Episode 5: The Fountain of Wishes

-Throne Room, Dragon King's Den, Hillside Mountain-

Today was like any other day, with the Dragon King giving his all at his work. He would have his servants subdue a quarrel in the west, and secretly gave aid to a Human in need in the east. It was a busy day, with more reports than usual.

Yuu was standing beside the Dragon King as she watched him finish hearing another report.

Dragon King: Phew, today sure is bustling… I'm sorry I can't spend more time with you today, Yuu.

Yuu: You have no need to worry, Dad. I admired Dad's work ethic.

Yuu said it with a big smile on her face. The Dragon King stroked her head.

Dragon King: That reminds me, Arthur. Have you any more leads on that?

The Dragon King called out above. Soon after, Arthur slid down from the ceiling.

Arthur: Your Majesty… Regarding the lead on the Hero's Sword, I have been searching tirelessly for it, but to no avail…

Dragon King: I see… To think it could elude even a Scavenger as skilled as yourself…

He then noticed Yuu searching out the toolbox in her pocket, and she pulled out a sword… A broken sword as it is missing half of the blade, leaving only half of the star opening in the sword.

Dragon King: It will take longer to fix Papa's sword, Yuu.

Yuu held the broken sword tightly by its hilt, a look of disappointment on her face. The sword was practically a good luck charm for her.

Dragon King: For Yuu to become a Great Hero, her sword must be repaired. I'm counting on you, Arthur.

Arthur: Yes, your Majesty.

Arthur then disappeared from sight.

In that moment, a servant hurried before the Dragon King in panic.

Rabbitrouser: Your Majesty, there's trouble! A Human has stumbled into Crystal Moon Hill!

That brought out Yuu's full attention.

Yuu: What? A Human!?

Yuu's eyes sparkled as she listened.

Rabbitrouser: From what we have seen, the Human had crossed into the snowy tundra.

Yuu: That's where the Blooming Forest is.

The Dragon King began thinking as he couldn't understand why a Human is in Crystal Moonhill.

Dragon King: What reason would they have to step foot there?

Yuu: Maybe they got lost?

The Dragon King hummed as he thought about it.

Dragon King: Hm, I am worried about the Human. I shall send someone to help.

Yuu: Me! Me!

Yuu exclaimed, jumping up and down. Before the Dragon King could interject, Yuu had already rushed out of the Throne Room.

Dragon King: Wait! Stop! Goodness… She's already gone… I swear, there's no stopping her when her mind's set…

Rabbitrouser: So what now, your Majesty?

Dragon: I hope no harm comes to the Human…

The Rabbitrouser tilted his head in confusion.

-Blizzard Forest, Crystal Moonhill-

Yuu arrived near the entrance of the Blooming Forest on Isolde. She told her what's going on and the Icicle Stagg brought her here.

Yuu jumped off Isolde as the Icicle Stagg turned to her.

Isolde: Be careful, Yuu. Not all Humans are friendly to their own kind.

Yuu: I will! Thanks, Isolde!

Yuu then passed the gate through the Blooming Forest.

-The Blooming Forest-

In search of the lost Human, Yuu returned to this beautiful place.

Yuu: I hope that Human isn't too far away.

Suddenly, Yuu heard a voice yelling up ahead.

?: Princess!

Yuu was surprised that it didn't take long for her to find the person she was looking for.

?: P-Princess… Wh-Where did you go…?

Yuu saw the Human up ahead.

He was a male wearing yellow clothing with bronze shoulderpads, a sword whose hilt is strapped in a brown belt buckle, dark brown gloves and brown shoes. He has short yellow hair and is wearing a bronze helmet with a spike on top.

The armor-clad Human was looking for someone.

?: I'm really in a bind now… I can't find her anywhere…

The Human suddenly heard the branches moving and started trembling.

?: Oh, how terrifying. Monsters could attack me at any time…

At that moment, Yuu approached him from behind.

Yuu: Hey, what's wrong? Are you in trouble, Mister?

The Soldier was so surprised when he heard someone calling out to him that his knees almost gave out.

Soldier: Waaah! A Monster!?

The Human jumped around shouting, only to stop when he gazed upon Yuu.

Soldier: No… oh, that scared me…

However, the Soldier now realized that there was an 11 year old child in front of him.

Soldier: Huh? A-A Human Child!? What are you doing in a place like this…?

Yuu: U-Um, I'm Yuu. Is something the matter, Mister?

Hesitantly, the Soldier answered.

Soldier: Y-Yes… I am a Soldier from the Florian Kingdom. Um, I came here with a girl but we got separated. I'm looking for her.

Yuu was surprised that there was another Human here, and more importantly that she was lost.

Yuu: Oh no! She's lost!? I'll help you find her!

The Soldier felt grateful when he heard that.

Soldier: You will? That would be very helpful. Then I'll search over there, and you can look over there.

Yuu: You got it!

Yuu headed deeper into the forest, keeping an eye out for the missing girl.

As Yuu was looking around for the lost Human, she noticed the magical pink fountain up ahead. But then, she also noticed something near it as well.

Yuu: Oh, that's…

Yuu approached the object and grabbed it. It was hot pink and had flowery decorations that's finely crafted on it.

Yuu recognized what it is.

Yuu: A girl's shoe…

Yuu wondered why the shoe was here, until a realization came to her as she recalled the shoe was near the fountain.

Yuu: Did she fall into the fountain…?

As Yuu gazed helplessly at the fountain, unsure of what to do next… until she heard a familiar voice.

?: Yuu… Yuu…

A gentle voice echoed from the fountain.

Yuu raised her head… There stood the Fountain Spirit at the edge of the fountain.

Yuu: Oh, Miss Fountain Spirit!

Fountain Spirit: I see you've remembered me.

The Fountain Spirit smiled happily at Yuu.

