Ominous Flame
Chapter 2
Author Notes: Wow i'm actually surprised with the people reading this story...I had felt like a lot of people didn't like frontier when compared to the other seasons(it was my personal favorite) since no one talked about it when it was on tv.
Oh well I'm happy, glad the whole lot of you who have been reading like this story so far. Now let's get the show on the road with a little time skip. I do not at all own Digimon.
3rd P.O.V
"INFERNO DARKNESS!"
A loud piercing shout echoed from his mouth as he summoned his flames. "Ahhhh! Run away!" Casting a wicked blaze, he watches with a neutral expression as countless digimon turn into fractal code. A line of blue and reds encircling into his hand. There was no sadness or joy to be found within him.
He simply stands there in the midst of ash and rubble. Numb to the world as once more, another piece of territory is gone, with whatever pathetic digimon lucky enough to survive flee further away. Instinctually he wanted to follow, to finish off any remaining survivors.
But there was no point in the end. Those that left could do no harm to him, and besides he already had what he came for. The fractal code. So his feet carried him back to his master. "Well done Shagumon." There was no emotion within his gaze as he kneels before his master.
The same way he has done so many times before. Not bothering to reply, there was nothing to say. "I am quite pleased with the progress you've made." There was an undertone of pride in the villain's words. He was enjoying watching so much destruction unfold.
Knowing his newest toy could be so powerful. "Continue gathering Fractal Code for me my warrior." Time had passed, though it mattered very little to him how long he had been in service to Cherubimon.
Not that he could know truly know how long he's been here. He doesn't age, he doesn't change. All he knew was that he followed and fought for this digimon. The legendary being wasn't considered a true digimon, at least when compared to his four allies Renamon, Grumblemon, Arbormon and Mercurimon.
No, he was compared to more of an obedient moving puppet. And that was essentially what he was. He would barely speak, didn't eat or drink and only after a long difficult battle against opposing digimon did this warrior of dark flames sleep for a few hours.
For awhile, that was all he did. Nothing else mattered. "As you wish Lord Cherubimon." Essentially he was left alone, as the others were afraid of the powers he possessed. Out of them all he was the most deadly.
All it would take is one command-and without any hesitation Shagumon would utterly destroy them, something Mercurimon took special note of. Because that was how he was created. To obey without a conscious or feelings.
However, despite all those assumptions and fears...there was more to Shagumon than meets the eye. Most of the time it was true that all he did was follow orders. But that was due to the extreme measures Cherubimon placed when creating him.
In order for Shagumon to exist, his human self had to be destroyed. Takuya Kanbara had to be eliminated completely, with his form reshaped from the ground up. Using the essence of the ancient warriors' powers along side the dark magic from the Celestial digimon himself.
That was his first mistake. Despite things seemingly working according to plan, there was a problem that the evil ruler didn't think of. Ancientgreymon, the core essence that was used to make Shagumon was a savior and protector of the digital world.
A being of goodness that fought against the corruption that fell Lucemon back during the days of war. Unknown to all, even his creator-the fog that kept him a mindless slave slowly started fading away. And dreams plagued his mind when he slept.
He would watch with curiosity of a time that he should no longer have any memories of. When he was human and had a family. Like a ghost he was not seen nor spoken to, just a spectator that was only there to observe.
Though those dreams often were short and hard to comprehend, they were mere clips of life if anything. However, there was a figure that was constantly within it. A young boy with short dull brown hair that held a bright, innocent smile.
A boy taller and older grabbed him by the shoulders, pinning him in place. Before giving the younger child a noogie with a grin of his own. 'Come on Takuya stop it! Grr take this!' Desperately the victim pushed and wiggled, struggling to break free. Attacking his captor despite the odds stacked against him.
'Think you can take me buddy? Let's see you try!' The two children would laugh in the memory as they began to rough house. Only to wince and fidget while getting scolded by a woman that had features similar to theirs. Still despite the lecture the two smiled to each other, their gazes filled with mischief.
These were just one of many visions that came to him. And Shagumon couldn't piece together what this was. That this was the life he had before being corrupted into a legendary soldier. It infuriated him how every time he would get close to understanding what he was watching only for these moments to cut off at random.
