Chapter 13
I am Remington Diesel Plum-Manoso. I am Border Collie Pup Extraordinaire at Rangeman, LLC. My human mom is Stephanie Plum-Manoso and my mostly human dad is Diesel. The three of us have special abilities - we can all understand what others are thinking and we can ESP them, too. Way cool.
I was in the breakroom during the overnight shift when Hal and Binkie were talking. They both have married brothers and sisters, who have families of their own. I guess it's popular now that, if you have a pet in your family, you get them a pet of their own. How cool is that? So, I've been thinking about this. I mean, Rex is okay, but he belongs to Mom. I need a pet of my own.
Luckily, animals love my mom. She takes me for a walk at a park that has a pond in the middle. Every time we go there, the same little turtle comes and follows us around. I hang out with Lester and Ram a lot - I'm sure I know how to do Ops Planning by now. Mom was sitting on the park bench with her messenger bag on the ground. I, oh, so casually, tipped it over onto its side and ESP'd the turtle to crawl into the bag. Nailed it! He's just a little guy and Mom's messenger bag is big!
Mom didn't notice, so all three of us went back to Rangeman. When Mom got into her messenger bag - surprise! Good thing he's not a snapping turtle. Did I mention that Mom is pretty unflappable? She very calmly ran some water in the breakroom kitchen sink and put him in. Next, she opened the refrigerator and started cutting fruit and veggies into tiny pieces. Mom's Man came in and commented that he knew that Mom didn't care for fruits and vegetables, but those were the smallest portions he'd ever seen. Mom told him to look in the sink. I couldn't see Mom's Man's face but I heard a sigh - he knows he won't win this skirmish. Yay, us!
I now have a pet turtle of my own. I think I'll call him Freddy.
A/N I began posting this story in July 2022 on the Janet Evanovich Fan Fiction page on Facebook and wrote 13 chapters. I am going to mark it as complete for now, as I know some readers don't want to read unfinished stories. I will come back to it when other ideas occur to me. It's not a traditional story with a beginning, middle, and end. Each chapter can stand alone without being a cliffie.
