Chapter 16: Osborn's Thunderbolts (Edited)
"Enjoy your stay at Fenton's. It is a wonderful time for people of all ages." Mr. Lancer said as they walked past him and towards the carnival grounds.
He had gotten bored of watching the overshadowed prisoners sit still and do nothing. Then he had gotten a text from Rogue telling him she and Kitty wished to see him in her dreams tonight. He created another duplicate and gave it the order to wake him up if it is needed and headed to sleep.
Now they were picking what they wanted to do for this date.
"What do you want to do?" Danny asked as he looked at the girls.
"Like I don't have the right outfit for a carnival. I can't walk around like this." Kitty said as she gestured to her pink pajamas.
For some reason Kity had problems keeping her mind on track and her outfit shifted constantly.
"Don't worry." Danny said as he waved his hand and changed her outfit. She is now wearing a tight top and even tighter leather pants.
"Thank you." Kitty said.
"I think that you look wonderful." Danny said with a smile.
"So do ah." Rogue said as she looked at them in a full body swimsuit.
It seems that she wanted to go to the beach.
"So, you wish to go swimming?" Danny asked.
"More like surfing." Rogue said.
"Alright then." Danny said as he formed a duplicate.
One went with Rogue and the other went with kitty.

"How are things going?" Danny asked as they sat on the beach as they looked at the ocean had been surfing.
Their surfboards are giving them something to lean against. The full moon hung above them glowing beautifully.
He thought that it was the perfect moment for this conversation. Rogue had seemed rather tense even while surfing. He thought he knew what the cause behind it is.
"You saw the broadcast?" Rogue asked with a resigned tone of voice.
Apparently, The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants had learned that Magneto is alive and what Charles Xavier had done to him. While he had been working on this mission and saving Hawkeye and Black Widow, they sent a message to the United States that they demanded his return and freedom from Xavier's power. If Magneto was not fixed and returned to them, they promised to attack even worse than before.
"I heard about it." Danny said looking up at her.
He wondered what kind of trouble the X-men are dealing with now right now. Charles Xavier had spread his message on mutant tolerance on the basis that he took out Magneto when he attacked the White House. For the people to learn that Magneto is still alive and that he fooled the world with his psychic powers was not going to go down well with the people. Probably as bad as when they learned that Nixon had secret recordings of his enemies and intended to break into the D.N.C. in Washington. The scandal that caused him to resign from his position in both worlds.
The government's fear of what someone with telepathic powers could do to them had finally been prove true.
Before they had been fearful, but they had been wary of taking overt action. Just creating safeguards for such a threat and taking a wait and see approach. They had given Charles Xavier a measure of trust when he said he would not interfere with the minds of the government. He doubted that the mobs that are no doubt forming would do such a thing.
Charles Xavier had proven them right about almost every fear that the population held with telepaths. It would not surprise him to learn that they are probably planning on storming the institute and demanding answers from the man. Human and mutant relations are going to be in a rough place for a while and there would probably be lots of violence that he and the other Ultimates would try their hardest to prevent from escalating.
"You ahre taking it rather well. I hope that the mob that forms is as reasonable as you." Rogue said.
"Do you want me to send some duplicates to the institute so that I can make sure nothing happens?" Danny asked.
Once he woke up it would be easy to teleport there and order the crowd to disperse. His duplicates would give him the power of numbers and once they saw what they would be going up against they were more than likely to decide to return back to their homes.
"Nah. The Professor said the best thing we can do is let the heat die down. Getting angry about this is just going to make things worse." Rogue said.
Fury is probably going to pay a visit soon to learn where Magneto is being kept.
"How do you feel about all of this?" Danny asked as he stood up and looked her in the eyes.
"Ah wish the Professor had told us that he had not killed Magneto so we could have been ready." Rogue said as she grabbed her arm.
"He didn't tell you?" Danny asked.
