"Whoa! What happened to you guys?"
It was currently lunch time. Matt, Seth, Andres, and Edward agreed to meet up during lunch to verbally report any incidents that had happened or to formulate a plan for sending the characters back home. However, Matt, Seth and Andres appeared to the meeting with various cuts and bruises all over themselves.
Edward concentrated his power and healed his friends as they told him what had happened.
One hour ago…
Matt and the rest of his class finally finished all their Spanish III material. Despite this, their teacher still had them make a review booklet on all their material from this year. Their teacher wasn't here today though and left them with a sub who was fresh out of college so most of the class were on their phones chatting with other classmates instead of doing the assignment at hand.
"Say Matt, what are you gonna do this summer?" asked a dark skinned boy.
The blonde student looked at his friend before answering.
"Probably volunteer work at the library or something like that ya know. What about you, Darius?"
"I'm gonna travel the world and come back with a ton of stuff!" exclaimed his friend. "Summer is going to be so fun-"
He was cut off by a loud roar which was accompanied with a large crash outside.
Matt immediately ran outside and saw that a large black dragon had landed at their school and was demolishing a staircase.
"Oh boy."
"What in the world is that?" asked the substitute. The teacher was doing her best to keep everyone calm and prevent people from leaving the classroom but all she did was cause more panic in the classroom. In the midst of the chaos, Matt managed to escape the classroom and confront the dragon. As soon as the dragon saw him, it blasted the blonde boy with a barrage of black flames. However, Matt was quick. The warrior made a special hand movement that caused a symbol that looked like the Tri-force to appear and block the blast. While that was happening, the warrior pulled out two swords from his back and put himself in a dual wielding stance.
"He is so gonna fail this," commented one of the students.
Matt made the first move. He first caused Heaven's Gate to multiply and strike the dragon in multiple places while assaulting the dragon head on with his second blade. Afterwards, he retreated behind another set of stairs while reforming his signature red and gold blade in his right hand.
The dragon responded by roaring and creating a magical spiral that fired dark energy everywhere. Afterwards, it smashed its head on the stairs, destroying them and causing the swordsman to change hiding positions.
After nearly being crushed by a pile of rubble, Matt decided to concentrate all his energy on his two blades and charge at the dragon. The Black Dragon's previous attack left it wide open to any counters that the warrior had in mind.
As soon as the dragon was struck by the two blades, a large explosion of holy energy sent the dragon flying into another set of buildings. Luckily, the crash only destroyed part of the balcony but the dragon still came out without any visible injuries.
"That really took a lot of power," commented Matt. The blonde swordsman was on his knees and having a hard time trying to get up. The dragon also saw this and took the opportunity to blast the warrior with an enormous stream of black fire.
Right before the stream of fire could strike him, several red hexagons appeared and expanded to form a shield in front of the warrior. A few moments after the flames died down, the shield disappeared and Matt got up.
"Edward, if you were the one who casted the shield, please start a thunderstorm to weaken this beast," said Matt.
"You're talking to the wrong person," answered a familiar feminine voice.
"Natz?"
Matt turned around and lo and behold, the red mage was standing right behind him with her crystal staff at the ready.
"Yes and please don't ask why I'm here," said the red head.
"I wasn't going to even ask."
Matt could already figure out all the various tricks Natz must've used to leave school and come rescue him.
"Then what were you going to ask me to do?"
"I was going to ask if you could toss me something to refill my MP points. The last attack took me to zero."
Unlike everyone else who could only use their MP points in equal bursts, Matt could use up all his MP at once by sending all the MP he had stored up inside himself to the blade(s) that he was using and striking the foe. This could in turn cause the foe he hit to be blown away by the weapon's full elemental power but would also leave him with no energy left to defend himself.
"Got it. Here."
Matt caught the cupcake and downed it in one go. A few moments later, large amounts of holy energy began to radiate from Matt's weapons though, the energy died down after several seconds.
"Stay down," instructed Natz. "You still need to rest a bit."
Matt nodded and lowered his blades. The dragon saw this and took the opportunity to blast the duo. Before the blast could reach them though, Matt managed to put up a shield and prevent the fire from cooking him and his partner alive. Once the flames died down though, Matt saw that the dragon was no longer fighting him but someone else.
"Andres? What are you doing?"
"Don't worry guys. I'll distract him for now. Just get some rest," declared the archer.
The dragon continuously swiped at the ranger but every one of its attacks missed. Andres retaliated by continuously firing glowing arrows at the beast but after some time, his luck ran out. The dragon managed to land a hit that knocked him off balance. Before the archer could get up, Andres found himself being pummeled by the giant lizard.
