Ominous Flame

Chapter 45

Author Notes: Hey guys! I have returned for a new upload~ But...it is time to shake things up again. So let's not waste any time today. I do not own Digimon.

3rd P.O.V

Time is a strange thing. It goes on endlessly at an agonizingly slow pace yet for some it feels like it can move at the speed of light. Hours feel like seconds, a blur of motion that can leave one breathless. That...was not the case for Ophanimon.

For her especially, it was hard to tell time at Cherubimon's castle. It was constantly surrounded by the three moons, being the only light in the kingdom of darkness. And even then she was locked in a room within a prison.

There was no telling how long she's been in this gilded cage, she's long stopped keeping track. "Please...don't give up my warriors." Making it harder to admit the fact that she was helpless, and has been. Honestly, she has at this point been reduced to something akin to a spaz.

If she wasn't praying, offering what little magic she has to her legendary warriors, she's been pacing around, quite literally walking laps around her barred home. As a celestial digimon, one of the three rulers of peace, she was always someone who was productive.

Doing all she could to help any and all digimon that sought her aid. But she was trapped, her wings stiff from being folded behind her back for who knows how long. Didn't help her feet were aching from what little movement she could do. "Come on focus."

She held her hands to her chest as she prayed. Desperately trying to reach one of her chosen heroes. The humans from another world. "You're wasting your time Ophanimon. As well as what little life you have left." Though most of her face was concealed thanks to her mask, there was no hiding the anger she held.

"What do you want Cherubimon?" Her voice was full of bitterness as she stared her fellow ruler down. To think...all this chaos and destruction, was due to one-ONE disagreement between him, her and Seraphimon.

A disagreement that to this day she still couldn't understand why he took it so personally. They had been having ongoing discussions for the benefit of all digimon kind, were they always in agreement? No.

But up until then things were fine. They were all friends, friends who were working together to make a better world. Why would Cherubimon betray them like this? To this day she still had no clue exactly why(even though she's asked him multiple times.)

"Are you truly so disheartened knowing that you and Seraphimon are no longer in charge? That the heroes that you so desperately summoned aren't as powerful as you desired?" Her friend whom she hatched alongside...was no longer there.

His heart as dark as his form. "I'm disheartened knowing what you've become. At what we've all become." Seraphimon was dead. Killed by Mercurymon. She was a prisoner, and Cherubimon was a monster.

She didn't even flinch as he slammed his hand on the bars keeping her captive. The harsh thud echoing throughout the room. "Don't sound so Innocent! It's because of you and that fool Seraphimon that i've turned to this!"

This wasn't her friend. At least not anymore. "Believe what you will Cherubimon. However, my chosen warriors will restore balance. Your throne will fall, as will this war." He sneers at Ophanimon as she turns away.

No longer wishing to look at him. "You are correct that this war will end, though I wouldn't hold so much faith in those pathetic humans. After all, your favorite warrior of them all belongs to me and obeys my every command." Her fingers clench into a fist.

Takuya...that poor boy. Forced to suffer a fate he didn't deserve. With currently no hopes of being saved. She's been trying to reach him with her telepathy, hoping to help him break free from those mental chains. But alas...she was too weak, her light dimming along with her life.

It wouldn't be long before she fades away, reverting to a digi-egg. Which is why she had to find a way to help those children. Before her end, there had to be something she could do. A sigh escapes her as her tormenter leaves.

Satisfied that he got the last word in. Though, despite his taunts and confidence, she wasn't beaten yet. She hasn't yet subjected to his rule, far from it. She was determined to stop him, she just had to think and find a solution.

That thought made her pause in her movements. An ache from within her heart throbbing as she could with clarity recall the last time she had such unwavering strength fill her being. Her thoughts drift back to her conversation she had with Seraphimon before her capture. Back when things didn't seem so bleak.

'We can't let this happen!' This shouldn't be happening to begin with. A war between humanoid and beast digimon. Chaos and bloodshed that happened in time's past. They were supposed to prevent another war.

Not be the reason for it. 'What do we do?' Still, there was no denying that their army and Cherubimon's army was growing as they spoke. Alongside casualties. How many exactly neither could say. 'Cherubimon must be stopped.'

