Seviathan narrowed his eyes as he looked at the group chat on his phone, all of his so-called friends were too busy to hang out with him, leaving the Prince alone by himself.
Well, calling them friends was pushing it. He hadn't had acutally friends in centuries. Hard to do that with a tarnished reputation thanks to a certain someone.
No, these people were more like aquantinces that he picked up over time. To say Seviathan liked them was a massive stretch, if anything, he barely tolerated them, espiecally since some of them were the lowly 'Sinners' he despised, but company was company and he took what he could get. It wasn't like they interacted much outside of talking at the clubs and getting drinks.
Alas, those fools had their own struggles, their own lives to contend to. It didn't hurt, though it was annoying he couldn't kill time even if he didn't acutally care much for the fool's existences.
Desperate for attention, Seviathan scrolled through his contacts in hopes of finding someone to talk to.
Outside of his small group of aquantinces Seviathan didn't really have that many people to interact with unless you counted the maids and he wasn't particulary close with them either.
So after some consideration, he reluctantly decided to tap on his father's contact to see if he could form a worthwhile conversation.
Seviathan: Hey Frederick, it's me, Seviathan.
It took at least a good five minutes for his father to reply and by then, Seviathan had debated just clicking off until Frederick finally responded.
Frederick: What do you want, Seviathan?
Seviathan: I just wanted to talk to you. What took you so long to pick up?
Frederick: You know I'm a busy man, at your age I think you'd be aware that I have responsibilities to carry out. This better be important.
Seviathan: I just wanted to ask if you could spend some time with me. My friends aren't available and I don't know where Helsa is. Probably having an orgy with ten guys while being drunk off her ass again for the fifth time this week at a party.
Frederick: Spend time together? Since when have you cared for that? Aren't you a little old to care for such sentimental things? You are a grown adult aren't you? You should be able to care for yourself.
Seviathan: That's not the point. I just wanted to know if we could spend some time when you and Bethesda come back and-
Frederick: No. I'm busy and I don't have time for childish antics.
Seviathan: But I just wanted to spend time with yo-
Frederick: What are you, five? Seviathan , Seviathan , you're old enough to take care of yourself. I have responsibilities of my own to care for and I don't need to be distracted by this 'quality time' that you're trying to have with me. You can go ask the maids to do those sort of antics but I'm far too busy for such nonsense. Least you could do is not make my life harder than it already was, Seviathan, you've caused a lot of problems thanks to your breakup with Charlie and you've caused me centuries worth of struggle trying to fix our reputation. Do me and Bethesda a favor and leave us alone. Your presence isn't needed and we'd prefer if you don't contact us. Goodbye.
Seviathan flinched as the next thing he knew, Frederick had blocked him. The Prince growled,"Did he just...Of course he did. Barely even spoke to him and he can't even talk to me over text because I 'inconvenience' him with my presence. What a dick! How dare he treat me like I'm a nuisance!"
Seviathan 's mind began to race for a solution to his loneliness and boredom.
He was currently stuck, his friends weren't there, his parents were indifferent to his presence and whenever he did try and interact with them, they became annoyed and brushed him off as a result.
The Prince felt a tinge of pain from this act. It was as if Fredrick outright admitted he wasn't considered important because of the controversy that happened several centuries ago.
"Damn him...Still holding it against me because I didn't marry Charlie as planned. Course he's still mad about that…" He groaned, it was the one thing he wished could be forcibly eradicated from everyone's minds because their lives had taken a downward plunge when that happened and he never heard the end of it. It had been a plague that hovered over him for centuries on end and whilst the tension died down as time passed, they never truly let him forget.
Seviathan's eyes lowered, the amount of disrespect towards him made his blood boil with rage. The nerve of that man! How dare he insult him like he was an utter waste of space! Who did he think he was?
'Father or not...nobody treats me like that! I'll show him! If he thinks I'm that much of a nuisance then I'll remove myself from the equation since he clearly prefers me not being here anyway…'
Fueled by resentment and blind fury, Seviathan stormed off into his room and began packing up his things. As he was stuffing things in his suitcase, the rustling must've caught Helsa's attention as she peered her head through the doorway.
"Seviathan , what the fuck are you doing?"
"Packing."