Fountain Spirit: What seems to be the matter? Are you searching for the owner of that shoe?

Yuu: Oh, yes, I am! Do you happen to know where she is, Miss Spirit?

Fountain Spirit: …

The Fountain Spirit hesitated to answer but then replied.

Fountain Spirit: Yes… She threw herself into this very fountain.

Yuu: Huh!? Wh-Why'd she do that? Is she dead?

Yuu's composure had been taken over by shock.

Fountain Spirit: Please calm down yourself, Yuu. The girl has yet to pass on.

Yuu: Yet to pass on…? What do you mean…? What happened to her?

The Fountain Spirit began to explain.

Fountain Spirit: As you already know, this fountain has the power to grant wishes. With a compassionate wish, that girl had come to the fountain after hearing that it could grant any wish. She wanted to try it for herself.

However, one must show great resolve to have their wish granted, which involves overcoming the trial of the Fountain World by throwing themselves into the fountain. Eternal darkness awaited those who failed… But for those who succeeded, their wish will be fulfilled.

Yuu had heard the tales of the Fountain World from her Dad and his servants.

Fountain Spirit: As such, the girl thrust herself into the fountain, and is now testing herself in the Fountain World.

Yuu: O-Oh, that's what you meant! So she'll be able to come back if she beats the trial!

Fountain Spirit: That's right. However…

The Fountain Spirit hesitated again, and worry began to spread over Yuu's face.

Fountain Spirit: At this moment, the girl's fear has taken over her in this new world, and has stopped moving. At this rate, she'll…

Yuu became worried at what the Fountain Spirit was trying to say to her, until she realizes what will happen to the girl.

Yuu: She'll definitely die! This is bad! Miss Spirit, please let me help her!

Yuu desperately begged.

Fountain Spirit: That's…

The Fountain Spirit pondered the proposal, then said.

Fountain Spirit: Very well… But I will allow it only this once, alright?

Yuu: Really!? Thank you so much! So then… What do I have to do?

Fountain Spirit: You must jump into the fountain.

Yuu's enthusiasm dropped when she heard that.

Yuu: Oh… I figured as much…

Yuu had expected to do so, but actually doing it scared her. But with her mind made up, Yuu steeled herself, then…

Yuu: Here I gooo!

With an energetic sprint, she leapt into the fountain, and with a splash, she vanished, all while the Fountain Spirit watched.

Fountain Spirit: I wonder if it's fate that she came here…?

Without saying anything else, the Fountain Spirit sunk into the fountain.

Then coming out of the bushes, was the Dragon King as he looked around for Yuu, until he realized he lost sight of her.

Dragon King: Yuu…?

-Fountain World-

Within the fountain was a mythical world of unending clouds and a sky that waved like water. It was a place unlike reality, where any desire could be fulfilled. A place many yearned to see, yet feared to visit. This was the Fountain World.

Yuu: Mm… Mmm…

Yuu opened her eyes, a fascinating spectacle before her. She quickly got up and saw that she was standing on pink clouds.

Yuu: W-Waaah! What is this!? Am I… on top of the clouds? Who knew such a big world could be inside a fountain… How fascinating!

Yuu stared around the new world in wonder. She then remembered why she was here.

Yuu: Now, I wonder where that girl is…

Yuu took a hesitant step forward, not entirely believing in what she saw around her.

Yuu continued looking around in wonder. She's walking on pink clouds, there are what seemed to be small ruins around the place, and there were trees with clouds for leaves. Yuu then noticed someone up ahead.

They are small pink clouds, with stubby arms, a mouth, and closed eyes with white eyebrows. They all seemed to be wearing different hats. One is wearing a blue cone with white polka dots while another wears an orange cap. Yuu recalled the creatures she heard from her Dad that lives here. Fountain Fairies.

One of them took notice of Yuu.

Yuu: Hi there! … Um… Is this the Fountain World?

Fountain Fairy: This is the Fountain World… I've never seen you around before… Is this your first time here…?

Yuu nodded at him.

Yuu: My name is Yuu. Um… and I come from the outside world!

The Fairy with the polka dot cone hat looked away, yearning.

Yearning Fairy: I want to visit the outside world one day…

Fountain Fairy 2: It's surprising to see so many visitors from the outside world… Did you also come to have your wish granted?

Yuu shakes her head at this question.

Yuu: No. I'm looking for a girl here. According to Miss Fountain Spirit, she is in trouble and needs help.

The three Fountain Fairies were surprised to hear that, then one of them pointed his stubby hand in a certain direction.

Fountain Fairy: Go this way. That's where the girl was heading for.

Yuu: Thanks!

With that, Yuu quickly went to the direction the Fountain Fairy pointed her to.

Yuu walked for a while, looking for the girl, until she heard something up ahead.

?: Sniff… Sniff(hic)!

Yuu: Is someone… crying?

Yuu searched for the source of the crying until she finally found the girl she was searching for.

She has long blonde hair that passes her waist, and she's wearing a gown with a clear pink color, while the inside over half white diamonds in front of her dress is hot pink. Yuu also noticed a pink hairband that's in the shape of a crown.

Yuu: Oh, I see someone! Maybe that 's…

Yuu approached the girl carefully, trying not to startle her.

Yuu: Hello?

Yuu called out to the girl who was hunched over. She flinched, her body stiff as she cautiously turned to look towards Yuu.

Yuu noticed that the girl had sky blue eyes, and around her neck is a rose as a flower neck piece, and on her waist is a clear pink ribbon waistband.

?: Wh-Who are you…?

Yuu: I'm Yuu! What's your name?

The girl appeared to be 3 years older than Yuu.

Flora: I-I am Flora. You said you were… Yuu, yes? Are you a Human…?

Flora, who stared at Yuu in wonder at how she got here, listened to her explanation.

