Chapter 6
Blood.
That was the first thought that came to mind as we reached the village's entrance.
The smell of blood was nauseating, though not as much as the sight that greeted us when we entered the village.
The corpses of the villagers, or what remained of them at least, strewn about the road.
I could barely identify a few that I'd met during my stay here, like Baker John, the one Musashi would always beg for more cake, or Lisa, the enthusiastic girl tried to get Musash to tell about her adventures whenever we were around.
Alyssa, the nice seamstress who made me some sleeping clothes as a welcoming gift.
Erwin, the good humored smith who was always getting drunk in the inn.
Lewis, Jerry, Erika…
All of them dead.
Why?
"…Who would do something like this?"
As I looked to Musashi, hoping she might be able to shed some light over this dark situation, my breathing hitched when I noticed that she was fading away, watching as motes of golden light slowly drifted away from her body.
"Seems like my time's up, huh? Damn, I really wanted to deal with whoever did this." She sighed an then looked at me. "Give them hell, alright Jacob?"
"…Yes sensei!"
"I'm counting on you, my cute apprentice! I look forward to seeing your progress next time we meet!" And with a final smile, she was gone.
So, after taking a deep breath, I looked in the direction where my sixth sense told me I would find the enemy.
And I moved.
After passing by many destroyed buildings, all vacant of life and filled with bloodstains that spoke of the horrors that transpired not long before, I finally reached my destination.
The man who seemed to be appraising the destruction he had caused.
He had half of his hair white and the other half black.
His green magatama earrings and green pointy nails were also quite distinctive.
Though what really caught my attention was his smile.
It really pissed me off, and sent chills down my spine at the same time. My sixth sense was screaming at me that this man was much more terrifying than the Elder Dragon.
"So, the swordswoman has left, huh?" He continued to look at the remains of the destruction, not even bothering to look i my direction as he talked to me.
I gripped my sword harder.
"…"
"Not much of a talking Servant, I see. But your silence is enough of an answer."
"…Why?" I managed to utter through my gritted teeth.
"Why? Well, I was tasked with searching for something. Unfortunately, even though this was close, it wasn't it. So, to encourage myself, I decided to massacre this place!" His eyes turned black with red pupils for a moment, before he seemed to compose himself. " I made them tremble before the dark sun, as I sacrificed them to HER!"
"To whom?"
"…It doesn't matter, at least not yet. Besides, I've already told you so much, and you have yet to tell anything, even me your name! So, tell me, who are you?"
"…I'm the Eye Hunter." I said the first thing that came into mind, since telling him my True Name would be a bad idea.
"Eye Hunter, hm…never heard of you before. Well, but since you told me who you are, I might as well reciprocate. I'm Caster of Limbo. Now, shall we?"
I didn't need to ask what he meant, for there was only path in front of us.
So I charged.
I lost.
Or rather, he completely decimated me.
He used curses, against which I could only brace myself, and despite the few good hits I managed to give him, he seemed unfazed.
I, on the other hand, only got worse as our fight continued, and when he used his Noble Phantasm, I recalled what he said about making the villagers fear the dark sun.
When I was down, he pinned me to the ground with what looked to be paper daggers, but as they pierced through my body, I realized there was something more to them.
They were cursed as well.
"Well, that was…Disappointing, honestly. I thought you would manage to put more of a fight. Although I have to ask…What is your actual Class? When I look at you, I see an Assassin, but…I have a feeling that there is more to it that I can't see."
This was bad. I could feel my Spirit Core crack, and I knew I wouldn't last much longer. So I decided to make a last stand.
I was scared of dying, but I was even more scared of letting this guy get away with what he had done.
"Other men are bound by morality or law. To me, everything is permitted."
As I went through the cursed paper daggers as if they were illusory, Limbo's eyes widened.
"I walk in the shadows, to serve the light. I am an ASSASSIN"
Suddenly, darkness engulfed our surroundings, and I nearly instantly appeared by his side, and I cut at him with my sword.
Unlike the Elder Dragon, he managed to dodge my attack at the nick of time.
He didn't predict, however, that I would follow through with another attack, this time with my hidden blade, which cost him an eye.
