Later that night…
"Finally."
David had finished hooking up his laptop to the NES console. His brother was currently asleep since it was pretty late so he wasn't worried about getting caught anytime soon.
"Now let's play."
David double clicked on his game but suddenly, the screen went white before shutting off completely.
"What the-" was all David could say before a bright flash of light blinded him.
He was knocked out on the floor before he knew what had happened.
The next morning…
"Huit ah!"
Matt woke up with a yawn and got out of his bed. "I'm glad today is a Sunday."
The teenager changed out of his PJs into his usual school attire and walked outside of his room without noticing that there was a giant gold, red, and silver sword on his back.
"Huh? What happened to all the snacks?" asked Matt. "I guess I'll figure that out later."
He headed into the bathroom to wash up but he then noticed that there was an adult magazine on top of the toilet.
"Since when did dad buy those?"
He ignored it and after a few moments came out of the bathroom with the magazine but was shocked to see several empty cans of soda.
"Okay now what's going on here?"
Matt went back into the bathroom to see what else could have happened and not only found that there were some clothes near the sink and a silver cross necklace but learned that there was a sword on his back.
"Is this Heaven's Gate?"
Sure enough, when Matt removed the sword, he felt an immense amount of holy energy radiate from both him and the blade. "This is the real thing alright but why do I have this weapon with me? I'm not supposed to be able to take things out of the gaming world and into real life. Still for someone like me, this is really light."
Just then something fell and Matt rushed outside to check out what had happened. Something or rather someone had knocked over one of the tables. Matt suspected that it was his brother but he remembered, his brother was still asleep in his room and he hadn't heard his brother open his bedroom door. So that meant someone else was in the house causing all the messes.
He then noticed a red cloth along with what appeared to be the handle of a staff sticking out part way from the sofa.
"I know you're in there. Come out before I attack you. I have a very powerful sword with me and I'm not scared to use it," threatened the teenager.
Slowly, a red haired girl emerged from the sofa while carrying her crystal staff and a blue kitten that had no arms or legs.
"Natalie?" asked Matt.
"How do you know my name?" asked the girl.
"We were traveling partners, remember?" asked Matt. "I'm-"
"I have no idea who you are and why you have that sword but if you're picking a fight with me, then you'll have one," declared Natz as she put down the blue cat and raised her crystal staff.
Matt raised his blade ready to defend himself if necessary, however, before the two could begin their fight, the blue limbess cat made its way to the golden warrior and nudged its head on the leg of the swordsman.
"Hi NoLegs, you'll want to move back in case something bad happens," said the swordsman.
The cat sniffed the warrior a few times before remaining put. Sighing, Matt gave Natz a hand signal to pause their stand off while he placed NoLegs in a safe location. In this case, the safe location was the sofa.
"Okay, let's-" began Matt. "No need."
Matt looked at Natz who had set her staff aside. "This cat says that you're Matt, the muscle and leader of our party."
"Well yeah that's me but how in the world did you get here?" asked Matt.
"I have no idea and neither do the others," replied Natz.
"Others? Don't tell me that Lance and Anna are here as well."
Natz gave him a nod before gesturing to the boy to follow her. Matt entered his parent's bedroom and was shocked to see both Lance and Anna resting on his parent's bed.
"So that's where the porn mag came from," sighed Matt. "What am I going to do with you guys all here?"
"First of all, what are we even doing here," corrected Natz. "Second would be your question."
Matt sheathed his sword before leaving the room. "I have no idea."
Natz followed and eventually saw Matt playing with NoLegs the same way he would play with the cat when they were adventuring.
"Okay, you don't have to prove anything to me now. You're definitely Matt, my traveling partner, but tell me, why am I even here in the first place?"
Matt sighed and put the cat down. "To be honest I have no-Hang on!"
Matt ran out into the garage and saw that his brother was awake dealing with a few characters that he recognized from Genshin Impact.
"Oh no."
"Erm… hi?" said a blonde-haired woman.
Matt walked over to where his brother's laptop was and disconnected it from his console. "David, you're cleaning up whatever mess they make in here."
He then walked into the kitchen to see NoLegs looking through the fridge. "Hungry?" asked Matt.
The cat nodded its head and Matt got some raw fish out for the cat. "Natz, I think I know why now."
Hours later…
Matt was getting ready for the next day while pondering on what to do next. All his attempts of getting the characters back into their game had failed even with the help of the technician who had aided in the modding of the NES console. Currently, he just finished eating dinner with the rest of the EBF team in his room and was studying for a Spanish quiz. His brother and the Genshin Impact characters had taken over the living room as well as the kitchen so Matt couldn't really get any food for them. At least, Matt managed to grab a few bags of chips and several bottles of water so they could survive.
"So you can't fix it?" asked Anna.
"Yep. I can't fix it for now," answered Matt.
"Question," stated Lance.
"Yeah," asked Matt. "Go ahead."
"Where's your laptop?" asked Lance. "That could help in returning us back to our proper dimension."
"It's broken and being replaced right now," answered Matt. "Anyways, it wouldn't have helped much since my laptop only allows us to exit the game, not enter."
Matt got up and put away his Spanish guide and headed towards the door. "I've got school tomorrow so if we plan on discussing anything, we'll have to do it after 4:30pm."
"Wait, you're still in high school?" asked Lance.
"Um, yeah. How old do I look?"
"Like a teenager," answered Lance.
"Then of course I'm one."
The team remained silent for a few minutes before Natz decided to talk.
"What are we going to do while you're gone?"
"Try to stay here and not go anywhere else," answered Matt. "Also please don't call me while I'm away at school and don't follow me to school."
The blonde hair boy put aside the sword and got ready to rest though. This night, though unlike the many other nights, he did not change out of his outside clothes and instead went to sleep in them. After all, it would be awkward if he started changing in front of his teammates.(I must add that even though he has changed in front of his teammates before, the changing did not involve him taking off his clothes literally since the armor that Matt changes into magically replaces the old one. This also applies to the other members as well.)
The other members followed suit though the girls got the bed while Matt and Lance remained on the floor. Before they went to sleep Matt gave them one final statement, "When I go to school tomorrow, I will be entrusting you to look after my sword. I'm not supposed to bring weapons to school so I'll have to leave Heaven's Gate at home. Don't give it to me as well unless you want to be searched for things at school."
"Got it," acknowledged the team.
