Lilith sighed, the funeral plans for her daughter were almost complete. She had already handled the paperwork as lengthy as it was. The only thing she had to wait on was for them to complete the tombstone she personally commissioned in Charlotte's honor in order to sculpt a shrine for her daughter with the finest materials in Hell itself.
"How long do you think it'll take for it to be complete?" She asked the monumental mason over the phone.
"Give it a week, I'm having my finest design it with me and we pride ourselves for getting our work done as fast as possible, your majesty. Your daughter's tombstone will be ready up for show in a jiffy…
"That's wonderful to hear…" She said,"Thank you. I'll be sure to up your pay handsomely for this request. I know it's a lot but I truly do think that this is the least my daughter deserves. If I cannot care for her while she's alive, the least I can do for her is grant her the best funeral Hell can offer."
"Understood. We'll contact you when we're done…"
Lilith then hung up the phone, her eyes looking down somberly as she apathetically gazed at her paperwork. She had spent a good portion of her time catching up on all the work she and Lucifer had been neglecting and it was quite tiring since her husband wasn't doing anything to help, far too busy trying in vain to search for their daughter.
It was quite frustrating, her husband refused to do anything other than bury himself further into the rabbit hole of their daughter's disappearance. She could hardly understand why, it had been months and yet he still insisted on searching for her.
Normally she found her husband's stubbornness and pride endearing…but now it was just irritating. His mind was stuck in the past, fixating on what could've been and he refused to look toward the future and was intent on keeping the rest of them trapped in the past as well.
As she was sorting through the paperwork, she was interrupted by Lucifer barging into her quarters,"Lilith! What is the meaning of this!?"
"Meaning of what?" She asked in a flat and monotone voice, her lifeless stare cold enough that you could've mistaken her for a corpse in that moment,"What are you talking about, Lucifer?"
"This!" Lucifer showed a newspaper up to her face. Lilith narrowed her eyes and took the paper out of her husband's hands. Her eyes skimmed the paper's headline,
"Kingpin Sir Pentious appeals to Overlord Valentino in an attempt to gain s favor lots of territory as of late by stalking him online, hilarity ensuing…'' Lilith raised an eyebrow,"Umm…"
"Fuck, wrong one!" He exclaimed before flipping the page and putting on the headline that truly caught his attention,"Read THIS!"
Lilith read over the title inside of her mind,"Queen Lilith closes the investigation to her daughter's disappearance, pronouncing her daughter dead and allowing Hell's elevators to be opened back up for routine use."
She looked back up at her husband who had betrayal lingering with his snake-like eyes. She calmly asked,"Is something wrong with this, Lucifer?"
"You know what's wrong with this, Lilith! I cannot believe you're actually going through with this funeral! It's outrageous! You don't even have a body and yet you're declaring Charlotte a lost cause already?"
"What's the problem with it? I already told you that I believed this investigation was pointless and it's not you weren't aware I believed Charlotte was gone. Why are you so upset now?"
"Because you closed the investigation entirely without even asking how I felt!?" He snapped at her,"You told pretty much everyone, including those who serve under ME that they are no longer allowed to work on the case as it's already been 'resolved' despite us having not come to a proper conclusion. Don't you have anything to say for yourself?"
"There's nothing to say, Lucifer. It's quite obvious that Charlie is no longer with us. There's no point in continuing an investigation into a lost cause," She retorted flatly.
"You had no right to do that! I was still searching for her!"
"Oh give it a rest, Lucifer," She groaned,"She's gone. Nothing you say or do will change that. Especially since it was your fault she ran away in the first place…" Lilith bit her lip,"I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye…"
"Lilith I-"
"Don't bother, It won't change anything," She mumbled,"Besides, as much as it hurts, it's best we put this chapter of our life behind us. Charlie wouldn't want us to mourn over her like this…"
"Would you know what she would've wanted?" He growled.
"I know enough to know Charlie wouldn't have wanted us to wallow in our own sadness and barely function as living beings while neglecting our own duties, something that you have been doing ever since this entire thing started,"She hissed,"I've been doing all the work and picking up the slack for your decisions, Lucifer, and you know what? I'm sick of it. I'm sick of being the responsible one while you lock yourself away in your office doing nothing productive all day!"
"I've been trying to find our daughter since day 1, something that you've since given up on!"
"Sorry it bothers you, Honey," She snarled in a venomous tone at the word 'Honey',"But some of us know better than to cling to delusions of someone coming back. This is Hell, Lucifer, and chances are that Charlie met a grim fate long before we were even aware she was gone. There's no point in wasting time, money and resources in a dead case and the least we can do for our daughter now that she's no longer here is to ensure she's remembered."
