Vox narrowed his eyes as he brought before the other entertainers. He recognized Fizz and the women that stopped him earlier but the rest were strangers to him. Mammon had a lot more performers than Vox anticipated and he doubted this was even everyone involved in the carnival as a whole…
Still, there was no sign of those he actually wanted to see.
'No sign of Helsa or Seviathan. No surprise there. They're sirens and while they can breathe on land, they can't walk on it like the rest of us. If I had to guess where Mammon's keeping them, it's a separate part of the circus just for them and them alone. Just need to find that place and move on from there…'
Vox was then snapped out of his trance by Mammon's booming voice who was all too pleased to announce his presence to the rest of the entertainers,"Everyone, look what I've got! We have a new star to add to our band of performers and a familiar one too! Say hello to Vincent, our new lighting elemental! He's going to be staying with us in the meantime so I suggest you all play nice while he's here and show him around. I trust you'll all be on your best behaviors around him, won't you?"
Everyone agreed and Mammon seemed pleased with their responses as he patted Vox on the shoulder before saying,"What are you waiting for, Vincent? There's no need to be shy, the others are always excited to have new friends. Go along now and make some friends. You'll be here for a while so it's best to get acquainted with everyone early on to avoid any bumps…"
Vox narrowed his distance before reluctantly approaching the group, watching out of the corner of his eyes as Mammon left the tent. The moment he was gone, Fizz's smile dropped as he said,"Ugh great…more auditions to the club. Just can't get any better. And I thought the sirens were bad enough, now we have to deal with you…Just great…"
"Did I do something to upset you, Fizz?" He asked flatly, already having a feeling what the jester was mad about. Fucker already seemed to have a bone to pick with him and Vox refused to have any of it.
"Oh you know, nothing much. Just a little peeved you made me crash in front of the audience like that…'' From the look in his eye, the clown sounded rather embarrassed over the mishap and was resisting the urge to get violent with Vox if his fidgeting fingers were any indication.
"You tried to turn me into a road-kill. Considering what you tried to pull on me you should consider yourself lucky. That was a mere slap on the wrist given your attempt on my life prior…"
"Like I care about your life, you ruined the act and embarrassed me in front of everyone. Do you have a single clue how hard I worked to get that stunt right just for you to come along and run it!? If only Mammon had chosen another contestant because it would've gone perfect otherwise…"
"You were planning on murdering an audience member for an act!?" Vox asked in disbelief.
"Well yeah? Gotta keep the audience entertained by any means necessary you know," He snickered before grinning at the disturbed look Vox was giving him,"What? Don't tell me you're shocked are you? Did you think everything in this circus was just fun and games? There is genuine danger in these acts and that's the thrill that keeps this place alive and we have to do what we can to preserve it, even if we have to…make examples of others to remind people of how real the entertainment is…"
Vox was flabbergasted, it was like someone had sucker-punched him in the face. The boldness to outright admit murder in your field of entertainment purely to remind the audience of how real this was shook him a little.
The nerve of this crazy bastard to admit such a thing with a twisted grin on his face that never seemed to end.
He wasn't one to admit to being fazed and if anything, Vox was one of the harder people shock but something about Fizz's demeanor and the way he spoke of it, it was beyond disturbing, his mannerisms were deliberate and it was like he was trying to intimidate him right off the bat. Some of his behavior was almost like a robot, his head turning in odd angles and not blinking for long periods of time. The worst part was that his grin refused to leave his face even when he was pissed off.
He wasn't certain why he was so creeped out by this, especially since his rival, Alastor, always smiled 24/7. The bastard never stopped smiling and while his smile could change, becoming either more lax or more tense depending on his mood, it always remained on his face. He honestly found Alastor's belief that 'frowning made you weaker' utter bullshit but at least with Al he knew it was more or less his gimmick.
Probably the only thing he had once the TV killed the Radio and became the more popular medium all over Hell. Vox's rise more or less overthrew Alastor's grip over technology as the Radio became obsolete once the TV took over. Al had always resented him for that, resented him for bringing Hell to a future era and taking away his popularity.
Vox recalled one time telling Al that if he wanted to become popular again that he should embrace modern technology so that he could build back influence, yet the fucker never listened. He was simply too stubborn and clung to the past desperately, fearing he'd lose the only thing he had. Vox found it pathetic that Al couldn't realize the time period he lived in had long since passed and while some parts of Hell did resemble the 1930's, they were few and far between.
