A/N Hey everybody. Hope you're all doing well, and I really hope you're all ready for this next chapter. If it seems like I've been hyping this one up quite a bit, well, there is a reason. You see, the basic idea for this chapter, along with the next one, is what lead to the idea for this whole story. My thought processes just went from one place to another, and here we are, so many months later. I'm very proud of what I've done so far, but I have been absolutely dying to get this chapter out here since I started writing this thing, so I hope you all enjoy it. Alright, enough from me. Here we go!
Gregory was absolutely in trouble now. On his own once again, being hunted down by someone he had wanted to save. He couldn't even fathom how he kept getting into these situations since the Pizzaplex. He was used to being on the run, but he never thought he would have to deal with ghosts, big business, and killer animatronics on top of everything else that he had to face on the streets.
But here he was, in an abandoned diner being chased by a ticked-off robotic wolf because he picked up the interest of a dead, child-murdering CEO. He wondered what exactly he had done for his life to get to this point.
It was just like anything else he had come across, though. He had to deal with it, and the only way he knew how, now that the flash drive with the antivirus was destroyed, was just to keep running. And run he did. He had lost track of time of just how long Roxy had been chasing him, and he was still not making any difference in how close she was to getting him. On the bright side, he had been able to knock down some of the barricades on this side of the diner, but that was mainly because he was using his pursuer as a battering ram. As he came to another barricade, he readied himself to do the same thing, by standing directly in front of it.
"You are NOTHING!" Roxy yelled as she launched herself at him for at least the fifteenth time.
Gregory stepped out of the way just as she did, however, and the barricade came tumbling down upon her impact with them. Just like he had every other time he did this, he quickly ran past her again. This time in particular, however, he felt an immense burst of speed as he went forward. He didn't know why, but he seemed to gain more distance between the two of them as he ran this time compared to the others. "Lucky break, I guess," he thought.
He wasn't exactly looking at the map that much, so he knew he was lost, but he didn't have time to figure out where he was going. He just had to get away now. He turned a corner and found himself in front of a door with a push handle. At first, he was hesitant about going in there, but when he heard the blind wolf yelling "I'LL GET YOU," he couldn't be cautious anymore.
He threw the door open and ran in, immediately descending down a flight of metal stairs. Once he reached the bottom, he pulled out his flashlight to survey the area, and that's when things became confusing. He found himself in a hallway with maroon painted walls, photos hanging on them. He passed by a grandfather clock as he went, and when he looked at the end of the hall, there was a lamp set up near a door. This almost looked like somebody's house, had it not been for the bricked-up windows and abrupt end to the hallway. He wondered if this place could get any crazier.
That's when he entered the door near the lamp and walked into what appeared to be a bedroom. On one end of the room, there was a queen-size bed that had a stitchwork blanket with a blue and grey pattern. On the other end, there was a closet with white louvered doors. There was also a blue drawer chest to the left of the closet and a matching dresser with a lamp on top in front of the right wall. The walls also matched the blue color scheme and there were pictures in here as well, but the thing that struck Gregory the most was the fact that there were toys scattered about the room, a Freddy plush featured prominently on the bed.
The boy wondered as he looked what he had just walked into. This placed looked like a kid's bedroom, but why? Could this be where William conducted those experiments on kids with Remnant? Was he now standing where Evan Afton faced unimaginable horrors at such a young age? What is the deal with this company?
"YOU CAN'T HIDE FOREVER!"
Roxy's yelling brought Gregory out of his thoughts, and he went into survival mode once again. Not knowing where else to turn, he hid in the closet. As he shut himself in, he noticed the gaps in the louvered doors were just enough for him to see through, so he peered through to look for the best moment to leave.
He listened as Roxy's footsteps made their way through the hall and watched as she frenziedly entered the same way he did. Then, she stopped for a moment, but breathing heavily she turned her head in every direction, seemingly listening for any movement.
"I know…you're in here," she croaked out in a strained voice.