There were so many questions that came to him as these dreams took form. They ignited a desire for knowledge, eradicating the fog over his mind and the emotions that were quelled. Immediately he wanted to go to his 'master' and get proper answers or even the other legendary warriors that he works with.
It didn't take a genius to know it would've been a foolish decision. Considering the circumstances...he thought it best not to say anything. Less Cherubimon or the others keep a closer eye on him or somehow take these visions away.
Regardless on his confusion, Shagumon knew this child and what he was seeing was important to him. No matter what he could not have it taken away. These small moments brought forth a sense of warmth. One far calmer, more docile than something his flames could ever be.
Often times, when he wasn't out on orders he would walk, going wherever his legs take him. Usually far on the outskirts of Cherubimon's castle to look towards the moons that circulated the sky. At this point due to the evil angel's influence the land he claims is full of decay and ruins.
The star filled sky, and tri color moons were the only beautiful things that remained in Cherubimon's territory. He would simply stare up at them, trying his hardest to visualize his dreams. What was he before? Why was he here?
Time and time again he would let the pale light guide his way as he analyzed his memories from top to bottom in the search of who he is and what it all means. "Takuya." The name that escapes his lips held a familiarity that he couldn't quite grasp.
But it felt right to him. It was said enough to where he could pronounce it properly. And he found it fitting, like he was meant to say and hear it. Could he...possibly- Suddenly he feels a sharp pain in his head. So much so that he falls to one knee.
Rough gloved fingers clutch his hair, feeling his palm press against the pained area. As if hoping to push it away. This was a new sensation to him. As up until now he had never had any sort of injury. Unsure of what to do he stays in place wincing his eyes as he tries to ignore it.
However a voice is heard. One that again is familiar, though not from his dreams. In fact, he couldn't place where he had heard it at all. A woman appeared within his mind, a glow illuminating her radiant frame. "Who are you!?" He snarled, already summoning his element.
"I'm not here to fight you." Only for him to freeze in place as a hand rests upon his head. She shouldn't have been able to touch him, her form though imbued with magic, wasn't corporeal, especially when they were in his mind.
His flames were completely useless. "I'm sorry I could not protect you." Still, he found himself struggling to think deeply on the matter as he takes in her words and gestures. A small sad smile is on her face as she gently pets his head.
A wave of tranquility and safety overwhelmed his being as she spoke. Putting him in a slight daze. "You have questions about who you are. I can help you find answers." Shagumon had no idea who this woman was, but his instincts told him she truly meant her words.
Regret and pity could easily be heard. Still he shook himself, not wanting to let his guard down. "How?" He growled in warning. She had massive power, it was obvious. Whoever she was had to be incredibly strong to able to reach into his mind from wherever she is.
That didn't mean he wouldn't try to obliterate her the moment she decides to try something. He would not fall for any tricks. Still he allowed her to speak, listening as the space around him shifted.
"Due to the state I am in, I cannot physically aid you. However you can find answers in the Forest Kingdom. There, in the Forest of Dreams specifically there is not only trees that show other worlds and show what's found in your dreams, but there is also the Lake of Awakening. Looking into it reveals images or visions that help answer questions."
With her ability, she shows Shagumon exactly what it is she is describing. As clear as if they themselves were there he sees the trees and lake. "Why are you willing to help me? Who are you?" At this point she has moved away from his being.
That sad, remorseful expression still greatly present. For a moment she hesitates, clenching her fist in frustration as she is unsure of what to say. How to properly explain herself and the things that transpired.
Suddenly she found her light fading, her hold on his mind fading. "What's happening!? Answer me!" Taking in his tense stature finally finds her voice. She had to make due with the little time she has left.
"There are some truths that are hard to grasp and cannot be found alone. I wish to make up for a mistake that should not have happened as well as help you find those truths." Once more, he detects no lies found in what he's been told.
But there was also more she wasn't admitting to, what was she hiding he couldn't know. Still, he would let it go for now. "What will happen to me once I find these truths?" Something told him that this would not be the last time they cross paths.
"That I cannot answer as not even I know what will transpire. The journey you walk will lead you to a destiny only you can fulfill...are you prepared for it?"
to be continued