The part of him that was Vlad saw that as a mistake. Not because of morality but he could have used his student's support to gain favor with the public. Explain that he did not believe in murder but second chances and that he tricked the people of the world so that they could have safety and peace. Mistaken and foolish but still in the best interest of the people. The way Charles Xavier had done it just made it seem as if there were parts of him that agreed with Magneto's goals or was a scheming manipulator with nefarious goals of his own.
"The mob outside thinks that we knew about it, but it is not true. The Professor thought it was best that only he knew that Magneto is still alive." Rogue said.
"That must feel terrible. I hate it when my mentor hides things from me." Danny said as he put her hands in his.
"You have a mentor?" Rogue asked surprised.
"As much as I would like to claim all my amazing feats as self-taught it is thanks to him that my powers have advanced as far as they have." Danny said.
"Ah would love to watch you train some time." Rogue said.
"Watch me get my but handed to me be ghosts with way more experience. I think I would like to save myself the humiliation." Danny said.
"Ah understand but that's how it goes. I can gain all the fighting skills from someone when Ah touch their skin, but I still have to train to know when to use them best." Rogue said.
"I understand that. It is just that it seems my mentor is finding the most outlandish people with the most annoying personalities to teach me things." Danny said. "Anyway, how are the other X-men doing with the fact that Magneto is back and probably planning something?"
"Hard to say. The only ones that Xavier is talking to are the original team. The other students ahre only given the basics." Rogue said.
"What have been their reactions to the revelation?" Danny asked.
He wanted to know how the X-men are reacting to the revelation and the challenges that they would face. In the beginning they were only disliked because they were mutants. Now they would have to deal with the fact that they are disliked because their mentor tricked the world. He wanted to know if the Ultimates might have to eventually do something to help before the X-men decided that Xavier had screwed up and the only way left for them was to scatter to the wind in hiding to try and join Magneto.
He had no desire to arrest Rogue or Kitty.
"You already know Hank has been suspicious of the Professor, so this has only made things worse." Rogue said.
'This was just the sort of evidence that he had probably hoping to find.' Danny thought. "Do you think he is wondering if he should stay or go?"
"Ah don't know. Ah could have Kitty check, but I doubt that would go over well with him." Rogue said. "The others are angry as well but the one I am most worried about is Jean. I don't know how she is going to take this with everything going on already."
"What's the matter with her?" Danny asked as he went over the information that he knew of her.
Thanks to the files that S.H.I.E.L.D. had on the X-MEN he knew that Jean Grey A.K.A. Marvel Girl had spent time in a mental institution when she was younger. She spent a lot of that time talking about goblins and phoenixes. After she joined Xavier's team it was assumed that it was because of her telepathic abilities.
"She has been having nightmares for a while." Rogue said.
"How bad?" Danny asked concerned.
The original had plenty of experiences where his emotions had affected his powers so he knew that he should expect something similar with Jean.
"Her telepathy makes her screams wake everybody up and her telekinesis crushes things at random." Rogue said.
"That must make you guys nervous." Danny said wondering how he would react to sleeping in the same place as somebody that could cause the house to collapse on them depending on how bad her dreams got.
"We all have abilities that are hard to control so we can be patient." Rogue said.
"I know the perfect way to get rid of stress." Danny said as he turned to Rogue and kissed her. He caused her outfit to change.
Gone was the bodysuit and now she is wearing a green bikini with yellow stripes and black strings.

"That sounds like fun." Rogue said when she pulled back.
"I am so glad that I met you." Danny said as he caused the surfboards to slide under them and extend. Sand was too soft for what he intended.
"What ahre you gonna do next?" Rogue asked as she stood up and looked at him.
"First I am going to work you up." Danny said as he caused his shorts to disappear.
He walked behind Rogue and position his shaft between her thighs and moved his hand up to her back.
"Then I am going to drive you wild."
Nothing got Rogue more worked up than physical contact.

Eventually someone knocked on the door.
"Did you want to bring Kitty in?" Rogue asked.
"Unfortunately, it seems something has happened in the real world." Danny said with a sigh before he kissed her.