The blind wolf then went quickly around the room, feeling around for any good hiding spot Gregory could be in. She really looked like an animal now, carelessly knocking toys out of her way as she went and sniffing the air for any sign of her prey. Somehow, she completely missed the closet, but seemed to focus more when she found the bed. She felt around on top of it, but stopped when she felt the plush on top. She took in all of its features with her hand, and suddenly, it seemed she felt a little emotional. It looked like she was about to cry for a few seconds, but then she growled and threw it across the room. Looking more agitated then ever, she exited through the door on the opposite side.
Gregory was feeling awful as he watched this unfold. He let her come to this point, and now he couldn't do anything to stop it. Afton probably had her in the palm of his hand. If only he'd tried to help her rather than hit her with that stupid go cart, maybe things would have worked out differently. Now he had the chance to fix things between them, and he blew it when he let the flash drive get destroyed. If he tried to do anything now, he'd get killed.
He knew the only thing he could do now was try to get out of this unscathed. Immediately after Roxy left, he tried to plan out his path on the map. He was getting tired from all the running though, so he stepped back to lean against the wall so he could catch his breath.
SQUEEEAAAK
He jumped at the sound and looked down quickly to notice he stepped on another plush toy. But he had no time to react as two metallic hands immediately crashed through the door and grabbed him by the shirt, pulling him forcefully out of the closet. Roxy had him now! She slowly lifted him up to the level of her face, cackling like a madwoman.
"I caught you!" she growled gleefully. "I finally caught you…And now you're gonna PAY!"
And she slammed Gregory into the dresser, hard. It hurt, but he wasn't injured, so he tried to struggle free. But he could barely move under the eyeless wolf's grip. She leaned close to him, still laughing at his expense.
"Afton said I have to keep you alive," she taunted, "but that doesn't mean I can't CRUSH EVERY BONE IN YOUR BODY!"
Then she lifted him up again and turned a full ninety degrees. She held him up with one hand and quickly threw him to the ground. The boy tried to turn midair to lessen the impact, but he wound up landing awkwardly on his right shoulder. He called out in pain as he felt the impact. Something had to be broken now. He knew this wasn't going to end well. As he lay there writhing in agony, she grabbed him again and swiped her claw at him. He called out again as claw marks were imbedded into his face. He could feel blood trickling down as the shattered wolf taunted him again.
"Don't let that all out at once," she laughed. "I'm just getting started."
Gregory didn't know why he felt the need to talk, but he tried anyway. "Roxy, please listen to me—"
"I don't want you to talk!" she retorted, more vicious than ever.
She lifted him again and slammed him into the wall opposite the dresser, the photos above falling off their hooks from the impact. Gregory gritted his teeth through the pain he was still experiencing.
"LOOK WHAT YOU DID TO ME!" she screamed in fury. "You took away everything I ever had! My home! My racetrack! My beauty! My eyes! It's all gone! And I've been down here for who knows how long waiting for someone to help, but I know it's not coming! Nobody cares about me anymore! No one loves me anymore! AND IT'S ALL. YOUR. FAULT!"
She slammed him into the wall on each word of her last sentence. It was a wonder they hadn't crashed through it.
"So don't you try to beg for mercy," she continued. "Tonight, you're getting what you deserve."
Still holding him to the wall, Roxy growled as she lifted her right arm in preparation to deliver a devastating blow…
"YOU'RE RIGHT!" Gregory suddenly yelled.
The wolf froze when she heard this. If either of their expressions could have been seen, it would have been clear neither of them expected that to come out of his mouth.
Roxy was the first to speak a few seconds after this. "Wha…What did you say?"
"I said you're right!" the boy responded. "It's my fault you wound up like this…It's my fault you and the others are even here! When I did what I did, I thought I had to do it. I thought you all were just a bunch of monsters ready to tear me apart. I didn't think about anything being wrong with you, or anyone controlling you…I should have, though. I should have realized that when I saw you crying in your green room."
The wolf gasped. She was sure she was alone in there that night.
"Y-You s-saw me?!"