"Why? Are you going on a trip somewhere? I don't remember you making any plans to go anywhere…"
"Just decided to leave." He replied, not giving her any details.
Helsa narrowed her eyes,"Leave where exactly?"
"None of your business. It's not important anyway."
"Well it is to me. I'd like some specific information, not vague bullshit. Now tell me what the fuck you think you're doing before I force it out of you."
Seviathan scoffed,"I'm just...leaving…"
"Leaving where, Seviathan? Quit acting so secretively. You leaving home shouldn't be considered a big deal. After all, you're coming back aren't you?"
"No. I'm not."
Helsa flinched,"What? What do you mean you're not coming back?"
"You heard me. I'm NOT coming back, Helsa. I'm leaving forever," Seviathan said as he finished packing, preparing to leave when Helsa grabbed his arm,"What are you doing? Let go, Helsa."
"You can't just leave, Seviathan! What about our family-"
"What family?" He asked,"The only thing we share in this family is blood, Helsa. There is no bond, no kinship between any of us. We're hardly a family at all, just a bunch of strangers living under the same roof. In this household, water is thicker than blood... "
"That's not true-"
"Stop denying the truth dammit!" He grabbed her by the collar," Look around you, Helsa! What family are you speaking of? Our parents who are mostly absent from our lives apart from special events? Or us, two twins who hardly communicate with each other? Is that what you call a 'family'?"
"I...I don't know."
"Of course you don't know, it's hard to have an idea of what a family is when the 'family' you have is dysfunctional at best. It doesn't matter if I leave, nothing will change anyway. It's for the best that I'm not here since I won't be an 'inconvenience' for Fredrick and Bethesda…"
"But you can't leave…"
"Why not? Give me one valid reason why I shouldn't leave…"
"Because Fredrick and Bethesda will-"
"Will what?" He inquired,"Search for me? Puh-lease, that'd require them to stop caring about their damn duties first. Let's be legit here, those two won't give a damn if I leave. They consider my presence an inconvenience anyway, I doubt me not being here would cause them any stress. Hell, they might think 'good riddance' if they don't have an extra mouth to feed."
"You can't be sure-"
"Yes I can. Frederick literally called me an inconvenience on a text message. He makes it really clear how he feels about me and I doubt Bethesda's opinion differs too much from his. I don't get why you even care, shouldn't you be happy that maybe those two will pay attention to you for a few more seconds if I leave?"
"I wouldn't care but…" She made a face as she struggled to find a way to say it, her throat becoming dry when she found the words she wanted to say.
He rolled his eyes,"But what? If you're going to try stopping me at least have your sentences figured out."
"But if you leave, who's gonna talk to me?"
"Is that it? Seriously, Helsa? Don't you have friends?" He asked. Unlike him, she had people who would talk with her.
"They're busy. And honestly...they can get rather annoying," She admits, gritting her teeth,"I'm the only one with a functioning brain, the rest are dumb bimbo's who couldn't find their way out of a paper bag…"
"So you want me to stay here because you don't want to hang out with your dumbass friends?"
"What? Do you realize that if I don't boss them around they're practically brainless. Just about everyone I hang out with is dumb as a brick. You're particularly the only person that I can stand by the time I get home since you actually possess a brain cell, as small as it is."
"Are you implying I'm stupid?"
"Didn't say it but yes…"
"Damn, you're REALLY making me want to stay in this family, Hesla.." He grumbled sarcastically.
"What? Were you expecting a warm welcome? Sorry but sentimental emotions make me ill and I can't pretend to sound sugary sweet like Charlie…." She remarked,"I'm just saying that you can't just leave like that, I still have use for you and I don't need the one thing keeping me from going insane dropping out on me."
"If you really care so much why don't you come with me?"
It was a rhetorical question but it did catch Helsa off guard.
"Wait...you're serious?"
"Well no...but if you want to, I'd certainly prefer you coming with me over you trying to keep me in this damn household. It's not like we'll lose out on anything valuable if we leave. Doubt those two will notice the difference, might even be glad we're gone."
"Are you sure about that, Seviathan? They might notice…"
"And what? They're not going to do anything about it. Our so called 'parents' can't even spend time with us for five minutes, what makes you think they'll search for us? After all, if they truly cared, don't you think they would've taken care of themselves instead of having the servants do it 24/7? Do you recall anytime those two actually spent time with us? Because as far as I can remember, I can't recall them doing jack shit."
