A/N Hello! Another day, another chapter. Hope you're looking forward to it, and thanks again to everyone who's been reading. This will be the last chapter for Night 4, not counting the aftermath, and I'll do my best to make it go out with a bang. I've got a lot to cover here, so I'm not wasting anymore time. Here it goes!
The next thing Fifi knew, she was flat on her back again, staring at her reflection in the metal lining the vent. At least she could tell that she was still in one piece, but what else happened? She couldn't really remember after Monty's tirade.
Speaking of which…where was he?
She lifted her head cautiously and looked around…only to notice he was lying just five feet in front of her. Instinctively, she jumped into a sitting position, but as she looked at him, she realized that aside from the occasional twitch, he wasn't moving. She leaned in for a closer look and saw that along with the damage he already sustained, there were a few new dents, along with big gashes in his casing that almost looked like claw marks.
This was probably the most disconcerting thing the mouse had seen so far. What could've done this? Was it one of the things she'd already seen in the past few nights, or was it some monster that stayed hidden from them all this time? And why did she black out while this happened? She quickly decided she didn't want to stick around to find out, especially if, by some miracle, Monty was still functional.
She crawled through the vents a couple hundred more feet until finally reaching an opening on the side. She peeked through the grate and looked down at the ground. She gasped in delight as finally, she saw her target. The strange lawnmower-laundry basket hybrid she and Vanessa hid in on Tuesday.
"Time to make Gregory proud," she thought, eyeing the vehicle anxiously.
Back in the security office, Gregory and Roxy were having a bit harder of a time clearing out the door than they did previously. The main reason being that not only were the animatronics and bots going after them, but they were also fighting each other. There must have been quite a bit of bad blood between Cassidy and William, and it was showing in how their forces were going after one another now. This was making all of them less hesitant to move as they got in their conflicts while trying to crawl in.
They had only managed to remove about half of them from when Fifi ran off until now, and Roxy was beginning to get impatient. She stepped in closer to the mound of machines.
"Get! Out! Of! Here! You! Dark! Ride! REJECTS!" she growled, stepping closer and shoving her pipe in on each word.
Gregory noticed her position relative to the door. "Roxy! Back up a bit! You're getting too—"
That's when she received a blow to the side from 'Nightmare' Freddy, sending her flying into the plexiglass face first. She stayed there a moment then stumbled back to get her footing.
"…close," Gregory finished. "Are you okay?!"
Once she was stable, Roxy looked back over her shoulder. "Yeah, I'm fine…My hair still looks okay, ri—AAAHHH!"
She fell over backward when she heard a loud 'thump' on the glass, and when she saw what caused it, she gasped. Right in the spot she was standing on the other side of the window was Glamrock Chia, her beakless maw in full view. Her bulged-out eyes looked directly at Roxy as she banged franticly on the glass. The wolf froze in disbelief. More attackers piled behind the shattered chicken until Freddy rushed over and finally shocked them. Roxy tensed at the sound of the electricity, but recovered enough to speak just a few seconds afterwards.
"Th-th-that wasn't Ch-Chica, was it? Our Chica?" she stuttered.
Freddy did not want to respond. "I'm afraid so," he forced out.
"Wh-What happened to her?"
Gregory bonked a S.T.A.F.F. bot out from under the door before turning with a guilty look.
"Let's just say…be glad you never fell into the trash compactor at the Pizzaplex," he breathed.
Roxy put a hand to her forehead. Yet another of her friends she could have helped if she would've kept her head out of the clouds. She couldn't take it…No. This was not the time to dwell on it. She had more friends that she could help, now. She picked herself up, taking her pipe with her.
"You know what?" she said. "It doesn't matter how it happened. It's like you said, Greg, we've all done things we're not proud of. But you're helping me now, and I'm going to do the same for you."
The boy gave a small smile at that. "Thanks, Roxy."
"So now you're loyal, are you?" Baby hissed from the center console screens. "Where was that last night, Roxanne? A whole month working with our cause thrown down the toilet because of what this boy said to save his own skin!"
Roxy growled at the sadistic clown. "At least he's actually making good on his promise…and he's not blowing up at me over a stupid question!" She turned to help Gregory clear out the door.