He nodded. "Yeah…I should have realized something was wrong with you all right there. Freddy even said something was wrong with you right before then. I should have tried to figure out a way to help you…but instead I ran you over with a go-cart, and did a lot worse to Chica and Monty. I wondered what I could have done differently for a whole month…but I guess it's too late for that now…
"You have every right to beat me to a pulp or…rip my arms off or…do whatever horrible thing you want to me. I just thought, when I realized you were here…I might be able to give you another chance."
Roxy couldn't believe what she was hearing. This kid destroys her the first time they meet, but now he's talking about making nice with her? She wasn't buying it.
"Y-Y-You're trying to trick me!" she yelled tensing up again.
"No-really-I mean it!" he stuttered. "I've been living with Vanessa for the past month, and she's been taking care of me and Freddy. There's someone over there now who could fix you…That's actually why I came tonight, to get you out of here."
The wolf was even more frozen than before. "W-What? But…But why?"
"Like I said, I wanted to give you another chance. We started coming here so we could make things right with this company, and with each other. I'd have really liked if you could have been a part of that. I feel like we could have even become friends…"
The boy sighed. He realized that it was probably a lost cause to try and convince her now.
"But it doesn't even matter now. I know that's probably not what you want. Just go ahead and do whatever you want to me. Like you said, I deserve it. I just wanted to say…I'm sorry."
In that moment, a flood of thoughts suddenly filled Roxy's head. Was this the same ungrateful brat that took her eyes. Why was he giving himself up to her now? Could he really have felt that bad about what he did? Why exactly was she chasing him at the Pizzaplex? She was programmed to entertain kids, so why was she hunting this one down? Did he just do the things he did because he was scared of her? Did she actually want to harm him…DID SHE ACTUALLY JUST HURT A KID!?
Though she remained frozen, she began visibly shaking at these thoughts. She could feel Gregory bracing himself for her onslaught. He was afraid, but he was going to let her do it. She made a few vocalizations in an attempt to speak, but then…
"How touching," came Baby's venomous voice.
Roxy's expression became fearful as she heard that voice. The clown in question stepped through the door on the opposite wall and sauntered her way over to where Gregory was pinned.
"If only a simple apology were enough to erase everything you did," she mocked.
"Like I was even expecting it to!" the boy bit back. "I just wanted to say my peace, here."
"Is that so?" She caressed his face. "My dear Gregory, you're getting more and more perfect for us by the day. How fitting it will be for Roxanne to break you tonight. I understand now why Daddy wanted her to bring you to us."
"I can deal with you and your crazy dad…but like I said, Roxy can do whatever she wants. I'm the one that did this to her, so I deserve it."
Baby then turned her attention to the blind wolf, who was still frozen. The clown stepped behind her.
"Well, you heard him, didn't you?" she asked. "Even he feels the need to face retribution for his actions. This is what you have been waiting for this whole month. I'll bet you haven't realized it's been that long, have you? Go ahead…Give your tormentor what's coming."
A whole month? So that's how long it's been. Roxy knew Baby was right. She'd been waiting for this the whole time she was there, but now that she had the tiny terror she was seeking in her hands, he began to just look like a scared little kid. Seeing this now, she began to wonder…Who in this room has really wronged her?
She remained frozen just a few more seconds, but then tensed as if she was going to strike again. Gregory braced himself for the worst when in one swift motion…Roxy dropped him to the floor, spun around, and decked Baby right in the face, sending her flying into the dresser. Roxy then slowly walked over to the clown, as Gregory, now seated on the floor, looked on in bewilderment.
"What the heck?" he thought.
Baby struggled to her knees in the remains of the now shattered dresser.
"You fool!" she barked. "What do you think you're doing?"
Roxy aggressively grabbed her by the collar and lifted her up to her face.
"I'm giving my tormenter what's coming."