Yuu finished telling her story, and Flora seemed to have calmed down now.

Flora: Oh my… You went out of your way for my sake!

Relieved that help had come her way, Flora flashed a smile before her face quickly clouded with worry once more.

Flora: I came here to fulfill a certain wish, but I was so scared when the trial began. I was all alone, and there were so many Monsters… I couldn't take another step…

Flora hugged herself and crouched down, tears watering in her eyes.

Yuu: It's okay, I'll be with you from here on out.

Yuu may have been the younger one, but Flora looked up to her as someone she could rely on.

Flora rose up, staggering all the way, and said to Yuu.

Flora: All right. You shall be my servant during the trial. You do well to protect me properly.

Yuu: You got it!

Yuu then became wide eyed at the thought of being a servant.

Yuu: A servant, huh? Yayyy! I get to be a servant!

Flora found Yuu's excitement quite adorable.

Flora: Haha… How peculiar you are, getting excited about becoming my servant.

Yuu: I've got tons of servants who are amazing! I'm happy I get to be like them now too!

Flora: Is that so…

Flora was now really curious as to who Yuu is.

Flora: Do you perhaps live in a Castle somewhere?

Yuu: Kinda… Hey, that's right! I found your shoe back at the lake!

Yuu pulled out the shoe from her toolbox and showed it to Flora.

Flora: So that's where it was! Thank you!

Flora puts on her missing show back. Yuu and Flora then converse with one another as they make their way towards the trial.

As they were moving on, Yuu was fascinated as she heard Flora's story.

Yuu: Ohhh, so you're the Princess of the Humans!

Flora: That's right! Our Kingdom, Floriana, is overflowing with flowers and water.

Yuu: Wow! I've been living in the forest with the Monsters, but that place sounds very beautiful!

Flora suddenly skipped in a halt when she heard what Yuu just said.

Flora: I'm sorry, what did you just say? Are you living among the Monsters of the forest?

Yuu responded by telling Flora about her home among the Monsters.

Yuu: Yeah! My Papa died when I was a baby. But my Dad the Dragon King took me in and raised me! He rules the forest from Hillside Mountain. I met and helped a lot of Monsters, like Rocky the Snowfox at Crystal Moon Hill. And stopped a dispute between the Hunee Bears and Hunee Bees at Hunee Forest.

Flora couldn't contain her surprise but as Yuu spoke, she was enthralled by her tale.

Flora: I've heard that there are those with more pleasant demeanors living among the Monsters, and I had the opportunity to meet some in the Monster Village as well… My Father and his servants are under the impression that all Monsters are savages.

Yuu: I see… It's true that some Monsters are like that…

Yuu nodded her head in disappointment.

Flora: But that's not the only reason. You see, that's partly why I'm here.

Flora began telling Yuu about the current situation among the Humans.

Flora: Long ago, when I was very little, the Human Kingdom of Floriana was nearly conquered once by the Demon King and his army.

From Flora's tale, the Floriana Kingdom was attacked by the Monsters with the black figure of the Demon King casting his shadow upon the land.

Flora: It was then that a Hero came and cast out the Monsters.

As the Monsters rampaged on the Kingdom, a familiar Hero appeared from on top of a hill and took out his pink sword and attacked the invading Monsters.

Flora: The Kingdom was saved, but their rampage had instilled everlasting fear in the Humans.

A 13 year old Flora watched the look of fear in the face of her people, even though over a decade has passed since the Monsters invasion.

Flora: As the years passed, the Humans found peace… until a disturbing rumor began circulating.

Flora still remembered what the rumor was, and how it ended the peace of mind in the Human Kingdom.

Flora: It was said that the Demon King had revived with a hunger for revenge against the Humans. The fear the Humans once tucked away returned so furiously that the Human King fell ill with worry.

The Princess stood with a sad look in front of the King's bed as her Dad laid there sick of worry.

Flora's heart bled for her Kingdom. She felt helpless against the peril threatening her people.

Flora: I then remembered the tale of the Fountain of Wishes from my childhood, and decided to search for it alone since I know I was chasing a Fairytale.

Yuu: I see. So you're doing all this for your home and your Dad.

The Princess nodded at that.

Flora: This trial is a small price to pay for repose for my people…

The Princess then stood back up as she and Yuu rested when they were telling each other's stories.

Flora: Now, I think we have rested long enough. Let us proceed, Yuu.

Yuu: Yeah, let's go!

The two began their trek once more.

Yuu and Flora continued admiring the wonder of the Fountain World. Flying above their heads were Cotton Bugs. Another of the Beastie Tribe that only lives in the Fountain World. Their fluff is a small shade of pink and so are their wings.

Yuu: Those are Cotton Bugs, they look similar to the Sno Bugs.

Yuu and Flora also noticed other inhabitants of the Fountain World.

Their upper bodies are a fluffy white while the waist and legs are black. The tufts on their ears are pink. Curiously, they have a yellow horn on their foreheads, and instead of carrots, they're wielding a spiral spear of pink and white color.

Yuu: Those must be Unicorn Rabbits, another member of the Conie Tribe.

Flora was impressed at Yuu's knowledge.

Flora: You sure know a lot about Monsters.

Yuu: The Monsters of the Fountain World are unique. The Monster doesn't even know they exist!

Suddenly, and to Yuu's surprise, the entire Fountain World darkened, even the sound had disappeared.

Yuu: Huh? What happened?

Yuu then noticed Flora was trembling and sweating in fear.

Yuu: Flora?

Flora then spoke in a trembling voice and wide eyes filled with dread.

Flora: They're here… Those terrifying Monsters… are back!

Then, rising from the clouds, were large shadows of Monsters from different shapes, and they all glared with their glowing red eyes.

Shadow Monsters: (Moaning Growls)...

