Chapter 12

A young girl was skipping across the beach, whistling to herself. She was returning home after spending quite a while collecting shells, that she stored in a small leather pouch she carried on her hip. It was quite the adorable scene.

If you don't consider the shadow stalking her from the sea.

The waters in this beach got deep quite suddenly, and it's shore was only a few tens of meters away from a small marine trench, that went 200 meters deep.

And when the monster hiding in the waters finally decided to act, it quickly charged to attack the unaware child, closing the distance in a few short seconds.

The girl only noticed what was happening too late, and knowing there was nothing she could do, she closed her eyes and braced herself for the bite.

A bite that never came.

She flinched when she heard a squelching sound, but she felt confused when no pain followed.

"Are you okay kid?"

She opened her eyes, and almost screamed at the pig-headed person, before noticing it was just a mask.

A man wearing a fluffy pig mask was standing between her and the corpse of the sea creature that attempted to attack her. He was wearing a red cape with white fur at the neck, and midnight full-body black armor that had glowing blue veins throughout it's design. He also wielded a sea-green trident, that was also covered by those glowing veins.

"Are you okay?" The man softly asked again, and broke her out of her daze.

"Y-yes, thank you sir."

"Don't sweat about it. Do you want me to accompany you home? It's not safe to be alone with these monsters on the loose."

"Yes, please! My mom said I shouldn't leave without the company of an adult, but today is her birthday and I wanted to make something special, and no one in the village wanted to leave so soon in the morning to collect shells with me!" She pouted at the end, her fear seemingly faded away.

"You are really talkative, huh? Now come on, let's get you back home safely. That's the best gift you can give your mother today." He put his hand on her shoulder and started leading her away from the corpse.

"Sure! My home is this way! By the way, my name is Inana. What is yours?" She asked after pointing the direction to her village.

"You can call me Techno."

"Ina! Thank the Sea Spirit! I thought I had lost you!" When I arrived near the small fishing village with Inana, a woman that looked like an older version of my small companion came barreling towards us. "Are you hurt anywhere? Why did you leave? I told you it was dangerous!"

"Ma, I'm fine! And look, I even found a lot of pretty shells for you!" The girl's eyes gleamed as she showed her treasure.

As the worried mother fussed over her daughter while scolding her at the same time, I looked over at the place they lived.

It was nice. Many wooden shacks extended along the small omega shaped coast, that had a reef barrier between the salty lake and the sea, with classic catamaran boats tied to small wooden posts floating on the crystal waters. Plenty of people were going about their days, but I could feel the gazes of many upon me, which is understandable. I honestly cannot blame them.

I DO have a pig mask covering most of my head after all. Still no idea why, but if I had to guess, Gaea chose a certain anarchist Minecraft player as the "theme" for my sub-Class.

I'm not an idiot. She did the something similar with the other two, after all. One from the Assassin's Creed franchise, and the other…I would just have guessed random samurai if it weren't for the flame wielding thing, but now Demon Slayer seems like the obvious choice. But that just confused me, since according to the information dump I received from her, those are not Heroic Spirits, as that would make me a Pseudo-Servant, and that's not the case.

As I pondered to myself about the reasons of my contractor, and what it did with the free time it had, the mother-daughter duo finished their conversation, and the mother approached me.

"Thank you so much for saving my precious little Ina! Techno, was it? Please accompany us to dinner tonight, so I may thank you properly."

"Yes, that's me, and it was no trouble at all ma'am." I assured her, while scratching the back of my head.

"Still, I insist you eat with us. I'm always happy to have guests." She insisted, and as I looked at her, I noticed she had a determined glint that reminded me of my grandma trying to get me and my brother to try her new pie recipes.

"…I would be glad to join you."

"This is delicious!" I exclaimed, as I ate the honey chicken.

"I told you Ma made the best food!" Little Inana was practically breathing in the food.

"Don't eat so fast, you'll make yourself sick!" Her mother, whose name I'd learned to be Sina, scolded her.

It all felt very familiar. Like back home.

I smiled sadly, but thankfully the other two didn't notice.

When dinner ended, Inana went to sleep, after Sina gave her a big hug and told her how much she liked the shells she was given, but that they weren't worth risking her life for.

As I helped Sina prepare a spare room, I asked her about something that had been bothering me for a while.

"Inana talked so much about you and your husband, that I was expecting to meet you both here. And I noticed most men that we saw around here were either elderly or children. So I was curious if there is something going on here."

She froze for a moment, and then sighed before resuming her work.

"It's because of the arrival of the Blood Moon. It means the time for the reckoning of our people has arrived."

Hey guys, hope you enjoyed this chapter.

Yes, the Lancer version of Jacob is Technoblade, but his appearance remains the same as his original one. No pink hair or pointy ears. At least for now. And he is self-aware about what his sub-Classes are inspired by.

To better visualize his attire, think of his armor like Gilgamesh's, but with black instead of gold, the marking more of a fluorescent sky blue than the deep tone in Gilgamesh's, and not so big on the shoulders. And no red mantle coming from inside the armor. As for the mask, use Doomsday by NagalieArt on youtube as a reference.