It seems like the name I chose is quite fitting, actually.
I didn't manage to celebrate the small victory or sulk at missing the opportunity to kill him, though, because it seemed I had finally pissed him off.
And with a swipe of his claws that were covered in cursed electricity, he destroyed my core.
As my body dissolved in golden light, I could only say…
"I'm sorry sensei…I failed you."
And then I was no more.
In another world, in a place covered in snow, Jacob body suddenly appeared in a flash of light.
His attire, once an Assassin's war cloak, was now a Japanese samurai's robe.
And then he opened his eyes.
And that makes six. Hope you guys enjoyed it.
Now for Jacob's current stat sheet:
True Name: Jacob Stone
Class: Type-Earth (Saber)
Origin: Modern Age (Age of Humanity), Ancient Greek Mythology, ?
Alignment: Neutral-Good
Gender: Male
Parameters
STR: B- | END C+
AGL: B- | MP: D+
LUK: B | NP: N/A
Class Skills
Sub-Class System (C): Allows a servant to take on the attributes of 4 different Classes among the main 7. In Jacob's case, the available classes are Assassin, Saber, Archer and Lancer.
Personal Skills
Gaea's Blessing (EX): For the purpose of aiding the World, Jacob was chosen by Gaea to become Her avatar on the fight to come. This Skill is the Grace She bestowed upon him to help him grow. All sorts of Skills can be acquired and grow up to B+ so long as Jacob trains them enough. All Parameters aside from LUK can be trained to B+ so long as Jacob trains them enough. To achieve a higher rank on both Skills and Parameters, a notable feat worthy of a legend must be accomplished.
Presence Concealment (C): Hides one's presence as a Servant. Suitable for spying. The rank of Presence Concealment drops considerably when preparing to attack. Due to being summoned at least once as an Assassin for his sub-Class, this Skill has been granted to Jacob, though should his sub-Class change, the rank of the Skill will be dropped by one.
Magic Resistance (B): Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by greater magecraft or Greater Rituals, it is difficult for them to be affected. Originally, Jacob had no Magical Resistance due to being a modern Heroic Spirit, but because of his Skill Gaea's Blessing, he was bestowed with the lowest level of Magic Resistance after being cursed by a Phantasmal. After enduring a fight with Caster of Limbo, thanks to Gaea's Blessing, the rank of this Skill went up significantly. Due to being summoned at least once as a Saber for his sub-Class, this Skill has been improved by one rank, though should his sub-Class change, the rank of the Skill will be dropped by one.
[NEW] Riding (C): One can flawlessly manage beasts and vehicles if they have received the proper training and adjustments. Most vehicles and animals can be handled with above average skill. However, cannot ride the likes of Phantasmal Species such as Monstrous Beasts. Due to being summoned at least once as a Saber for his sub-Class, this Skill has been granted to Jacob, though should his sub-Class change, the rank of the Skill will be dropped by one.
[NEW] Independent Action (A+): The Servant can operate without a Master. With a Rank of A+ that exceeds even A, the support of a Master is unnecessary even while unleashing a large amount of Magical Energy. It is an ability that bends the rules and allows for the continued materialisation of Servants even after the conclusion of a Holy Grail War. After enduring a long period of time without a Master, thanks to Gaea's Blessing, Jacob has been bestowed with this Skill.
Noble Phantasm
The Oath of an Assassin (EX - Assassin sub-Class Exclusive): There are three verses in the oath. The first, "Other men blindly follow the truth. I know that nothing is true." allows Jacob to break out of any illusion or Reality Marble, as it denies both. The second, "Other men are bound by morality or law. To me, everything is permitted.", gives him the ability to break free from anything physical or mystical that might be binding him. And the third, "I walk in the shadows, to serve the light. I am an ASSASSIN", greatly increases Jacob speed and strength, which allows him to deal significant damage to the enemy, and it can also create a zone of darkness should Jacob desire, to aid him in his attack. However, unlike spells where the more verses, the more powerful the magecraft, should Jacob choose to chant more than one verse, they must be chanted according to the order they were made, and the power of the verse(s) that follow the first to be chanted will be greatly decreased.