Yuu pulled out her Stone Sword and stood in front of Flora, ready to defend her.

While Flora kneeled and crouched in fear.

Flora: No… not again…

Yuu sweated as the shadow Monsters approached them, until she noticed something behind the shadows.

Yuu: Huh?

Yuu then began moving forward to the Monsters, to Flora's shock.

Flora: Yuu!? What are you doing!?

Yuu stood face to face with the shadow Monsters, staring at them, before turning back to Flora.

Yuu: It's alright, Flora. This is just a dream.

Flora: Huh?

Flora didn't understand what Yuu was talking about, until Yuu came to her and suddenly pinched her arm.

Flora: Ah!

Flora suddenly got up from the ground, the world is back to normal and the shadow Monsters were gone. She also noticed Yuu sleeping next to her.

Flora: Huh? Yuu?

Yuu then opened her eyes and got up.

Yuu: As I thought we were in a dream.

Flora was surprised to hear that as she and Yuu got up.

Flora: So… it was all a dream…? But how did we fall asleep?

Yuu: Because of him.

Yuu pointed and up ahead Flora saw some sort of creatures floating there.

Flora: What… is that…?

Yuu: A Dreamy Little Angel of the Dreamy Tribe.

They look like Ghostly baby Dragons with ghost-like tails. They have creamy white skin, fin-like arms that are wrapped around them, and black stubby horns and black stubby spikes behind their waists. They were all in a sleeping position inside bubbling bubbles.

Yuu: From the tales I've heard, these Monsters can't fight, so they trap their enemies in a dream so they can get away. But you can still see them in the dream, that's how I noticed we were all sleeping.

It was true as Yuu saw the visage of the Dreamy Little Angels behind the shadow Monsters.

Flora was surprised that the horrifying Monsters were all just a dream. She then realized something.

Flora: Wait… Could they have a part in my Trial?

Yuu thought about it.

Yuu: Hmm… They normally use it to defend themselves, so… I think yes.

Flora slumped when she heard that.

Flora: That means… I failed this part of the Trial…

Seeing her new friend depressed, Yuu tried to cheer Flora up.

Yuu: H-Hey, the Trial isn't over yet. You can still pass it!

Flora knew that was true as she smiled at her.

Flora: You're right… Let's keep going, Yuu.

With that, Yuu and Flora continued on ahead, passing the now harmless Dreamy Little Angels.

However, they didn't come far as they reached the end of the road. There were no more clouds for them to walk.

Flora: Where should we go now?

Flora asked herself. Yuu then noticed a Fountain Fairy nearby, and he seemed to be lost in thought as he watched the end of the road.

Fountain Fairy: Hmmm…

Yuu: What's wrong?

The Fountain Fairy turned to Yuu before addressing her.

Fountain Fairy: Why, this cloud's tree has fallen asleep… Why, there are no more clouds to continue ahead…

Yuu and Flora looked at the end of the road, now seeing why it is here.

Yuu: Wah, you're right. This is bad… How can we wake the tree up?

Fountain Fairy: Why, if you surprise the tree's stump, it may just awaken…

Yuu was confused.

Yuu: How do you do that?

Fountain Fairy: Why, by striking it, of course… Why, the sword you wield may do just the trick…

Yuu looked at the Stone Sword that she was still holding in her hand.

Yuu: S-So I just have to hit it, right? Okay then. Do you know where the stump is?

Fountain Fairy: Why, it's in the North of here… Why, you should bring this…

The Fountain Fairy handed Yuu a Mysterious Twig that's wrapped around in spirals.

Yuu: Um… What do I do with this?

Fountain Fairy: Why, with this, the clouds blocking the path will make way for you…

Yuu: Got it! Thank you, Mr. Fairy!

Following the direction the Fairy showed, Yuu and Flora headed up North.

Yuu: Um… do you think Mr. Fairy forgot to tell us?

Flora: He did…

Yuu and Flora stood in front of another cloudless path, with the road up ahead not being far. There's also a strong updraft.

Yuu: How can we cross this?

Flora then noticed the updraft, and feeling how strong the wind was, she got an idea.

Flora: Yuu, I have an idea. Hold on to me.

Yuu wondered what Flora's idea was, but she didn't question it as she wrapped her arms tight around Flora's waist.

Flora then pulled out a pink umbrella and furled it open.

Flora: Alright, hold on tight, Yuu!

Flora and Yuu then jumped over, but they didn't fall as Flora's umbrella caught the updraft and lifted Flora up while Yuu held on her waist.

The wind carried them to the other side until they landed safely.

Yuu: We made it!

Yuu was glad that they were able to reach the other side.

Flora: Now we know how Fountain Fairies can cross over.

Yuu and Flora laughed heartily.

As Yuu and Flora continued up North, they noticed a chest in the middle of the path.

Yuu: Huh? A Treasure Chest?

Yuu slowly approached the chest while Flora looked warelly at it.

Flora: Be careful, Yuu!

Yuu reached the chest and slowly opened it, and what was inside were… a pair of eyes staring at her back.

Yuu: EH!?

Yuu stepped back as the chest stood up on black feline legs, the edges of the chest mouth sprouted sharp teeth, and Cat ears can be seen from inside the chest.

Flora: Yuu, look out!

Yuu had her Stone Sword ready, right when the Monster attacked!

Yuu parried back the Monster's bite and hit back with her sword. However, Yuu noticed that her sword only gave a scratch.

The Box Monster attacked again and knocked Yuu off her feet.

Flora: Yuu!

Teh Box Monster tried to bite again, but Yuu held it back with her sword, but it was only a matter of time before Yuu's strength gives out.

Flora tried to think fast in order to figure out how to help Yuu, until she got a grip and brought her pink umbrella.

Yuu's strength started to wane, but before the Box Monster got close to bite Yuu, Flora suddenly wacked the Monster on his back with her umbrella.