"But there's no certainty that she's dead, there's still hope-"
"Oh give it a rest, Lucifer," She said,"If Charlie hasn't been found over the past several months, what makes you think you'll find her now? Face it, if Charlie was still out there, SOMEONE would've found her by now. You may not agree with me but given how I was the one trying to juggle not only this investigation but both of our duties as well, I believe I have the right to put an end to this…"
"You can't do this-"
"Already have," She cut him off,"I know it's hard for you to understand Lucifer, but that's not your call to make. In fact, you have no right to make ANY demands out of me after what you've done! This entire situation is on your shoulders and had you just kept that big mouth of yours shut, our daughter would still be here!"
"I didn't mean-"
"Didn't mean to? You didn't mean to!? You KILLED our daughter and all you can say is that you 'didn't mean to'!?" She snapped, the Queen of Hell's hair flaring up with fury as she grabbed Lucifer by the collar and lifting him in the air, her elegant and alluring voice became deadly calm,"Is that all you can say for yourself you selfish bastard!?"
Lucifer was prepared to say something but his mouth became drier than a desert when he opened his mouth. He was at a loss for words and found himself in a trance, unable to say anything even though he so desperately wanted to.
His silence wasn't taken all too kindly as Lilith threw him across the room, sending him flying into the wall. Lucifer stared at his wife in horror as his terrified eyes met with her stone cold ones, the Queen of Hell's towering figure made the Fallen Angel's feel like a shrinking violet that cowered at the mere sight of her.
Her eyes…those cold and cruel eyes…her gaze was enough to put Medusa to shame just by looking at her. The scariest part was that she was entering a blind fury, with tears barred and screaming. Her voice hadn't been raised and it was the same as her usual voice with the exception of there being an edge to her tone and the small but ever present frown upon her lips.
The lips that he used to kiss with passion, that used to smile at his very presence, the woman who he had spent eons with was staring at with the contempt, exhaustion and disappointment.
An influx of feelings surged through him…guilt…shame…but most importantly, he felt a feeling that he hadn't felt so strongly in eons…
Fear.
The last time he had felt so much terror was when Micheal had struck down his rebellion and banished him to Hell after he tried to overthrow the system in pursuit of what he believed to be better.
Even then…that was a lifetime ago. This was the present and it was terrifying witnessing the person he loved so dearly, the one who had been with him since the beginning of his Fall glaring at him scornfully, disgusted at him for where his actions lead them.
Lilith then turned her face away, gritting her teeth,"I can hardly stand the sight of you any longer. It's just too much to bear. And to think I traded Eden for this. I suppose I should've known that this life was far too good to be true. Too bad Karma just had to bite my daughter instead of me. What I would've done had it just been me…"
"Lilith I-"
"Don't. There's no point. Talking won't change anything. It won't bring her back…." She growled, her voice dripping with venom.
"Lily, my darling, my love-"
"Don't call me an arrogant swine!" She snapped,"You have no right to call me that after what you've done! I'm neither your darling or your babe, what I am is SICK of you and your BULLSHIT! And you know what? I'm done with you. I've been FAR too patient and I can't do this anymore."
Before Lucifer could question what she meant, Lilith grabbed the wedding ring on her finger.
"Here! If you want to know just how I feel about you and your love, then I'll show it to you!" She then threw it at his feet,"Have it! I certainly don't want it anymore!"
The King of Hell's jaw fell slack, horrified as he was quick to grab the ring that Lilith so carelessly threw to the ground.
"Our ring…" He quickly latched onto the ring and desperately glanced at his wife with fright,"N-Now now, Lilith. There's no need to be rash, we can fix this, together. You just need to trust me-"
"As if I'd trust you after what you pulled. We're through, Lucifer. I can't deal with you anymore," She growled before summoning a suitcase and shoving it in Lucifer's arms,"Here, take your things. You'll need it…"
"Y-You're kicking me out? This is our house, Lilith! You can't just boot me out!"
"I can and I will," She threatened,"I've been planning this for a while. I was quite reluctant and uncertain if I truly wanted to go through with it but this conversation ended that uncertainty where it stood. Now leave, you're not wanted here and if you care even the slightest bit about me…don't bother me. You'll only make it worse…"
Lucifer was then guided to the door and shoved outside. When asked for one last goodbye, Lilith responded by slamming the door right in his face.
He stared at the door for several seconds, in shock at what had just occurred. His wife had not only booted him out of the house with only the clothes on his back and the suitcase in his hand.
