Blue's New School
A.N. Before we get on the road with this oneshot, I am pleased to announce that I made it to Colorado safe and sound, and I am hoping to get back into the swing of things here on FanFiction relatively soon. Until my next story, enjoy this newest addition to the Blue's Clues Oneshots collection, and stay tuned for my next story.
One day, Blue and Sprinkles were at Magenta's house talking with Magenta in her bedroom. It was the last weekend of summer vacation, and it was the subject of coversation between the three pups.
"Man, I can't believe we're starting kindergarten next week." said Blue.
"Yeah, I know." agreed Magenta. "It's sad that Miss Marigold won't be our teacher anymore."
"Yeah..." sighed Sprinkles. "But at the same time, I'm pretty excited to meet our new teacher."
"I am too." his sister put in. "I wonder who it will be."
"Whoever it is, I hope they will be just as nice as Miss Marigold." said Sprinkles.
"You can be sure they will." said a voice.
It was Magenta's owner, Miranda, who was just coming into the room, and she had overheard the whole thing.
"Blue, Sprinkles, Steve's here." she said. "It's time for you two to go home."
"Okay." said Blue. "See you later, Magenta."
Blue and Sprinkles bid goodbye to Magenta and left the house with Steve.
"Say, you two, how's about we go to that new Culver's that opened up recently for dinner?" Steve asked as they walked to their house.
"Oh, yes, please!" grinned Blue.
Steve chuckled.
"So be it, then." he said. "Let's round up Joe and Josh and we'll go."
And so they did, and it wasn't long before Steve, Joe (who was wearing his purple shirt), Josh, and the two pups are driving to the Culver's restaurant in Steve, Joe, and Josh's shared 1974 Volkswagen Thing. They soon arrived and got their meals, with Steve having a medium Double Culver's Deluxe combo with cheese, lettuce, and pickles, Joe having a medium Double Sourdough Melt combo minus the onions, Josh having a medium Mushroom & Swiss combo, and Blue and Sprinkles both having kids' meals consisting of Grilled Cheeses and small crinkle-cut fries on the side and small drinks, but while Blue had Minute Maid Lemonade, Sprinkles had Hi-C Fruit Punch. As for Steve, Joe, and Josh, all three of them were having Culver's Signature Root Beer. While they ate, they talked about the upcoming start to the school year.
"You know, Blue and Sprinkles, there's something we've been meaning to tell you." said Joe.
"What is it?" asked Sprinkles.
"You two will be starting kindergarten at the K-12 school Sarah and Jazz go to." said Steve.
Blue and Sprinkles' eyes lit up with excitement.
"Really?" asked Sprinkles.
"That's right." nodded Josh as he had a sip of his drink.
"Cool!" grinned Blue. "I wonder if Magenta, Orange Kitten, Purple Kangaroo, and all our other friends will be there."
"I'm sure they will." said Steve. "In fact, you'll probably get your answer on Monday. Speaking of, that school is further away from our house than your old school was, so you need to make sure you two are up on time."
"Yes, Steve." Blue nodded.
Soon, Monday arrived, and the morning found Blue and Sprinkles riding in the back seat of the Thing. Joe, who was now wearing his red shirt, was at the wheel. Both pups had their backpacks and lunchboxes packed and ready to go.
"I can't wait to see what our new school looks like." said Blue.
"Neither can I." said Sprinkles. "I bet it's gonna be really big!"
"Well, your wait isn't much longer now." said Joe. "Because we're almost there!"
As Joe was saying that, they drove by a sign that said "Trey Whitney K-12 School", and soon came upon a large building. The two pups gazed at the sight of it.
"Wow, you were right, Sprinkles." Blue gasped. "That is a big school! Even bigger than our old one!"
It wasn't long before Joe pulled the Thing up to the main entrance of the school.
"Here we are." said Joe. "Have a good day, you two, and I'll come pick you up later."
"Okay, Joe." said Blue as she and Sprinkles disembarked. "Bye, Joe!"
Joe waved goodbye to Blue and Sprinkles as he drove away. The two pups then began making their way inside the school, where they soon found Stocking Head with Sarah and Jazz waiting for them in the lobby.
"Hey, Blue! Sprinkles!" Stocking Head greeted.
"Hey, Stocking Head, my man!" Blue replied.
"Hi, Sarah and Jazz." Sprinkles said.
Sarah and Jazz went about greeting the two pups.
"So, you guys ready for your first day of kindergarten?" asked Sarah.
"You bet." said Blue.
Just then, another person joined the group. This one was a tall fair-skinned man in his late thirties with a slight muscular build and dressed in a black blazer over a white dress shirt, gray slacks, a yellow tie, black dress shoes, and black thick-rimmed glasses over his blue eyes. His thick brown hair was neatly parted to one side. The man looked down at Blue and Sprinkles with a friendly smile.
