A/N Hello again everyone. I know I said I was going to get back on track with this next chapter, but there's been a bit going on in the past few weeks. Sorry again, but I'm going to do my best to keep things consistent from now on. I'm especially excited for the second half of this night, because we're going to see some fun stuff and a few triumphs for once. I really hope you enjoy it. Here we go.
Standing shakily on the rubble under her feet, Roxy looked around with tired eyes, having just finished her story to Cassidy. She clearly wasn't 'all-there' anymore. That was partially because she was still reflecting on the details of her story. The torture. The empty promises. The toll on her mind. These were things she had almost forgotten about in the past two days, but they entered her mind again as much as she just tried to talk about her experience. Further, she didn't understand why she told that story to begin with. She was never one to pour her heart out like this, sure, but why did she feel the need to tell it to a stranger? Especially one that still had a friend held captive.
The friend in question, Vanessa, was still watching both intently, though. She had to admit, hearing Roxy's full story for once was…well, quite emotional. She knew her adoptive family had some cruel individuals, especially now, but she never understood how far they would go. Child abuse was one thing, but this…it was like an initiation into a cult. She never empathized with Roxy as much as she did now…she had to remember, though, that Cassidy was a threat too. The blonde was already thinking of Gregory as a son, and she almost lost him to this monstrosity. She knew she had to get out of here, for him…but how? And could Roxy find the strength to get out of this too?
The Golden Freddy suit slithered around Roxy on multiple sets of tentacles.
"I see," Cassidy mused. "So, he amplified your feelings of self-doubt and tried to appeal to that façade of confidence you have. Is that the gist of things?"
The wolf case her eyes down. "Well…yes," she breathed. "I mean…I used to be confident. I really did, but…things happen, and…maybe I did think he could give that back to me."
The Blob shifted again. "What a shame. He promises to stoke up a fire, but immediately snuffs out the spark that starts it. We've all gone through this, but it was quite shocking to me when I heard about you. We didn't think it would be possible. An animatronic that never had a soul attached to her feeling the same agony that has been forced upon us. You shouldn't even feel anything, Roxy, but after hearing this, it's clear to me that you do. Technology is certainly a marvel…in all the wrong ways."
Again, Roxy was about to cry. She also knew she shouldn't be feeling like this…but she did. And she hated it. Why couldn't she just shake this problem off like she always could before? It was the worst feeling she could imagine.
"…Yeah," she finally whimpered out.
"But maybe it doesn't have to be such a bad thing that you feel this," Cassidy suddenly purred.
Roxy lifted her head and looked at the suit confusedly when she heard this. "Huh?"
"I've felt the same way that you do for a long time, and to endure this is the most trying thing I've done. However…there's a certain strength to agony. A hidden power that, when harnessed, can bring about unthinkable things. For example…"
The Freddy suit slithered back around to the front of the Blob, framing itself in all of the components that made up its grotesque form.
"What you see before you is not just some mishap from a trash compactor," Cassidy continued. "This is an amalgamation of the lingering agony we have felt at the hands of our tormentor: William Afton. It is all that is binding us together, and what drives us to move as one. Ha! That demon thinks he can get all the power he needs from Remnant, but he's just trying to compensate for how far behind he is compared to us. And the ironic thing is, he gave us power trying to obtain the power he so desperately craved. Arrogant fool."
Now Roxy was starting to freak out again. "Th-That doesn't even make sense! You're just a pile of bits and pieces! How could agony even play a part in what you are?"
"Did I not just say the same thing about you earlier? I'm in the same ballpark as you, Roxy. I don't know how it works, but it does. And just for a little heads up, you'll find that in this world, there are too many things that don't make sense. People want to find out why they happen, but they can never find out. They even know they can't, but still they persist. And when they do…they turn into him."
The wolf just stood there, struggling to come up with an argument. She couldn't come up with anything, though and tried to figure out why. Maybe she had a processor fried. Maybe she was just recovering from everything she experienced in the past month. Or maybe…this kid had a point. How unfair the world was. She was noticing that more and more, even before that night at the Pizzaplex. She wasn't really sure, but…she wanted to listen on.