"I hate to ruin this conversation, but we are about to arrive at the triskellion." The duplicate that had been overshadowing Schmeck told him.
"Seems like our date is over." Danny said with a sigh.
"Ah know." Rogue said as she let go of his hand.
"I'll call you later." Danny said as he pulled himself away and return back to the real world and the quinjet.

(S.H.I.E.L.D. Triskellion)
"Welcome back." Nick Fury said as he stood waiting for them outside the Quinjet. "I take it that the mission went well?"
"Yup we even brought you some souvenirs." Hawkeye answered as Anatoli and Schmeck walked behind him.
The two of them were each free of handcuffs as he had duplicates overshadowing them.
"I thought you might like them." Danny said as all the prisoner's eyes flashed the same green as his.
"Take them down to separate cells. We will interrogate them later. Right now, I want a debrief of the situation." Nick Fury said.
The three of them walked to Fury's office.
"Here is the disc." Black Widow said as she handed the item across Nick Fury's desk.
"Good job." Nick Fury said as he slid it to his side.
"I still think that we should destroy the thing." Danny said glaring.
He had expected Clockwork to show up during the flight home with Technus to wipe the thing out. There had been no sign of the ghost of time so he could only assume that Clockwork wanted them to have the information.
"You might have reservations, but we need this information." Nick Fury said as he placed the disc away in his desk.
"All it will do is tempt you to turn young mutants into weapons." Danny said.
He had no doubts that a team was being assembled right now to go over the list of mutants and see which ones they could use.
"From your report there are many countries that were after this information. There are many that could want to use these mutants. The country needs to know what dangers it could be facing." Nick Fury said. "Have you seen the news lately?
"You mean about the fact that Magneto is back?" Black Widow asked.
"We heard when we were on the way back." Hawkeye answered.
"That is just one example of the dangers we are facing. We need to be aware of assets that can be used to protect the country. You know as well as I do." Nick Fury said.
'That is an open and vague statement.' Danny thought to himself.
It was the type of line and reasoning that Vlad would use.
"Magneto has already attacked the White House once. We do not need a repeat of that performance. It would be asinine to just hope he has changed his ways and come to see that mutants and humans can live and work together." Nick Fury said.
Danny just sighed and leaned back into his chair. He knew that nothing he would say could convince the man in this state.
Black Widow and Hawkeye explained what happened during the mission.
"Alright. Black Widow, Hawkeye you two are dismissed. Phantom I want you to come with me." Nick Fury said as he got up from his desk and walked to the door.
'What's going on now?' Danny wondered to himself as they all stood up.
Hawkeye and Black Widow went one way and he and Nick Fury went another.
'He must have this place memorized really well if he can walk through the hallways with just one good eye.' Danny thought to himself as they made a turn.
"You are friends with Spider-Man, correct?" Nick Fury asked.
"As of this moment I will neither admit or deny anything." Danny answered.
He was not sure what Nick Fury wanted with Peter, so he felt it was best not to say anything at all.
"Don't be a smartass. I know that the two have you teamed up together to take down Electro. I just want to know how acquainted the two of you are." Nick Fury said as they passed one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. science labs.
"I see him every now and then when doing patrol." Danny answered as much as he was willing to at the moment.
"Do you know that he is Peter Parker?" Nick Fury asked.
He froze for half a second.
"How are you spying on him?" Danny asked knowing better than to ask how he knew.
They had managed to figure out his secret identity and Peter was a lot more reckless.
It was a surprise that his other friends had yet to figure it out.
"I also wanted to know if you are aware that he has started working for Norman Ozborn?" Nick Fury asked him.
He noticed that Nick Fury was expecting him to answer his questions without doing the same in return.
"I have read the papers." Danny answered him as they took another turn and walked to an elevator.
"Norman Osborn is very dangerous. You know about that monster that attacked your school?" Nick Fury asked.