However they knew numbers meant nothing in the long run. What they needed was the chosen heroes. The warriors of legend to combat against the evil that is decimating this land. There was this...aura surrounding the land, especially Cherubimon's territory.

Wicked and hostile, like a poisonous gas, it was toxic to breathe in. Despite being two of the three celestial keepers of order and balance, their light magic would do nothing to it. "But the cost-" However summoning the heroes had its consequences.

Ophanimon, the sole summoner, never mind that she would be horribly drained bringing them here, but she also knew for a fact the chosen weren't digimon, but human. They weren't from their world. To break time and space to drag them to a war they should not be involved in would be cruel.

Bad enough so many innocent digimon were forced to endure due to their mistakes. These humans were only children...their hands free from blood and fractal code. 'We can't afford this to keep going.' Still Seraphimon wasn't listening to her.

He was too high strung, frustrated and hurt from the damage done by their fellow celestial. 'Summon the warriors Ophanimon!' Any compassion and patience he had flew south the moment Cherubimon declared war. She understood his feelings. She was well aware as to why he was like this.

That didn't mean she agreed with him. 'It's not so simple Seraphimon! They are all human. All of them children!' Hands may be stained, but it should only be theirs. Not strangers that other than being compatible partners for the elements deities, have no connection to this world.

But like with everything else, they had opposing opinions, with little time to argue. 'Please my friend...Look beneath my crystal ball of sight. You expect me to bring them into this war torn land!? Those boys are innocent. That girl is innocent! I refuse to agree with your decision.'

Even though his mask was covering his face, hiding away his expression, she could tell he was furious with her. 'Seraphimon have you truly grown so heartless? Don't let malice consume you otherwise you will be no better than Cherubimon!' If he had the ability he would've already sent for them.

Not bothering to think of the potential repercussions. 'Think what you will...but I will not stand down on this.' She grits her teeth as she glares at him through her armor. She didn't want to do this.

'This is for the sake of the Digital World!' However the decision to summon help from another world was never hers to begin with.

As the earth begins the quake, the castle trembling, cruel laughter echoes all around them. 'What the-?' The two stood together as Cherubimon smashes his way in, his own chosen elemental soldiers leading the charge against them.

It was then Ophanimon prayed. As much as she didn't want to, she crumbled beneath the pressure. Using her magic she contacted the humans prophesized to save her home as Seraphimon leaped ahead to protect her.

All but one answered her call, and were automatically blessed by her and Seraphimon's magic. They were protected. 'No Seraphimon!' That decision, as assumed had its consequences. Seraphimon was defeated, nearly killed, and she was kidnapped, unable to do a thing about either scenario.

She was a mere shadow, a small percentage of her true self. However, that was not the end. Even when her fellow angel in blue was put into a comatose like sleep, she did not give up. Even when thrown into a cage, held hostage as the world around her died little by little, she still stood tall and proud.

But when the boy chosen by the flames of courage was forced under Cherubimon's control, she found herself faltering. Knowing she failed, her mistakes and shortcomings throwing her into an endless cycle of guilt and regret.

It was then she made a vow. To both herself and the land she's protected all this time. Whatever she would have to do, she would save the human slave, and the human slave in turn would restore balance to this world.

Whether she and her fellow celestial rulers perish, it mattered not. She would enhance his flames, strengthen his will so he could break free and find his destiny-wherever it may lead. If she should die giving him her blessings so be it.

'If that is the price then I will give him my power. It is the least I can do.'

She would do so again. Cherubimon may think he was well aware of the situation. That he has things all under control and that his precious puppet was no longer able to break free. But he was wrong.

Though it may be true that currently there was no reaching Takuya, and she no longer had the power to save him. There was another way. One that admittedly was not her own idea. "Please...please reach him." But an idea that would tip the scales once and for all. She just had to keep trying.

Author Notes: I'm happy I got to give this celestial digimon more screen time. I really like gatomon's evolution line and really wanted to know who the digimon behind the voice when I first started watching the show as a kid.

Really glad her design lived up to the mystery. But uh, that is it for now everyone. As per usual thank you for reading my story. If you like what you see so far and want to show your support feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean a crap ton to me. Tchao for now.