'Who the hell does she think she is!?' He thought, enraged by it all. How dare she kick him out of his house!? He, the Devil, the Morningstar, was being booted out of his own mansion by his wife!
It was outrageous and Lucifer was tempted to storm back in there, but held himself back from doing so. If he stormed in there, would it really do anything? It wouldn't bring his daughter back and he had already hurt Lilith enough as it was, he couldn't bear the idea of physically fighting her.
Sighing in defeat, Lucifer slumped his shoulders, tilting his hat downward and trudging somber off of what used to be their shared residence.
As he left the gates of the mansion, he turned around and for a moment, he caught Lilith staring at him from the top floor, glaring at him through the window with disdain. She curled her lip up at him, shaking her head in what he assumed to be slight sorrow before turning away completely…
He soon left and began to walk, his body sulking with each passing step. His eyes were tired and his position was slouched as he struggled to move forward.
"Wonderful Morningstar, look at what mess you got yourself into now. Your daughter's missing, you've neglected your duties and now your wife's kicked you out of the house. Just my fucking luck. This day couldn't possibly get any worse…"
Apparently the Heavens decided to answer his prayers as the second Lucifer finished this sentence, acid rain began to pour down from Hell's reddish skies. Lucifer groaned as he found himself soaking wet in the water as it began to rain like Armageddon pouring from the clouds above.
"Me and my big fucking mouth," He grumbled. If there was one thing he despised about Hell it was the acid rain.. He could handle the heat and the cold but for some reason, Lucifer just had an extreme distaste for rain and it showed. It was why he preferred to stay in his home whenever there was a forecast for rainy weather….
Unfortunately, that was no longer an option for him. Not anymore…
'I've got to get out of this rain…' He thought to himself, carrying the suitcase over his head to prevent the water from pouring on him. He pondered what his next step was and for once, the Devil was at a loss for what his next move was…
Going back to the mansion was out of the question. Perhaps he could stay at a hotel, but that was far from his preferred option, especially as a long-term place of residency….
'Maybe the other Sins would be willing to lend me a hand…' He began dialing the numbers of the other Deadly Sins.
The responses he received…were less than stellar. Belphegor and Frederick didn't pick up and while most of the other Sins did respond to his call, they informed him that they received orders from Lilith to not house him, much to frustration.
'Of course she made it as hard as possible for me to find a place to crash…' He grumbled to himself before reluctantly gazing at the one number he hadn't tried yet.``Well…it's either him or the streets…"
He called the number and not too long after, he heard a flamboyant and suave voice on the other side,"Hello, who's calling?"
"Mammon, it's me, Lucifer…"
"Luci!?" He exclaimed,"By Satan's beard, it's been so long since I've spoken to you! I was wondering when you'd call though you were always….busy. Quite unexpected of you to call, you're not the type to just randomly phone others…Is something wrong?"
Lucifer bit his lip as he pinched the bridge between his eyes,"Listen, Mammon…I…I…"
"You what? Speak up, Luci. I can't tell what you're saying from here…"
"I need your help, OK!?" He snapped.
"You…want?" He asked, sounding somewhat confused,"What for?"
"Lilith kicked me out of the house and I need a place to stay and-"
"Hold the phone, you're saying she kicked you out of the house that you two have shared for several millennia? Oh, Lucifer, what have you done this time?"
"I…I may have pushed Lilith a tad too far and now she refuses to speak with me."
"How angry is she?"
"Beyond furious. Why?"
"No reason, just now seeing why you're calling for my aid. Though I must ask, why me?"
"Because you're my friend, Mammon…"
"Oh you're such a card, Lucifer. You can be ever so flattering and charming when you need to be…However, I'd appreciate it if you told me the truth," He replied in an amused yet obvious manner,"So tell me, what is your true reason for calling me. I know you'd never call me like this unless you were desperate…"
"Belpehgor won't pick up his fucking phone and the other Sins don't want to risk pissing off my wife by disobeying her commands on not letting me crash at their place and you were the only one who I hadn't tried calling yet…"
"I see," Mammon said and while Lucifer couldn't see it, he could tell Mammon was no doubt twiddling his fingers within the cord of his phone while laying upside down on his couch as he had seen him down whenever he was on the phone with another person."How intriguing. You've certainly got yourself in quite a pickle, my friend. Honestly, I'm somewhat tempted to decline the offer just for my own amusement…."
"Mammon, don't you dare…"
"Oh relax, Luci, I'm not that cruel you know. Not to my friends anyway," He added,"Don't worry, Lucifer, I'll let you stay. However, you must agree to it under my terms, understand?"
