Chapter 8

I don't know how long I stayed there mesmerized by his swordsmanship. He was someone above even Musashi, though only because she hadn't reached her pinnacle yet, if my senses didn't fail me.

And the more he swung, the stronger a slight pressure inside of my mind grew. I could feel something inside of me resonating with his moves.

And then, as he finished his demonstration, he looked at me.

"…Please, save this World that has lost it's way."

"How?" I asked back, seeing as the dreamed continued.

"You must find the mountain of the Destroyer, where he trapped the Flames of Origin. As long as they are not released, the people of this World will remain in frozen forever. And the Ice Age will never end."

"Wait, so everyone here is frozen?"

"Indeed. All humans and animals have been frozen for countless years. All that remains are Phantasmals and elemental spirits, like your fox friend or the demonic squirrels who were robbed by you. She can guide you through this frozen land, and lead you to where you must go."

"…I will do my best."

"Use my blessing wisely. Now, I believe it's time for you to wake up."

"Wait, at least tell me your name!"

"Call me Ignis."

I woke up with a wet feeling on my face.

As I opened my eyes, I could see my companion licking my face.

"I'm awake, so you can stop already."

She gave me a last lick, and then retreated to the dead campfire. Getting the hint, I moved to prepare us breakfast after wiping my face clean, and then sat down to eat, for once thankful that my little friend was distracted so I could gather my thoughts about the dream I had last night.

Unlike my first World, in this one I had been informed about what was happening and what to do if he was to be trusted, alongside being given a new ability and new insights on my Path, as Musashi-sensei would call it.

Maybe I should think a bit more about just heeding a stranger's mission, but…

"It's not like I have any other hints about what to do in this place anyway. Might as well give it a try." I sigh at my lack of options in this life. But then again, a Servant's duty is to serve the will of others, so I guess it'll be much better if I start getting used to this.

Kori looked at me curiously when I sighed, but I just scratched the back of her neck to reassure her.

"So, you are a spirit, huh? That explains why you are so smart, I guess. Do you have any cool spirit abilities?" I asked while smiling at her.

My hand froze when she created ice spikes that impaled a nearby tree.

I then resumed scratching when she looked up at me.

"Note to self, never piss you off. Now, about this guiding I've heard about…"

When the mysterious man told me about the fox guiding me, I thought she was just going to take me directly to the enemy.

I didn't think she would take me to a scary woman in some weird cave.

I couldn't see her face as she was mostly covered by her hood, but I saw her dark smile when I reached close enough.

"So, it seems I wasn't the only one summoned to this frigid hell. Good to know. So, friend or foe?" She asked, and when she said foe, I could feel really thin wires wrap around my neck. One wrong movement, and my mission would end before it even started.

"I'm here to rescue the people from their frozen tombs. I really hope that's your side as well." I answered nervously.

For a few moments, she just stared at me silently, watching me sweat.

Then I felt the wires uncoil from my neck, and I exhaled in relief, before blushing when I noticed her smirking at me.

"Scared you, did I?" She approached me and Kori, only to finally notice my furry friend.

And her reaction sent me for a loop.

"Aaaawwww, aren't you the cutest?" Faster than I could react she suddenly had her arms full of white fox, and started spinning around starry eyed.

Oh yeah, I could see her eyes now because her hood fell off when she started spinning.

My left eye started to tick as I resisted the familiar urge of facepalming.

What is the point of hiding your face with a hood if you would reveal it so easily? And what was going on with the girls I met not having a natural hair color? I mean, her hair was a really beautiful shade of purple, but still…

After waiting for a while, and seeing that she wasn't close to stopping, I coughed in my hand to try and grab her attention, and with how she suddenly froze, I believe it's fair to say that I'd succeeded.

"…This never happened." She tried to look intimidating, but it was kind of ruined by her blushing face.

"It's a bit hard getting afraid when I know you are a real softie on the inside. You're also really cute when you blush, by the way." That only made her blush harder, and I smirked at her until Kori, the little traitor, tackled me for interrupting her fun, which caused the "mysterious" lady to laugh at my misfortune.

Well, at least this journey won't be dull, that's for sure.

And the chapter eight is done!

Just to make it clear, the lady is Medea, in case my descriptions weren't enough. The blessing Jacob received allows him to use fire while wielding his sword, making his attacks more effective on those who have a cold nature, but I'll leave the descriptions for a later chapter, when I update his status sheet.

Hope you enjoyed!