Then she swiftly kneed Baby in the stomach. Too stunned from this to move, the clown didn't fight back as Roxy put her in a headlock and punched her face three more times. With absolutely no time to react, her arm was braced against Roxy's knee and ripped off from the elbow. As baby screamed in pain from this, she was kicked to the ground. Then Roxy finally lifted her over her head and furiously launched her into the bed, destroying the bedframe. Baby's system had taken too much from this, and she shut down.
Roxy stood over the scene, breathing heavily. It almost seemed as if she hadn't fully caught up with what she had just done yet. Gregory looked on as well, in complete disbelief. The wolf had every reason to ignore what he said and do the unthinkable right there, from Afton's virus to everything else. But she saved him. Maybe he did have a chance.
The boy looked at his watch quickly. Time to go. If he had another chance now, he was going to take it. Ignoring the pain in his shoulder, he ran up to Roxy and started tugging on her arm.
"Come on!" he pleaded. "Let's get outta here! There's not much time!"
She remained in her spot, but was clearly surprised by his actions.
"Y-You still want me to come with you?" she asked in shock.
"Yes, but we gotta hurry!" he exclaimed. "The doors are going to lock at 6 A.M. It's 5:45 now! We gotta go before anything else happens!"
The wolf was confused. He still wants to help her after what she just did to him? Why?!
She couldn't form a complete sentence. "But…But I—"
BOOM
The sound of the bed frame being crushed alerted them that Baby was moving again. She slowly stood up, her eyes glowing that familiar shade of purple.
"After everything I did for you…you're just going to leave?" she asked, her voice dripping with contempt. "I don't think so, you blind bat!"
The crazed clown rushed both of them. Instinctively, Roxy stepped in front of Gregory to protect him, she wasn't about to let anyone do worse than she just did…But that's when a black shadow jumped down onto Baby and wrapped its arms around her neck. Gregory could clearly see that it was Charlie again! She grunted as she wrestled Baby to the ground.
"Hey, what's going on?" Roxy asked franticly. "Who's there?"
"Charlie!" Gregory called. "What are you doing here?!"
The puppet finally got the psychotic clown pinned down. "No time for questions, just GO!"
The boy then remembered the situation and knew she was right. He found Roxy and was able to get her to join them, now he just had to get her out of here.
"COME ON!" he yelled tugging the wolf's arm again, but this time she relented and stumbled behind him as he quickly guided their way.
Roxy was still so unsure of why this boy had decided to help her, especially after everything she'd done to him. She took note of how he was leading her as well. Though there was an urgency in his movements, there was also a gentle touch that she hadn't really felt from anyone before. It brought on a sense of safety for some reason. Did she really deserve this after the way she treated him?
Still running after a few more moments, Gregory tried to contact the others on his watch, but to no avail.
"Crap!" he hissed. "Coms are still down. Well, I hope I keep having as much luck as I've been having."
"You call this luck?!" Roxy called back incredulously.
"I'm still breathing, aren't I?" he responded as they rounded a corner. "…Man, I hope Vanessa's okay, at least."
Just as he said that a door flew open on the left, and they stopped. Then various parts were thrown out that Gregory recognized as being part of 'Nightmare' Foxy. First, its right arm. Next, its left leg. And finally, the rest of the body, minus the head. Out of the door stepped a very disheveled looking Vanessa, panting heavily. The former guard observed the dismantled animatronic for a moment before holding up the missing head, looking at it with contempt.
"You could have at least asked me to dinner first!" she yelled sarcastically before chucking the head down the hall.
She turned back around to face Gregory but yelped when she saw Roxy behind him. Out of habit she pulled out her taser, and the wolf once again cowered at the noise.
"Vanessa, wait!" Gregory shouted as he stepped in-between them. "It's okay! She's with us now."
The blond released the trigger. "Wait—What? How?"
"…Long story…What happened to him?" He indicated the disassembled parts, and she acknowledged them.
"…Long story."
The sound of crates being knocked over behind them interrupted.
"Let's tell it later, then," said Gregory. "We gotta go. Come on, Roxy!"
He took the wolf by the hand again and they followed Vanessa's lead. After a moment, they were almost back at the main hallway.