"Okay, so you use whatever power you've got to get a handle on Afton. What are you planning on doing to him?"
"Simple. We want him to feel what we feel. If we have to suffer, he has to suffer with us."
A black tentacle dragged the still-bound Vanessa to Roxy's side.
"This one may have told you we let him go once, but that is a mistake I will not make again. Especially, if you're willing to help."
Roxy's face was neutral as she stared at the blond. She kept her eyes focused for a good fifteen seconds before finally turning back to the Blob.
"Why should I help you?" she asked with no emotion.
"…I can tell you want vengeance, too, Roxy," Cassidy softly spoke. "It's what we all want. We're just like you, really. And you in particular faced suffering at the hands of his family too. Elizabeth was always a bully, so I think it fitting her latest victim should be the one to finally take her down a peg. But for now, why don't we start with the one who brought him back in the first place?"
The wolf turned back to Vanessa, who already knew she was doomed. Fear in her eyes, the blonde looked at the animatronic she thought she finally buried the hatchet with. Against the tentacle's grip, she could only shake her head, each time growing more and more frantic. She tried to call out to stop this madness, but everything came out muffled due to her mouth being covered.
Roxy flatly watched her struggle. "You're right," she droned. "There has to be consequences for things like this."
Emotionlessly, she began walking towards Vanessa slowly and grabbed her neck with one hand as the captive continued to struggle.
"There we go," Cassidy softly praised. "We cannot leave anything behind that he can use to his advantage. Especially his relations, blood or otherwise. And once we severe those connections, he will be ours. We will ensure he regrets everything he has ever done."
Roxy's eyes seemed to be glossed over as she began to tighten her grip on Vanessa's neck.
"He's a monster," she droned again. "He has to pay."
"I knew you would understand, Roxy. You and Gregory will be our final components, and then we can claim what we have craved for so long. Finally, we will have it all."
Then Roxy stopped. We will have it all? Wait a minute…where had she heard that before? Where had she been when going through all that torture, forced into doing someone else's bidding, belittled at every turn? And what was always said to her when she tried to get away from it like she should have? Finally, it clicked.
A look of realization finally appeared on the wolf's face, and she loosened her grip on Vanessa.
"Y-You'll what?" she stammered.
"What are you doing?" Cassidy quickly asked. "Why did you stop?"
"Hang on…you said I'll be a final component for you. What does that mean?"
The Blob seemed taken aback. "Wha…D-Don't worry about that now. Just kill her already!"
"I want an answer! Why are you so interested in the agony I've gone through, huh?"
"I'll explain the details later; just do it!" Cassidy was becoming more agitated.
But Roxy quickly figured out the answer. She was basically told earlier that the blob was made up of pieces that held the agony of Afton's victims.
"You're trying to get me to join you so you could add more power to your whole amalgamation thing!" she shouted. "What's even going to happen to me if I do that? You all talk in unison! Am I going to be able to think if I'm a part of that?"
"Don't you get it, Roxy? We're all thinking of the same thing. Vengeance! You just said you wanted that two minutes ago! Are going to back out on that now?"
"Don't act like you know what I'm thinking! I thought about revenge on Greg for a whole month, and look what good it did me! How can you say that's the only thing I…wait. Greg! You said he was a final component, too. How?!"
Cassidy didn't speak for a beat. "As I said, Roxy, we have to sever any connection to our tormentor from this world."
Roxy stepped back at the realization of what this girl was planning.
"…You want to kill Greg," she breathed.
"Afton wants him so badly?" Cassidy snarked. "I'll just have to take his prize myself. Once the boy's gone, the demon will be putty in my hands. I'll make sure of it."
Vanessa, still restrained, scanned the scene in front of her in shock. Until that point, she only thought Cassidy was trying to get information on William's whereabouts from Gregory. He never mentioned that Cassidy actively wanted to kill him, but thinking back, that made sense. He probably still didn't trust Vanessa at that time, and he still wanted to come here even though he knew it was dangerous. Nonetheless, he was going to be in trouble if they both made it out of here alive.