"You don't know what we could've done for you!" Baby continued. "All you had to do was follow every command, everything I told you to do…but no. You just had to ruin everything for me! You humiliated me in front of Daddy! I will not let you get away with that."
The wolf barely paused at this verbal assault. She was doing the best she could to ignore it.
"Ugh, you just always have to be 'daddy's little girl,' don't you Elizabeth?" Vanessa groaned, still typing furiously. "Have you ever stopped to consider that it's his fault you died?"
"DON'T PIN MY FOOLISHNESS ON HIM! He told me not to get close, but I didn't listen! It was the one time I didn't listen!" she took a rattling breath. "But the same can't be said for you, can it Vanessa? You were yet another problem child, probably because you weren't really his."
"Oh, I wouldn't want to be his after the way he treated me. And don't you act like he wouldn't have done the same to you."
"I'll do ten times worse if you don't SHUT UP!" the clown barked back.
At this point, the other door began to lift up on its own, making a loud creaking noise on its way. When he heard it, Gregory spun around to see 'Nightmare' Chica's hand under the door.
"AGAAAAAIIIIIN?!" he yelled. Then he quickly rushed over and pushed that monster's hand down, trapping more bots and animatronics under the door.
"Sorry, Roxy!" he called back.
"It's okay, kid! Just take care of that side!" she replied. "I can handle myself here!"
The boy nodded and did as he was told.
Meanwhile Baby's stare tore right through the monitor. "He's such a strong young man, isn't he Mike? He almost reminds me of someone."
Freddy gasped. He expected William to taunt him about Evan's death, but his little sister? He aggressively hit the shocking button again, not taking his hand off.
"I can't take this anymore!" he yelled. "Why, Elizabeth? Why do you keep siding with him after every despicable thing he does?!"
Electricity then coursed through the button, shocking Freddy enough to knock him to the ground.
"Call me that one more time, and the night I scooped out your insides will feel like child's play compared to what I'll do to you!" Baby barked.
The bear picked himself up. "I cannot help it! Once I register a name, it is how I remember them. It is in Freddy's programming. Besides…you are still my sister; I cannot just throw that connection away, even in our current forms!"
"Don't you act as if you actually care about this family! All you've ever done is try to tear us apart! Need I remind you that you killed Evan after bullying him for months, and you ruined the plans Daddy had for him! And then you tried to turn me against Daddy, not just before I died but after…You're trying to destroy our family, brother. Don't deny it."
"But I'm not!" he fought back. "Our family's already been destroyed. Ever since 1983, it has been destroyed. I was trying to rebuild it this whole time. I know it's my fault you and Evan died, and when I found out what Dad did to you both, I tried to stop the madness. I lost everything trying to stop it. My home. My life. My body. All because I didn't want what happened to us happening to anyone else. And also…I wanted to get the family I lost back. Given our situation, it's a lofty wish, I know…but is it so bad to want that?"
Baby leaned in closer on the screens. "You think I don't want that? There hasn't been a day that has gone by since that cursed year that I haven't had visions of a picturesque family like we used to have. Living in the moment each day with only each other to rely on. But the difference between you and me is…you don't want Daddy in that picture. Even now, you're trying to run from the man who gave you life more than once. From the man who sacrificed what he had to for this company and this family. From the man who tried to make us all stronger!
"But your weakness blinds you to what he has in store for us. Your moral obligations turn you away from the limits he is constantly breaking. I am not so blind, Mike. I see what he can do, and if it means he can go back to the father I always knew, I will do whatever it takes. I don't care how long I have to be stuck in this shell. I don't care how much suffering I put people through. I don't care how many people have to die. I just…WANT MY DADDY BACK!"
Every S.T.A.F.F. bot in the vicinity pressed themselves against both windows.
"And I'll kill you fifty times before I let you take him away from me!" Baby finished.
The walls were beginning to bulge slightly with the weight pressing against them. Freddy had to press one button and quickly cross to the other side to shock them all away, and even then, it did not make much of a difference. They all kept piling back up, faster than ever, and he was beginning to lose hope. He sincerely wished he wouldn't have to add his own sister to the list of people he lost, but it was clear now that it was exactly what had happened here. He was devastated.