Box Monster: Urgh…

The Monster got his bearings back, until he noticed a shadow above and saw it was Flora raising her umbrella.

Flora: Stay. Away. From. YUU!

With every word she said, Flora hit hard on the Monsters face, while Yuu watched with open mouth.

Flora calmed herself down as she looked at the Monster who was unconscious, until it suddenly burped and flying out of his mouth was some sort of sword that landed near Yuu.

Flora: Yuu!

Flora hurried to Yuu as she helped her get up.

Flora: Are you alright, Yuu?

Yuu: Yeah. But Flora…

Yuu looked at Flora with sparkles in her eyes.

Yuu: You were soo COOL!

Flora felt flattered and embarrassed at Yuu looking at her like that. She then noticed her umbrella and saw that it was broken.

Yuu: Oh no… your umbrella…

Flora gave Yuu a reasuring smile.

Flora: Don't worry, Yuu, I have a spare.

Flora pulled out a small pink handbag and put the broken umbrella in it, which Yuu noticed since the umbrella was bigger than the bag.

Flora then pulled out a new umbrella. It was light blue and had blue polkadots with yellow ribbons. Flora then opened and held the umbrella behind her. Yuu was surprised at that.

Yuu: Whoa! You have one too?!

Flora: It was a gift from my Dad.

Yuu has a magic toolbox that can store many items. She didn't expect to see a handbag that has a similar power.

Flora and Yuu then turned towards the unconscious Monster.

Flora: What kind of Monster is that?

Yuu: That's a Treasure Cat, a Monster of the Boxcat Tribe. The ambush by pretending to be treasures, even though they do have it.

Yuu then took notice of the sword that landed nearby. It was a silver sword with a crescent hilt and the blade was shaped like 2 flowing currents. Yuu picked it up and noticed how light it was.

Yuu: Huh? It's very light. Is this even a sword?

Yuu swung the sword to test it, and sure enough it made the slashing noises of a real sword.

Flora: It seems that it is.

Yuu and Flora then continued on ahead, only to be stopped by a wall of clouds blocking their way.

Flora: Now how do we get over this?

Yuu crossed her arms to think until she remembered the Weird Stick the Fountain Fairy gave her.

Now holding the stick in hand, she waved it and magic sparkles came from the tip and the wall of clouds, causing it to disperse.

Flora: It worked!

Now able to continue on ahead, Yuu and Flora found what they were looking for. A cloud tree stump with plenty of holes in it.

Flora: According to the Fairy, you have to hit it, right?

Yuu nodded as she pulled out her Stone Sword, and then she struck the cloud tree stump. A few seconds later, the tree suddenly started shaking.

Yuu: Is the tree shaking!?

The tree stopped shaking, and Flora knew what this meant.

Flora: The tree must have woken up. Let's go back!

Yuu and Flora made it all the way back from where they started, and saw that the cloud path had been restored. The Fountain Fairy turned to them once they came.

Yuu: Mr. Fairy, we did it!

Fountain Fairy: Why, this tree's cloud has been awoken. I thank you…

Now that the path has been restored, Yuu and Flora continue moving forward with the trial.

A few hours later, Yuu and Flora were getting tired as they've been walking for a while.

Yuu: How long… have we been… walking?

Flora: An hour…

Both Yuu and Flora fell on their knees.

Yuu: I'm so tired… I can't walk anymore.

Flora: Let's rest again before we walk again.

But as Yuu and Flora were about to rest, they heard a heavenly voice.

?: Are you kids alright?

Yuu and Flora looked up and their jaws dropped at what they saw.

Yuu: You're a…

Flora: Dream Seapony…

Floating in front of them is a beautiful Dream Seapony of the Seapony Tribe.

She's a large flying pale white Seahorse. She has different shades of pink around her waist as well as on her tail, which then ends in a black color. Her front fins are feather-like and have black tips. Near the end of her tail, at the sides of her hips and at the beginning of her waist are pink feathers. There's also a black crown-shaped fin behind her back. Her serene face is that of a Seahorse with pink eyelashes, curly upwards black hair behind her back and black large spots on her chest, and two pink feathers on top of her head in a V position that also ends with black tips.

The Dream Seapony laughed seeing Yuu and Flora's awed faces.

Dream Seapony: (Giggles)... You know it's rude to stare.

Yuu and Flora snapped out of their stupor.

Flora: Sorry…

Yuu: I've heard of Dream Seaponies, but I never thought they were so beautiful!

Dream Seapony: Well that's so nice of you to say. My name is Serene. Come. If kids are tired you can rest on my nest.

Yuu and Flora eagerly got up and followed the beautiful creature.

They arrived at Serene's nest, which is made up of clouds that are very fluffy and made to sleep on it. Serene laid on her nest as she addressed the two girls.

Serene: Come on and rest. I wouldn't mind if you lean on me.

Yuu was the first and she laid at Serene's side. Flora was up next, but Serene stopped as she wrapped a fin around her.

Serene: Come here.

Flora: Huh?

Serene pulled Flora to her. She laid her side on her chest as she had her fins wrapped around Flora.

Serene: Comfy?

Flora: Yeah…

Yuu and Flora were very comfortable and happy now that they were able to rest with such a beautiful creature.

Serene: Wouldn't you girls like to hear a song?

Yuu: Oh yes!

Yuu and Flora knew that Dream Seaponies have the most beautiful singing voice, as the colors of the rainbow.

Serene then began to sing. Just like the stories, her voice was so very beautiful. What Yuu and Flora didn't realize was that she was singing a lullaby to put them to sleep.

Yuu: I feel so… Zzzz…

Yuu was the first to fall asleep.

Flora was also about to sleep, until she manages to keep herself awake.