For a moment, Roxy seemed distressed by this fact as well, as she lowered her head again. A whimper could almost be heard as she looked at her hands, but then…it turned into laughter. And the longer she held the position the more intense it grew, until she lifted her head up, seemingly in a state of mirth.
The Blob backed away defensively. "What's so funny?!" Cassidy demanded.
The wolf kept laughing. "Oh, I've been so stupid, haven't I?" she wheezed. "I almost fell for it again! The same stupid trick! But I actually stopped myself this time. For once, I'm actually learning, here!"
"What are you on about?!" Cassidy roared.
"Don't act like you don't know. You acted like you were promising me the word when you were just about to use me as a pawn in your little scheme. We will have it all?! Elizabeth's been driving that into my head all month! Like Afton and his cohorts actually valued me and what I can do! But it was just so he could get one step closer to his screwed-up fantasy! And I almost fell for it again! You were just trying to do the same thing to me! You're exactly the same as him!"
"WHAT DID YOU SAY!?"
A tentacle then quickly came crashing down on Roxy, but she dove out of the way just in time. She laughed again as she pushed herself back up.
"And you don't want to admit it!" she yelled triumphantly. "Oh, it's all so clear! Two times now, I almost let a bunch of losers dictate my life! Ha, ha, ha, ha…Not anymore! I'll take care of Afton alright, but I'm not doing it your way!"
"There is no other way! Don't you get it?!" Cassidy called. "I've tried everything!"
"Have you really? Or did you just give up for the more sadistic route and decide you want to kill my friends? Ha! Like I said: LOOOOSEEEERRRR!"
The Golden suit got into Roxy's face. "You conceited little…Who do you think you are?!"
The wolf stood her ground and gave a content smirk. "Me? Ha, ha, ha…I'm the best! And you want to take away the first person that actually made me feel that way? I don't think so."
The suit retracted, and the Blob took form once again.
"YOU WRETCH! I'LL TEAR YOU, LIMB FROM LIMB!" The chorus of voices called out.
Tentacles reached out for Roxy as she raced toward Vanessa. Using her immense strength to her advantage, she pried the blonde free from her prison, then quickly threw her over her shoulder.
"Hold on tight!" the wolf warned, and she took off flying. Draped over Roxy's back, Vanessa screamed as she was carried in the opposite direction of where she was facing. The Blob roared as it began its pursuit, but Roxy being faster than the other animatronics, she had already gained good ground. She covered hundreds of feet in a matter of seconds, and before she knew it, she was already at the stairwell. She made it to the top just as quickly and burst through the door as she reached the top, snapping the two-by-four holding it closed in half.
Then she dropped Vanessa on the floor feet first and motioned for her to hold the door shut. Though moving shakily at first the blonde complied, and they both shut the doors as soon as a tentacle was reaching the top of the stairwell. They both stood there for a moment, each bracing one door, until Roxy broke the silence.
"YEAH, BABYYYYYY!" she yelled. "ROXANNE WOLF IS BACK!"
Still bracing the door, she suddenly let out a realistic wolf howl. The look on her face as she did this showed she was absolutely living for this moment…but that was interrupted when Vanessa sharply slapped her arm. Roxy yelped in pain in response and turned to face her friend, who did not look amused.
"NEVER SCARE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN!" the blonde scolded. "I'm too young to have a heart attack, Roxy. Don't give me one."
The wolf sighed. "I know, Vanessa. I'm sorry…but I finally get what you said before. I know what to look for so I don't get manipulated again. From the minute Gregory found me I knew. I just didn't allow myself the confidence to see it until now. I still almost killed you, so I guess I still have a lot to learn. But no one's perfect; I finally get that now. Still, I'm going to keep learning so this doesn't happen again."
Vanessa's scowl softened before she finally smiled. "I knew you could. I'm just glad you did realize before you did something you'd regret. I'm proud of you."
