BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BE-
Ugh…
I slowly opened my eyes to the darkness of my room, and the warm, soft feeling of Satori's hoodie, which he hadn't taken off last night when I pulled him into my bed.
Silence filled the room. I felt Satori's arm reach from over my head where he had turned off my blaring alarm clock and onto my back, rubbing it in the process.
Just like a boyfriend would, only...
I felt tears threatening to fall, but I held them back.
"Michelle, it's time to get up~" He whispered, rubbing my back still.
"Five more minutes…" I mumbled back, burying my face deeper into his chest.
Please, five more lifetimes of this...please.
He sighed, but I could (hopefully) tell that he wanted to go back to sleep too. That, or maybe he wanted to stay just like this.
"Fiiiiine. Five more minutes, but I'm watching the clock, missy." He whispered. And I knew he was. This wasn't the first time I had done this, called or texted him to come over late into the night, and stayed in bed with him until we would be late in the morning for class. I had almost stopped them after that one time…
That night…
A night like any other, back when it was a whole lot warmer than it was now. Back in... April? I think? I texted Satori to come over because I couldn't sleep, like always. Fifth night in a row. Or was it the sixth? He walked up the stairs instead of coming through the window. My parents weren't home, and he had a spare key.
Unlike other nights, however, I couldn't stop crying. I don't know what it was. Some playful jab I took to heart from Naruki? A failed attempt at breaking up Naruki and Yuki fighting in the club? I couldn't honestly remember. Just that I was crying, the storms were loud and painful, and that I couldn't stop.
When he got up to my room, the look on his face made me cry even harder. The quick switch from chill and happy to concerned and anxious in the blink of an eye. The only thought I had was that he shouldn't be worried about me. The memory is a blur from then on, save for the little conversation we had before we fell asleep in my bed, together, like always. My face was in his chest, like always. His chin on the top of my head, like always. He was rubbing my back, like always. Like soothing a crying child. Heh.
"It's okay, Michelle. I'm here. I'll always be here." He said, his voice reverberating in his chest. It felt nice.
I said nothing, and simply stayed there, silent, unmoving, the only noises coming from me were my still hitching breaths. I gathered what strength I had and whispered.
"You don't have to do this, y'know. I'm sorry for being such a burden."
I felt him hug me closer and tighter, whispering back.
"No, you're my best friend. I do. And even if I didn't, I always would. Because you mean so much to me."
And as I fell asleep, I think I heard him whisper something else, but I'm not sure.
"Alright sleepy head, it's been five minutes." He whispered to me, breaking me from my stupor. I sighed, my hopes being dashed of the five minutes being longer than what they were, and untangled myself from Satori, and got out of bed.
I began taking off my pajama shirt before I stopped and blushed.
"Oh yeah. You're here. Look away." I said, turning to Satori, who was also blushing and looked like a deer caught in the headlights when I turned with my shirt just barely under my braless boobs.
"Yep! Turning away!" He said, jerking his entire body towards the opposite wall. I chuckled a little.
Wouldn't be that bad if he looked.
I peeled the shirt off, following with the pajama bottoms as well. Walking over to my closet, I thought of what I was going to wear.
Sweater would be good, but I'd rather have a hoodie. Wayyy more flexible.
I snatched my sports bra out first, then the ridiculous school uniform we're forced to wear, and threw them both on. Next, I reached for the knee length black skirt, throwing that on as well, despite my annoyance. Lastly, I grabbed the black and red hoodie Satori got me for my 16th birthday and threw it on. I took a second to look at the cute little black heart on the red background of the chest area of the hoodie, a pair of white angel wings coming out of the sides. I smiled at the little design.
I love this hoodie almost as much as him, honestly.
"Alright, I'm half decent." I said, watching as Satori turned around slowly, letting out a breath as he saw me fully clothed.
"Do you wanna go start breakfast Satori? I think we have some time before we have to leave." I say, looking over to my alarm clock, which now read:
6:42
Satori put a finger to his lips, pushing upwards ever so slightly, his face of extreme concentration.
Cute.
"Yeah, I'll go start breakfast. Do you want toast and eggs like usual?" He said, a smile now replacing the concentrated face.
Even cuter.
I chuckled.
"Yeah, that sounds good. I'll take the bathroom first while you're cooking, 'kay?" I said, walking into the connecting bathroom across from my bed.
"'Kay!" Satori said, as I heard him spring off my bed and out of room, his footfalls giving off a resounding thud each time he took a step down my staircase.
I flicked on the light as I walked into the bathroom. I looked myself over in the mirror.
No new acne from stress, so that's good...hair could be brushed, though...same with the teeth.
I grabbed my toothbrush and laid out a nice even line of toothpaste before scrubbing my mouth clean of my morning breath, counting down from 120. Once I hit 1, I gathered all the toothpaste into my mouth and spat it out and turned on the faucet. I washed off my toothbrush, and grabbed my morning cup, dashing a bit of water in it. I pulled the water into my mouth, swished it around, before spitting it out as well into the sink.
Next, I grabbed my hairbrush, and went through my hair with it. My hair was tangled, sure, but I was used to it.