"Well, hello there." the man greeted. "I'm very pleased to meet you both. You must be Blue and Sprinkles."
"Hello, sir." Blue greeted.
"What's your name?" Sprinkles asked. "And are you mine and Blue's new teacher?"
"Something like that." the man chuckled. "I'm Mr. Perkins, and I'm actually the principal."
"That means he's in charge of the whole school." said Sarah.
"That's right." added Jazz.
"Okay, Blue and Sprinkles, let's get you two assigned to your class." Mr. Perkins then said. "I'll be right back."
Mr. Perkins then went inside his office, and came back with two slips of paper.
"Here you are." he said. "There are signs on the walls that will direct you to your classroom."
"Thanks, Mr. Perkins." said Blue. "Come on, Sprinkles!"
With that, Blue and her brother, along with Stocking Head, parted ways with Sarah and Jazz, and they began making their way to their assigned classroom, Room 113. They walked inside the classroom, and were delighted to see Magenta, along with their friends Orange Kitten and Purple Kangaroo. Sprinkles' friend Periwinkle was also there, along with their other friend Duck. There were also some other kids neither Blue nor Sprinkles had met before. While Blue and Stocking Head sat with Magenta and Orange Kitten, Sprinkles sat with Periwinkle and Purple Kangaroo.
"I wonder who the teacher is." said Blue, noticing the absence of an adult in the room.
Just as Blue said that, the door opened and a man walked in. The man was African-American with blue hair in a flat top haircut and was dressed in a yellowish-orange polo shirt tucked into a pair of blue jeans, a brown belt, and shoes in the same color as his shirt.
"Good morning, class." the man greeted. "I'm Mister Marigold, your teacher."
Blue and Sprinkles were surprised to hear the man's name.
"I wonder if he's related to Miss Marigold." Sprinkles thought out loud.
"I am, as a matter of fact." Mister Marigold replied, having heard Sprinkles' comment. "She's my twin sister."
"Well, that explains everything." said Blue. "I didn't even know Miss Marigold had a brother."
"Well, you do now." Mister Marigold chuckled.
Just then, Mr. Perkins' voice came on the school's P.A. system.
"Good morning, Trey Whitney K-12 School." said Mr. Perkins. "Before we proceed with the morning announcements, please stand for the Pledge of Allegience."
Everyone did as Mr. Perkins instructed. Then, Mr. Perkins led everyone in Mister Marigold's class and across the school in reciting the Pledge of Allegience. After the pledge, Mr. Percival gave out the rest of the announcements, announcing that the day's lunch was either grilled cheese sandwiches or French toast sticks. Both entrees came with tater tots on the side, along with a choice of fresh orange wedges or grapes. In addition, students were provided with a choice of either apple, orange, or grape juice and either white, chocolate, or strawberry milk to drink with their lunches. Dessert for the day was chocolate bundt cake or an assortment of cookies, as well as ice cream. After making a few more announcements, Mr. Percival signed off the P.A. system.
"Okay, kids, before we start class, we have some new students joining us today; Blue, Sprinkles, Magenta, Stocking Head, Purple Kangaroo, Orange Kitten, Periwinkle, and Duck."
Blue and her friends introduced themselves to their new classmates. After introductions were made, Mister Marigold showed his new students to their cubbies, where they put their lunchboxes and backpacks, then took their seats. Afterwards, Mister Marigold took a roll call, and all students were marked as "present".
"Alright, now that we've met our new friends, let's get the day started with our Brain Buster." Mister Marigold said.
Mister Marigold went over to a whiteboard, picked up a red marker, and wrote a big letter 'E'. Then, he took a black marker and wrote the word "anything" four times from top to bottom next to the 'E'.
"Now then, who knows the answer to this one?" he asked. "Anyone? Anyone at all?"
"I think I do." said Blue, raising her hand.
"Okay, Blue." nodded Mister Marigold. "What is it?"
"'Ready for anything'." said Blue.
"Very good, Blue." Mister Marigold smiled. "Now that we've busted today's Brain Buster, let's move right along."
With that, class resumed, and soon, it was time for lunch. The students grabbed their lunchboxes and went to the cafeteria. When Blue, Sprinkles, and their friends stepped into the cafeteria, they were amazed at what they saw. The room was packed with tables that students of all ages and grades were sitting at. There was also a salad bar at one end of the room and a dessert bar next to it. It wasn't long before Blue, Stocking Head, and Magenta found a table that Sarah and Jazz were sitting at. With them was a boy around Sarah's age who had tan skin, dark blue eyes, feathered black hair, and was dressed in a dark blue denim shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, lighter blue jeans, and brown cowboy boots. Sarah introduced the boy as her friend Billy, whose family owned the ranch where she took her horseriding lessons.
"Nice to meet you." said Billy.
"You too." said Sprinkles.