Roxy returned the smile. "Thanks."
Suddenly there was loud banging on the door and the sound of movement surrounded the two of them.
"We better get going now," Roxy breathed. "Everything in this place is after Greg now, I'm sure, so we gotta find him before we do anything else."
Vanessa took a brief look around. "Right. Well, I don't think we can barricade the door here, so I guess we'll just have to let go and gun it. Can you handle that?"
The wolf nodded confidently. "Of course I can."
"Okay, then. On three…One…Two…THREE!"
Back with Freddy, the scene was looking grim as he stared at the ceiling in complete agony. He was already in a worse shape than he was Tuesday. Parts of the casing on one arm and one leg were gone. There were multiple large dents on his chest, and the side of his face was so bashed in it was a wonder his eye remained in place. The smell of plastic from the wires burning was strong. And of course, Monty had ripped each of the claws on Freddy's fingers off one by one. Since he was an animatronic, Freddy didn't need to breathe, but he did, shakily. Mainly as a means of taking his mind off the pain.
This was more than just physical pain, too. All the mental anguish. All the painful memories. All the suffering that Michael faced at the hands of his father were clear in Freddy's mind. He wished desperately to have been ignorant to the spirit residing in him once again. To forget all of the heinous things that were done not only to him, but to so many others as well. His friends, his sister…his brother. That was the worst thing. The thought that history was about to repeat itself. That he could right the wrongs he had done against Evan through Gregory. But once again, he was about to fail.
The bear stayed completely still aside from his breathing. Even though he was restrained, it was strange for him to be that still. Meanwhile in front of him, Monty looked to the palm of his hand at his prize—the claws that were once his—and gave a satisfied smirk.
"Shoulda known you couldn't handle the upkeep with these things, bear," he mocked. "Heh, heh. That don't matter, though. There's bound to be some cleanup when Vanny welds 'em back on me."
He nonchalantly tossed the claws in a drawer, slamming it shut. Baby, who was leaning against the desk next to him watched intently.
"Yes, but there will be more to the upkeep than there was before once that happens," she breathed. "Remember…you'll be using them for more than playing the bass, now."
The gator chortled at this. "Oh…I'm countin' on it, girly."
His remark was met with a pat on the back by William, who was laughing as well.
"I must say, you've been a lovely addition for us, Montgomery," the murderer croaked. "You're so ruthless. You go after what you want without a care for the consequences. I admit, I thought having to deal with a machine that had free will would be…problematic, but you have shown me how much of an advantage it can be in the right hands."
Monty proudly folded his arms. "Don't mention it. I'm just glad I can finally let loose when I've got a problem. No more 'Don't throw things like that! You'll scare the children!' Ha! Anyone gets in my way I'll do a lot more than scare 'em. Especially now."
"Just what I like to hear…but remember, with me you have boundaries with that as well. You've learned that lesson well from last night, I trust? Bare in mind that the free will you have was granted to you using my technology. I know every component of what makes that possible. I can easily take it away from you if you make the wrong move again."
Monty stared at William intently. They may have been allies, but when things like this happened, there was a strong amount of tension between them.
"…Right," the shattered gator responded. "I'll keep that in mind."
William turned his attention to Baby next. "And you will do the same, right Elizabeth? I would hate to lose my dear daughter again…especially if it is at my own hand."
"…Of course, Daddy," the clown responded. It was clear by the tone in her voice that this was a subject that was brought up too often.
"Good," William breathed. "Now I hope you both have learned that we are all on the same side. I let you both help me with this task tonight so that you may be reminded of that fact…and of who you do not want to become."
He looked pointedly at Freddy before he continued. "If any of us shows one ounce of weakness, we all shall fall, so no more of your petty arguments as I saw last night. Understood?"
They both nodded in compliance.