It was pathetic…but at least he could understand the gimmick, viewing it as the one thing Al had to cling to in order to cope with the fact his medium of entertainment had become obsolete with recent times. A pathetic old man clinging to what he had left was a bit more understandable than a insane clown grinning madly at those who approached him for no reason.
With Fizz…his smile came off as more disturbing purely because there was no gimmick, no 'belief' that smiling made you stronger. If Fizz did somehow subscribe to a belief like Alastor did about smiling, Vox wouldn't have known it but from what he could see, Fizz was just smiling to unnerve those around him and make others fear his very presence.
The only thing Vox could think of Fizz's reason for smiling…was that it was a warning, a warning to not get close to his spot as Mammon's number one star. A warning that if they stepped over that line, he'd be sure to make them pay for it. Fizz thrived off of attention(a feeling Vox knew all too well himself) but Mammon's attention seemed to be the one he cared most for as well as profiting off of being his number one star…
And if anyone dared to take his position anyway from him…they would have hell to pay.
Not that Vox had any interest in being Mammon's number one star…but he knew that he still had to be wary of Fizz. No doubt he'd be keeping an eye on him while he was here, likely serving as Mammon's personal little spy-hound to ensure nobody was plotting against him.
Suddenly Fizz waved his hand in front of his face before 'playfully'(more like creepily) saying,"Yoo-hoo! Vincent, are you still with us or have the lights already gone off upstairs?"
Vox scowled before breaking away from his thoughts and returning to reality,"I'm still here, Fizz…"
"Oh good, I was beginning to get worried that Mammon's new toy had already stopped working. Would've been quite a shame to lose a new asset so quickly before we could even exploit it after all…"
"You cannot get rid of me that easily, clown…" He hissed,"I don't know what your problem with me is, but I'd appreciate it if you got out of my face and stopped pestering me…"
"Aw you're no fun," He pouted like some sort of child,"And to think we could've been friends. Oh well, I doubt you would've been a good playmate anyway…Just know this, Vincent…stay out of my way and don't mess with what is mine and we're good, got that?"
"Or else what?"
"Do you really wanna know?" When he received no response the clown's grin widened,"Exactly. Now do us both a favor and keep yourself in line because it'd be in your best interest to be on my and Mammon's good side. So long as you keep to your side of the land and out of mine, we are good. Because you don't want to get on my bad side so watch your back because I have my eye on you. I don't trust you and I won't let anyone ruin my life's work, got it?"
"Yeah, I understand your point Fizz. Stay out of the way and we are good, I get it…" He grumbled, already tired of Fizz beating him over the head with his threats. He already got the damn point by now, he don't need to have it hammered in repeatedly.
"Good. Good…." He muttered,"Glad we understand each other, Vincent…" The fucker then vanished just like that and Vox shivered at his eerie nature.
'Thank god he left…' He thought to himself, beyond relieved that Fizz had finally left him be.'Thought he'd never leave…'
"Don't worry," A gruff voice called out from behind,"You're not the only one uncomfortable by his presence."
"Gah!" Vox jumped before whipping around to see a middle-aged man in a suit behind him. He clenched his teeth before sending him a glare,"Hey! What's with the big idea scaring me like that? Are you trying to give me a heart attack or something?"
He rolled his eyes in response,"Of course not, I had no intention of scaring you back there."
"Could've done a better job…" Vox grumbled,"Seriously, what is the matter with you? Sneaking up behind me like that and just randomly asking a question out of nowhere? You're lucky I didn't accidentally hit you on instinct…"
"You wouldn't have gotten that far,"The man scoffed,"Trust me, I know enough about hand-to-hand combat to knock you flat on your ass…"
"Still trying to instill your fear tactics into me?"
"Not trying to instill fear, just being honest," He admitted,"Honestly, I never anticipated the TV Demon to be so easy to frighten. With how big Al propped you up I'd think it would've taken more than an unfair voice to shake you…"
Vox flinched before backing away, incredibly unnerved by the man saying his sinner name,"H-How do you know who I am? Are you some sort of stalker!?"
"Pfft, believe me if I was a stalker, I wouldn't waste my time on you, Vox. And for your information, the reason I know who you are is because the sirens told me about you earlier."
"Wait…you know where they are!?" He exclaimed,"That means you can lead me!"
Woah woah, there. Slow your roll, Vox. I'm the only one who has clearance to visit the two. Mammon's orders."