"So, Blue, how are you and your friends liking the school so far?" asked Jazz.
"It's greally great!" Sprinkles grinned. "Our teacher, Mister Marigold, is just as nice as his sister!"
"Good to hear." said Sarah. "By the way, the lunches served here at school are very different than your typical school lunches."
"How so?" asked Periwinkle as he ate a bite out of his roast beef sandwich.
"Well, for one thing, all the food here is made fresh daily." said Billy. "From the vegetables for the salad bar to the bread used for the sandwiches and even the baked goods at the dessert bar."
"That was Dad's idea." said Sarah. "He believed students' meals should have that "just like Mother makes" feeling."
"And here's something interesting." added Jazz. "When the school first opened, Dad was actually the first principal, and Mr. Perkins was the vice principal."
"And let me guess; Mr. Perkins took over after Mr. Whitney's death." said Magenta.
"He did indeed." nodded Sarah. "Mr. Perkins was one of Dad's closest friends, and he was so devastated by the loss that he decided to re-name the school after him in his honor. In fact, Mr. Perkins was actually with Mom at Dad's bedside when the Lord came and took him home to heaven."
"Wow." said Sprinkles. "Talk about friends to the end."
"Indeed." his sister agreed.
Later, after lunch, the kids were back in Mister Marigold's classroom for Story Time. Mister Marigold had already picked out a book to read to the kids.
"So, is everyone ready for Story Time?" he asked.
"Yes!" the kids cried.
"Okay, then." said Mister Marigold. "Today, we're going to be reading "Giggle Giggle Quack" by Doreen Cronin."
"That's my favorite!" Sprinkles grinned.
"Good to hear, Sprinkles." said Mister Marigold. "Alright, let's begin."
With that, Mister Marigold began reading the story to the kids, who laughed along. After the story, the kids went outside for recess. Blue and Sprinkles were quick to notice how the school's playground looked compared to their old school. Aside from the usual playground equipment, there was also a track that some students were riding tricycles on. In addition, there were also tetherball and basketball courts, and three wooden play structures, one built to look like a train, one build to look like a monster truck, and one built to look like a pirate ship, as well as a large sandpit that had two excavators in them.
"Wowee kazowie!" said Sprinkles. "So many things to do!"
"Yeah!" said Purple Kangaroo.
It wasn't long before everyone found a thing to do, with Blue, Magenta, and Orange Kitten riding trikes, Stocking Head and Purple Kangaroo playing in the sandpit, and Sprinkles and Periwinkle playing on the pirate ship play structure.
"Boy, I wish I had one of these at home!" said Sprinkles as he turned the ship's steering wheel.
"Me too!" agreed Periwinkle as he got ready to slide down the slide at the boat's stern.
Meanwhile, Blue, Magenta, and Orange Kitten were having fun pedaling their trikes along the track.
"This is so fun!" grinned Blue.
"I know, right?!" agreed Magenta.
"I so wish we had something like this at our old school!" finished Orange Kitten.
"Me too!" said Blue.
A while later, it was time for the students to head home. Steve came to pick Blue and Sprinkles up in the Thing.
"So, how was your first day at your new school?" Steve asked.
"It was awesome!" said Blue. "I can't wait to tell you all about it!"
"Neither can I!" added Sprinkles.
Steve chuckled.
"Well, I can't wait to hear about it." he said.
Soon, they arrived home, and Blue and Sprinkles excitedly told everyone about their first day at their new school.
"And after lunch, we had Arts & Crafts Time." Blue was saying. "We all made sculptures with air-drying clay."
"Fascinating." said Steve. "What did you guys make?"
"I made a turtle." Blue replied.
"And I made the Superman logo!" Sprinkles grinned.
"That's nice." said Joe. "But why didn't you bring them home?"
"Mister Marigold said to leave our sculptures behind so they can harden overnight." Blue explained. "That way, tomorrow, we can all paint our sculptures, and then we can bring them home when the paint is dry."
"Well, that makes perfect sense." said Steve. "We can't wait to see your creations."
"Neither can we." Blue agreed, speaking on behalf of herself and her brother.
"And Mister Marigold is really nice, too." added Sprinkles. "I'm glad we have him as our teacher."
"It sounds to me like you two had a great day, alright." said Josh.
"Yeah!" grinned Sprinkles. "I can't wait for tomorrow!"
"Well, we're all glad you guys had a good day." Joe smiled.
"Thanks, Joe." Blue smiled. "We're glad too."
Just then, Mrs. Pepper came into the room.
"Dinner is ready!" she announced.
"Come on, you two." said Steve as he, his brother, and his cousin stood up. "You heard her."
And so, everyone went to the kitchen table to enjoy a nice hot dinner, and later that night, as Blue and Sprinkles fell asleep, the two pups were silently buzzing with excitement about their second day at Trey Whitney K-12 School.
