Chapter 9

It seems things won't be as easy as I thought.

Medea, as she introduced herself after I told her my True Name, had been summoned here around the same time as myself, and although normally we should keep our identities a secret, considering this was an anomaly (for her at least, quite expected for me), we agreed that it would be easier to work together if we showed some trust.

I mean, there was a moment she doubted my word since she didn't recognize my name, but as I explained that I was a really modern Servant and swore that was my name under her magic, she relented and became much friendlier.

The fact I let her carry Kori helped as well.

After that was resolved, we shared what we knew about this place.

I told her how some "Destroyer" had frozen the entire world, and she told me that she had found a cave that had three layers of magical shields, connected to different temples according to what she investigated, and that we would need to defeat those if we wanted to fight the final boss.

Things got even more complicated as, if Medea's guess was right, we would have a Divine Beast as our "Final Boss", and whatever it was, it had a magical source of Holy Grail level feeding it energy. Fortunately, Medea's Noble Phantasm should be able to sever their connection.

Which would just leave us with a pissed off Divine Beast to deal with.

Have I mentioned the fact that each temple had an army of demon wolves, and a "Small Boss", of their own?

Like, if my life had to be so similar to a videogame, couldn't it have been a more of a farming one?

And I mean that like farming potatoes, not farming monsters.

I also asked Medea a bit about what could be done with the remains of the wolves, and she got this really weird glint in her eyes when I showed her my spoils…

…And then I was revealed that, whenever she killed one of those wolves, they would just disperse in golden motes of light like Servants did, leaving nothing behind. They didn't leave behind a normal Magic Beast corpse, unlike the wyverns and other creatures I met on the previous World.

And now she was looking at me as if I was a meal, and she a starving woman.

I only hope something good comes out of it.

"So what did you manage to find?"

"Well, apparently these are only temporary, and as I expected, they will disappear in a few weeks. So don't get too attached to that monstrosity you called a dagger. However, this magic seems to resonate with the Divine Beast, so if we collect enough of this bones, fur, teeth and claws I can find a way to restrain the Divine Beast's power."

"…So, I'm going to have to harvest every wolf we kill from now on?"

"Yes!" While her smile was cheerful, it only filled me with dread. "Now, let us go, we need to start dealing with these as soon as possible."

"But, since you're a Caster, wouldn't it be better if we waited so you could make more preparations?"

"Ideally, yes, but from what I've seen, our enemies' forces will only grow more and more as time passes, and as I said the remains we collect will only last for a limited period of time, so we are on a race against time. Besides, you are talking to the great Witch of Colchis. I already have made enough preparations for what is to come."

If it was when we just met, I would have been glad to just comply, so as to not attract the wrath of such infamous tragic greek character, but…

"You know it's hard to take you seriously when you have Kori on the top of your head, right?" I asked her with a blank face.

"W-well, never mind that, let's just go already!"

"Alright, lead the way."

And so started our journey to save this World.

After walking for some time, we finally met a group of wolves, around nine, and this took a bit of time as one of them had blue marks instead of the common green ones, and had quite the tough body, but thanks to Medea's support and Ignis' blessing, we managed them and only left with some scratches.

I left with scratches, I mean. Medea was unscathed.

After harvesting them, we started moving again. From time to time we would meet other groups of wolves, some had more blue ones, others had different types with yellow or red markings, with the yellow ones hitting harder and the red ones biting and scratching far more.

Medea said after examining their body parts that the blue ones had better quality fur, so that's what we should harvest from them, the same applying to the yellow one's bones, and the red one's claws and teeth. In exchange though, harvesting anything else from them wasn't feasible as the magic was concentrated on their best body parts, making the other parts far too mundane for our use.

Only the green ones could be harvested for everything, and only their meat could help us remain stable with their magical content, though in exchange we would have to kill many green ones to get enough of the other specific body parts, so we mainly harvested them for their meat, only sometimes harvesting other body parts.

And after killing many demon wolves, we finally reached our first temple.

And that's the ninth.

I tried to make it so this World would be more similar to the mechanics of an event, where only by having Jacob on the team would allow for the monster to drop those parts. And the "better quality" of certain materials would be the explanation for the higher drop rates of different types of certain materials by enemy mobs, as each one drop would be the equivalent of a standard measure, which is the green wolf drop.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed.