"Oh god, don't tell me you're loyal to Mammon are you?" He growled, his distrust of the man rising,"I've got enough problems with the clown, I don't need another one of Mammon's bootlickers sniffing around me…"
"Pfft, as if. I'm not his bootlicker. Being honest here, Vox, I like Mammon just about as much as you do. Just don't want to take any risks with his personal pet finding out I'm disobeying orders. Fizz has been on my ass lately and I'm not in the mood to deal with him again…"
He grit his teeth,"Is there ANY way I can get you to let me see them?" He was honestly getting desperate and he was going to do anything to see her again.
"Hmm…well now that you mention it… I could go for a beer…"
Vox narrowed his eyes, almost offended by the request,"If you could go for one so badly why don't you go get it yourself?"
"Don't you think I've tried that jackass? I'd love to get the booze myself but Mammon's putting me on a strict regimen. I'm not allowed to 'indulge' myself in booze unless I have Mammon's permission and if I try and get more booze myself I get declined."
"Are you on punishment or something? Is that why you're not allowed to get wine?"
"Ha, I wish. Fact of the matter is that I'm one of his new 'favorites' so to speak , just behind Fizz. The feeling ain't mutual but he's fond of me enough to allow me to have booze occasionally as a treat. Course he won't let me drink it whenever the hell I want and if I want more I have to wait until a certain amount of time passes before he lets me stock up again…"
"You sure this place isn't a prison? Because with the way you're acting it sure sounds like it…"
"It's as close as you can get to a prison without it actually being one. We may not have chains around our ankles keeping us bound here but Mammon knows we won't be able to survive on our own. He only gives us just enough money to keep us alive but not enough to actually indulge long-term. And I'm supposed to be one of the lucky ones, the rest of the others whose performances are 'average' barely get anything at all."
"So I take it that Mammon favors those who make the most money and gives them 'special treatment' while still depriving them of what they want?"
"Pretty much, the guy is a major asshole, nothing too surprising given he's the embodiment of Greed. Doesn't mean I don't despise him with all my being though. Fucker won't even let me drink without restricting me out of fear it'll 'affect my performance'. We both know that's bullshit, he just doesn't want me drunk since it'll affect his sales…"
"Hmph. Figured as much…So, if I get you that wine…will you let me see them?"
"I don't see why not. As long as you pull through your part of the bargain I'll follow through with mine. Say, do you have any money on you?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Well I spent mine on gambling so I was just checking if you had any on you before I sent you off…"
Vox gave him a look,"You spent it all on gambling? Seriously? There isn't a casino here, how'd you spend all your money?"
"What can I say? The carnival games are addicting."
"Uh-huh…"
"Hey, when you've been here as long as I have you start to lower your standards a bit if you want to keep yourself sane…"
"Yeah yeah whatever," Vox muttered,"I'll get your damn wine. And you better keep your end to the bargain old man because I don't do menial tasks like this for free. I'm not anyone's lackey so don't get too comfortable with this arrangement. I'm just doing this so I can get what I want…"
"I'm no stranger to arrangements like this, Vox. I know how this sort of thing works. Now run along, that is if you intend on upholding your end of the bargain. You don't have to if you don't want to but until I see some booze, the sirens are staying off limits…"
"Hmph…" Vox then turned his back before grumbling,'Drunkard bastard…how dare he make me do chores for him, like I'm some type of servant…Still, it could be much worse. Getting my hands on some beer shouldn't be too hard. It's just wine…How hard can it be?'
Vox stormed off in search of the winery.
He had only now just realized how huge Mammon's fucked up circus was as there were all types of 'games' and other shit that you'd see at a carnival. All the people managing them looked like underpaid suckers who likely don't possess any real talents but still served their use as extra hands for Mammon to keep around and assist guests.
He made his way past the games and (finally) located the winery, seeing a familiar face. It was the woman he had scared off at the front stand.
Only difference was that she was drunk off her ass and was on the verge of blacking out, her body slumped over the chair as she continued to drink what was left of the bottle…
Vox cringed at the smell coming off her. She smelled like she had way too many beers and the smell he got off of her was anything but pleasant. Being stripped of his Demon Form rendered him able to smell normally and he had only now just remembered the downsides of having an actual face was now being able to smell the less than pleasant things in life.
