Ominous Flame
Chapter 54
Author Notes: Ignore the date. It's not important-I most certaintly haven't forgotten to update despite working my butt off on getting chapters done! In any case I'm ready to get things going. I do not own Digimon.

"Ominous blaze!" Despite his talk, Saldomon had to admit to himself that Ranamon had every right to be worried. Cherubimon was faring to be a tougher opponent than he originally believed. The moment Saldomon charged at him, his creator grew larger.
Practically the size of his castle as the two clashed. Taking advantage of his hybrid body, Saldomon slashed at him with his claws, blasted him with a wicked fire that consumed the palace into a dark inferno.
Yet, despite the obvious damage to Cherubimon's fortress there was nothing of the sort of him himself. No marks whatsoever to be found. It just fazed right through him. Only to strike back while grinning. With each sweep of his hands, harsh hurricanes formed, sending Saldomon away.
The warrior of fire was panting, absolutely exhausted as he gained control of his wings to return him to his original position. His focus taking a moment to scan his surroundings. "Come on Ranamon..." He was banking on her to pull through.
Even though she was loyal to Cherubimon before, and hadn't showed up yet he wanted to believe she didn't betray him. That the fear in her expression and the sincerity that poured from her mouth was real.
Otherwise...this truly was going to be a suicide plan. "Burning oblivion!" Still even with the low chances of him winning, he would keep at it. Should he fall, than he's going to fall fighting. And his friends regardless of Ranamon's involvement would be able to escape in the chaos.
"What's the matter Saldomon? You seem worried about something? I didn't create you to have feelings!" With a growl, flames spewed from his mouth, but like every other time, there was no signs of damage to be found on his creator.
Though he noticed those yellow eyes glare down at him as a winged claw tried to grab for him. "Time and time again I made you to do my bidding..." Saldomon flew sharply to the left, grunting as the wind took away his control.
His wings began to ache. "Yet that wretched Ophanimon meddled and now I once more have to fix you!" He had recovered just in time to swerve again. Just barely managing to get out of the way.
"It seems the third time will have to be the charm, once I form my new world." No matter what...Saldomon couldn't let that happen. "Ominous blaze!" As the black and purple flames sprayed forward, Cherubimon grinned.
Holding up one of his arms out in front of him. "Dark reflection..." Fear froze his movements as his attack was swallowed within a black mirror. "What?!" Before he could do anything he was hit with his own fire, now stronger yet colder as it engulfed his form. "RAAAAAA!"
His shouts shook his surroundings as fractal code surrounded his being. He reverted back into Shagumon, falling into a stretched out hand that gripped tightly around his body. "Ahh!" Despite the pain that wracked his already beaten body, he squirmed.
Doing what he could to break free. "Draining rain." Those red eyes turned blue for a moment when he looked up. Dark clouds swirled all around him, pouring toxic drops onto his body. "Graaaaa!" Hope died within him as he grew weak.
His upper body folded atop of the arm holding him captive. He trembled, feeling a shivering chill overcome his senses. He'd been the victim of Ranamon's ability many times before...but never did it hurt him like it did now. Wait...before?
"Your plan was bold Shagumon, but a futile one as Ranamon fell easily." Those thoughts were forgotten as malicious laughter hit his ears. "You-" The implications behind his words and the ability to use that attack spelled bad news.
He clenched his gloved hands, rage boiling over. "Bastard-YOU BASTARD!" He may've not really liked the water nymph but he understood her reasonings for her actions. And at the very least...up until her demise, she was his ally.
She didn't deserve death. But despite summoning all the power he had within him, his flames though now strangely stayed upon Cherubimon's skin, burning him, it didn't seem to do anything to him. He was unaffected by his embers. "Now...there's just one traitor left to take care of." At that Cherubimon squeezed.
Shagumon screamed again, his vision began to blacken. He could feel his bones quake as the strain increased. "Let him go! Lupin laser!" A beam of light struck the dark entity. "AAHHHHHHHHHRAAAAAA!" For the first time since the fight began Cherubimon screeched out in pain.
His massive form shook as he unwillingly released his victim. "Takuya!" Though he couldn't really see, Shagumon could feel small cold hands grab onto his back, and the sensation of flying of the wind flowing through his armor...