"You've got to be fucking with me…"
"Oh I wish I was," He chuckled, Lucifer rolling his eyes at his friend's remark,"Now don't sound so blue, Luci. It's just a small request that's all…."
"What is it?"
"Would you mind repairing Loo Loo Land for me? A while ago some imp burned it down, little rascal caused quite a bit of trouble and I'd appreciate it if you could help me rebuild the park…"
"Wait…let me get this straight, YOU want ME to invest in your shoddy ripoff of my park just because you're too greedy to do it yourself despite having all the time in the world to repair it?"
"Hmm…pretty much…"
Lucifer groaned,"And if I don't, I'm on my own…"
"Yes. That sounds about right…"
"Ugh…Fine, I'll fucking do it.."
"I knew you'd come around, Luci. You're the best friend a man could ask for.." He sneered,"Say, how do you feel about going out for Dinner? We can discuss wine and biscuits? Doesn't sound nice?"
Lucifer made a 'meh' noise before shrugging,"Whatever. I just need a place to stay…"
"So it's a deal then?"
"Deal…" He grumbled,"So where do you want to meet up?"
"I know a restaurant in Mint City, it's got the hottest foods and an amazing view at night. Do you wish to go there?"
"Fine by me…So long as you know where we're going, I don't really care. Be sure to meet me at the elevator, alright?"
"I'll be on my way. Love you, Luci!"
"I hate you…."
Lucifer narrowed his eyes once he hung up the phone. Definitely the most pleasant conversation but it was probably the best interaction he had had in several months.
Besides, Mammon was offering him a palace to stay and it was better to live with someone you know than someone you didn't. As irritating as the clown was, he was better than the random denizens of Hell by a mile and if he could count on anyone, it was him….
Mammon tilted his head to the side when he spotted Lucifer stepping out of the elevator. It had felt like eons since he had seen Lucifer and he couldn't help but feel a tad unnerved upon seeing his friend in such an improper state.
He had never seen Lucifer like this in all of his eons and he had to recompose himself in order to avoid faltering in public, repressing his emotions in favor of a calmer and cooler facade. He did have a reputation to uphold and neither he or Lucifer would benefit from looking weak in front of their subjects.
"It's been a long time, Luci, got out on the wrong side of the bed this morning because it looks like you've seen better days…."
"I'm aware I look like shit, Mammon. No need to rub it in," Lucifer grumbled.
"I'm not joking, Lucifer, you look god-awful, "He retorted,"Not to mention you're soaking wet. Did you neglect to get an umbrella before leaving the house?"
"Lilith didn't exactly give me the time to get my things…" He admitted.
"I see…well, no matter, I'm certain it'll dry off sooner or later. Come on, I know a palace that'll grant us some privacy, away from the public eye. The commoners are watching us," He whispered into Lucifer's ear, narrowing his eyes at the people who stared at them as he snapped,"What are you all looking at?"
They quickly shifted their gaze at Mammon's tone. Mammon quickly shifted back to his friendly tone with his dear friend and motioned for him to follow him, to which he did shortly after.
Mammon and Lucifer walked down the streets of the Greed Sector. The Lord of Greed led Lucifer to the restaurant he was speaking of, a luxurious building that was tall as ever.
"Is this the place you got us a reservation for?"
"Of course, where else would I take us? You aren't insulating. I'd take us to a restaurant meant for the lower class now would I?"
"No, I just didn't expect it to be so…big…"
"If you're interested in size I could always give you something to try since you probably haven't been getting any action in a while," Mammon elbowed him and Lucifer rolled his eyes at this.
"Not in the mood for your flirtations, Mammon. Do try and keep your dick in your pants…"
"Oh don't be such a prude Luci! I was just messing around pulling your leg! Can't take a joke now can you?" He laughed madly at his friend's reply, going a far as to slap his knee in response.
"Ugh…You are insufferable…"
He batted his lashes,"And you love me for it~"
'I cannot believe I got stuck with him of all people…' Lucifer scoffed, Mammon's always been such a joker but in a time like this, he would prefer if he remained silent instead of pressing him at every opportunity.
Times like this made him wish that he wasn't the only Sin willing to give him a fucking chance.
Lucifer grumbled under his breath as he and Mammon made their way to the restaurant, walking inside. The moment they got here, Mammon slammed the doors open and dramatically exclaimed,"Out of the way everybody, the only people who matter are here! Pave the way peasants, the Kings are here so you better get used to us…"
Shortly after, a waiter with a frightened attitude approached them,"O-Oh you're highness's what a pleasant surprise to see you here! It was quite unexpected of you to drop by! Where do you wish to dine?"