'Jesus Fucking Christ…she smells terrible…' He wrinkled his nose before taking a deep breath upon spotting a few untouched wine bottles,"Alright Vincent…this is super easy. Just grab the bottles and leave…Just don't think about the smell and it'll be over before you know it…'
He slowly made a move towards the bottles, not wanting to risk waking her up from her drunken state. He had enough experiences with intoxicated people to know they were easy to rile up and one wrong move could potentially cause an outburst if you weren't careful…
Needless to say, luck wasn't one his side today because Vox accidentally stepped on a glass bottle(she must've tossed one on the ground in her intoxicated state and he crushed it with his foot). While the glass didn't pierce his boot(thankfully), it did make a loud noise and the woman became startled upon hearing it.
'Shit!' He cursed,'Bad move, Vincent! Bad move!'
The woman groggily rose from her position and looked around. She looked like an utter mess and clearly had way too much to drink as she was visibly shaking and barely able to keep herself up on her two feet.
When the bitch locked eyes with him, Vox quickly tensed when she hiccuped and said,"Hic! H-Hey…what are you doing here? This..hic! Is a…restricted…area..ggnngh…" She was fumbling over her sentence and Vox knew she wasn't thinking straight. Z
Trying to deescalate the situation he calmly said,"L-Listen lady, I'm just trying to get some drinks for some guy…Don't mind me. I'm not here to cause any problems…Just lay your head back down and pretend I'm not here…"
She then narrowed her eyes at him before saying,"Wait a second…I…I recognize you…You're that guy who scared everyone off…What are you doing here? Here to ruin my day again!? Haven't you done enough damage!?" She sobbed.
"Lady…I'm sorry about earlier but can you just like…pretend I'm not here? I don't want to cause problems, I just need to take a few bottles and I'll be out of your hair…"
She snapped,"No! Those are mine. All those bottles I mine…I need them…"
"You don't look like you need any more drinks…" He grumbled,"I think you've had plenty. Time to let someone have some…"
Needless to say, Vox's attempt to get her to cut down wasn't taken well as she seemed to view this as a personal insult in her intoxicated mind. Next thing Vox knew, he had a drunk woman trying to knock him down.
Thankfully, Vox's reflexes kicked in and he tripped her with his foot, forcing her to face-plant on the ground face-first. He cringed at the sight of seeing her surrounded by broken glass and spilled beer before checking to see if she was alive…
'Yep…still breathing…just drunk…' He thought.
Normally he'd be mad if she tried to knock him down but her drunken nature made her attempt at 'charging' at him look pathetic and sloppy. It was hard not to pity her, she was probably just an underpaid worker who helped herself to the beer cabinet after a rough day(no thanks to him). She was just a 'normal' person(or as normal as you could get given everyone lived for centuries) with no powers, no special abilities to make her stand out from the crowd.
And she was stuck serving Mammon until the day she died. A hellish fate that Vox had no interest in sharing. Serving Mammon was a one-way ticket to a life of slavery and misery and Vox knew he had to get out of here fast before he became like them, hopeless and drinking the day away in order to get past the pain..
'I won't share that fate…I'll make sure of it…' His eyes then flickered to the side before looking past her, remembering why he was here in the first place…
Because there was one positive that came out of the situation…And that was the beer bottles.
He locked eyes with the spare beers she hadn't managed to consume yet and took what remained. It wasn't a lot but he figured it was enough to grant him access to Helsa and Seviathan's tanks for the time being…
"I better get out of here before she gets up…Hopefully she doesn't remember anything by the time she comes around…It's probably better that way…"
He then turned his back before returning and shouting out,"Hey old man! Where are you? I've got what you asked for, you gonna hold your end or what?"
"Quiet down," He hissed, coming up from behind Vox again and scolding him for his behavior,"You trying to make it obvious that something is going on down here?"
"Ugh, is it going to be a thing for you to sneak up on me all the time?" Vox growled,"Seriously, that's two times in a row. Knock it off old man…"
"Whatever. Did you at least get what I asked for? Because I hope you don't come here empty handed…"
Vox scoffed"Course I didn't come to her empty handed. I'm not the type to walk out on deals…" To prove his case Vox held up the beer bottles he got from the winery and handed them to Husk,"So…what do you think?"
He took a sip of the beer before admitting,"Meh…it's alright…"
"Alright? Just alright?"
"Had better…Guess Mammon doesn't keep the good stuff just lying around. Figures he feeds the public the cheap stuff. Whatever. Beer is still beer I guess. Regardless, since you held true to your part then I suppose it's only fair I hold true to mine."
"Thanks…er…What was your name again?"
Yeah he never caught his name…it looked a little silly but Vox hadn't had the time to ask until now..