Flora: No… Must not fall asleep… I still have to… go…

Serene stopped singing as she looked down at the girl she has wrapped in her fins.

Serene: Why do you have to push yourself, my dear? In the Fountain World, there are no worries here. You can relax living here if you want.

While it sounded tempting, Flora didn't want that.

Flora: No… I have to help my Dad… and my people… I must… pass this trail… to protect… them…

Serene was silent for a moment before singing her lullaby again. Flora fell asleep this time.

Flora: Zzzz…

Serene stopped singing as she looked at the sleeping girl.

Serene: You're determined to protect your people and your Father, despite running away from that terrifying illusion, yet you wish to keep going forward for them, no matter how scared you are… He… Perhaps you can pass this trial, Flora.

She nuzzled Flora's head as she and Yuu slep peacefully.

Serene: Wake up, girls. Open your eyes now~.

Yuu and Flora opened their eyes. They groggerly got up and rubbed their eyes.

Yuu: What happened?

Serene: You girls were having a nice sleep, so with a little help from the Unicorn Rabbits, they put you on my back so I can bring you to where you need to go.

Yuu and Flora noticed that they were indeed on Serene's back, and in front of them is a wall of clouds with an opening in it.

Flora: Where are we?

Flora and Yuu got off Serene's as they looked at the entrance.

Serene: This is where your next trial will begin. First you have to reveal the honesty in your heart, and when you pass you will face the final trial.

Flora and Yuu were surprised and happy that Serene helped them.

Flora: Thank you, Miss Serene!

Serene: (Giggles)...! Please, only Serene is fine.

Yuu and Flora then faced the entrance, where the next trial is.

Flora: Alright! Here we go!

Yuu: By, Serene! I hope we see you again!

Yuu and Flora walked towards the tunnel entrance as Serene watched.

Serene: Good luck, Flora. Because this final trail will be hard as it will test the shadow in your heart.

Yuu and Flora entered a spacious room, with the only thing being here is a stone bird statue that the two approached.

Yuu: A statue?

Flora: There's something written on it… but I can't read it.

Yuu looked at the writing and sure it was in a language unknown to them. However…

Yuu: Hmm…I don't know… but I can read it.

Flora turned to Yuu in surprise.

Flora: Huh?! You can?!

Yuu nodded as she began reading.

Yuu: "A question, I ask of you: Which is more important, strenght or kindness? Go left for strength: right for kindness."

Flora and Yuu began thinking about what the question said.

Yuu: Which is more important: strenght or kindness?

Yuu cannot figure it out, but Flora did.

Flora: If a person has only strength, it wouldn't be a great person if they don't have kindness.

Yuu looked at Flora as she now understood.

Yuu: So what's important is…

Flora: Kindness!

Just as Flora said it, the right side of the wall of clouds cleared to reveal a passage.

Yuu: Huh? Another passage?

Yuu and Flora walked through the passage to move forward.

Yuu and Flora are now in another room and saw another stone bird statue.

Yuu: Huh? Another one?

Yuu and Flora now understand that this is part of the trial. Yuu began reading to see the next question.

Yuu: "If you could only save one, who would you choose? Go left for your Parents: right for village."

Flora quickly answered the question.

Flora: The village of course! My Parents and everyone in the village are precious to me!

Another passage started to clear. Yuu and Flora passed through the next room.

As before, there's another stone bird statue here.

Yuu: "Are Monsters an evil that must be quelled? Go left for yes: right for no."

Of course, both girls know the answer.

Flora and Yuu: NO!

They wasted no time as they went to the next room.

In the next room, Yuu read the statue there, but was surprised at what it said, which Flora noticed.

Flora: Huh? What's wrong, Yuu? What does it say?

Yuu: It says… "Are you prepared to face your heart's darkness? Go left for yes: right for no."

Flora stiffened when she heard that question, but took a deep breath to calm herself down. She was quiet for a moment before she opened her eyes filled with determination.

Flora: Yes. If it's to save my Dad and my people.

With her resolved set, a new passage was opened, and Yuu and Flora wandered to it knowing this would be the hardest trial of all.

Yuu and Flora had exited the room and now reached the end of their path.

Flora: Is that… a black fountain, I wonder…?

In front of them was a fountain as dark as the night. It emitted an ominous aura unlike the warm, gentle aura of the pink fountain.

Gentle voice: I'm glad to see you two have made it thus far. Your trial is nearing its end.

A voice resounded inside Yuu's and Flora's heads.

Yuu: It's end? Is the trial now over?

Gentle voice: No, you still have more to face ahead of you.

The surface of the fountain rippled. From it gushed a muddy, black form which undulated and wriggled about before forming a familiar sight.

Flora: That's… me…?

The black figure before them was the spitting image of Flora.

Gentle voice: This is the darkness that lies within your heart. It is cowardice.

Flora: Cowardice…

Flora held her heart when she heard this figure is her cowardice.

Gentle voice: This darkness weakens your heart. Your last trial is to overcome it, and cast out the darkness.

Flora: Overcome… my heart's weakness…

Flora steeled herself as she glared at her other self. The black figure returned the gaze. Then…

Flora: O-Oh…

Flora suddenly began trembling.

Yuu noticed there was something wrong with Flora as her expression turned fearful.

Yuu: Flora! What's wrong!

Yuu rushed to Flora's side.

Flora: Ah… How awful… The Demon King… He's attacking our Kingdom… Everyone is…

Fear having taken over her, Flora crouches.

Gentle voice: Flora is being assaulted by her heart's weakness. She must conquer it, lest she be consumed by it.

Flora trembled quietly, her heart seemingly already broken by the despair.

Flora's nightmare played from the depths of her heart. The luscious gardens and streams were being destroyed, her Father and his loyal servants succumbing to the Monsters. The Princess was powerless to stop them.

