Ben's pov
Two year time skip
Ben is now 9. 7 years to Duel academy
"Hello Ben." Greeted Mr. Muto as I walked into Kame Games. " Did you register for the Youth Regional championship yet ?
" Yeah" I respond. " I registered almost as soon as it was announced."
" Well I'll be rooting for you." Solomon began, " While you haven't lost yet this tournament plays with actual holograms unlike all the other tournaments you've played. It's quite a different experience if you're not prepared."
Well he wasn't wrong I'd won several of the local junior tournaments and hadn't lost a single Kame shop tournament I'd attended. But neither of us had ever dueled with holograms yet because we were apparently too young.
" Yeah hopefully I do ok for my first time." I reply as I pull out my homework to work on while I wait for the tournament to start.
{ " Need any help with that?" } Riley asked.
{ " Not right now but probably later." } I said as I thought about the last two years while doing my homework.
The last two years had been relatively boring, school was easy enough with Riley to feed me any answers I required in areas he was good at so I only needed to learn the stuff he wasn't as knowledgeable in. Duels against the average duelist were rather meaningless given that we always won but required to keep our skills sharp.Though to tell the truth the most interesting thing was learning more about Riley now that he could take control of our body. Riley didn't really give out much information on himself which made it incredibly hard to learn about him plus the fact that he was considerably better at concealing his emotions than I was made learning about him through talking difficult. However his preferences could be determined through watching him long enough for example while he would never say it, he greatly enjoyed fighting and shooting video games. He hated math but was very good at it which often gave the impression he liked it.
" Alright everyone." Solomon's voice drew me from my thoughts and I found myself looking up to see Joey Wheeler standing next to him and a small crowd surrounding them. " Today will be a special day since there are only seven of you. Joey has agreed to duel all of you before he leaves. "
" Joey Wheeler that guys ranked first in the pro league" One of the other participants said. With many beginning to echo his words. Riley however was practically jumping up and down unable to contain his excitement and his disappointment at not getting to Duel Joey himself.
Joey took a seat at the table as Solomon announced the order we'd face him. Apparently it had been decided by pulling our names out of a hat. The first duel started and although Joey's opponent was trying his best, he couldn't quite do anything in the face of the pro player.
"Alligator sword attack directly." Joey said ending the duel. What followed was a bunch of similar duels.
"Flame Swordsman direct attack."
" Go Panthor Warrior end this duel."
" Time roulette. Now Thousand dragon attacks."
" Jinzo attacks. Psycho shocker."
" Swordsman of Lanstar direct attack."
And suddenly it was my turn to duel Joey. Nerves were quickly getting the best of me so much so that my hand was trembling. Joey was a legitimate opponent it would be better to have our best foot forward and while I was competent it wouldn't be enough to do better than the others.
{ " Switch places with me."} I quickly tell Riley. {" I'm too nervous to duel him properly unlike you who is practically vibrating with excitement. If we lose I'd rather it be because you were overenthusiastic rather than me being too nervous to properly play, plus you're the better player between the two of us." }
{ " Are you sure?" } He asked tentatively reaching to take control if I stepped back. { "It's your day and turn I can't imagine I'll be able to beat him right now either, considering his luck and the fact that our deck set up isn't optimal." }
{ "Consider this one of the special circumstances we talked about." } I said.
With a quick mental shove I force him into the metaphorical driver's seat. The pleasant feeling of weightlessness began to set in even as Riley grimaced in pain.
Riley sat down in the chair across from Joey as both of them introduced themselves as they shuffled each other's deck.
{" Good luck Riley. "}
So yeah Joey's here and is the number 1 pro duelist. I'm sure some one will be like "but isn't The D supposed to be number 1 for like 10 years and be undefeated? "
Well yes but while I'm largely ignoring Dark Side of Dimensions ( except for the card pool) in that movie Joey states that he plans on becoming a Pro Duelist. So Pro duelist Joey Wheeler has grown up and is successful. In fact since Gx didn't say anything about him or anyone else from the original anime I've written out what I think some of them will be doing and will slowly drop them in.
With that in mind here is an updated Top 3 of the Pro league at this time:
1- Joey Wheeler
2-Koyo Hibiki
3- The D
Next chapter will be the actual duel where Ben/Riley's deck will get a chance to actually use some of those cards they've acquired. And we'll see a powered up Joey who may have some surprises in store for. Riley.