"My name is Hunter…though my sinner name is Husk, "He informed me,"I personally don't give a damn what you call me. Either is fine…"
Vox shrugged,"I'll stick with Husk…it's easier to remember…"
"Fine by me…"
Husk led Vox to where Helsa and Seviathan were being kept. It was in a private part of the circus and Husk had made sure that nobody had been following them prior to entering…
"Is it really necessary to be like this?" Vox asked,"Nobody else is here…"
"Just being safe. I don't trust this place and Mammon could have eyes in places we don't know about. If you had lived the life I had, you'd understand that it's better to be safe than sorry in situations like these…"
"What do you mean?"
"Let's just say this isn't my first rodeo and leave it at that…"
Vox decided not to question what Husk meant, figuring that it would venture into private territory. He barely knew the guy and didn't want to push his boundaries, especially when he was so close to getting what he wanted.
When they finally arrived, Vox saw Helsa and Seviathan in a large tank together boredly sitting around. There didn't appear to be much to do inside their area and the twins looked bored out of their goddamn minds from the looks of things..
"Hey, you two, I've got a surprise for you…"
"What?" Seviathan asked, not bothering to look behind him,"Is it good food this time?"
"No. It's something else…or rather someone else…"
"Someone? Don't tell me it's Mammon…or god forbid our parents…"
"Don't worry, it's neither of them. You should recognize him, he says his name is Vincent but we best know him as Vox. Does that ring a bell?"
Helsa's head quickly rose upwards and turned to see Vox with Seviathan slowly following after. She put her hand on the glass and Vox put his on the glass in response. It was the closest the two could get to physically touching each other as this barrier kept them from running away…
'So close…yet so far away…' Vox thought bitterly before making the first move to speak,"Hey Helsa…it's me, Vox…Happy to see me?"
He was a bit uncertain what her response would be but when she smiled at him he took that as a sign of happiness.
"So am I…glad to see you again. I was worried when I lost track of you two when we got separated. I'm glad you two are OK…though I can tell that you've had better days…"
"That's putting it lightly," Seviathan hissed,"Mammon's keeping us in this stupid tank and we're not allowed to do anything. We're basically glorified prisoners that are sometimes let out to put on a show before being shoved back into our container. It sucks and still cannot believe our parents did this to us?"
"Your parents did this?" Vox asked in disbelief,"That..that can't be right…No parents would do this to their kid…"
"Well ours did, Vox," Seviathan replied,"And without a hint of hesitation too. All because Helsa and you were getting too comfortable together and they feared judgment if your relationship got out so they tossed us to Mammon's feet instead to sweep the issue under the rug."
"I…I'm sorry…I didn't think they'd do that to you. Parents aren't supposed to imprison their children, they're supposed to love them…"
"Don't worry, it's not like they loved us either…it's hardly a big deal," Seviathan huffed,"It's not like they cared for us anyway. This just proved how right I was about them..That they were nothing but selfish bastards…"
"I'm sorry Seviathan…"
"It's fine," He replied,"It's not your fault our parents are garbage. Still, I must ask, what are you here for, Vox? You can't tell me you're just here for a friendly visit are you?"
"No…That's not why I'm here…"
"Then why are you here?"
"To get you and Helsa out of here."
Both twins stared at him in disbelief before Seviathan said,"What? You came all the way here to the US? That's a joke right? You can't seriously be here to save us are you?"
"I'm dead serious, Seviathan…"
"Oh really? Well I have to say, Vox, I'm kind of impressed that you came this far for us but I don't understand the point. What do you get out of saving us again? Is there something you want? Or rather…someone you want?" He said, his gaze shifting towards Helsa,"Tell me, what do you get out of freeing us? There's got to be some sort of catch to this…"
"There is no catch, Seviathan. I do want it to free you two and I'm not doing it for my own benefit…"
"I doubt that…but even if that was the case, what do you intend to do? Mammon isn't going to let you take us and it's not like we'd get far anyway. Helsa and I don't have legs, we can't just walk away like you and Husk can…"
"There are other ways to get you out of here. I'm not sure what they are, but I'll figure something out…"
"Sure you will…" Seviathan grumbled,"Look, I get you want to save us but how are you even going to do that? You don't even have any clue where to start, let alone orchestrate a full-blown escape plan…"
"Not on my own…but maybe if we all work together we can figure something out…"
"Work together? Like…friends?" Seviathan asked, the word 'friends' sounded odd on his tongue, almost like he was cringing.