Flora: I'm so useless… I can only cower in fear…

Flore was on her knees and her eyes closed with her hands as the Monsters surrounded her.

?: –ight! It's–right!

That voice…

?: It's alright! Everythings okay, Flora!

It's alright…? What is…?

The image in front of her shattered like glass, and in the light was the brave Yuu.

Yuu: Because… I'll defeat the Demon King!

The nightmare loosened its grip on Flora's heart.

Back in the waking world, Flora looked at Yuu in shock at what she just said.

Flora: Yuu…!? How can you say such a thing!?

Yuu: Hehe… because I'm the Hero's daughter!

Flora could not believe that a child would be capable of defeating the Demon King. However, inspired by Yuu's brimming confidence, courage began swelling up inside Flora.

Yuu: Of course. We only have to defeat the Demon King.

Flora stood up slowly, turning and pointing towards her shadow as she shouted.

Flora: That is why I will not lose to a mere forgery before then!

With Yuu's help, Flora had conquered her heart's weakness and could now confront her shadow. With Flora's Polkadot Parasol and Yuu's Stone Sword, they both attacked Flora's Darkness.

But as they got closer, Flora's Darkness lifted a hand and released a hot wind. Flora quickly stood in front of Yuu and raised her Polkadot Umbrella.

Flora: Mmgh!

Flora held on as she was pushed back while Yuu held on. When the winds stopped, Yuu was surprised that they're okay.

Yuu: You… blocked it…?

Yuu was surprised that Flora's umbrella managed to block the attack.

Flora: This umbrella is made of special material, unlike the previous one.

Yuu and Flora faced back the shadow look-alike.

Yuu: She has magic.

Flora: Yeah…

Both Yuu and Flora knew this wouldn't be easy.

Yuu jumped over the shadow for a Jump Slash. However, the shadow blocked the attack with her umbrella, which took Yuu by surprise as it left her open. The shadow then attacked by summoning an icy wind from her hand, pushing Yuu back and sending her sword flying, which froze in the process as it landed.

Flora: Yuu!

Flora went to Yuu's aid by blocking the icy winds with her umbrella. It froze over, but the ice quickly shattered before Flora checked on Yuu.

Flora: Are you okay, Yuu?

Yuu got up as she looked at Flora.

Yuu: Yeah… let me get my sword first.

Yuu went to get her Stone Sword, but now she noticed that it was frozen.

Yuu: Oh no! My sword is frozen.

Yuu went to grab the hilt of the sword, but flinched since the ice was freezing.

Yuu: It's too cold! (And I left my Wooden Sword back home.)

Yuu recalled(in chibi)how she left the Wooden Sword at her Father's Den since she didn't have much use for it so she left it there.

Yuu: (Now what'll I do?!)

At that moment, the shadow was building magic which Flora noticed.

Flora: Yuu! Something big is coming!

They all watched the shadow create a big orb in her hand and fired it in the sky, which spit in a shower of stars straight at Yuu and Flora!

Flora: Look out!

Yuu and Flora quickly dodged all the star showers, though it wasn't easy with the shockwaves of the explosions. Yuu and Flora escaped with only a few scratches.

Yuu: Pant, pant… How can we defeat someone that can use magic?

Flora: Pant… by using my own magic.

Yuu looked at Flora in surprise.

Yuu: You can do magic!?

Flora: I only have enough strength for one magic attack. But to make it count, we have to distract her.

Yuu: But how? I no longer have a sword!

Flora: No, you do have one. Remember the sword you found?

Yuu recalled the unique sword she found as she pulled it out of her toolbox. It still felt light in her hands.

Yuu: I hope this sword works.

The shadow then gathered magic in her hand and fired another shower of stars.

Flora: Look out, Yuu!

Yuu began dodging the star showers, but then she realized she moved faster than normal as she dodged the shower with ease.

Yuu: (Huh? I'm fast? But how did I…)

Yuu then looked at her new sword, and she pieced it together.

Yuu: (I see… My Stone Sword was heavy so I trained hard to be able to move better with it. But this sword… is light!)

Yuu picked up speed as she ran straight towards the shadow. The shadow tried to block with her umbrella, but Yuu was too fast as she did a Gale Slash, passing through the shadow while slashing her. The shadow was stunned and this is the moment they needed.

Yuu: Now, Flora!

Flora raised a hand filled with magic in the air, and falling out of the sky was a single star that fell straight on the shadow, making an explosion.

Yuu and Flora regrouped as the smoke cleared and saw the shadow still standing, albeit weakly as she shakely raised a hand for another magic attack.

Flora: She's going to attack again!

Yuu acted quickly as she did a Jump Slash on the shadow. This final attack finally made the shadow succumb as it disappeared in black smoke.

Flora: Huff… Huff… W-We did it…

Yuu: Yeah… We won, Flora!

They had successfully defeated Flora's other self.

The pink glow had returned to the sinister-looking fountain as Flora's shadow dissipated.

Fountain Spirit: An excellent display, Flora. You have now passed the fountain's trial.

Once again, the Fountain Spirit's voice echoed in the girls' minds.

Fountain Spirit: As promised, I shall help fulfill your wish…

Before their excitement got the better of them, a fragment of some sort rose from the fountain, glowing a bright pink. At the same time…

Flora: Y-Yuu. Your toolbox is glowing.

Something shimmered from within Yuu's toolbox. As she reached to take it out…

Yuu: Papa's sword… it's so shiny…

Her Papa's broken sword, which is glowing pink, was reacting to the glowing fragment hovering above the fountain.

Fountain Spirit: This is the other half of the Hero's sword. It shall now be returned to you, his daughter. Now please, present your sword.

When Yuu held out the sword towards the fragment, the two pieces emitted a blinding light. When it faded, Yuu had a complete sword in her hands.