"The top floor would be nice,"Mammon said,"We wish for a place more…private, away from prying eyes…"
"Right this way your highness's!"
The waiter then led them to the top floor of the restaurant with the help of the elevator.
There was an empty table outside on the upper floor. At the top floor was a table, a rail post with two lanterns at the side.
The two Kings sat down at their table which had a white table cloth and a utensil set with a napkin on the side. The center of the table had a dim candle, the scent vaguely smelled like lilies.
By now, it was getting dark and the once vibrant green skies of the Greed Sector had become dark like the night sky on Earth.
The two men ordered their food, picking whatever their heart's desired on the menu. Lucifer ordered a glass of wine with a slice of apple pie while Mammon helped himself to a larger platter on the menu, getting bread, wine and steak.
Mammon narrowed his eyes as he indulged himself in his food. While he ate his food, Lucifer had barely touched his food, merely staring at it with an empty stare, appearing bored despite having fresh delectable food right in front of him.
"You're not eating any of your food…" Mammon said, tilting his head to the side as he examined his friend.
Lucifer don't comment on this, merely shrugging his shoulders. The Lord of Greed's expression darkened as he noticed how lifeless Lucifer appeared. He lacked the energy to do anything, let alone eat the food in front of him.
"You know, Lucifer, you never did end up telling me why your wife kicked you out of the house and I know that Lilith isn't the type to make mash decisions based on a whim. Tell me, did this have anything to do with your daughter?"
Lucifer didn't respond but the way he averted his gaze told Mammon all that he needed to know.
The Lord of Greed took a deep breath and said,"Lucifer, I understand you not wanting to talk about this but you need to be upfront with me. What exactly happened to get Lilith to boot you out of your own home?"
"I…I responded poorly to her closing Charlotte's case. I didn't want to give up hope for her but Lilith made the decision for me without my permission. It got ugly and…well…for her, that argument was the last straw and she packed my things and told me to get out of her sight…"
Mammon's expressions softened,"Oh…I'm sorry, Luci…I'm sorry that happened to you…"
"Don't bother…Besides, I still need to find her. With or without Lilith's help, the bottom line still stands…"
"You still intend to look for her?" He asked.
"I have to. She's my daughter and I know she's still alive..she has to be."
"Lucifer, I don't mean to hurt your feelings but it's been over six months since she disappeared. It's approaching Extermination and you still believe she's out there? We've searched the crevice, I don't think there's any place she could possibly be…"
"I know you wouldn't understand, Mammon, but she's my child and I can't rest until I have answers. I need to know what happened to her."
Mammon paused, taking a sip of drink before saying,"I know I wouldn't understand. I never liked children, they were too noisy and annoying for my tastes. I don't understand your pain, but I do know that I don't want a repeat of last time…"
Lucifer flinched,"What are you talking about?"
"You know I'm talking about, Lucifer…" He said,"It's been centuries, yet the memory of the day is still ingrained into my memory and it's something none of us will ever forget…"
"Mammon, I thought we promised to not talk about that…" He warned.
"We did, but considering we find ourselves within another possible situation your relationship with another person is put in the balance, I believe uncovering old wounds would help. Especially since this isn't exactly the first time you've done something that's caused irreparable damage to your loved ones…"
The Devil bit his lip,"Mammon, it was an accident. I didn't mean for it to happen…"
"You said that before, and believe me friend, I do believe you. But that doesn't change what you did and even after all this time, there's not a doubt in my mind that Frederick and Bethesda still hold it against you. They may not say it to your face, but I know they still hold resentment towards you and deep down…you know that's true…"
Lucifer refused to speak, instead choosing to leave the table and step out onto the balcony section. His eyes averted at the night skies, examining the starry skies that brightly shimmered in the darkness. The lights of the city glowed brightly and for once, the hectic city almost seemed peaceful in that moment as he looked down at it.
"Wonderful night isn't it?" Mammon asked, to which Lucifer responded with a small nod.
"Yeah. It sure is…"
"You know, Lucifer, you don't have to pretend the past doesn't exist because it makes you uncomfortable, right?" He pressed on, Lucifer's frown deepening as he looked into the bright lights that hung above the horizon,"Besides, a little trip down memory lane certainly wouldn't hurt. After all, you still remember that night, don't you?
"What do you think?"
"Rhetorical question, Luci…" He sneered,"There's no need to be like that. I am your friend after all and I'm the only one who still wants to be around you. It wouldn't hurt to talk about painful memories now would it? It's not like we've got anything else to do since you are not exactly in the mood to parlay or eat for that matter. It might help heal old wounds by letting out the pain…Or so they say anyway…"
Mammon then pulled out a vape and activated it before offering Lucifer one,"Want a smoke?"