"Another hit like this and I'm done for sure."
Right before the final blow connected, a sword made of light appeared and stabbed the dragon, causing it to miss and change its target.
"Natz! Heal Andre and prepare for our final attack! Andre! Move to our position!" yelled Matt.
Andres did as he was told and watched as sparkling light trails circled around him before disappearing. Once that had happened, several cuts and bruises disappeared from Andres' body.
"Woah, what was that?"
"We can talk later. For now, let's finish the job!" declared Natz.
The trio concentrated their MP points and delivered their most fatal holy attacks to the dragon and watched as the Lizard collapsed and disappeared on the ground.
"That was close," breathed Matt.
"I agree," commented Andres.
The trio sheathed their weapons before heading back to their proper classes.
"Let's hope Seth had a better time than us."
Meanwhile…
"Thanks Lance!" said a very tired Seth. His clothes had been torn apart but aside from that, he was fine.
"No problem I just hope you don't have to deal with any more Drill Golems while at school," replied Lance.
"On the other hand, if you need any more help, feel free to call me."
The soldier boy grabbed a hold of one of his drones and flew away but not before leaving behind some MP replenishing items.
Now…
"Oh I see. Sorry guys. I should have been there," apologized Edward.
"No worries. We did fine," commented Seth.
Matt brought out several burgers and passed it out to the rest of the guys while Andres brought several papers for the guys.
"Any ideas? We should list them out and cross them off as we go."
"Yeah," said Edward. "How about-"
"Woah! Where'd you get that sword from?"
Matt stops Edward and turns around to see Darius holding two swords that he recognized as his own.
As Darius passed off some random explanation, Matt concentrated all his energy onto one of the blades and caused it to disappear and reappear in his hands.
"Holy cow! Hey! Matt stole that!"
Darius looked at the blonde warrior who was now holding one of the two weapons.
"Hey Matt, I think you should give that back."
"Really? Those are actually my blades that you are holding. How did you even get them in the first place?" asked Matt. "I never took out Devil's Sunrise and Heaven's Gate was kept with me at all times."
Darius simply smiled before putting himself in a dueling position. "You should really watch your back more often."
Matt simply threw aside his signature sword and replaced it with a new white and black blade. The energy it emitted was still the same. "Give back that sword, or there will be blood."
"I think not."
Darius lunged forward and attempted to strike the swordsman. Matt dogged the attack at the last second and attempted to cut his former friend with his sword. However, he missed and his blade hit Darius' newly stolen sword. Upon making contact with the blade, a enormous blast of energy sent the two fighters flying in the opposite direction.
Darius got back up but was greeted with a powerful smash from a powerful blue colored blade followed by a large stream of water. He then blocked another hit from a fancy looking chainsaw sword meant for his arm and another from a spear that resembled a drill.
Matt continuously swapped his melee weapons as he fought. "That sword has the ability to drain out the power of a single weapon if its used to much. I need to swap out after every block to prevent that sword from adapting and draining the power of each weapon." Matt pulled out golden sword that resembled a dragon and targeted the legs. Upon making contact, Darius felt a hundred volts of electricity come into his body and fry his legs. However, the wounds quickly healed and any cuts that he received disappeared as if they had never been there at all.
The two fighters paused their fight for a moment.
"I like this sword. It makes me feel invincible."
"Darius, it's corrupting you. Give it back before it takes over your mind," warned Matt.
"I don't think so."
The two fighters clashed blades again. This time, Matt was using the same black and white blade as before and caused a large amount of energy to explode from the weapons. While Darius found himself being blinded by a flash of white light, Matt found himself being surrounded by dark spirits. By instinct, the blonde warrior stabbed his sword into the ground and watched as the spirits flew back underground. Darius, on the other hand, swung his blade at the white light, causing the ball of holy energy to dissipate and allow him to regain his sight.
"Darius. I'm giving you one last chance. Return the blade or face judgment," threatened Matt.
"Never."
The two swordsmen clashed blades one final time. This time, instead of a large burst of energy, Darius' Devil's Sunrise cut right through the black and white sword and struck Matt squarely in the chest. Matt found himself kneeling down in pain while clutching a broken sword in one hand and his chest in the other.
"Looks like you're the one who will be facing judgment today," mocked Darius.
Just then, a powerful pillar of energy emerged from the ground and blasted Darius into the sky. Upon landing, he found himself facing three other fighters, each wielding a different weapon.
"Reinforcements. You've managed to hold me off this time but the next time we meet, your friends will be diggin a grave."
Darius used his sword to open up a dark hole that he disappeared into. Before any of them could follow, the hole closed up and Darius was gone.