"You know, you've got a really screwed up view of what makes a family!" Gregory's voice called out suddenly.
The bear turned around to see his friend marching boldly to a screen, leaving the trapped machines under the door.
"I may not have known my parents long," the orphan continued. "But I knew them long enough to find out they wanted me to accept them for who they were, not make me worship the ground they walked on. And unlike you and your psycho father, I'm going to do that for Freddy. I'll be his family now, and you're not going to take me away from him!"
Freddy put a hand to his chest. Somehow, even with Michael's memories back, he found himself loving this child more and more.
The clown laughed again. "Bold words once again, child. It will be exiting to hear them ripped from your ignorant mouth."
"Oh yeah," he challenged. "Just try it!"
"With pleasure!"
Meanwhile, back in the vents, Fifi pushed the metal grate away from the opening. As it fell on to the floor, she took a quick peak to see that the coast was clear. Standing up on her feet, she braced herself and swiftly jumped into the laundry basket. The fall was broken by the fabric inside the basket and she quickly recovered. It was then she remembered the basket was completely made of steel. Would've been bad for her if it wasn't filled, but maybe it will be just as bad for the hostile robots.
After situating herself, she crawled over the lawnmower portion's engine housing and twisted around so she would be sitting in the seat. She observed the throttle under her right foot and the gear shift by her hand, then drew her attention to the dashboard. There were only two gauges on it for power and speed, which were straight lines above the steering wheel, and to the left of the steering wheel was her target, the key fob. Gregory had told her that, especially in small vehicles like this, there was always some easy access to the ignition around this area.
The mouse felt around quickly and with some luck, she found a panel near the key fob, and when she opened it, she was met with a very similar sight to the diagram Vanessa had printed for Gregory to teach her off of. Of course, the both had said this was never going to be the same for every vehicle, but once the basic principle is down, any vehicle could be hotwired. Fifi sure hoped they were right. After a moment of preparation and observation, she grabbed what appeared to be the correct wires. She held her breath.
"Please work!" she thought.
She touched the wires together, and instantly sparks flew. To her shock the engine fired, and just as quickly the dashboard lit up. The motor kept running and she could feel the vehicle shake beneath her. Her eyes both figuratively and literally lit up. She did it! She actually did it!
"YEEESSS! HAHAHAAAAAA!" she shrieked out.
The mouse was proud of herself, but the sound of the S.T.A.F.F. bots' sirens in the distance reminded her this was only half the battle. Now she had to drive this thing back to the security office. She put the wires back under the panel and closed it up. She barely got settled back into the seat however, when three bots spotted her and raced her way. "Talk about a trial by fire," she thought.
She shifted the vehicle into forward and stepped on the gas pedal—a bit too eagerly perhaps, because she was taking off at high speed before she was ready. She took her foot off quickly, but before she could stop, she rammed into the bots. As a result, one of them was tossed across the hallway and the other two were caught under the laundry basket, no longer functioning.
Fifi took a brief look at what she did and she realized something had changed in her. Everything that had happened ever since she escaped Afton until now had gone by so fast. Her chest was feeling tight, but not in a bad way. Why would she, an animatronic made for children's entertainment feel not just a sense of panic but also…excitement at these things? Is this what humans would call an 'adrenaline rush?' She wasn't certain at all, but…she was starting to like it. Now saving her friends posed another challenge for her tonight, and for the first time since she met them, she was actually ready to face it. She smiled a determined smile.
"Let's do this," she breathed.
Not even bothering to deal with the bots under the vehicle, she stomped on the gas again.
In the security office, Gregory and Roxy finally managed to clear out the intruders from under their respective doors.
"How's power over there?" the boy called out.
"Not good," Roxy replied. A display above the door showed a low battery signal, confirming her statement. She turned to Vanessa, who was still at the computer. "Are you getting anywhere with that?!"
"It's eighty percent downloaded, but Baby's blocking any more progress," the blonde replied. "She keeps downloading new malware every time I make progress. I don't know how much longer this is going to take!"
"You might as well face facts, Vanessa," Baby growled. "It's over. You can't win, and you've been led to your own death by your self-righteous delusions that you can improve things. All of you are fools, and ridding the world of you will be an honor."