Lucifer declined,"I'll pass…"
Green smoke came from the Mammon vape pen. As he took a deep breath he asked,"Want to start from the beginning? It'll be easier that way…"
Lucifer nodded, knowing he couldn't escape the inevitable,"I suppose it won't hurt. It started centuries ago, back before my little Charlotte was even born. Back when all of us were the best of friends…"
Flashback Begins…
It was a beautiful night out and Lucifer found himself enjoying the party along with the other Deadly Sins. It was a pleasant night, or as pleasant as the underworld could be anyway.
Lucifer was enjoying a glass of apple wine that he had poured from the cabinet. Some would say his obsession with apple themed meals was strange if not quite disturbing.
Though he didn't care for their judgment, after all, why should he? Most knew better than to question the Devil's state and very few would be brave enough to present their judgment before him.
Still, like most rules, there was always an exception.
"Apple wine again my love?" Lilith asked, snaking her arms around his collarbone with a sultry smile as she whispered into his ear from behind, her soothing yet seductive voice sending a wave of lust down his spine.
The Devil chuckled, an amused grin on his face,"What can I say? An apple an hour keeps the demons from power…."
Lilith chuckled,"You're such an amusing man, Lucifer…"
"I know, darling…" He said, his grin growing as Lilith gripped his suit tightly and got close to his face before locking lips with him passionately, Lucifer twiddling his fingers into her golden locks as she cupped his face.
The Devil's hand slipped into her dress and prepared to make a move until the sound of the door opening interrupted their passionate linking.
"Hey Luci, Lilith, I was wondering where you two were and-Oh…" His face fell when he saw the scene before them,"It seems that you two were…busy…"
"Oh really? What gave you that idea?" Lucifer asked flatly,"Seriously Mammon, what the fuck is your problem? We were in the middle of something!"
"Luci, honey, don't get so upset. I doubt Mammon meant it after all, " She ushered,"Besides, I"m certain he had a reason for it. Right, Mammon?" Despite the calm way she said it, the edge to her tone made it clear that Mammon better have a good reason for the intrusion…for his sake if anything.
"Relax, babe," Mammon said, putting his hands up,"I didn't mean to interrupt you and Luci's lovey dovey time but I came to check on you since Frederick's got a special announcement to share and he wants to tell all of us!"
"Oh, why didn't say so?" Lilith asked with a smile,"Come on honey, we should see what all the commotion is over."
"But Lilith, we were just about to have fun..Can't Frederick wait?"
"Lucifer, darling, that's no way to act. You need to learn to be patient and behave," She said, putting her finger up to his face,"It would be rather rude to ignore a friend's announcement. Intimacy can be put on hold until other matters are sorted out."
The Devil groaned in disappointment, pouting upon being rejected,"Ugh…."
"Don't look so glum, Luci!" Mammon cackled,"I'm certain that whatever Frederick's announcing will be worth it! After all, there'll be plenty of time for you two to 'dance' after the party is done! And you know, you two can always spare room for one more in bed if you wish…"He said this while winking at both of them.
Lucifer rolled his eyes,"No Mammon, you can't sleep with us…"
"Oh darling, don't be so harsh, you know you could always consider it…"
"Lilith, don't indulge him. He's not worth it…"
Mammon pouted,"You're no fun, Luci…."
"I'm not in the mood to entertain your jokes, Mammon. Now come on, let's get a move on and see what Frederick's announcement is about. Hopefully it's actually important…"
They all headed out of the room and got to the main area of the ballroom of the Morningstar residence where the other Deadly Sins were gathered with the exception of Frederick, Asmodeus and Belphegor. There were also other noble demons in the room but they hadn't paid attention to them.
Beelzebub waved at the sight of them,"What up Queenie, how are you and your man doing!?"
"Doing just fantastic, Lady Beelzebub. How about you?"
"Couldn't be doing any better," She giggled,"This party is the bomb and the food is amazing! I just love the honey wine you guys bought, it's so enticing!" She then chugged her entire drink,"Ah…so refreshing. You know what? I think I'm gonna get another!"
"Didn't you already drink half of it?" Mammon asked,"Don't think you've drank enough, Queen Bee? You know having that much wine ain't exactly wise…"
"Oh I know you're not lecturing me on having 'too much' of something, Mammon," She retorted, the bug Queen batting her lashes at Mammon's statement.
"Hey, I never denied being greedy but I'm not stuffing myself at the wine bowl," He sneered.
"It's not my fault it tastes so good, you'd be doing the same thing in my position, "She huffed.