Helsa searched her memory but ultimately couldn't remember anything about her parents in particular. "Neither can I…"
"Exactly. They don't care about us, Helsa. The only reason they tolerate us is because we are their heirs and even then, they do a shoddy job at parenting since they can't even pretend to care. Do you remember back when we were in grade school and there were 'parent' events to attend after?"
Helsa recalled those years, back when she and Seviathan were young, those 'parent-teacher' events were more frequent.
Of course their parents were too 'busy' to actually attend so Seviathan and Helsa opted to just ask the maids to fill in as substitutes. You could imagine it was very awkward when even fucking Charlie Magne had her two parents there while you and your brother had these random servants filling in for your parents.
"Yeah I do…" She mumbled,"And the school plays...the chorus...dance...cheerleading...every time there was an event for parents to attend, I had to ask the maids to be there since they said they couldn't come…"
"Same thing happened for football and soccer," Seviathan said,"It was so goddamn embarrassing. And that play was probably the worst part since we were doing Cinderella. Charlie was of course the Princess and I was the Prince. After we kissed and damn play ended, she asked me where my parents were because lo and behold, she was apparently looking to see them at the play and I had to fucking lie and say they were sick so I didn't look pathetic."
Helsa remembered that day, she was one of the stepsisters(she couldn't remember which) and she played her part well mainly because she saw it as a way to take her frustration out on Charlie without getting in trouble for it.
At the end of the play they had to drive back home with the maids early since she got pissed off when she saw Lucifer and Lilith congratulating Charlie for her performance, bathing her in praise and compliments by literally everyone around her. It took Seviathan dragging her to the car so she didn't try fighting the Princess while they were still in their fucking costumes.
The only school event Fredrick and Bethesda actually attended was their graduation.
Even then, it was hardly a heartwarming event as they seemed apathetic to it at best and expressed little interest in being there.
Once they got their papers, Frederick and Bethesda merely nodded in acknowledgement before moving on while Charlie was rewarded with a giant hug and praise that could be heard for miles from her parents.
Once they were done with school, the only time they interacted with their parents was for formal events. Even then, it was hard to more or less put on an act where everything was hunky dory for the cams but once they went away...it was right back to being treated with indifference again.
Only now did Helsa realize how little their parents were in their lives. Most of Helsa's memories were of her and her friends and sometimes the maids/private helpers tutoring her. She couldn't recall anything about either of her parents simply because...what was there to take from them exactly? Nothing of value to be honest.
"Helsa…" Seviathan asked,"Do you think they care about us?"
Before she could control herself, she instinctively said,"No…"
"See? Even you are aware of the truth, Helsa. There's no need for us to put up with their attitudes, I say we leave. There's no need for us to stay here.." Seviathan said,"Come on, Helsa. If you truly care for your freedom then you should leave with me. We don't have to tolerate them anymore, it's time we take a stand. Do you want to come or not?"
"Yes."
"Then pack your bags. We're hitting the road, Helsa…"
"Are you sure about this? We've never been out in Hell on our own. You know how dangerous it is."
"And? Do you really think anyone can hurt us? Even without our parents, we are more than capable of manhandling any demon who dares try and mess with us. Why? Are you scared?"
She rolled her eyes,"Of course I'm not, I just know you'd get yourself killed out there on your own and I didn't want your idiocy killing you."
"I'm far from stupid, Helsa," He said,"I don't see why you are worried, nobody is going to hurt us. Anyone who tries won't see the light of day ever again. Now pack up, we're going on foot…"
"On foot? You expect us to just walk? What are we, peasents? Don't we have a car?"
"Our parents have the keys and I sure as hell am not asking permission from them. Since we're going to be wandering around aimlessly it's best that we walk on foot with all our things on our back…"
"Fine…"
Helsa went into her room and packed everything she thought she could need, like personal luggage and money. Since their parents were loaded, she and Seviathan would have enough money in their private accounts and on hand to handle themselves long-term on the streets.
When she got all her things, she put her bag over her shoulder and met Seviathan back in his room.
"Alright, I got everything. Now are we going or what?"