On the screen they could see her raising her hand. They had no idea what she was about to do, but they all braced themselves, Gregory and Freddy in particular running to each other's arms…but before Baby could do anything a huge mass of green suddenly fell right on top of her. Everyone who saw this stood in stunned silence for a few moments wondering what just happened. Soon, though, they saw Baby staggering to her feet along with a more severely beaten Monty. As he stood, the gator seemed a bit more frantic.
"B…Baby," he stuttered breathlessly. "We need reinforcements here. They—"
"Idiot!" the clown screamed, grabbing him by the neck. "Can't you see I'm in the middle of something?!"
"Wait! You don't know what happened! That frilly little ro—"
"I don't care! Just because you're a hick doesn't mean you can barge in like one!"
"A HICK?! YOU STUCK-UP, PRECIOUS—"
Vanessa stopped paying attention to the verbal spat between the villains when she realized no more malware was being downloaded. She deleted what was there and the files were downloaded onto the Fazwatches in seconds. She gave a triumphant chuckle as she picked up the watches.
"Never thought I'd say this, but thank you Monty!" she said handing Gregory's watch back. "Who knew his hotheadedness would actually help?"
Gregory had to chuckle a bit at this too.
"Okay, well that's done," Roxy observed, "but how are we going to deal with them?"
The wolf pointed toward the window where more bots and animatronics were piling up outside. The group looked on in dread.
"Don't worry!" Fifi's voice came from Gregory's watch. "I got it covered!"
Gregory quickly put the watch back on. "Fifi! Where'd you go?!"
"Doesn't matter!" she replied. "I'm coming back now, but I need you to open the door we came in from."
"What! We're surrounded here! They'll all swamp us!"
"JUST DO IT, QUICK!"
The boy grunted in frustration and ran to the door without thinking. The others tried to stop him but he was too quick, when he pushed the button, the door opened and their adversaries immediately started piling in…only to be immediately crushed when the strange laundry basket vehicle drove over top of them.
"WHAT THE?!" yelled Roxy and Gregory in unison.
It continued into the room crushing all the machines caught under it. When the back end finally cleared the door, Gregory closed it again, just so nothing else would come in. The group stared at the weird vehicle in bewilderment and finally noticed Fifi sitting in the seat, a hand on her hip and a smile on her face.
"Taxi anyone?" she greeted cheekily.
Gregory was stunned. "Woah!" he exclaimed. "I didn't think I taught you that well, Fifi."
"You can thank me later," she replied. "Now get in! It's ten minutes 'til six, we gotta hustle."
Not knowing what else to do, the others quickly piled into the basket, but Vanessa stopped to look at the mouse for a moment, clearly upset.
"Fifi," she said. "When I was telling Roxy earlier not to throw caution to the wind, I meant that for everyone!"
"What choice did I have?!" Fifi replied. "If I didn't do something we were all going to die, so don't get upset until we get out of here."
"GET OUT OF MY WAY!"
On the screens, Monty shoved Baby out of the why while screaming this at her, and he whirled around to face the front.
"I ain't done with you yet, reject!" he threatened. "I'll rip them arms off your body 'fore you get out of here!"
"Oh, yeah?" Fifi challenged, standing up in her seat. "WATCH THIS!"
She leaned against the steering wheel and kicked the button for the door with her foot, then she plopped back in the seat, threw it in reverse and hit the gas. This jolted the baskets occupants forward and they rattled around as Fifi ran over more bots. When she was a short distance back in the hallway she came from, she stopped and shifted back to forward, bots and tentacled animatronics rushing them.
"Everybody, hang on!" the mouse yelled in both warning and excitement, and she stepped on the gas again.
"FIFIIIIIII!" screamed Vanessa as they sped forward.
They all held on for dear life as the vehicle sped around the corner away from the room, running over every machine in its path. This continued as they went down the straight hallway in front of them, at one point causing a S.T.A.F.F. bot head to hit Gregory in the face. He was caught by Freddy as he fell backward, now holding the head in his hands.
"I hope this does not bring back bad memories of Roxy Raceway!" Freddy called out over the sound of bots being crushed.
"Well, it could be worse!" Gregory called back.