"Before my time." Danny answered taking notice that Nick Fury was saying a lot while saying very little. "Are you trying to tell me that Norman Ozborn created that creature?"
"Norman Osborn was the creature that attacked your school." Nick Fury said.
Once again proving that you just cannot trust rich people. Either they create monsters, or they fund them.
'Wow.' Danny thought as the elevator stopped and they walked out.
He could also see where this was going and wanted to cut to the chase. "Are you trying to build up to asking me to spy on my friend?"
"Not just your friend. Norman Osborn is putting together a team. I want you to get as much information on them as you can." Nick Fury said as they finally arrived at their destination The Ultimate's conference room.
'What?" Danny thought surprised.
He knew that Spider-man had been in magazines talking about working for Ozborn, but it seems that even more had happened while he was on his mission.

"Hey kid how did you like Miami?" Tony Stark asked. "I found it to be a nice place. Good drinks, good women, a grand old time all around."
Probably resulting in him having a hangover that lasted a week.
"Don't try to corrupt the kid." Janet Van Dyne said looking at Tony with irritation.
"It was alright. Some ups some downs." Danny said as he took his seat.
"How was your mission?" Janet Van Dyne asked.
He knew that she would ask him that. Janet loved being a hero. She loved saving people in trouble and beating up criminals. He did not doubt that she would go on as many missions if she could be at more than one place at a time.
"Found some spies, beat up some Russians, and saved a couple agents in trouble. I thought that it was fun." Danny said.
"I have gathered you here today because there are things that we need to talk about." Nick Fury said.
"Magneto still being around." Steve Rogers said with an angry look on his face.
"That is going to be dealt with." Nick Fury said. "We have to discuss Norman Ozborn's team the Thunderbolts."
"Thunderbolts?" Danny asked looking at the title.
"That is the team's name." Nick Fury said.
'Got to admit that it sounds cooler than The Ultimates.' Danny thought to himself.
"Who is Norman Osborn?" Steve Rogers asked.
"For those not aware I will start at the beginning." Nick Fury said.
Holograms popped up in front of each of them.
"Norman Osborn is an industrialist that the government had approached to see if he could figure out how the super soldier serum transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America." Nick Fury said.
"I thought that project ended when Banner became the Hulk?" Hank asked.
"After the Hulk event the government moved from scientists to industrialists that had the manpower and resources. Norman Osborn was one such man. He thought his company would be the one to solve it." Nick Fury said.
"Until he ran into the same problem the others who have studied the serum have." Tony Stark said.
"Yes. Faced with failures and the risk of losing his government contract he started cutting corners in the research." Nick Fury said.
Explains how he turned himself to that monster.
"The results of his experiment had varying levels of success. His first attempt created the hero known as Spider-Man and his second attempt resulted in the mutation of Norman Osborn into the creature that attacked Midtown High." Nick Fury said.
"So, is he like the Hulk?" Steve Rogers asked with a hard look in his eyes.
Danny noticed that the man's hands were clenched tightly.
He wondered whether it was because people kept trying to replicate what happened to him and turning into monsters? He probably had no idea this mess could happen when he agreed to undergo the treatment.
"There is no evidence of that happening. It seems that he is luckier than Bruce. and the transformation was a one-time thing." Nick Fury said.
"Then why are you so concerned?" Tony Stark asked.
"Watch." Nick Fury said as he pressed a button and the hologram changed to display a news channel with anchor Harriet Chin in a discussion with Norman Osborn.
"Mr. Osborn how does you feel about the recent revelation that Charles Xavier tricked the world and Magneto is alive and back at large?" Harriet Chin asked as she looked at Norman Osborn sitting across from her.
"I think it a downright shame. The man that purportedly states that he wants peace between mutants and humans used his powers to abuse the nation to gain favor, wealth, and respect. Hypocrisy of the highest degree. If I was one of his students, I would be worried about working for such a man." Norman Osborn said as he shook his head. "It is just another reason why I am glad that I am creating the Thunderbolts."