"Course, but first…" Seviathan suddenly opened the door to his bedroom before jumping out. Helsa flinched as she rushed over and saw Seviathan had climbed down the rooftops with parkour without any issue.
"Seviathan , what the fuck? You do realize we have a door right? We could've just walked outside…"
"Yeah, but this is cooler…" He said,"Now come on! It's faster this way!"
"Ugh...fine…" Helsa reluctantly got outside and slowly climbed down carefully as to avoid getting her clothes stuck on something, meeting Seviathan on the way down."Stupid parkour…"
"Quit complaining, it's hardly anything we're not used to. Now let's go. It's time we take our leave…"
"Fine. Just don't get me fucking killed doing this…"
"Don't be dramatic, Helsa. Neither of us are going to die…Come on, there's no future for us here in this mansion any longer..."
Helsa sighed as she looked behind her for a moment before turning back to follow her twin, a tinge of guilt growing in her stomach.'Hope this is worth it...'
Husk grumbled as he walked down the streets of Hell after he left a bar.
He got looks sent from other demons, all of them flinching up at his presence. He shrugged them off, more annoyed by the constant eyes gazing through him, as if they were trying to examine him for signs of weakness.
Course he wasn't very intimating, being a cat with wings he did look rather silly but he did have large claws on him that usually deterred people. That and the fact people thought he was(ugh) 'friends' with Alastor made them weary of him in general.
Today was a dull day for him. The only people he had for company were the cheap drinks around at the bar and some random douche-bags who somehow weren't scared off by his mere presence alone.
By now, Husk was too tired emotionally and physically to bother making friends.
He didn't trust any of the demons in Hell and was weary at best to others who approached them assuming they weren't getting in his face. Being surrounded by overly sadistic assholes made him not appreciate being friends with them since he knew they'd likely stab him in the back for kicks and giggles.
As he headed toward his apartment, Husk's paw reached out for another drink through the fridge only to curse when he saw no bottles inside."Fuck..already drank them all? Dammit, things never last down here.."
Husk groaned before falling back on the couch, eyes drifting towards the window.
He thought about the world, he thought about how awful Hell was and how he wished he was anywhere but there. He knew he didn't' belong among the angels...but he sure as hell didn't think he belonged around the ruthless monsters that Hell had to offer.
"Where did it all go wrong? Oh wait...I remember, started when I was fucking born…" He muttered, wishing that he could just reach out for a drink to take his mind off the crushing reality that this was his afterlife until an Exterminator decided to put him out of his misery.
He knew it was impossible...but he just wanted to be in fucking peace for once. He thought originally when he died, he'd just stop existing but of course, Hell wouldn't grant him that and thought punishing him was a better idea for his soul and that his only escape was at the end of an Exterminator's spear.
To say his life was bleak was an understatement and all Husk wanted was an escape, a break in the very least that got him away from all the awful people that he despised being around with all of his cold and dead heart.
He then recalled an old memory that passed by, it happened centuries ago back when he was in his prime. Back when he wasn't as cynical and depressed with his awful life. His girlfriend at the time always liked being on trains and sometimes made him play a game where they spotted buildings to see if they could identify them.
Husk couldn't care less what he saw while on the train but he figured whatever made her happy was alright with their relationship didn't last, after the war he found out that she got with another guy and dumped him so he resorted to drinking excessively to cope with the losses in his life.
Without much to live for, Husk wondered what he was going to do. Was this truly it? Living in a mundane apartment, playing cards to get some extra money on the side and drinking booze until he ached? Because if this was life...he wanted little do with it…
'Maybe I should do something...something that'll at least keep me from tossing myself out to the Exterminators. But where to go?'
There weren't many places Husk could stand being outside of a bar and his own. He hated being in public and unless he was drunk and playing cards, his tolerance for other people was rather low.
He tried thinking of something other than gambling but the other forms of entertainment weren't his style.
Amusement parks? Most in Pride were radically unsafe or expensive and he sure as hell wasn't taking a risk getting injured because some cheapskate didn't want to pay for the ride to be inspected properly.
That and Husk wasn't much of a roller-coaster person, he preferred being off the ride than being on it, mainly because he didn't like the idea of banging his head several times against the seat while going down a 60ft drop at 50 miles per hour.