Soon after this, Fifi rounded another corner, throwing everyone in the basked to one side. Vanessa also lost her grip as they turned and instinctually grabbed the first thing she could get hold of, which happened to be Roxy's hair.
"Ow! OW! Let go! Watch the hair!" the wolf cried out.
"Oh, you and your hair!" Vanessa annoyedly responded and she propped herself back up with her hands.
The chase continued for about a minute more, chaos continuing for the ones in the basket with each turn while Fifi wore a crazed grin on her face. Though she'd have to deal with everyone later, when they were safe, right now she was having the time of her life, and it showed. With one more sharp turn, they were back in the main hallway.
"Almost there!" the mouse yelled triumphantly. Then she used her coms. "We're coming out, Foxy, open up!"
Foxy was diligently waiting with the other animatronics when he got the call.
"Aye aye!" he responded. "Got her covered, lass!"
"Oh! I hope they're alright!" Sun mused as he walked to the door. "It sounds like chaos in there!"
"Would it kill ye to have some confidence, bilge rat?" Foxy mused following him. "They've done good the past few nights, haven't they?"
"Well, I mean, sure, but…doesn't this whole situation scare you? Even a bit?"
The fox gave a hearty laugh. "I've been through the full forty years of this 'situation,' bub. I ain't scared o' nothin' anymore."
Then he opened the door and instantly rescinded his statement when he saw the laundry basket full of screaming passengers making its way right for him.
"SHIVER ME TIMBERS!" he shrieked.
Sun screamed as well as they both dove out of the way. Rockstar Bonnie and Funtime Chica did the same when they saw it. The map bot, however, in its complete lack of self-preservation, stood directly in front of the oncoming vehicle, still trying to hand out a map.
Not slowing down slightly, the vehicle ran over map bot and pinned it against the wall, where it finally crashed. The momentum was enough to throw Fifi out of her seat and flip her into the basket on her back. Foxy quickly closed the door when this happened. Thankfully, it seemed no one was hurt, but they all sat there in stunned silence for a few seconds…until Fifi broke it with an eruption of giggles.
"That was the most fun I've ever had!" she shouted with glee.
Gregory, who was lying down in the basket, side-eyed her. "And suddenly, I regret teaching you how to hotwire a car," he said plainly.
Roxy sat up, shaking her head. "I bet…and the techs said I drove like a bat out of—"
"Roxy!" Freddy warned.
"Sorry!" she responded. "It's been a long night."
Vanessa sighed as she turned to Fifi. "You know, you could have at least told us what you were doing. We could have helped."
"I know," the mouse replied. "I just wanted to see if I could do something by myself for once…though I guess I could have let you tell me how to slow this thing down."
Vanessa suddenly began laughing at that. "Yeah, definitely."
Fifi laughed too when she heard this. Then Gregory started, then Roxy, until the whole room was filled with laughter. And it wasn't an awkward kind of laughter. It was more like a release, since they jumped over their biggest hurdle. They got all the information they were looking for tonight, and they were one step closer to ending this madness. Moreover, it was like they were getting closer to each other as well, and despite the burdens they knew they would face from that, they were accepting it.
When the laughing finally died down, Freddy took a breath.
"Well, we made it out in one piece, that's the important thing," he said.
"Yeah," said Roxy. "We did good tonight."
"Hey, all we can do now is keep it up," Gregory concurred.
FT Chica suddenly approached the group. "You guys make a good team, you know that?" she commented. "With how close you all are, so soon…it's almost like you're family."
Vanessa took a moment to look at her watch, and at Gregory's. After looking at the information on these small devices, she could be able, not only to change her life, but his as well. She wondered how she could do that, and what the future could hold. The blonde looked up with a smile.
"You never know," she said.
A/N And there goes Night 4, hope you enjoyed it. I'll be honest, this night was probably the only thing in this whole story that I didn't have exactly planned out until I started writing it. I knew what I wanted to happen, but I didn't know exactly how it could happen. But just like anything, you work through it and a solution can come to you. Maybe there is a bit of a rough tonal shift for this chapter, but I did want to at least end it on a good note. Anyway, as always, I hope you all enjoyed it and make sure to leave a review if you can. See you next time!