"Queen Bitch…"
"Greedy Bastard…"
The two of them then glared at each other as they got up in each other's faces.
"Good lord, will you two just shut up already?" Satan asked,"Your arguing is getting on my nerves…"
"Oh don't be such a prude, Satan, we're just having fun!" Mammon teased,"Nothing wrong with two good friends teasing each other now is it?"
"Yeah, you know we'd never get mad at each other!" Beelzebub chuckled,"Me and Mammon just like being on each other's cases, that's all."
"Well stop doing it while we're here. Some of us don't like childish banter while we're waiting…Speaking of waiting, where the hell is Asmodeus?"
"Oh he's wrangling Belphegor," Mammon said,"It was his turn to drag him out to socialize since I had done it last time we all met. Wonder how long it'll take for him to get here…"
Just then, Asmodeus teleported inside with Belphegor, his expression irritated as ever,"Sorry for being late everyone but SOMEONE over here was being stubborn and kicked and screamed every step of the way."
"I told you I don't like being dragged out to socialize!" Belpehgor whined,"Seriously, why can't you just leave me alone? I was working on something important, dammit!"
"Because you can't keep missing things just because you're lazy," Mammon said,"Besides, you wouldn't want to miss out on having a good time with your old friends now would you? Frederick's about to announce something important and you would've missed it had Asmodeus not dragged you here. Would you have wanted to miss out then?"
The Lord of Sloth grumbled,"No…"
"Then don't act so down about it and be happy. It's been a while since we all got to party together! I'm certain you can have fun just like the rest of us.."
Just then, Frederick's voice intervened into the mix as he stepped by Belphegor's side,"Mammon, what have I told you about pressing Belphegor about being social? You know he's always been the type to prefer solitude over groups of people…"
"I was just trying to get him to stop being such a downer, Frederick," Mammon pouted,"You know he would've just stayed in his lab all day had we not dragged him out. He would've missed the party and whatever announcement you had in mind if we hadn't."
"That's no excuse, you know how Belphegor is…" He sighed,"You alright, Belphegor?"
'I'm fine…just a little tired of that's all.." He said,"Just hope whatever you have us out here for is worth the trouble. I was working on something you know…"
"I assure you my friend that it will…" He chuckled,"I'm personally just glad you're here. It would've been such a shame for you to miss this occasion. And to the rest of you, I share the same sentiment."
"I'm certain you do," Lucifer smiled,"Though I must ask, what exactly did you summon us for? And where is your wife? I swore she was with you last when the party first started.
"Oh Bethesda? She's upstairs..I'm not certain but she insisted on being left alone. Though in order for the announcement to continue, she'll need to be down here. Perhaps I should head upstairs and get her. She's never usually this quiet…"
"There's no need, Frederick. I'll retrieve your wife," Lucifer assured his friend.
"Are you certain? I can go and get her myself. It wouldn't be that big of a deal…"
"It's fine, Frederick. I'll get her and make sure she's safe and sound…"
The King of Envy seemed reluctant but Mammon nudged him,"Don't be such a worrywart Frederick, Lucifer's got this. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?"
"I'm not, I'm just…a bit uncertain that's all… She's been in a bad mood and I wouldn't want anything to happen."
"Relax, it'll be fine," Mammon assured,"Hey Luci, go and put his worries to rest and get the lady, will ya? We'll keep him company…"
"I shall…"
Lucifer quickly ascended up the steps to the upper floor. He walked down the long hallways, examining each door for any sign that someone was inside. As he was walking, at the further end of the hall he caught a door left slightly ajar and decided to investigate.
When he approached the door, he peeked inside and saw the back of Bethesda, or more accurately her hair to be exact. He narrowed his eyes before opening the door.
Bethesda jumped at the sudden intuition and hissed,"Who's there!?"
'Seriously?' He rolled his eyes,"Bethesda, relax, it's just me," He assured,"It's me, Lucifer. There's no need to be scared…"
He found this a tad odd as Bethesda was never the type to get frightened and found himself feeling rather ridiculous having to explain himself to her but kept this thought to himself.
As he entered the room, the first thing Bethesda asked was,"Why are you here, Lucifer? Surely you didn't come all this way to sneak up on me now did you?
"Of course not, Bethesda. I'm not that immature," He retorted,"In fact, the whole reason I came here was because your husband wanted me to come and escort you downstairs."
"He wanted you to escort me?" She asked skeptically,"That sounds…hard to believe…"
"Well to be fair, he wanted to do it himself but I offered to do it instead. He had to be convinced but I managed to change his mind so to speak.."
