so we're clear, she attacked me first, i just want to get out of here and find my mom." Frisk felt that Monster Kid wanted to talk, but he simply left and went towards the bridge…

Frisk slipped.

I'm too exhausted, no! Despite dying numerous times, Frisk's will to live was still as strong as ever. Come on, just one last spell…!

But before he could die and reset, his hand was frozen together to the ledge.

"Huh, I guess we are even …"

[This is priceless, you catch this royal knight off guard during her biggest spell, luckily hit her into the stalactite, and you still managed to almost die~]

You're DEAD! Frisk growled as his nose started spouting blood.

"...uh… are you crying from your nose?"

"What? No! It's blood, it's a human thing…" Frisk tried wiping the blood but it still kept spouting. He ate some monster candy and he stopped bleeding.

Using magic after resetting is not good I'll hide and fix the reverse mana flow.

Thud!

[ that's not good ]

Unfortunately, Frisk's bleeding was worse than he thought, his side began to hurt as the adrenaline faded.

"are you sure this is normal " Monster Kid asked nonchalantly.

"Yes when we humans get hurt enough we start bleeding to heal and cover the wound, of course, if the wound is too big we bleed out… and die." Frisk was grateful that he took a second piece of monster candy.

"Why?" The monster kid had curiosity.

Chara could answer that Frisk chuckled

He agreed to tell the monster kid if he helped him to Snowdin.