"Sort of…" He replied,"I get you don't really like the notion of getting attached to people. I understand the feeling, Seviathan and I'm certain everyone in this room has their grips with attachment but right now, it's probably best we put that aside if we ever wanna see the light of day. Because like it or not, Mammon has us right where he wants us. He knows how much power he has over us but that doesn't mean we can't get out of here."
"So how do you propose we get out of here then?"
"I don't know…but what I do know is that we all need to work together if we want to stand a chance at escaping this deranged carnival. But I can't do it alone. And I have the feeling all of you know that too…So…who's with me?"
There was a moment of silence before Helsa mouthed the words,"I am…"
Husk then followed afterwards,"So am I…"
Everyone then stared at Seviathan and he ultimately succumbed to the pressure after a few seconds of discomfort,"Alright…fine. I'll go along with this little plot. Not like I have much of a choice and on the near nonexistent chance this actually works I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about you…Still, we should probably bide our time. Best not to rush something like this, especially while Mammon's little bird is around. He could ruin everything if we're not careful…"
"Yeah, Fizz is going to be an issue," Husk admitted,"That bastard will do anything to uphold the status quo of this circus no matter how much blood is spilled. If he catches wind of this…it won't end well for any of us."
"Which is why he won't find out…" Vox growled,"Not if I have anything to say about it. I'll be damned again before I allow a literal clown to ruin my plans. He must not find out what we're going on, else he'll tattle to Mammon and ruin it for all of us…"
"So what do we do?"
"We need to find the ins and outs of this circus and find a way to destroy it once and for all. Because while we're all very different, I think I can attest that everyone here wants to see this place to be nothing but ash and cinder…"
They all nodded their heads.
"I thought as much. But if we're ever going to get there, we're gonna need a plan and we're gonna need to bide our time until we can enact our retribution upon Mammon and his injustices he's committed against us. For now however, it's in our best interest to feign loyalty to Mammon to keep Fizz and whoever else he has under his command off our backs."
They all seemed to understand this.
"Fair enough," Husk said,"Though you should probably head to your tent, Vox. You're not allowed to be here and we can't take any risks."
Vox shrugged,"Good point…But before I leave, I just want to say goodbye first…" He then looked at the twins before saying,"See you soon, Seviathan…you too, Helsa…I…I hope to see you again. I've really missed you and I'll do what I can to get you out of here. Understand?"
Helsa nodded before giving him a small smile, batting her eyelashes at him, his face heating up in response.
'Holy shit…she's so beautiful…' If only he could break through the glass and touch her. He wanted too badly and it hurt not being able to touch her.
"I…I'll be back for you later, Helsa…" He mumbled before retreating to his individual tent. It was a little small and fairly plain but he figured it would do for now. Wasn't like he was planning on getting too attached to it…
He laid down on the bed before rolling down his right sleeve, peering down at the tattoo that Mammon had inscribed into his skin. His soul and his very being belonged to Mammon and he was keeping it a secret from the others out of fear what their reaction would…what her reaction would be…
'I did it for her…though I doubt she'd understand…' He thought as he looked at his hand. The idea of telling her sent shivers down his spine purely because he was terrified what she would think of him.
Would she even be able to look him in the eyes anymore? Would she even smile at him knowing he had sold himself to Mammon for her? Would she care…or would she laugh at him and think he was a deluded fool?
He wasn't sure how she would feel but he knew Helsa would no doubt judge him for his decision. He was already judging himself for his foolishness and feared what would happen if the truth ever got out, feared how the others would perceive him.
Husk and Seviathan's criticisms he could deal with…but Helsa's…he wasn't sure his heart could handle her icy eyes piercing through him with judgment and contempt. It already pained him to imagine her looking at him like that and he couldn't bear to think of it happening in reality…he just couldn't.
Vox then remembered that smile Helsa gave him when she looked at him, he wasn't sure if there was something else in her eyes but it felt like just maybe she cared, that she was hoping he would come for her.
Maybe it was just his imagination but it helped him sleep at night imagining that she did care for him deep inside. Even if it was all a lie, he just wanted to think someone in this fucked up world loved him.
He then rolled up his sleeve before turning on his side. He wasn't sure how he was going to do this, how he was going to get them out of this. But he was sure going to try because what else could he do at that rate?
All he could do was try. And on the off-chance he did manage to get out of this, he was determined to hide the marking Mammon made on him at all costs. None of the, not Husk, not Seviathan, not even Helsa would ever know what he had done to enter this circus, the truth would shake their alliance and it was something that was better left unsaid...

Enigmus-288: I know. Yeah he kind of fucked up big-time. Like real big-time.