"I figured you did such a thing. I can't say I'm surprised you'd find a way to intrude on matters that have nothing to do with you," She said in an irritated voice that Lucifer took note of.
"Geez, someone's moody today. What have you all worked up?"
"None of your business," She grumbled,"I'm not in the mood to socialize, Lucifer and I'd prefer if you left me be…"
"As much as I'd love to leave you be, Frederick told me to get you downstairs. The others are expecting you."
"I missed the part where that's my problem, Lucifer…"
The Devil's teeth barred at her response, anger flaring up within his eyes. He found himself annoyed by Bethesda's attitude and found her rudeness not only unnecessary but disrespectful as well.
Not to mention somewhat out of character, Bethesda wasn't sweet as sugar but she usually kept her mood in line most of the time. Her acting cranky and bitter to this extent was extremely unusual and he was confused at what was going on
. It had been a while since he had seen her but he was certain it hadn't been long enough for her attitude to shift like this without reason.
"You aren't in a mood today aren't you?"
"You're not the first to tell me that. Now would you mind leaving? I'm not in the mood to deal with this."
"Your husband told me to get you and I'm not leaving without you, Bethesda," He retorted firmly,"I do not know what has gotten into you but you need to get up and come downstairs."
"You cannot make me come downstairs," She huffed, arms folded over her chest.
He made a face at this, becoming irritated by her stubbornness and pride. He then couldn't help but wonder what the hell she had even been doing in there and noticed there were several empty plates with crumbs littered across the bed and on Bethesda's lap was a large piece of cake that she had likely gotten from the ballroom.
"Are you serious, Bethesda?" He asked,"Eating an entire cake? That was meant for the guests…"
"Who cares about them?" She snapped,"I need it more than they do…"
"What do you need an entire cake for?" He asked,"You know it's bad enough that Beelzebub gobbles everything in sight but now you? You weren't even a huge foodie in the first place, what's with you?"
"None of your business, Lucifer. A lady doesn't need to divulge her secrets…"
"Regardless, you need to get your fat ass off the bed."
Bethesda flinched, rage consuming her as she raised her hand and tried to slap Lucifer for insulting her. Lucifer dodged this attack as he glared at her fiercely,"What the hell do you think you're doing?"
"How dare you call me fat, have you no respect?"
"I have plenty, I simply don't have any for those who don't respect me,especially those who don't do as they are told," He replied,"Besides, there's nothing wrong with speaking the truth now is it?"
"You..you horrible bastard!" She stomped her heel against the floor before shoving him aside,"I'm done, I can't do this anymore. I should've just stayed home if this was what I was going to be dealing with…"
"Hey! Who said you could just leave?" He growled,"Get back here!"
Bethesda scoffed and stormed out of the room. Lucifer chased her, arguing with her with each step. Their arguing became fierce and louder the longer it went on.
The Queen Of Envy was at the top of the stairway and was prepared to come down only for Lucifer to grab her wrist,"Where do you think you're going?"
"Let go of me!" She snarled, desperately attempting to free herself. Irritated by this struggle, Lucifer and Bethesda were wrangling with each other. The Devil grit his teeth and found anger fueling him at how rebellious she was being.
The final straw was when she stomped his toe with her heel and in an attempt to get him to release her, Lucifer found himself blinding by fury upon being attacked in such a manner. Instinctively, he shoved her away from him.
Time slowed down in that moment as Bethesda let out a blood curdling scream as she fell down the stairs, landing on the final floor with a sickening thud as she crumbled to the ground.
Lucifer's fury died down when he heard Frederick scream as he rushed to his wife's side,"Lucifer…W-What have you done!?"
"I…I was just trying to get her down and she wouldn't cooperate. Besides, it's just a small fall, demons are built to withstand things like that…"
"You bastard!" He hissed, Lucifer flinching at his tone,"Do you not realize what you did!? She was PREGNANT!"
The Devil's expression went from confusion to horror as he realized what exactly the 'surprise' was, his hands covering his mouth as he saw Frederick clutching his wife's unconscious body in his arms. The other Sins were looking at the scene with mixed expression ranging from complete horror to and terror of what was to come…
In that moment, Lucifer knew that he had fucked up…

Enigmus-288: Eh, it's fine. BTW, happy late birthday(cuz obviously by the time you and everyone reads this it's past that point).Rosie honestly would doubt him because if your pet that you got not too long ago and started teaching to write began writing an old name down you'd probably be skeptical and since she thinks Vox intentionally got rid of him, she probably wouldn't want to call him what his old owner called him. Vark's just started to learn how to write sentences so it's reasonable to be a bit skeptical of what he puts on paper.