"That is your superhero team correct?" Harriet Chin asked.
"In times such as these I think it is good that people can see Humans and Enhanced individuals working together to bring some good into the world." Norman Osborn said. "It is only logical to believe the even Ultimates have limits. They cannot be everywhere at once. Despite their powers there are crimes that they are unaware of or cannot respond to fast enough. I fear eventually the criminals will realize that if they leave New York, they will be free to act without fear of someone to stop them. I created the Thunderbolts and plan to make others so that more cities can feel the protection that New York has."
"There are those that would probably question your intentions." Harriet Chin said. "You are not known to be a man interested in the political issues between mutants and humans."
"I will admit that the majority of my interest usually lay in profit but for that to happen the world need to be in a state of balance. I want the world to see that normal people, mutates, and mutants can live together without panic and chaos. That we are all human and can work towards a bright future." Norman Osborn said with a smile.
Looking at it made his skin crawl. He also noted that the man made no mention of peace.
Balance could mean many things and it did not have to mean peaceful.
Nick Fury froze the recording.
"He works fast." Danny said.
"He plans on commercializing superheroes." Hank said.
It was true what Hank was saying and the Vlad part of him approved what Osborn was doing. Taking the strife of the current political climate to gain power and advantage. The mutant population was without someone to speak for them, the humans could see that the man leading the team was a human, and S.H.I.E.L.D. was unable to prevent the rise of Osborn's team without causing problems down the line. Osborn could make claims of power grasping, abuse of authority, and dangerous intentions that would make an already suspicious populace on the verge of a panic.
Nothing Nick Fury would want to deal with right now.
He could see why Nick Fury was also nervous about Osborn's team(s) even though he did not say it. Human experimentation was illegal by treaty. so that meant the number of superhumans were limited and scarce to random accidents and mutations. Whoever had the most of them under their control would be a power few would dare mess with. In a man like Norman Osborn's hands the country could take a dark turn.
He knew now that Nick Fury would never destroy the disc.
"Where do you think that Ozborn found them?" Danny asked Nick Fury.
"I am still looking into that but here is what I do have so far." Nick Fury said clicking another button and another holographic screen popped up.
On the screen it listed the team's name and its members. It seems right now it is just a group of six. Spider-Man, Bombshell, Havok, Bluebird, Cloak, and Dagger.
'What is Clockwork up to?' Danny thought to himself.
There was little information on their files except their powers. Since Nick Fury was hiding Peter's name there was a chance, he knew the others as well but was just not saying them.
"What are we going to do about this?" Tony Stark asked.
"Phantom is aquatinted with Spider-man. I wanted him to ask him some questions and find out what he can about this team and whatever else Osborn is planning." Nick Fury said.
"Alright but there is something I want as well." Danny said.
"I already told you that we need the information on the disc." Nick Fury said.
"Not that. I want to talk to Electro." Danny said.
The Foreign One had told him that he could find a lead on his mission to save the world if he talked with the criminal. He did not know how he was connected with everything but if there was a lead then he was going to dig through the man's entire life until he found it.
"Why?" Nick Fury asked.
"A case I am looking into." Danny answered.
"What are you now a cop now too? Phantom superhero by day and supercop by night. Solving the mysterious cases that regular police won't touch?" Tony Stark asked with a mocking tone in his voice.
Tony probably thought he could not hear him.
"Can I talk to him or not?" Danny asked choosing to ignore Tony for the moment.
He would get his revenge on the man later but right now he had to act professional.
"Very well. I will alert security that you can visit Electro." Nick Fury said.
He had someone else he had to see first.

(Ghost Zone)
"Hello Master Daniel." Clockwork said in his child form.
"I did what your friend asked me to now I have some questions." Danny said.
"You are wondering what is going on with the thunderbolts." Clockwork said.
"I want to know what you are planning with Cloak and Dagger and why Peter is working for Norman Osborn?" Danny asked.
"Cloak and Dagger chose this path to get revenge on those that experimented on them." Clockwork said.