Something deep within him...though he wasn't entirely sure what it was...broke.

"How is he?" Koichi met his light counterpart and Tommy as they laid Takuya on the ground. "Could be worse..." All of them with the exception of Tommy and Koichi were already in their beast forms, ready to fight. "Hurricane gale!" Zoe and JP took it upon themselves to lead the charge.
Combining their powers to buy the others time. "Ultimate thunder!" They would do whatever they could to hold Cherubimon back. Something they wouldn't be able to do for long however. "You fools think you can stop me?!"
Their enemy roared as fractal code soared into his hands from the palace. "The time has come for me to recreate the world!" He grew even bigger than before, a black aura surrounding his frame. Throwing the surrounding area into an overly dull gray tint.
"I'll go help them, it looks like my attacks actually do damage." Loweemon watched as his brother rushed back into the fray. Leaving the two of them to tend to their wounded friend. "Takuya?" The fire elemental jerked at Kumamon's touch but remained unconscious.
Dark wispy embers fluttered out of his hands but they vanished not even a moment into the air. Barely warm as Koichi examined him. He wasn't sure how, but he felt aches fill his already abused heart seeing the bruises and cuts that overlapped all over.
And that was with the armor on. But he found himself stunned, pausing mid thought of his frantic worrying as something caught his eye. "I don't believe it..." He focused on the unconscious warrior's chest.
The chains that slithered along his body had been reduced to one. "What's wrong?" And even then it looked fragile, like a single touch would cause it to shatter into pieces. Immediately he bent over, his own armored hand stretched towards the last chain.
"The chains are almost gone." If he breaks it right here and now, they would get Takuya back. He would be free completely from Cherubimon's control. But before he could grab it he was stopped. Both he and Tommy found their jaws drop as they stared into pained but clear blue orbs.
Not angry red, not the eyes of Shagumon. "Don't Koichi...not...yet." But Agunimons. "Takuya...you-?" Koichi choked as he found his companion offer him a toothy grin, one he knew so well. "Sorry to have taken so long...but I'm back."
Both boys wanted to jump for joy, to smile with relief and let their emotions flow. However it wasn't the time for that as danger filled the air. "Don't break that chain Koichi...not yet." Especially when they saw Shagumon sat up.
Holding his stomach with one arm. A wince formed on his features. But he wasn't sure if it was from the pain he felt all over or from Tommy's outburst to his left. "But you're still Shagumon! If Koichi breaks that last chain you'll be free from Cherubimon. You'll be able to turn into Agunimon again!"
Takuya took two deep breaths as he slowly made his way to his feet. "Takuya stop!" Loweemon immediately grabbed onto his friend's arm as he stumbled, but instead of collapsing back onto the ground, the warrior of flame stood up.
"I need Shagumon's powers, right now that's the only thing keeping me from reverting back into my human form." He leaned against his dark elemental ally. Gritting his teeth, he took note of the battle going on in the sky.
Steams of bright light swirled around the evil digimon ruler while trying to swat Zoe away. They needed to hurry. "No matter what we need to break his hold of the fractal code." Koichi's hold on him tightened, already able to read his thoughts. "You're not fighting Takuya-you can barely stand!"
There was no time for this. "All of us need to fight. Because if we don't win-that's it for the digital world." So many questions filled the younger twin's mind as narrowed his gaze. His thoughts drifting back to when Ranamon busted them out of their cages.
"Tommy, go on ahead and back them up." For a moment the warrior of ice hesitated, unsure if he should listen to Koichi. But then they saw Koji get smacked into a tree. "Oh no!" Immediately he wasted no further time.
He leaped towards the rest of his friends way to give aid, digivolving mid hop. "Slide evolution-Kurikakumon!" With a battle cry he took out his axes. Leaving Loweemon and Shagumon there.
They peered into each other as a slight tension folded over them. A silent battle taking place as several emotions shifted through their gazes. The corrupted warrior was breathing heavily, barely mobile, yet in the end, he found victory as his friend turned away.
"We're going to talk about what Ranamon told us about you supposedly meeting up with us later." His response came with a tired smile. "No more secrets. I promise." An unfortunate acceptance was made as they spun around to the mayhem taking place above them.
If they won they would have plenty of time to talk it over. For now though...they had to fight.
to be continued