Partying? With what friends?
Bowling? His claws would get stuck in the holes and he'd end up breaking them. Game Shows? Not interested in getting humiliated for laughs on live TV by some asshat with money.
There were so few things Husk could think of that were viable to only thing he could think of was taking a walk and going out on a cheap ride on a train, not to anywhere in particular, just far enough to take his mind off the bullshit going around.
Train tickets weren't overly expensive compared to the other forms of transportation and Husk figured he'd be able to get a semi-decent one and then head back to clear his head.
'I"ll get it later…' He thought as he turned over in his head bed and buried himself in his pillow to take the pain away...
Alastor and Niffty walked down a local park and sat down. Things were rather quiet(for once) and they were just taking in the scenery. Niffty reached for a rose from the bush and carefully handed it to Al,"You wanna hold it?"
"I'd love to but….you know.." Al said.
"What do you mean, Al? It's just a flower, you can hold it."
"Alright if you insist…" Al then grabbed the flower and plucked a petal. Moments later, the rose shriveled up and died in his hand.
"Uhhh…."
"Tried to warn you, Niffty. I have this...tendency of killing flowers every time I touch them. Believe me, I've tried touching them and the result is still the same…"
"Oh...I'm sorry, Al. I just thought giving you the flower would cheer you up."
"Probably would've if I could actually hold it.." Al admitted,"Don't worry, it's not your fault. It's been like this since I fell down here, don't know why but it seems that every plant I touch shrivels up and perishes shortly afterwards."
Niffty blinked, it only now occurred to her that this was the reason Al never had plants in his home. Al had everything but modern technology and plants at his Tower and he always seemed against it when people gave him flowers for decoration.
"Hey Al?"
"Yes?"
"Are you alright? You've been rather quiet since we got out here. You've barely spoken today…"
"It's nothing. I'm just rather bored. Nothing new has happened in decades and I've lost track of time a while ago. It feels like we're just repeating a cycle and nothing ever changes."
"Feeling more lonely than usual? I understand, Al. I'm lonely too…"
"You could say that. Rosie is always busy and the amount of friends I have is very small. It's so small that I don't even think I can use all five digits on my hand for an accurate number of how few people I have in my life."
"I know how you're feeling. I miss having a lot of friends. Since I got down here, people refuse to befriend me in person because of how I'm with you all the time.
"It's not like I don't understand why, they fear me and rightfully so but I wish I could just stalk someone without them running in the opposite direction. It's rare to encounter someone who isn't scared of me, let alone someone who wants to be in my presence afterwards. Husker can put up with me but he doesn't seem too fond of me."
"Husk isn't really a close person from what I can tell, I just don't think he likes being friends with people. I doubt you're the only one he treats like that so don't take it too personally."
"Still, I wish I could actually have more than two to three friends down here. Especially since that damned TV is just basking in popularity in fame while my media gets thrown into irrelevance…" He grumbled,"Vox always has fans who follow him like brain-dead slaves, it's unbelievable how he has them wrapped around his finger. He could insult them right in front of their faces and they'd still cheer him on like he's their lord and savior. Cultish bastard has the masses bending over backwards for him and hanging off his every word…"
"Hey, no matter what Vox does, I still prefer you over him, Al…"
"That's good, at least someone cares…" Al grumbled,"Just wish I didn't have to see his face everywhere I go. Can't even walk past a clothing store without that pompous TV's face there."
"Ooh! How about we go on a subway? That'll take your mind off of Vox and everything!"
"Isn't that food?"
"Not that type of subway, Al. Where'd you even hear that? You don't even eat there."
"I prefer unprocessed meat so I wouldn't eat there," Al said,"I just heard someone talk about it and I do believe I walked by one a few times on my way around town…"
"Well the subway I'm talking about is sort of like a train, just underground and a bit modern. It won't take long but I'm sure we can travel on one far enough that Vox will be the last thing on your mind!"
"You sure?" He asked,"I'm not too big on going on any sort of transportation…"
"It'll be fine, Al. Trust me, we're gonna be fine. We'll do it later, OK?"
"OK. If you insist…"
Despite agreeing, Al couldn't help but feel a foreboding feeling in the bottom of his stomach that grew more and more by the passing second.