"Are you saying they made this choice without any of your involvement?" Danny asked.
"I may have led them to believe that through joining that they will be able to get revenge on the ones that kidnapped and experimented on them." Clockwork said. "Peter on the other hand is rather complicated."
"What do you mean exactly?" Danny asked.
"Let me show you what happened during your Christmas vacation." Clockwork said as he pointed his staff and a portal activated.
He could see Peter and the others in Osborn's mansion during the Christmas party Harry had thrown.
He watched as Harry pointed Peter to the balcony where Norman Osborn waited.
"You wanted to see me Mr. Osborn?" Peter asked nervously.
He certainly seemed nervous for somebody that claimed the man is innocent.
"Hello Peter." Norman Osborn said as he turned around. "I have been really impressed with your work lately."
Way to sound creepy old man.
"Really because my teachers would tell you different." Peter said trying to make a joke.
"I do not mean your academic schoolwork. I mean your work as Spider-Man." Norman Osborn said.
It seems that Peter had not been as careful with his secret identity as he should have.
"I'm not Spider-Man. If I was then my gym teacher probably would not be so angry when I play baseball." Peter said.
"You do not have to lie to me Peter. I like to think that we are both men of science. I know what the spider bite did to you. I also have these." Norman said taking pictures out of his coat and handing them to Peter.
"What do you want?" Peter asked.
His voice was a mix of angry and wary.
"I am forming a team of superheroes. I want you to work for me on it." Norman Osborn said.
"I am sorry, but I have no intention of selling out." Peter said. "I help all people."
"You should think it over. Being hasty would not be good for anybody." Norman Osborn said.
Here come the threats.
"Are you threatening me?" Peter asked.
"Threatening you?" Norman Osborn asked. "No but your Aunt May, your girlfriend Gwen, your other friends that I have met. Them I am threatening."
"You think I would just let you do that?" Peter asked.
"You know me, Peter. I have many resources at my disposal, and you cannot watch your friends every second of the day." Norman Osborn said. "All it takes is one man willing to make a lot of money for very little work."
"I'm listening." Peter said as he sat down next to him.
"Time out." Clockwork said and the screen turned back to swirling green.
"Why did you not warn me of this in advance?" Danny asked.
He could have helped Peter. He would have shown Norman why it was a bad idea to torment his friends.
"Your friend needed to join Osborn's team." Clockwork said.
"Why?" Danny asked.
"The same reason that I advised Cloak and Dagger to join. So that they could be helpful assets that can help you learn what his boss is up to." Clockwork said.
"What is Norman Osborn up to that has managed to gain your attention?" Danny asked.
"Norman Osborn has recently joined a dangerous group and they are trying to awaken an ancient power." Clockwork said. "We need to watch over them and be aware of their moves."
The screen shifted to project a group of individuals standing in a ballroom wearing mask. Even so he could recognize a few of them. Politicians, senators, philanthropists, and celebrities. He had met some of them during the formal party that the Ultimates had attended a few months back. It was no surprise that Norman would party with such a group. However, the screen that held his attention showed that Wilson Fisk and Tony Stark as members.
"How does this relate to our enemy?" Danny asked wondering if he would have to fight Iron Man.
"This group is working towards a dark agenda, and you have to stop them." Clockwork said.
"What is the name of this group?" Danny asked.
"The group was originally called the Order of the Knights of St. Francis of Wycombe." Clockwork said. "As the years passed and the age changed, they renamed themselves to the Hellfire Club. They are mostly wealthy individuals with a desire for hedonism and excess."
That made sense why Tony Stark would be involved with them.
"The real danger comes from the leaders of the club. They call themselves the Inner Circle." Clockwork said. "These are the current members."
The images shifted to show men four men wearing suits and one woman wearing a corset and a thong.
He noted the names Sebastian Shaw, Jason Wyngarde, Donald Pierce, Henry Leland and Emma Frost. He would look them up later and see what he could find on the internet.