"Have you heard from Freddy and Fifi?" asked Gregory as they ran.
"No!" Vanessa called back as if it were obvious. "Coms have been down since two o'clock. I thought you might have seen them."
"WHY WON'T THIS STUPID THING CHARGE?!"
They felt instant relief at the sound of Fifi's voice.
"Well that answers that," said Gregory.
As they approached the main hallway, the two animatronics in question ran past without paying any mind to their approaching friends. Vanessa stopped to watch them go by, then looked back the other direction to see what they were running from. However, she instantly regretted that when she saw the tentacled animatronics coming down the hall.
"Oh, I'm gonna throw up!" she yelled disgustedly as she ran the other direction.
Gregory was close behind, still leading Roxy on, when he looked to see the same thing.
"This way!" he yelled, yanking the blind wolf behind the others.
"We're almost out of time!" Freddy called to Fifi. "This cannot end well!"
Vanessa finally caught up to him. "Hey, you're supposed to be the positive thinker!"
"Vanessa!" Fifi yelled in awe. "You're okay!"
"Where's Gregory?!" Freddy asked, more concerned than ever.
"Right behind ya!" the boy responded, still behind from leading Roxy.
And at that, everyone bolted for the door. Vanessa checked her watch again when they were a few hundred feet away, and finally, she could reach Foxy.
"Open up!" she yelled. "We're coming in!"
The door opened immediately and the five of them ran to the other side, each of them stopping at different points. Roxy, still disoriented from the whole ordeal let go of Gregory and kept running until she tripped on her own feet and fell to the floor. She didn't get up or say anything. She just laid there for a while, taking everything in. The only ones who acknowledged her presence at this point were the rabbit and chicken that were making their way down the stairwell, who looked on in shock.
Foxy panicked for a moment when he saw the group's pursuers, and quickly shut the door. He stood there for a moment, stunned at what he saw, and he turned his attention to Freddy.
"What in Davy Jones's Locker was that?!" the piratical fox demanded. "Did we add the kraken to our character list or somethin'?"
"Let's just say," said Freddy, still catching his breath, "that things did not…go over well with Cassidy."
"That's a big understatement," Fifi added, also out of breath.
As the adrenaline died down, the pain in Gregory's shoulder came back, full force.
"Owwww," he moaned as he went down to his knees, clutching his arm. Freddy heard this and quickly came up to him and gasped when he saw the state of the boy's shoulder and the blood on his face. Vanessa came up to him from behind to assess the damage as well.
"Gregory!" the bear cried out, pain in his voice. "You're injured! Oh, no…I am so sorry. I let this happen—"
"Freddy, it's okay," the orphan said confidently, despite the pain. "It could have been a lot worse. I'm just glad you're okay."
Freddy still cast his eyes down as Fifi walked up behind him. "Thank you, but…I still wish I could have protected you. It…It had been a hard night already, and to see this…"
"Relax," said Vanessa, feeling around Gregory's shoulder. "He's going to be fine; I can tell. But see, this is why I said we need to stick together. I hope you've learned from this."
Fifi gave Freddy a knowing look, which he reciprocated. "Don't worry," he continued, "I have. I'll be there for you from now on, Gregory. I promise."
The boy smiled and embraced him with his good arm when he heard this.
"Don't worry about me," he said. "I'll be fine."
And that's when Roxy finally decided to speak. "F-F-Freddy? I-Is that you?"
All eyes instantly turned to the heap on the floor, and Freddy's jaw dropped the second time that night when he realized who it was.
"Roxy!" he called out. "Y-You're here! But how did…"
He trailed off as he saw the grin plastered on Gregory's face.
"Gregory!" he breathed. "You found her…You brought her back…YOU DID IT! GREAT WORK, SUPERSTAR!"
He scooped up the boy in a caring embrace, and both of them were happier than they'd been all night. The excitement seemed to be infectious as well, as Vanessa and Fifi wore smiles on their face when they saw this.
