It's been two days since they arrived, and so far she managed not to leave the house to visit the town. So far so good. However, she didn't realise just how much useless stuff they brought with them until she had to unpack everything while her mother went to town to get to know the locals and to do the shopping. She should've gone with her but even the thought of meeting all these new people was just too exhausting for her. She could handle a few people at a time, and only for a short while. She learned to keep her anxiety at bay, mainly by cracking stupid jokes about it or saying some obscure sci-fi or fantasy movie/book reference that usually only her brother understood. But he wasn't here now... With a sigh, she went outside to throw all the wrapping papers out.
"Oh! Aren't you the one who just moved in?" she heard a female voice ask as she put the trash can lid back.
Looking at the direction of the voice, she saw a young girl, probably around her age, with caramel skin, shoulder-length reddish-brown hair and glasses. The girl looked at her with a kind, expectant look. Well, apparently she had to start getting to know the villagers sooner than she thought.
"Um… yeah. I'm Taylor" she said with a bright smile. "Nice to meet you."
"I… Uhh… I'm Maru" replied Maru, who was caught off-guard by the charming smile of the attractive new girl. Taylor had long straight brown hair with side swept bangs. She had a fair complexion, her cheeks had a slight peachy colour. Her height was around Maru's, but she had a more slim figure. She had denim shorts and a loose black vest top on with the logo of a band called 'Dark Black Abyss'. Maru recognised it from one of the posters Sebastian had in his room. "I've been looking forward to meeting you!" she added with an awkward laugh, realising that she couldn't stop staring into the newcomer's deep dark brown eyes. "You know, with a small town like this, a new face can really alter the community dynamic" Maru continued with a small chuckle. "It's exciting!"
"I guess you rarely have new people here" Taylor mused, rubbing the back of her neck. "But you shouldn't get your hopes up about me being exciting" she continued in a semi-whisper, making Maru chuckle, as they continued their small talk for a few more minutes, before Maru left.
