Author's Note: The new trailer for the live action was released recently. I have to say, I'm cautiously optimistic. It looks great!

RonaldM40196867: Korra is getting a new film, apparently. When an Avatar becomes fully realised, there tends to be a bit less you can really do with them because they're so overpowered, so you either have to come up with even more powerful threats or problems they can't punch their way out of. For that reason I'm not sure there's anywhere to go in a new series, but new standalone stories, sure!

Bolin
Juicy skimmed low over the water as the Bison approached air temple island from the seaward side, having swung out over the ocean on his final approach to Republic City. This was done for a very good reason; on his back rode three outright fugitives from the United Republic's justice, and two more who didn't expect to be in the country's good graces either. But even so they returned, because they had a job to do.
Toph was there too, but she had absolutely nothing to worry about from the Republic's legal system, and was consequently having a nap.
"Ah, there's no place like home!" Varrick exclaimed, seeing the skyline. "I haven't seen this place since-"
"You carried out several false flag attacks here and then escaped from prison?" Lin asked accusingly.
Varrick just grinned at her.
"Of course," he said smoothly. "I haven't always behaved myself, I'll give you that. But business is business."
"Remind me why I shouldn't just throw you into the sea?" Lin snarled. Varrick recoiled for a moment, and then raised his arms placatingly.
"Hey, hey! I want to see Kuvira defeated as much as you," he said. "She'll accidentally destroy the world with a perversion of my work! I know how to stop it! And I'm definitely not telling you until we're back on solid ground."
He paused.
"Oh, and she sent me to a desert prison camp," he added, almost as an afterthought.
"Understatement of the year," Bolin replied. He was dressed in sandbender robes, with a headscarf and goggles ready to obscure his identity when they landed. He knew his welcome might not be entirely friendly, so he was going to pretend to be a sandbender until the coast was clear. Beside him, Varrick and Zhu Li had similar ideas, and as Juicy began to gain altitude for their final approach they pulled the fabric over their heads. Someone nudged Toph, who stirred groggily.
Before them, Yue Bay stretched away towards Republic City in the distance, but it was a lot more crowded now; many large warships were anchored there, flying red flags which fluttered in the breeze. Bolin only got a look at them for a moment before Opal flicked the reins again and the sky-bison descended into a courtyard, startling a pair of air acolytes who scurried away. There was a thump as Juicy touched down.
Opal jumped off the Bison and looked around. Nobody appeared to have noticed them yet.
There was a moment of tranquility, and Bolin soaked it up. He was home again. And, at least for the moment, free. His brother was somewhere in the city, and his friends, at least he thought they were. He was looking forward to seeing them again.
A nervous pair of eyes appeared round a corner, observing them cautiously. Their owner caught sight of Opal and the eyes widened. Bolin waved, and then they vanished.
"They definitely know we're here now," Varrick noted.
"Where are we?" Toph asked, before jumping down. As soon as her feet touched the ground, her eyes widened and she nodded.
"Never mind, I know."
"Lin?" A new voice rang out as a familiar woman in blue rushed into the courtyard. She was stowing water back into her pouch even as she took in the sight before her. "Suyin? Opal? Toph? What are you doing here?"
Lin stepped forward. "Hello Kya," she nodded. "I suppose it's been a while." It was obvious that she didn't really know how to handle herself in this situation now that she found herself in it.
At that Kya rushed forwards and swatted Lin on the arm.
"What were you thinking?" She demanded. "Rushing off like that, sacrificing yourself? You didn't need to do that!"
"Kya, she's my sister, what was I supposed to do?" Lin demanded.
"Yeah, obviously, it's not the fact you went," Kya amended. "It's the fact you stayed! You gave yourself up to that woman! Did she do anything to you?"
Lin suddenly looked very uncomfortable.
"I... don't want to talk about it," she said.
"Absolutely fair enough," Kya nodded. She rounded on Opal.
"And what were you thinking?" She continued. "Breaking a prisoner out of Republic City jail to go off on your own like that! And take that ridiculous disguise off Bolin, I know it's you."
Bolin pouted as he pulled the mask off.
"What gave it away?" He complained.
"You still have the uniform on," Kya replied shortly before turning back to Opal.
"What you did was insanely dangerous!"
"I know!" Opal pointed out. "But someone had to do it!"
"Yes," Kya seemed to calm down a bit. "Someone did. Well I'm glad you're back anyway. Hi Suyin!"
"Are you not angry at her?" A muffled voice came from under Varrick's headscarf.
"Why would I be? She was only defending herself," Kya replied. Then she paused.
"Hold on, who are you anyway?" She took a step closer. "Do I know you? I think I've heard your voice somewhere before."
Varrick took a step backwards. "No?"
"You don't sound sure," Kya noted.
Lin sighed.
"Take the headscarf off. Or I'll just tell her."
There was a long pause, and then...
"No."
"Do It," Lin hissed. Varrick yelped and rushed to do as she said.
As his face was revealed, Kya stepped backwards and reached for her water skin.
"You!" She demanded. "What are you doing with him?"
"Hi, I'm on your side now!" Varrick told her with forced joviality.
"Oh no you're not!" Kya replied. "You're a war profiteer and a collaborator!"
"What, with Kuvira?" Varrick retorted. "I helped your friends break out of her prison camp!"
"That's true, he did," Opal added quietly.
"And I have information you might need!" Varrick added. "She is coming with a weapon, an enormously powerful weapon that she bastardised my research to make! I can tell you how to destroy it."
Kya grunted, clearly unimpressed.
"I don't believe you," she said. "But it's not me you have to convince. I wonder what Raiko will make of you. You did send kidnappers after him, after all!"
"Not to actually kidnap him!" Varrick insisted. "I wanted them to lose, and Bolin did that. Quite a show, by the way."
That last comment was directed at Bolin, who shuffled uncomfortably. It had been pretty awesome, he had to admit, right up until the moment the lead goon had implicated Varrick.
"That's not important!" Kya raised her voice slightly. "But you're going to see him. I think all of you are," she addressed the group more generally now, "You've missed quite a lot. The world is coming to Republic City, some as friends, some... not."
She looked straight at Varrick as she said this, who just rolled his eyes.
"Who's here?" Suyin asked.
"Several members of the Fire Nation Royal Family, including Zuko. Turns out the Firelord's daughter has a thing for your brother. They've brought battleships, which is nice. The Southern Water Tribe refused to help, but Avatar Korra did bring two more of Aang's companions back. Oh, and of course Kuvira will be here any time now."
"Suki and Katara are here?" Toph suddenly spoke up.
"They are," Kya confirmed. "Apparently they've gone to the radio station to make a speech or something. Tenzin's there too."
Bolin thought he saw something change in Toph's demeanour, something very subtle but it was nonetheless there. Bolin turned to Kya, who was studying him.
"You should see Raiko too," she decided.
"Why?" Bolin asked. "I can't fight Kuvira from prison."
"With any luck," Kya shrugged, "You won't have to."