"Excellent," he said turning to Freddy again. "But I'm getting off track here. Tonight is about finally achieving our goals…and frankly, having fun while doing it. We've enjoyed our little preshow, but now I believe it is time to move on to the main event. I can already tell you will never forget about tonight, Mike. How can you? History is about to repeat itself. A child you are close to is about to die tonight, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. He will wonder where you were. What he'd done to deserve this. Why you weren't there to save him. And those thoughts will remain even after his death.
"Don't you understand that you are not a hero, Mike. Evan died because of you, and if you think you can have another chance with this boy, you are deluding yourself. And I will ensure that reality finally sinks in tonight."
The murderer turned back to his compatriots. "I'll need to get communications back online to ensure Vanny's preparations are ready. In the meantime…ensure he doesn't leave."
Baby leaned back and spoke in befuddlement. "But you've taken every precaution to ensure—"
"Yes, I have!" he barked back. "But there is still a myriad of things that can happen. Remember, two of them are still unaccounted for…I'll be back."
Baby and Monty watched as he marched out the side door, bewildered, but after he left, they turned to Freddy keeping to the task at hand.
The whole time Freddy stayed in his position, fully aware of what was happening around him, but not having the will or the energy to do anything. He could only think about Gregory, and as he did, all of Michael's shortcomings flashed in front of him. How could he not feel like a failure, now? It was as if fate had given him another chance to save his brother, or any kid for that matter, from his father's evil clutches, and he blew it! The best chance he had and he blew it!
He just wondered what Evan thought of him now, too. He thought back to when he spoke to him through Cassidy earlier in the week, and realized how hollow it sounded when he said he forgave him. Wherever Evan was now, Freddy was sure he was looking down at him in disgust, seeing that he was about to let another kid die. The bear finally closed his eyes, silently berating himself for losing this battle. Out of anyone he could have failed to save, why did it have to be Gregory? That kid who was so full of life, despite having been through the wringer? Why when he was just finding someone that cares about him for the first time in his life? Just why?
"Michael!"
His eyes popped open when he heard a small voice. He knew Baby and Monty were in the room, but this sounded like it was right next to him. He looked around slightly without moving his head, but no one was in his space.
"Michael!" the voice seemed to say a bit louder. "It's me!"
That voice. It sounded like…It couldn't be…could it?
Freddy tried to speak, "Ev—"
"No! Don't say anything! Didn't you hear dad? They're already suspicious, just let me talk."
Freddy could hardly believe what he was hearing, but he gave a slight nod.
"…Okay. In case your wondering, yes I'm in Freddy with you, and…I was just listening to your thoughts. I want to let you know now…I do forgive you, Michael. I really do. If you knew what was going on, maybe things would have turned out different, but you didn't. I should have told you back then, but I was too scared. What's done is done, now, though, and you've fought so hard for me since then. I wish I could've been as brave as you, so please, don't think I hate you. In fact, I'm proud. You're a better brother than I could have asked for."
The bear felt like crying again, but this time…out of joy. He was forgiven. For once in his life, he was forgiven, and by the one person he didn't deserve it from. He couldn't believe it.
"And I'll tell you something else," Evan went on. "I don't want to be scared anymore, and you're not going to fail tonight. You are going to save that boy, and I am going to help you…There's a feature that has been blocked off in Freddy for a while now that I think might help you. If you want to activate it, wait until just the right moment. I'll have to go soon. Good luck."
Freddy immediately noticed that a command line had appeared in his interface, and when he read what the program was, his eyes went wide.
A/N That'll do it for this one. I hope you enjoyed it. If it feels like I have quite a few redemption stories going on in this chapter…well, that was kind of the hope. Redemption stories have always been a huge inspiration to me, and I felt there were a number of characters in FNAF that I felt deserved it. I mentioned I was a fan of ATLA before, and really, Zuko's story in that show kind of inspired how I wrote Roxy. I hope you like how I took that.
I also hope you're looking forward to what happens with Freddy as well, I wanted to include that whole portion of the story in this chapter, but I felt it might be to long. Ah well, at least we've got something to look forward to. Anyway, I really hope you enjoyed, and be sure to leave a review if you can. Have a good one!