"Ha, ha! What'd I tell ya!" Foxy hooted, joining the revelry. "I knew you could do it, lad."
Then Sun appeared out of the blue. "Roxy?" he screeched. "Oh my gosh! You look terrible! What happened to you?! Oh, this won't do, this won't do. If only we had working techs in th—"
"Shut up, bilge rat!" Foxy interrupted knocking him upside the head. "Can't you read the room?"
Then the map bot showed up. "Warning! Tampering with Fazbear Animatronics will resu—"
"You too! Shut up!" Foxy interrupted again, smacking the bot into the wall. Then he called out to Rockstar Bonnie and Funtime Chica. "Help her up, there. Both of yas."
At his command they quickly rushed to the wolf's side and slowly helped her to her feet. She stumbled at one point, but Bonnie was quick to catch her.
"Take it easy, kid," he comforted. "One step at a time."
"Almost back on your feet, don't worry," FT Chica added.
When Roxy finally got to her feet, they backed away. Still on edge, she turned around to face Gregory and the others, the full extent of her damage now visible. When Fifi saw this, her eyes widened and she brought her hands to her mouth. She thought the damage to Monty was bad, but this…this was another level. Acting off of this, Vanessa rushed over and put a hand on the mouse's shoulder.
"It's okay. I think she's gonna be fine," the blond said. Then she turned to Gregory. "Seriously, though, I thought the flash drive got destroyed. How'd you get her to come with you?"
"I-I don't know," the orphan stammered. "She was going to beat me up, but…then we started talking and…Baby came and…she saved me. I don't know why, but…Roxy saved me."
The group was more confused than ever hearing this. Regardless, Freddy cautiously approached his old friend.
"Are you okay, Roxy?" he asked.
She turned her head toward Freddy's voice and paused for a moment.
"Am I okay?" she breathed in a strained voice. "…Am I okay? How could I possibly be okay, Freddy? I've been caged up for a month with a bunch of lunatics! Do you have any idea what that feels like? You have no idea what they made me do! What they made me think…and I just let it happen."
The bear stepped forward slightly. "Roxy, you know that isn't your fault. They—"
"Yes, it is!" she yelled. "I'm supposed to be the strong-willed one, here. I'm supposed to be the best! But I let my guard down because of one bad night, and I got myself tortured because of it! I stopped thinking and let them tell me what to do, because I thought I'd get back everything I lost! But now…look what I've done. I just hurt a kid, Freddy! A KID! THE THING I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING! HOW IS THERE SOMETHING NOT WRONG WITH ME!?
"R-Roxy I—"
She angrily turned away and walked toward the wall. "Just forget it! There's nothing left for me anymore. Not after this. Just put me back in there and go. It's what I deserve…Just leave me here to rot…"
She curled up against the wall and began to cry profusely. Everyone looked on empathetically, but after that performance, no one knew what to say…except for Gregory. He rushed over next to her, Freddy's attempt to grab him stopped by Vanessa. The boy knelt down next to the blind wolf and touched his hand to her shoulder. She jumped at this and turned around slightly.
"Roxy," he breathed. "I said I wanted to give you another chance. How can I do that if you're stuck down there?"
She didn't say anything.
"Please," he continued. "Let us help."
Still saying nothing, she sniffled slightly as she placed her hand on top of his. Though he knew she couldn't see it, he gave her a smile when she did this.
"Come on," he said. "Let's go home."
A/N I've seen a lot of fanfics here that have Roxy and Gregory connecting if events at the Pizzaplex had gone differently. They're all great, but it's not what I wanted to do. I wanted to think about what would happen if they met again after that night, and how things could go for them. That was the basic idea behind this chapter, and it led to the story you see now. This chapter may have been a bit long, but I still can't express my gratitude enough to everyone reading. I'm so glad that at least some people have liked this crazy idea, and I hope I can keep up the momentum. But that's enough for now. Just make sure to leave a review if you can and keep on reading. Thanks again, and I'll see you soon.
