"We cannot release you yet. We will make you as comfortable as possible, but you will remain chained until we know that you are in control."

Stuart grumbled, but accepted it. He still remembered his loss of control under Crandall's spell. He remembered devouring his brother…

"You might as well tell us you story."

"Fine, if you tell me yours. Specially the vampire."

"Later, your story first"

"And did he tell you?"

"Yes. Family curse. Males in the family went wolf every full moon. They were warned by their mothers and told what to expect."

"How many males? I mean you would expect a full infestation of werewolves."

"Yes, it would be if they followed the regular pattern with several brothers and sisters each generation, with each of them having children. But no. Ever since the curse came upon them it was a brother and a sister. The brother never married; in fact, he was warned not to have children. The woman married and had a son and a daughter, and her job was to warn her children. Her son to go wolf and never reproduce, the daughter to have two children. The pattern broke with Stuart. He did not have a sister, just a twin brother."

"And since he did not reproduce the line would end with him."

Amos snickered. I suspect not. I think that Owen slept around a lot and there must be children from that. Also, the unmarried uncles, they too must have slept around. Yes, I think that there were more werewolves that we are aware of."

"So we must expect more werewolves coming here?"

"I do not know where they would go, but if they come, we should not be surprised. I do hope they come here. We can help them control themselves."

"So, this is my family's history. I could control myself, though at first, I chafed at it. Owen could not. He did not like to be constrained, to be "regimented" as he called it. He wanted to find another way." Stuart sighed. "So, I think that's how Crandall got his hooks on him. And why he got mixed up with criminals, so that he could indulge his wild urges into a "normal" way – if you can call killing for a mob boss 'normal". He paid with his life for that mistake."

"We are not responsible for what we are, but we are responsible for how we handle it." Amos said. "I learned how to handle what I am… I shudder what it would be like if I was irresponsible."

"Probably got yourself killed. A trail of drained bodies is not that difficult to track"

"Yes, I can see that."

Stuart dug into his pockets "The man in the family always was given this medal, which he left to his male nephew at his death. It was supposed to hold the secret of our family and its curse."