Yuu: W-Waaah! Papa's sword! It's fixed!

The sword was heavier in Yuu's hands than her Stone Sword, the power it emitted coursing through her. It felt like she could take on the world.

Fountain Spirit: One day, this sword shall prove its worth. This is the fountain's blessing. To return home, leap into the fountain once more.

Yuu and Flora turned to the glowing pink fountain which was once pure black.

Fountain Spirit: May the fountain's blessing be upon you and your companions on your journey hence…

With that, the Fountain Spirit was silent.

Flora: So… You really are the Hero's daughter.

Yuu turned to Flora, who was looking at her in awe as she was finally seeing her as the Hero's daughter.

Yuu: Huh!? You didn't believe me!?

Flora: One could easily have lied to gain someone's trust… But I was nonetheless saved thanks to you. Not to mention that my wish was granted.

Hearing that, Yuu looked at her Papa's fixed sword, which she realized was her wish that's been granted.

Yuu: But… It feels more like my wish was granted in having my sword fixed… I feel like I stole your wish…

Yuu was distraught, but Flora reassured her.

Flora: That's not true! I believed when you said you would defeat the Demon King. For me, just meeting you means my wish was granted.

Encouraged by Flora's words, Yuu gazed down at her reconstructed sword, strengthening her resolve in defeating the Demon King.

Flora: Well, guess we should head back then.

Yuu and Flora held hands as they got ready to jump into the fountain.

Yuu and Flora: Ready, set, go!

The two girls leapt into the fountain together, going back to their world. The Fountain Spirit watched them from afar.

Fountain Spirit: I hope to see you soon, Yuu.

-The Blooming Forest-

Back in their own world, Yuu and Flora spotted the Soldier who seemed flustered at their return.

Soldier: Ahh, P-Princess Floraaa!

Seeing her, the Soldier rushed over to Flora, crying all the way as he dropped on his knees.

Flora explained that, thanks to Yuu's assistance, she was able to accomplish her goal. The Soldier bowed repeatedly as he thanked Yuu. Flora didn't want to leave so soon after returning, but she was dragged away reluctantly by the Soldier, saying they were needed back in the Kingdom.

Yuu: Ahh… There they go… We didn't get to say our goodbyes…

Yuu was sad to see her very first Human friend had to leave so abruptly. She then noticed that it was starting to become night time.

Yuu: Oh! It's this late already!? I've gotta get home!

Yuu made haste to the Monster Village where she rejoined with the Dragon King and returned to their mountain den.

-Throne Room, Dragon King's Den, Hillside Mountain-

Again, Yuu rambled about her excursions that day. Everyone was present at the Throne Room, even Arthur, but everyone had doubts about Yuu actually having found the Fountain World. Even the Dragon King found her story hard to believe.

Yuu: And that's not all! When we completed the Trial, I was given the one thing that we've been all looking for!

Yuu pulled out something out of her toolbox, and showed everyone in the Throne Room the fixed Hero's Sword.

Yuu: Tada!

Everyone was in shock at seeing the Hero Sword complete and fixed, even Arthur and the Dragon King was shocked.

Yuu: This is why Arthur wasn't able to find the fragment of Papa's sword, it was in another world! Sorry, Arthur!

Dragon King: Yuu… This is incredible!

All the Monsters came to congratulate Yuu for finding the missing fragment of the Hero Sword.

The Dragon King was quiet as he watched Yuu holding the sword of the Hero.

-Nest, Dragon King's Den, Hillside Mountain-

As bedtime arrived, Yuu and the Dragon King went to their nest as they talked about what Yuu had achieved.

Dragon King: You certainly had an eventful day, Yuu.

Yuu replied with a triumphant nod.

Yuu: Oh, and Dad, I made a promise with my new friend.

This brought a smile to the Dragon King, since he was glad that Yuu made a Human friend.

Dragon King: Did you? And what would that be?

Yuu: Well, that I'm going to defeat the Demon King!

The Dragon King was silent for a moment, before patting Yuu's head.

Dragon King: That's right… You will become a great hero by defeating the Demon King. That's why you've been training so hard.

The Dragon King spoke gently, then slowly closed his eyes.

Yuu: Yup! Hehe… But that actually made me wonder… Where is the Demon King right now? Do you know, Dad?

Dragon King: I have heard rumblings of where he might be… It will take some time, but I will look into it.

Yuu: Yay! Thanks a bunch! Ah…I'm getting nervous! I wonder if I'll really be able to defeat him…

The Dragon King patted her head again to calm her down.

Dragon King: I know you will, Yuu… I know.

Yuu then started going to sleep, while the Dragon King looked at her with a solemn look.

-Secret Hideout, Hillside Mountain-

Later, after Yuu had drifted off to sleep… The Dragon King was in his secret hideout at the foot of the mountain. Here, one could hear not a snore from the Monsters, only the chirping of insects echoing over them.

Dragon King: Hero… It's been some time since you entrusted Yuu to me… What a strange thing, leaving your child with the Demon King… But you've never been one for the ordinary, have you…?

He spoke to the grave made for the Hero.

Dragon King: You told me, back then, to raise the child well.

He reminisced quietly in memories with the Hero.

Dragon King: Finally, my promise will be fulfilled. The day fast approaches where Yuu will defeat the Demon King and become a great hero herself.

The Dragon King closed his eyes before opening them again to look at the grave.

Dragon King: That is all for today…

The Dragon King turned, ready to depart.

Not ready to leave just yet, the Dragon King called out into the night sky.

Dragon King: Are you there, Arthur?

Arthur descended from the trees on his string and was now in front of the Dragon King.

Arthur: Yes, your Majesty.

Dragon King: Arthur, it's time to begin the plan.

Arthur left after receiving his orders. Then the Dragon King flapped his wings and took off, disappearing into the night.
