Ominous Flame

Chapter 43

Author Notes: We're here boys and girls. Last time Koichi and Tommy were chatting, leading to a very important brain storm for our dark elemental hero-wait. This isn't Yugioh gx? Well it still works lol. Let's see what happens now. I don't own Digimon.

3rd P.O.V

The moons were circling around the night sky, bringing some light into the darkened forest. "You ready?" His twin nods his head, and together the both of them digivolve. Fractal code surrounds their beings, armor engulfing their now digified bodies.

"Lobomon!"

"Loweemon!"

The two wasted no time. The moment they finished shifting, they moved. "Hya!" Lobomon was the faster of the two, and he struck first. The symbol on his shoulders glowing as he summoned his magic.

Koichi gritted his teeth as he blocked, doing his utmost to absorb the strike. "Arg!" The light and the roundhouse kick made it a bit difficult to counter, but he was able to stand his ground, and push his sibling off with his shield.

"You'll have to hit harder than that Koji!" They've been doing this for over the last several nights now. Ever since Koichi spoke to Tommy when they went on night watch together, the dark warrior had been theorizing.

A yawn escapes Koji as he tries readjusting his bandana. His brother was looking at him, looking pale as he waits nervously on his log seat. 'What's wrong Koichi.' If he had asked Tommy to get him up for a sudden switch, then it was important.

Not that Koichi wasn't ever serious. Especially with how much shit has hit the fan. 'I've been thinking...yes yes I know, you can stop giving me that look. I'm thinking there's a way we can save Takuya without having to fight him.'

Well he was awake now. 'I'm listening.' His attention one-hundred percent on his brother, though his expression showed some doubt. 'Takuya wanted us to use our elements on him. I either repel or absorb the darkness, and you shower him in light.' Koji's brows furrow in thought.

Not outright dismissing his idea, but not confident either. 'How would we do that? Actually where did that thought process even come from?' Koichi crosses his arms, rubbing his arms while taking a breath.

'Takuya back when we first met had admitted to being afraid of my powers. I don't think I need to explain why.' He really didn't. But it was a surprise to the overly grumpy twin. He remembered seeing the tension between the two of them back in the beginning.

Something that actually triggered Koji and had been one of the reasons why he was constantly getting on the goggle wearing teen's case. But it made sense why that original tension was there. 'Go on...'

He waves his hand, waiting. 'He had also said Ophanimon had set him free. And I started thinking how? He told us that he was at first in this 'fog' only to slowly come to his senses and self. I'm thinking Ophanimon used light magic, much like Seraphimon did.' It made sense.

Ophanimon was a celestial angel that wore green armor-at least that was how Bokomon and Takuya described her. It wouldn't be a surprise if she did have light magic, and though limited, was in Cherubimon's territory, where Takuya was.

There was no way to give an exact amount of time Takuya had been there as a slave, or how long it took for him to break free from the evil digimon's control. But it DID take time. Time that they sadly don't have.

'So what are you planning? Last I recall she hasn't contacted us.' This is where things could get dicey. 'I don't think you could set him free like she did, at least not alone.' There was no way to know for sure if it would work.

But their alternatives were not promising in the slightest. 'But light and darkness aren't good and evil. At the very least i'm not. I'm thinking maybe I could weaken Cherubimon's influence with my own power. And you use your light to bring him back.' Together they would bring him back.

Bring him home. 'There's still the problem of How.' Again, there was some hope to be found in Koichi's potential plan, his brother didn't outright disagree with him. 'I've noticed sometimes in battle, especially with you how your light kanji symbols glow.'

All of them had those symbols glow at some point through their journey. But Koji's was the most often, and the most obvious. 'But why?' His sibling could only shrug. He didn't have an answer to that yet.

'If I had to guess, your emotions are controlling it. When you get really angry or anxious like when we were dealing with those bat digimon, it blinded them.' At least...not a confirmed one. But during that one specific moment, Koji activated his light.

It blinded their enemy which gave them the opportunity to strike. 'Back then I was so frustrated, it felt like something was bubbling inside of me...and it felt like I could release it. Could it really be that simple?' They locked gazes as the same thought came to them.

They wouldn't get anywhere just by standing around. Except for battle...none of them have really tried staying in their digimon forms because of how exhausting it was. But now they have a reason to. They needed to train and better develop their powers. And see what they can do with it.

"Let's take a breather." Both of them were exhausted, panting as they returned to their human forms. "Dammit! We still couldn't do it." And unfortunately, like every other time they've shifted, there's been no results.

The two of them tried taunting each other, purposely working themselves up on top of training for hours. Each and every day they tried new theories and tested them out. Their actual magic attacks granted were stronger, as were their instincts, and overall battle prowess.

But being able to manipulate and summon their elements at will proved to be more difficult then they hoped. "We'll try again tomorrow." This wasn't the time to get hung up. "We've been trying Koichi! It's not going to work-we don't have time." Hostility between the two of them were running high.

"I know..." And immediately Koji felt bad, seeing his brother avoid his gaze. "I'm sorry Koichi. I just-" He didn't want to fight Takuya-he didn't want to possibly fight to the death with him. He had hope with this new plan but it wasn't working, no matter how hard either of them tried.

And his twin understood that. "It's ok. Let's get back to the others. It's almost dawn." That just made him feel worse, this was Koichi's idea after all. There was no doubt that he was feeling far more frustrated with this.

Not that he was showing it. "Sure-wait. How can you tell?" With that question they, in sync turn to the sky. There was still endless shadows covering the sky, only small hints of lights flickering through the leaves.

But there was no way to tell moonlight from sunlight here. "I-I'm not sure. It's just...a feeling." Maybe...there were more results that came out of training than they originally thought? "All the more reason to get back then. Come on." With a small sigh Koichi follows after his light counterpart.

Only for the both of their eyes to widen in shock as the ground suddenly began to shake. "What the!" Random earthquakes were never a good sign. "Ominous blaze!" Without word the two of them rushed towards camp. Knowing exactly who would be waiting for them.

To be continued