After all, all the time spent in my bed, crying my eyes out, makes my hair more than just messy.
Once I had untangled my bed head, I splashed some water in my face and slapped my pale cheeks to give them a bit of color. I turned the faucet off and headed out of my bathroom. I grabbed my phone off my bed and my bag from the corner of my bed and headed out, getting hit with the smell of bacon and eggs, making my mouth water.
I forgot Satori can actually cook now…
I walked down the stairs to see Satori, moving eggs around in a pan, bacon sizzling on another.
… And thank god he can, because I sure as hell can't.
"Bacon too Satori? All out buffet this morning, I guess." I joked, while taking a seat at the table.
"Haha, yeah. I saw it and couldn't just not make some alongside eggs. They go too perfectly together!" He said, not turning around. Must be concentrating. I pulled out my phone, and started swiping, chuckling occasionally at a funny meme or a post on Trotter.
I heard a series of clicks, indicating the stove was now off, and looked up to see Satori grabbing plates from my cabinet. I heard the all too familiar noise of my toaster going off as well, seeing two nicely browned pieces pop up.
"Here, lemme help. I'd like for you to be able to use the bathroom before we leave." I said, getting out of my chair and putting my phone in my hoodie pocket.
Yeah, real thoughtful of you to help now that he's done, M. Idiot.
I grabbed a piece of toast, two of the four eggs, and 2 slices of bacon and put them all on the plate, and did the same for the other plate as Satori moved the pans into the sink and started washing them, the steam of the hot metal fogging up the room slightly.
I put one plate in the microwave so it wouldn't get cold, and put the other plate on the table as I walked over to the sink.
"Here, let me. You still need to use the bathroom and stuff." I said, as I put my hands over his and started lightly pulling them off the pan he was cleaning.
"We have time, don't worry. Plus, I did this, so I gotta clean it. Sit down and eat, I don't want your food getting cold." He replied, his grip tightening on the pan as he scrubbed.
"No, go use the bathroom. I can handle a pan, just not if it has cooking food in it." I doubled my efforts to grab the pan, but he was stalwart.
"Nah, my mess, my responsibility. Now eat, your food is getting cold, and I don't want you getting sick from it." He said.
"No, my house, my resp- Wait, what did you just say? You can't get sick from cold food you dummy. But you can get sick from not being hygienic." I said, my hands finally finding foothold on the pan.
"Now go…"
"Brush…"
"Your teeth!" I finally ripped the pan out of his hands. He pouted, looking me in the face, arms crossed. I felt my heart flutter.
God, why is he so fucking cute when he's pouting. Why god? Why do you forsake me like this?
"Fiiiiiiiine. I'll go brush my teeth. But we have to stop by my house after we get finished with breakfast. Gotta get my bag and stuff, 'kay?" He said, as he started towards the stairs.
"Yeah, yeah, now hurry up. I'd like to enjoy my meal with my bo- best friend. My best friend." I cut myself off before I could make that mistake.
Satori continued up the stairs, seemingly unfazed by the almost mistake I made. I sat down at the table as he reached the top of the stairs and disappeared.
I felt my chest begin to hurt as the pain from last night returned, growing, and expanding.
Good job almost fucking that one up. Man, you're just a fuck up at every turn, huh?
I sat down after scrubbing the pan, my mind slowly becoming a storm, my heart a hurricane. I could feel how wide my eyes were, the bowling ball sitting in my throat, and yet, I simply stared off into space, my limbs refusing to work.
I heard Satori start coming down the stairs, which finally kicked my mind back into gear and out of the depressed stupor.
"Aaaaah! Nice and minty fresh!" He said, sighing in pleasure. He had that cute, infectious smile on his face. And I was infected, feeling myself beginning to smile as well.
Like clockwork, the storms are gone. Always.
We ravaged our food in relative silence, until I noticed Satori staring at me.
I swallowed the rest of the egg I was chewing and addressed him.
"Like what you see? A girl ravaging an unfertilized offspring?" I said, wiggling my eyebrows.
I saw a blush creep on his face as he looked away.
"N-No! I-I mean, yes! No wait, I mean-!" Satori stuttered out.
"Haha, I'm joking Satori!" I said, a wide smile on my face now.
He went silent, his face still one of embarrassment, but a hint of…something else. But I blinked, and it was gone, replaced with that adorable pout.
I finished off the rest of my dish and placed it in the sink as Satori did the same to his.
"Alright, let's get going Satori. It's almost… 7:30." I said as I reached into my bag for my set of keys.
"Okay!" He said, sounding brighter.
Guess he's excited about going back. It is nice to see the Literature Club again after a couple weeks off.
I walked outside into the crisp early January morning, my breath clearly visible in the air. The sun was barely peaking over the horizon down the street from my house, the opposite direction of the school. The clouds in the sky were a nice mix of purple and pink. It was beautiful.
Then I looked to Satori, who was also appreciating the amazing view of the sunrise. His nose was a little red from the cold air, his breath visible in the air, just like me. His hair was a bit more tangled than mine, but still looked perfect.
But he was perfect.
